Hi all,
I simply love this phone, but I'm facing a situation that my screen is too sensitive. The home screens were so sensitive a few programs were started without my knowledge. It got better after I switched to Launcher Pro.
However, it is still too sensitive in other areas. When I'm scrolling down, say, the apps in Market, I'll always end up selecting a few items accidentally before I reach the end of the list.
I've used HTC Desire in the past and I'm quite sure the problem is not due to me.
Does anyone else face the same problem, or I have a hardware problem? Or software problem? Can I be tweaked by any means?
Any feedback would be useful! Thanks!!!
KG
I faced this problem before... while swiping, apps accidentally open. But instead of "too sensitive" i thought it's insensitive... because a short swipe was sometimes interpreted as a tap (maybe because the swipe was not fully detected?).
Anyway, I had 2 layers on my device... the pre-applied sheet and another screen protector that came with the box.
I removed the second layer, leaving only the pre-applied sheet, and all is well again... no more accidental "taps"

Dude, you mean the cause was the screen protector that came with the phone???

For my case, maybe 2 layers is just too thick
I'm having the same problem. And that solution seems to make sense. I would give it a try, but if the problem still occurs, I'd be wasting one screen protector..

That was how I solved my problem. I actually put on the spare screen protector because when I got the set I didn't realize there was already a pre-applied layer.
Don't blame me if it doesn't work for you
perhaps some of you guys just have the shakes?! ;-p
I guess the screen is never to perfect for everyone.
kargtan, I've noticed the same about the tap sensitivity - I often accidentally "tap" when I mean to swipe. Came from an iPhone 3g and didn't notice this on that device. Might be a matter of getting used to it, not sure. Have you gotten any feedback from others in other forums?
I've noticed this too, and put it down to the screen protector. It's not android OS causing it, never had the problem on my htc hero...
However, now that i've gotten used to the phone it doesnt do it any more - guess my brain has automatically trained itself to drag the screen a little bit more firmly or something.
One thing i have noticed about the arc is: because the bezel around the screen is so thin, i often accidentally launch apps just by holding it. My fingers wrap around slightly & touch the edges of the screen.
Does any of you have problems while trying to swap a screen from another and instead of swapping you get like a "bounce" and stay on the same screen? because that happens to me all the time, I came from an htc Legend and this is making me crazy !
btw, this happens to me if I hold the phone with my right hand and try to do the swapping with my thumb, the only way to get it right is to hold the phone with my left hand and use the index of my right hand
Screen too/not sensitive
Hi guys,
I think the problem arises from the slowness of the phone, not "too sensitive". I used to use the HTC Desire in the past and I was very used to the screen scrolling very quickly. In contrast, the arc is slower and hence the screens don't scroll as fast and hence my way of handling the Desire would cause the problems stated.
I did a few things since my last posting and it seems better now:
Replace the SE Home with Launcher Pro - this seems to have improved on the speed of the phone, and hence better responsiveness to the touch.
Rooted the phone and uninstalled some stock programs.
Removed useless widgets on the desktops.
Adjusted my way of scrolling as someone has suggested.
This is quite frustrating at times, especially so because other than this problem, this phone is a gem, especially its form factor, the sound quality and most importantly, the quality of the camera.
I might sell the phone once the company issues me with a Blackberry (DANG!), but I am kinda unwilling because I have been taking lots of photos with my Android phones and these photos are generally well-liked by my Facebook friends.
agree with bezel thing and hard to use thumb.
noticed arc screen (the screen guard perhaps ) easily get oily and slippery.
had to wipe phone and wash hand so often that make me like some sort of disorder.
Don't know why you guys seem to be having problems... I don't have any issues with my screen swipes at all... smooth and fast.. both on stock and Launcher Pro..
Same deal here. But that's because the screen is sensitive beyond the display area including the black border, and the edge is too narrow. When I use one hand swiping or tapping, the palm of my hand touches the black border. The screen registers two touches in quick succession and thus jumps.
In Phone keypad, enter *#*#7378423#*#* (the numbers mean SERVICE word in keypad), you can go into test mode. Select [Service test]->[Touch Screen] to test the badly touch screen of SE Phones.
You will discover when you swipe the edge of touch screen, the touched result is very not satisfied. The lines you swiped will not accurate and appear like jags, or stick on the edge of the screen.
The touch panel made in China...? ;-)
Me too!
Hey!
i also have a xperia tipo....and i too have the sensitive problem
Could also be a kernel problem?
I remember I installed a kernel a while back that would make my screen hypersensitive; just hovering over the screen would already activate it!
I don't remember which one, it was back in the GB days. But I'm pretty sure it can be changed in the kernel.
Hello, found a few scratches on my Xperia Arc screen and got very disappointed, I thought it had scratch resistant screen, later I took a close look to the screen and found out that it had one more screen layer, could anyone tell me if it can be removed or not, because when I asked SE support team, the operator told me that it can be removed, I just wont a suggestion, help guys.
I would not touch that layer it is part of the capacitive sensor on the screen if I'm not mistaken
yeah, I'm afraid of that too, but support team convinced me in opposite
Yes, you can remove it without problems. I did it in December without problems so far.

