Hi
I recently moved from Samsung Galaxy note 3 to LG G3. After configuring my email in the default mail app, I noticed that any outgoing emails that are sent from the LG G3 were being saved in a folder labeled "sent". However, this seems to be a locally saved "sent" folder, since I am unable to find these emails anywhere else I have my email setup such as Outlook on my PC.
Whereas on the samsung galaxy note 3, the emails that were sent in the "sent" folder, were actually being saved on the remote folder with the same label.
Is there a way to choose where sent emails get saved on the LG G3?
My email is setup as IMAP.
see attached screenshot showing the current folder structure. I am not sure why all remote folders are labelled INBOX.xxxx. This is not how I have them labelled on outlook.
Appreciate your help. Thanks.
Model number: LG-D855 (32GB)
Android Version: 4.4.2

after further research it seems this is a common issue with IMAP and the stock / default mail app. The only solution is to use third party apps that can handle IMAP better.
would appreciate any input on this issue.
thanks

I belive the problem is that all your other folders are prefixed (or better say, subfolders of Inbox, so you understand what i mean). The solution I would reccomend would be to first remove the mail account that you have set up on your phone (in the e-mail app), and then set it up again. While you are setting it up, at the step where you are configuring INBOUND settings, there is a field labeled "IMAP path prefix" (I have stock app, but G3s shouldn't be any different for this). In that field you need to input INBOX. Let it sync and it should be fine
EDIT: After you do this, you will have 2 separate folders for trash/deleted messages, cause naming convention in outlook is different. If you need this synced too, you will have to rename the folder in Outlook. It won't allow you to do this from outlook itself. You can use a tool named MFC Mapi to rename the folder, you can find it on this page: mfcmapi.codeplex.com . I've already done this several times, being a sys admin, and it works just fine. If you are doing this, it would be better to do it before setting up your account on your phone.
Speaking of the default LG email app, is there any way to enable push frequency? I didn't see the option for it on the GPad either.

Thanks for clarifying. The issue is clearer to me now. I checked on my previous android device, where I had no issues with IMAP, and the path prefix option was there. Sadly, "IMAP path prefix" option is not available on my LG G3. Hopefully, this gets included in a future update.
I found a link where you can download the apk of the stock email app from android 4.4. There was no path prefix option here either. However, it detected my IMAP folders automatically and it is working fine (all folders including trash).
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/06/18/googles-stock-email-app-finds-its-way-onto-the-play-store/
With regards to sync intervals, on the default email app on the G3, there is an "Update Schedule" option, where you can specify the sync intervals from 5 minutes up to 8 hours, peak and off-peak times.
That can't be right, it's one of important options for imap since quite some admins are setting prefix. I have the stock e-mail app (or better say the CM11 one). The option should be in Settings > Account name > Incoming settings , then the last field, just under the Security type, is IMAP path prefix. If you are setting up new account then Manual setting should be selected when prompted. I know you solved the issue, but can you double check? It seems impossible to me that it is not there since the option is quite important. You can see how it looks on my phone at the screenshot in the attachment

I checked again and the IMAP path prefix is not there. I took screenshots of the process of setting up my IMAP email. see the attached photo. In comparison, I also attached my settings from my Galaxy Note which has the IMAP prefix path option.
I sent an email to LG customer service ang got the below response. Its looks like an auto reply. Will update if they respond directly.

Wow, this is really a surprise. I am still deciding on which phone to buy from the mighty trio (G3, S5, One M8). This thing wouldn't hit me much though because the accounts I use atm are not with IMAP prefix. Still, I can't believe there isn't an option to set prefix because it's not really uncommon and all the users who have prefix on IMAP accounts are getting screwed this way.

