Note 2 headphone jack issue - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hello All,
I have been having issues with my headphone jack. It started out with static on the headphone jacks and ended up becoming completely dead in a span of 2 months. Reading through many of the Google search results, I did what everyone suggested. Tightened the screws near the camera and then replaced the headphone jack assembly. I am still not able to make it work. The earpiece is working fine though. Any suggestions?

Have you tried different headphones?
Are they are plugged in all the way?
If you push the headphone plug in a direction perpendicular to the jack (try several directions), does it make it any better/worse?
I had issues with my headphone jack and I just replaced it today and it works perfectly. Are you sure the cable connecting the jack to the motherboard is connected completely? You could also inspect the connector on the motherboard to make sure the connector looks in good shape with nothing bent, etc. If all is well and you are confident the replacement was good, I would say your motherboard could be bad...which is a little strange since your earpiece is working and it uses the same connection.

I give mine a good smack against a hard object. Usually just below the camera lens, and under the headphone jack works the best. I know it sounds like I'm joking, but seriously, give it a shot. I suspect the root cause is probably a loose connector, but I've never cracked mine open.

Try tightening the screws on the back of the phone. I have heard it can fix the loose connection.

[Q] headphone jack issue

My headphone jack has started to act strange a few days ago. I can only hear out of one side and the otherside sounds kind of low. I thought it was my headphones so I bought a new pair but even the brand new pair does the same thing in my phone. I noticed if I push back on the base of the plug that goes into the jack and apply some pressure, it restores full sound to both ears. Has anyone had this issue? I figure it's hardware related and I need to take it into a Sprint store to be repaired/replaced. Any ideas?

Yep, its hardware related. Its the physical connector.

If you have a cover on the phone, remove it and try again. I've seen covers interfere with the plug too.

Headphone jack

I have been having issues with my headphone Jack and music only coming out of the left speaker. Is there a way to fix this? It works when I move the Jack around, but then stops after I let go. If anyone has any ideas, info, or tricks let me know, it will much apprcieated.

You have to buy a new headphone. I have experienced that several times. In different phones. There is no way to get it to work. Only a new headphone will do the trick. Try another headphone and im almost sure that itll work.
-Press THANKS if i helped.
I've tried half a dozen or so 1/8" jacks same issue its internal but thanks any ways

I've had sense problem also when going to auxiliary port for the car i didn't really try to fix it though just gave up

I had that problem and was able to fix it. The problem for me was the metal piece that contacts the jack was slightly popping up out of place. I took the battery door/battery off and then removed the back housing. I stuck a little piece of foam on the metal piece that was popping out of place so the back housing would hold it in place. Has worked perfectly since.
I'll try and find a pic of what I'm talking about. Pic added, I circled the area in red.

N7105 audio? capacitor values

Hi guys,
I would appreciate some help if anyone has the knowledge or acces.
I was given a note n7105 that had been water damage. I cleaned it up and got it working but it had a mic issue.
The short story is that I found a loose component on the board that looked like it had corroded at one end. I tried to solder it back on but being as far gone as it was, it disintegrated.
Now all this does is make the on board mics completely useless, they don't work at all ( I assume it provides ac coupling to/from the audio chip) but the Bluetooth/auxiliary mic does (which I think is coupled by a component adjacent to the broken one).
I am in desperate need of the value of that component (assumed capacitor) to make my mic/s work again.
Any and all help is appreciated.
Yes I've googled this for three days. No I haven't found any useful information yet that is why I'm asking here.

Hi,
Microfone coupling capacitors can be very diferent. You can can try one of 1 uf, and experiment, if that doesn't go well try another value like 4.7uf or 10 u or even 100 nf.
You can buy 4 or 5 eletrolityc capacitors with diferent values and try. Place it with carefull and don't heat too much the motherboard.
After you find the one that suits better,
buy smd and place it.
Thanks mocito. I cleaned it up with about 350° heat small hakko tip ( way too big BTW) but it worked. I know a dead short is wrong because the thing wouldn't turn on. Open circuit I believe is the cause of my audio routing issues, mainly because I had the opposite problem true the day before. The on board mics worked and the headsets wouldn't. I found this component leaning on the one next to it, and when removed it brought about my current issue.
It would be nice to confirm that this component is tied to the onboard mic audio.
I'll try a few different values if I can get my hands on them and give it a shot. It would be nice to get working. Kinda just sporting a small tablet in its current function.

Well I fixed it. Two problems I had with this unit. That cap was dislodged and my mic (board assembly at the bottom of the phone with the antenna contacts) was also jiggered. But, with some perseverance I got a capacitor about the same size as the big one just above those two tiny ones and soldered one pad to the side of that big one and to the bottom of the little one that I am assuming couples the audio for the bluetooth and external headsets. They were in common with the top and bottom solder pads for the missing capacitor. Once again if someone can confirm my assumptions I would appreciate it. Thanks mocito for your input.

Head jack malfunction

Hey guys!
I was wondering if anyone would know how to go about fixing a head jack that only works on both speakers in certain positions and on 1 speaker in other positions. I've tried cleaning it out multiple times but to no avail. Any ideas?
TIA

Some people have experienced shorting of the port due to slightly larger Audio cables. S3 requires slim cables.
I had to get Warranty replacement myself for this reason.

[Q] Fried Headphone Driver?

So I am having a weird issue with my headphone jack. I have replaced it to no avail.
One day it just started getting all static-y and then cut out in a period of 10 seconds or so. If I wiggle the headphone jack it will come back on. However, without even touching the device, it cuts back out sometimes.
I have tried flashing different ROMS so I know its not software related.
I had not played with any audio software that boosts gain that could have damaged it that way.
As I previously stated, I ordered a replacement jack and replaced it, making sure the ZIF connector is snug and making contact.
It does it with anything plugged into my headphone jack, any pair of headphones, any stereo with a 3.5mm to RCA cable, anything.
Has anyone experienced this? I have a feeling whatever circuitry that drives the headphone jack itself is damaged.
Audio is always fine over the speaker or bluetooth.
Thanks in advance.

It's a common issue with these phones. I went through the same thing you did, ended up replacing the jack multiple times to no avail. Eventually just cashed in on my phone insurance and had them send me a new one. As far as I could find, no one was able to resolve the issue once it began happening, but it would gradually get worse.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I'd hate for you to chase your tail around as I did. Temporary fix is putting pressure from the front of the phone to the back in a pinch fashion about where the headphone jack is. Goodluck!
Try using a hair dryer on it for a few minutes (medium to no heat with a fast sweeping motion... not concentrating the air on it 100% of the time). There may be some moisture in the connection that might be messing with it (happened a few times with my portable devices and it helped all the time).

I have fixed tons of these on our phones. Common issue. That part is like 5 bucks the you need to replace. Taking the phone apart to do so, its pretty simple. on a scale of 1-10 10 being hardest i give it a 3. I can assure you wont void warranty because there's nothing to void, lol. If you need help advice or want me to do it for ya, send me a message.

What is the part you are referring too? I have already replaced The headphone jack and it did not fix it.
If you replaced the internal jack. Then 1 you ordered a defective one or 2 your main board is fried. If you bought the part from China its probably bad. Edit: did you actually replace the headphones yet?

I ordered it from a US seller. And yes the headphones were the first thing I replaced. The headphone circuitry must be fried. Oh well. Thanks for the help guys.
Did you clean the area with 99% alcohol?