how did you remove it? any suggestions to peel it off? It's a bit hard to do that ( with nails )
With my nails
It takes a while to pick up a corner, but once you got a corner picked up it's easy.

Part of capacitive sensor ?? Lol
Anyways..it's just a screen protector..if got scratched,replace it with a new one..
And in this case,i would suggest you to seek some professional help as you might end up making new scratches in order to remove the protector. It's a tough job and needs a lot of love and care d(^_^)
Thank you all, I did it, it really was a screen protector, if found layer like this on your arc , you should peel it off, as a result you get Better colors, touchscreen enhancement and sharper image.
I dont think that we should remove the screen guard. SE provides two screen guards with the handset. One comes already pasted on ur handset and other comes in the box. we need not remove it as it keeps the main screen safe from scratches..
I really agree with your, but that screen protector makes touchpad less sensitive and colors are less vivid, so I prefer being extra careful with my phone then looking at Less Attractive screen
Last time I checked the screen protector I have on doesn't change the quality, clearness or the color of the display. Just saying.
Protect your screen with one. Most of them now a good and leave your screen feeling normal.
i know its an old question but anyway i have one question.how hard is it to peel of the screen protector? im trying it right now and im afraid of braking something, should i force it off or what?
It is glued there so you may have to use some force to peel it off.

it started out a few days ago. I started to feel like my touchscreen is not as responsive as usual.
I noticed numerous times it felt like my swipes as well as my touch (say when i want to open a specific app) are not being registered properly. Now the way i recall my samsung galaxy s, it would register a click sometimes even when you're hovering about 0.5mm to 1mm above it. So with that in mind, i thought i would try to do that with my one x. I would hover my hand slightly above it, and no response - NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM JUST YET.
Anyways, seeing as hovering over it doesn't work (which is not a problem imo) i would proceed to touching the screen, however i touch it without applying any pressure, i could even swipe and it WOULD NOT switch over to the next screen. I could touch the screen and the application would NOT register my fingers. However, after applying more pressure it suddenly gets registered. Even though the pressure i have to apply is just slight, Isn't this how a resistive touchscreen is supposed to behave and not a captivate touchscreen?
I thought that's because of my screen protector, i took it off and gave it 2~3 days and the issue remained.
Now my question(maybe even a favor) to you guys is as follows.
1. Try to click on an app, however, do this without applying any pressure, simply touching your touchscreen (might have to do this slowly). Does it respond? Or is it the same with with you as it is with me?
2. Please report in on the behavior of your touchscreen.
NOTE: I just want to know if my touchscreen is behaving normally or not. I do recall a better experience, actually if anything i was very happy with my one x's screen and this is simply annoying. Espeically when i have it on a soft surface and i push my screen, normally a soft surface tends to bulge in upon pressure.
It could take three touches for that freaking thing to register it if my phone is lying on a pullover or whatever else that's soft. Lately i'm not really happy with how webpages scroll up or down either, feels as if my swipes are lightly registered thus a sluggish movement upward or downward.. I hope this is not yet another issue that i have to deal with because my unit already had a wifi defect and, despite being happy with this device it might be my last. It's just too troublesome. Unless my stupid provider replaces it but i could keep dreaming.