Hi everybody,
is it possible to browse the whole content of my IMAP Email-Folder with Outlook?
When I access my email via IMAP, only the newest message gets displayed, but it seems to be impossible to browse the whole content of the IMAP Folders on respective email account.
Anybody got a clue if this is normal?
Thanks for your help,

I believe you have to manually select/check which folder to download messages. After you have setup your IMAP account, click on the menu and then folders and check it.
I don't know since it sounds like an IMAP server prob not the PPC but I'm not sure.
My very strange IMAP problem is the Sent Items Folder. If I set it to sync the folder my sent items are NEVER saved anywhere when I send from the PPC, although anything previously on the server does download and sync properly. If I set the Sent Item in pocket outlook to not sync then when I send a mess from PPC it does save a copy in the IMAP server sent items folder, but still nothing in that folder on the PPC. STUPID M$!
still got syncing probs
guys, for some strange reason, still only the messages in the main inbox will be displayed, even though i checked all the folders in question in the appropriate section under settings.
what could be the reason, why outlook does not store the other folders as well?
btw, are there different versions of outlook out there? maybe a different version for windows mobile professional?
i have seen a video online, with office mobile on a wm6 device, that seems to have a totally different (newer) layout than mine (recent schaps release)...
any hints would be welcome.

Are any of these folders public folders.
I find since WM2003SE pOutlook never displays public folders.
I wish I coudl have this fixed
Hi all,
I'm using WM6 on my backup device, the XDA Orbit and have a few annoying niggles. Can anyone advise on the below?
1) I have 2 hotmail accounts - one personal, one business. I would like to have visibility of both in my messages window. To my knowledge, I can only use one at a time and have to switch accounts via Windows Live each time I want to view emails. Is there a way you can have both?
2) I can't seem to syncronise the new folders on the POP3 account I have. Is there a way? It's an O2 account. When I create a new folder on the XDA, it doesn't show when I log in via webpage & vice versa.
3) I'd like to be able to edit the caller display when someone calls. When a contact information is filled out in detail (i.e company, job title etc.), some of the information appears on the incoming caller display bubble. Ideally I just want the name, number and photo. Possible? Fussy I know
4) In WM5, you used to be able to turn WIFI on AND off via the GPRS icon (next to the phone signal icon/speaker/clock). In WM6, it seems you can only turn it on. I know it's lazy as the Comms Manager in the 'System Tray' is only a few taps away but is there anyway to resurrect the WM5 functionality or provide a link to a 3rd party app/plugin?
5) And finally...I'd also like a bluetooth plugin on the system tray for quick access - any links?
Thanks in advance,
GW
Q1 - 2 live mail accounts can be done by setting up 2nd account as POP3 but apparently you need a yearly MSN subscription to be able to use this. Will just make do with the one account!
Q2 - Been advised to set the account type to IMAP4 to be able to sync new folders although this doesn't seem to work with an O2 email account. Can live without it though.
Q3,Q4,Q5 - Appreciate these will require registry changes - does anyone know what strings/values to edit?
Q1: I have my hotmail via a outlook plugin called httpmail. I guess it would work also with two hotmail accounts.
Here is a link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=225779
Thanks, will check it out.
re: Q2, I don't think the sync can be done on POP3 accounts. Under Messaging > Account i.e. O2 > Tools > Manage Folders, when you click & hold on the new folder that's been created the only options are 'New Folder', 'Delete' or 'Rename'. There is 'Folder Options' but it's greyed out. There are no tick boxes next to the folder like there is for syncing a folder in the Windows Live account.
I've given up on Q4 but I'd really like to fix Q3 if possible, surely just a small registry change required there...just a case of finding what to edit! Anyone help with this?
230 views - come on, who can rise to the challenge of finding a fix for me
Just to summarise question:
is there a way (registry, 3rd party app. etc.) you can edit the details on the incoming caller display bubble. For example, when the 'company' field data is entered on a phone contact, it shows under the name & number when someone calls. Ideally I just want the name, number and photo, no other info.
Is this possible?