0,5 - 1mm ? do you even realize how big this distance is? No way the SGS would register that... or react on that. (I come from that phone too)
with that in mind, my One X is much more responsive as the SGS or any other phone I had.
And no, I do not need to press. As the slightest pressure gives my screen ripples. not possible.
Either try another kernel if you have some custom one, I know there was some problems with those sometimes. Or factory reset if you are stock and then return it?

Well maybe i exaggerated the hovering part but within a certain (very small distance, probably 0,2 maybe even 0,1 the screen would react).
I've been from viper, to jelly bean roms, to ARHD and Maximus. Same thing.
edit: actually, 0,5 mm is hardly anything if you look at how big a mm is and put and reduce the distance by 50%, anyway that's not the discussion http://www.meb.uni-bonn.de/Cancernet/Media/CDR0000578121.jpg
Hover taps/clicks happen, I'm sure I haven't touched the screen a couple of times but it responded to what I wanted to do. Anyways, try this app called touchscreen test to confirm your issue.

Hovering also works with my HOX. And I don't have to use any pressure, hardly even touch the screen.

Tell them the digitizer is faulty and needs to be changed.
Simple problem, I live in the UK so the weather isn't exactly brain freezing but at 3 degree Celsius or below the screen just doesn't want to respond AT ALL, the phone is perfectly fine because buttons work and such it's just the touch screen and the touch buttons also the weirdest thing is after restarting the phone when this occurs the screen magically works again however after few minutes of cold weather will disable the touch capabilities. Should I claim on warranty? I really cant be arsed for 2 weeks without my phone, I'm quite addicted to it.
Also I have smashed the screen in the past and had it replaced by HTC if that matters however I can't tell if this issue existed before that because it wasn't exactly cold then. Please give me some good advice?
AW: [Q] HTC One X touch screen not working in cold weather.
What's your job? I mean where do you work? While I was working for an art exhibition, my fingertips skinlayer got really really thick because I did worked with pug
After that, touchscreens didn't respond to my fingers at all

I'm a college student, my finger tips are definitely soft lmao! No that's not the issue because after restarting the phone everything is fine and my hands are rather warm, I actually thought about that and even tried licking the screen, didn't work.

Dude!....never ever lick a screen ! It has more backteria on it than a toilet seat of a highway rest! Anyways, send it back to warranty would be an idea. If it comes to software, you'll most propably get help, but if it comes to hardware, things will get difficult.
Relevant info about licking smartphone screens here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVpkeBYZOrE&feature=youtube_gdata_player
And regarding topic: I succesfully used my HOX at minus 22 celsius the other day so plus 3 shouldn't be any issue.

I truly don't care, the less bacteria we intake the weaker we are against them
I actually watched that video, I'm subscribed to vsauce
So I should send it off then? Will HTC have any issues with doing this within the warranty? I assume it's their fault I did notice that in the dark the bottom of the screen reveals a little gap where the light from the screen/buttons is shining through, it's not impractical just a little bit annoying and makes it seem like they didn't fit the screen 100% properly also the right edge of the screen seems to be darker, for example if I open something white on the screen it seems as if there was a shadow coming from the right edge of the screen.
Posting an update for future reference. The device has been sent of to HTC on the 18th of Feb and returned today however there was no email or nothing informing me about return of the device, not only that they haven't included any document stating what has been done to the phone if anything has been done at all (except of a hard reset ofc). The gap at the bottom is still there and light shines through it as much as ever, the device came completely dead without any charge what so ever, I have now stuck it in the freezer and after 20 minutes I will check on it to see if my issue still persists, if it does then HTC is just a joke of a company.
At least the haven't charged me... yet. Will post an update.
I am having touch issue here with Xperia XA1. I bought two phones for me and my gf. Touch on the edges of the phone are not working properly on both phones. Keyboard keys like P and L are unresponsive.
I have seen other people complaining on Sony Forum.
Is anyone here having the same issue?
Thanks.

Not here. The full keyboard works without any trouble. If you enable "show taps" in developer options, you can see if your phone is actually detecting your touch.
It could be a faulty digitizer. Happens with even the best flag ships so it's not impossible.

Hi there. I see that you are using an XA1, can I ask you something? Would you be so kind to share its stock wallpapers from its system files please? I know this is not related to your topic but I'm just so desperate to have them...:crying:
I have no Issues with my touch screen. Although when I bought a new cheap screen protector off ebay I am finding sometimes it becomes "unresponsive" (in the corners the screen protector "lifts up" due to the curved glass of the phone and starts collects dust/grime).
Removing the screen protector fixes the issue. Do you have a screen protector?
Another option would be to go into: Settings - About phone - Diagnostics to test the screen. you can tap/ swipe anywhere on the screen and it will give you feedback on if it registered the tap or not. Lets us know!
I also experienced this issue but after switching from Swiftkey keyboard to G-Board and it seems that the issue went away so I doubt it is a hardware issue.
I'm just going to provide an update and say that now even without the screen protector, this phone doesn't really register my touches at the bottom right hand side of the screen. Especially the letter "p", "l", and the backspace key.
Changing keyboards doesn't seem to fix anything. Not sure if I should request for a new phone, or if it could be software related.
EDIT: It seems to have gotten progressively worse. Now its almost impossible to press the "p", "L" and backspace keys and the touch registers maybe 20% of the time. I'm going to ask for a refund, or a replacement.

That's got to be hardware. I reckon your digitizer is faulty. You should be able to return it to the retailer for a replacement. Or get Sony to do it for free.

I have same problem and go to sony care 3 days. Everything work perfectly
I want to give a summary of my story here.
I bought two xperia xa1 about a month ago. Both phones are having touchscreen issue within a week (edges of the screen are not sensitive). I sent to local service center in Singapore.
Now I have got my phones back. They replaced the screen for both phones and they are working fine so far.
Thanks to Sony, my new phones become refurbished phones just after being bought.
I feel like I bought refurbished phones with premium price.
It appears , there are certain batch of devices which have digitizers issues along edges ....
There are similar complaints on amazon regarding the same.

I thought so. Reading through forums on Sony and other websites and you see quite a few people who have this issue.
I got mine replaced on the spot at the store I bought my phone from. So far no issues. But I keep my fingers crossed.
Sony should address this issue. It might be a cheap phone, but still it's their responsibility and should issue a recall, or a replacement for all phones that have this issue.

This is not the first time ,when a batch of devices faced an issue .AFAIK, Xperia Z has a lot with yellow tint. Also one another phone with really fragile speaker.
This might be issue with one particular batch , which might have escaped while testing.
Or issue with display vendor.
Otherwise a solid device.
You don't have to stick with the keyboard the phone came with also why not use the speech to text function and just talk
Yes. I too had the same issue. Did a screen and touch replacement under warranty. Working well

What screen protector are you guys using ?
There are some reports about screen protectors interfering with touch.
I am not using any screen protection , just a generic rubber case for impact protection.

You can resize the keyboard to "deal" with the issue. But keep in mind that this touch screen issue affect all other apps too. Games and stuff. I personally don't think it is possible to use a phone with a defecting touch screen for long.

I am currently using the Zuslab 3D curved tempered glass screen protector I bought off ebay.
Its good, it does cover the whole screen, including the curved edges of the phone, however, it only has adhesive around the edges of the screen protector, not in the middle. So the middle of the screen does feel a little "hollow" as it an air bubble and not adhesive.

Maybe the touch issue is a software problem. A few hours ago someone on gsmarena said the problem was resolved with latest software update! (in the XA1 discussion).