hello all, i seem to be having a problem with my e-mail in TF3D and was hoping someone would be able to help me...my problem is this, 1, whenever i read an e-mail in tf3d(not opera) it does not register in my actual yahoo acct that it has been read (or deleted for that matter)...also, whenever i send an e-mail using my TF3D (again, not opera) it does not register anywhere on my phone or at the actual yahoo site that i have sent a message...it doesnt appear in sent folder, draft, outbox etc...its like the message was never sent bc theres no visual proof (but the recipient always gets the message even tho its not showing up)...im hoping someone can help me fix these problems bc i love using the tf3d email tab, but i need proof that i sent and received/read this messages...any help would be greatly appreciated
I suppose that your Yahoo account is either setup either via POP3 or IMAP on your device. If you used the HTC Mail Setup wizard, then it's most likely IMAP. Anyway, the point is you're using a pull method to retrieve your mail (as opposed to push).
When you read or delete email from your device, Yahoo doesn't know that. So, that's why it doesn't show up as read/deleted when you check your email via a web browser.
Solution: after you've read or deleted any emails from your device, tap "Menu" and then "Send/Receive".
By default, when you set up email accounts on your device, only the inbox is synchronized with the server. If you want to see items in your "Sent" folder, you'll need to manually set that up. Luckily this is very easy.
Solution: In your inbox, tap "Menu", then "Tools", and then "Manage folders...". Toggle on the folders accordingly.

hey, forst of all i just want to thank u for not only your quick response, but also for your thorough explenation...the only problem is, IVE TRIED BOTH RECOMMENDATIONS!!! (NOT MEANT AS YELLING, MORE LIKE FRUSTRATED)....as far as the deleted messages, i figured that would "update" yahoo so i "resent/rereceived" the messages so it would (hopefully update) but it didnt work...also, nothing is showing up n the sent folder that your talking about on either the phone or on the actual website...its crazy, i really dont understand it...and yes, i do have the little option about saving a copy of sent messages n sent folder checked...any other ideas???
I think I would delete the account and then set it up again manually. Try different port numbers. Better yet. Forward everything to gmail and use it instead. push is awesome (except attachments still don't work right, but imap is easy too).
I just replaced my Tilt with a Tilt 2 and am now having an issue with my emails being deleted from the server when I delete them from my phone. I went into the advanced settings to try and change it, but the only options I have available are "Delete Messages from server" or "Move messages to server Trash". I would like to know if it's possible to have it set up the way it was with my old phone, whereas, when I deleted an email from my phone, it stayed in the inbox on the server.
I have looked for a solution, and I am not sure if there is one, but I *did* search for an answer before posting. Everything i have come across pertains to pop3 and this phone automatically configures the setting as imap.
I am accessing gmail, if that matters.
Is there a fix for this?
I have already read about moving them to a folder, which is the same thing to me as them being moved to the "trash" folder. I don't want to move them. I want them kept in the inbox.
Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated. This is driving me nuts!!!
I had the same issue, i just select "mark as un-read" on the phone after i read them. if i forget to do that , the mail will just show up in my "old mail" folder.. then from my computer i deal with them..
That won't work for my initial request. I want to delete them from my phone, but keep them on the server. If I mark them as unread, they are still on my phone. Is there a way to change the email setting to pop instead of the default IMAP? I believe that was the setting on my first tilt, but this one automatically sets it as IMAP.
Thanks.....

You need to tell us which type of email you are using (Google, exchange, etc). But what you describe is IMAP behavior. Pop servers don't do that.
I've done my due diligence (searching for HOURS on end), so I know this has been discussed many times but I still have not seen any sort of solution or progress on how to fix the issue.
Here is the issue: Gmail/Google accounts in WP7, when you press the Trash-can icon to delete your email(s), it does not actually move the email to the 'Trash' folder (or how Gmail understands it, the 'Trash' label). It simply removes the 'Inbox' label but still keeps the message under 'All Mail'.
I've tried everything - set up my email account as an ActiveSync account and tried deleting, going to my Gmail (or any other of my email accounts that resides on Google Apps) account settings via the web browser and try fiddling with the Advanced IMAP options, but nothing.
Does anyone have any solution for this? Unfortunately, this is pretty much a dealbreaker for me with WP7 - I just purchased the HTC Trophy. I want to really love the OS/device (and I do love the OS) but being able to properly delete my Google/Gmail emails is crucial.
I've heard some people, as a temporary stop-gap, to just use the "Move to Folder" and move the email message to [Gmail]\Trash, but I don't see that folder in WP7. Any ideas on this?
Any help or insight in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
There is no solution (as in setting you can change in WP7 or on google.com) that changes this behavior. The only real option is to occasionally log in to your email account on the website and purge old mail from all mail. That's what I do about once every couple of months.
Thanks for the response. That's a real bummer. Do you or anyone know if this is something Microsoft plans on fixing? Basically it just entails making the Delete/Trash Can -> Remove Inbox Label + Add Trash Label to the message.
Also, do you know how I could view the [Gmail]\Trash folder/label? When I try to browse All Folders, it doesn't show up. Any ideas?
Thanks.

You should be able to change imap settings in gmail. There's a few articles I found, but they're a bit old, and I'm apparently too new of a member to link. I've gone ahead to write a few instructions.
1. Go to settings in your gmail
2. Go to the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab
3. In IMAP access, under "When I mark a message in IMAP as deleted:" select "Auto-expunge off"
4. In IMAP access, under "When a message is marked as deleted and expunged from the last visible IMAP folder:" select "Move the message to the Trash" or "Immediately delete the message forever"
I'm still trying to figure out how exactly the behavior works on my own device. From my understanding, by doing this, you'll send deleted message to the trash rather than archive. It appears that you lose the "instant" server update (so you might have emails that you delete on your phone stay in your inbox as unread for a while).
**edit for further research - It appears that your message will only be deleted if there are no other labels for it. Apparently [gmail]all mail counts as a label. So what the heck did I tell you to do?
Thanks for the reply. I don't understand what your last part meant..the part about your edit for further research. Please clarify. Thanks.

This, and it's the same for IOS, not a WP7 issue.
I read numerous guides looking for a solution but there isn't one. If an email exists in another view, i.e. "All Mail" then it won't be deleted.
After using IOS and WP7 this was one of the main reasons for moving to Android. It may seem a bit extreme but I hate having email I don't need. Everything gets read and deleted.
What you say is true in a technical sense, but it misses the underlying issue. Gmail has one label, Gmail/Trash, that is special. Any email that is sent there automatically has all other labels removed. However, it is up to an email client to apply the label. For example, the Thunderbird email client on Windows does just that. If I read an email in my Inbox, and then click the Delete button, Thunderbird sends and IMAP notification to Gmail to apply the Gmail/Trash label to the message, and it is instantly gone from both my Inbox and All Mail. And the Gmail/Trash label is automatically purged after 30 days.
The problem with WP7 and iOS is that they don't (and possibly can't) send the same notification. All they currently do is notify Gmail to remove the Inbox label. And, as has already been noted, the fact that the email is still in All Mail causes it to be retained on the server.
Thanks for the info, guys. I realize and understand that the culprit is the WP7 mail client, not Gmail.
As a temporary workaround (I am seriously hoping they fix this.. you guys should visit http://windowsphone.uservoice.com/f...eting-email-in-gmail-really-delete-?ref=title to vote for adding this feature), I created a new label called "WP7 Trash". From now on, when I want to "delete" mail, I simply move to to that folder/label in the WP7 mail client, and then anytime down the road I can log into my accounts and just delete all the mail in that folder/label.
Kind of kludgy, but it's the only thing I can think of...
Let me know your thoughts.
After futzing around a bit more on the internet, i've found that some people are able to get the desired "trash button = delete" action if you add your gmail account as an Exchange account instead of as a "Google Account". I haven't tried it yet, but since it isn't dealing with Gmail's odd IMAP implementation, perhaps you will get better results.
Setting up your Gmail account as an Exchange/ActiveSync account doesn't work - I've tested it several times and nothing. I do have my accounts set up as Exchange/ActiveSync because I've heard that it uses less battery than using the "Add Google Email Account" option in WP7.
The only temp-solution I've found is the create a WP7-Trash label and move messages to that folder (for later deletion once you log into the Gmail web interface).
If anyone CAN get the Delete = Trash working on ActiveSync/Exchange setups, by all means let us know!
