Is anyone else having issues with the IR blaster on their G3? I can't get my smart remote app to work like it did on my Note 3. Tried multiple apps and none have worked. Anyone else have issues with it?
Mine works great.... Have added all the Devices in my house that I want to control.....Theres also a quick setting up in the notification bar off to the right that allows you to quick toggle it on. I believe I also set it to turn on automatically when I am home on my wifi somewhere....But i forget where i did that at the moment.....
The native app is working fine for me. Some of the 3rd party apps might not be compatible with the G3's blaster
I can't get mine to work on lg TV but it works on my Samsung tv

I think it started good after a update to the app or perhaps after I flashed my phone with the kdz file. All I know is I am a happy camper. The damn thing would only work from two feet away when I first got this phone.
Mine only works from a few feet away! 'Sup with that? (
Was able to set everything up just fine but like others it only works from a few feet away when pervious devices had no problems from other rooms...... Curious

Hey guys
I treid today to use the wifi direct function but i cant configure like the sgs2,.
Tryin to send a movie from a sgs2 to my GN but it didn't work anyone an idea or some help
Thnx in advance

Same here. This morning I tried to setup Wifi-Direct on GN but was a no go. My SGS2 has Wifi direct configuration where you can name your device and setup password etc plus scan for other devices. GN however doesn't have anything like this and you can only turn it ON or OFF. SGS2 scanned for 2 mins and wasn't able to see GN.
Do I need any applications or is there something that myself and OP is missing?
I tried this this morning with a coworker who has a GN too but couldn't figure it out. I also tried the beam thing which says you can just magically hold them back to back and it works? Are there apps that need to be installed to get these things working?
Anyone have any links to literature on beam and wifi direct?
Bump.
This thing does seem odd enough to be worthy of some bumping.

It's a new technology that should allow compatible devices to connect to each other over wifi to transfer files without an access point. Pretty much an ad hoc type network.
I would assume we should be able to use it to connect to other GN but it MAY just be OS support and we need an actual application to make it work?
Bump. This is incredibly annoying.

Beam works fine. Try opening a homepage, and it will ask to transmit when touching another Nexus
Sendt fra min Galaxy Nexus
Seems like maybe they have only baked the API into the OS, but we need devs to create apps that make it useful, based on the Platform Highlights for 4.0 and the Demo app they released. Bummer. Some patient waiting to do, I guess.
I've searched the market for a "wifi-direct" app but there doesn't seem to be one.
Anyone else found anything?
Apparently not a very popular option among people out there.
bump. ytd nite trying to transfer all the songs and ringtones from my GalNote to GalNex using wifi direct, then dunno how to proceed cz totally cant find any settings or configuration in GalNex. enabled both wifi direct, den GalNote can detact my GalNex but failed to connect :X
Bump. My brother has sgs2 and I looked dumb trying to try wifi direct....nothing happens. No options besides on/off

Me too, I tried setup my gn wifi direct, but it w/o any setting, then i use my bro s2 to search my gn mobile, s2 search the name called android xxx, i think this is my mobile, bcs when i off my gn wifi direct, s2 cant search any mobile, when i tried connect my gn mobile, but finally after i wait over 2 mins it still not success.
I think we can conclude if you need to check with forums on the internet and still haven't started transmitting anything two weeks later, it's not a very "direct" sort of technology.
So people at the office have Wifi-direct and I have Android beam. And neither works with each other.
This is Android-awesomeness right now.
Anyone found out how it works? sorry for the bump but good be very useable...
I haven't tried this but it is at least a suggestion. Try opening the gallery, opening a picture and then hitting the share button. Maybe there is an option in there for wi-fi direct?
EDIT: Nevermind. Looks like I mis-understood what this feature was.
Check out this to see if it helps?
http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/WiFiDirectDemo/index.html
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/wifi/p2p/package-summary.html
"remember that the feature is supported only on Android 4.0 (API level 14) and higher versions of the platform. " So looks like you have to connect to another device running ICS
wifi is there but not functional yet
guys in galaxy nexus the capability to use WIFI direct is there but not programmed and left to be added as an add on or so .. developers need to make a program or even a rom to enable this feature but most likely google will adapt the samsung software for wifi direct just like SGSII ..
hope someone just develop it soon
Yep it's purely an api for developers to use in order to connect to the same app(or another one with an official api) running on another device.
Google may very well add this into the gallery and so on, but for now it's a developer option. The implementation on the sgs2 on the other hand does not allow for developers to add in AFAIK and it's purely for use in the samsung apps.
I compiled and installed that WifiDirectDemo app and it doesn't really work. The GN and SGS2 see each other but the connection does nothing.
Hey I was wondering if you could screen mirror or wifi direct to your smart tv. I know after you root your phone the option no longer works, but does aosp or aokp or any google based roms allow you to do this? If I wanted these options back can I just use stock kernel to get this to work?

Just throwing this out there....the Samsung MHL adapter works great for me on my rooted S4. It's not wireless, but still.
I wouldn't think that rooting alone would stop those services from working though. ?

With the adapter you still get the message screen mirroring not allowed. At least with xfinity player. Hbo works fine with it.

As I stated, it works fine for me, though I don't use xfinity player.
I know it's not wifi tethering, but hey this is a bandaid for me. Clockwork Mod Tether works perfect, regardless of if the play store says it's compatible.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.tether
Go nuts.
Have not tried the USB to PC side yet, but Easy Tether works for Bluetooth to my HP Touch pad running CM9. Used this on previous phones also but haven't had time to try on PC yet.
Sweet! Going to try this one later for sure!

I think I tried that one and got the usual error (in stock form). Give it a whirl and let us know though. I just started going down the list installing a bunch of tethering apps until I found one or a few that worked.
is this still working for you guys? reviews seems mixed on the play store
Mine connect and works fine.... But then it will randomly disconnect and I have to reconnect again.
Not sure what is going on. Did this with this and a separate usb tethering app.

Has anybody using this installed the ZV8 update on their phone?
If so any effect on USB tethering or still working as before?

I'm going to answer my own question and confirm that it still works post-update. I switched over to using the Wifi/USB Tether hack for a while, but am now back to using CWM Tether. In strong signal areas the hack works fantastic, but I find that out in the country with one bar it's very iffy. Perhaps this is an issue of the phone going in and out of data service and the connection not being restored gracefully when that happens? Whatever the case, CWM doesn't seem to have this same problem and maintains a fairly continuous connection without me having to restart my phone repeatedly.

Had my Gear S3 paired to my Pixel XL for a couple days now. For the most part it works as advertised, a couple glitches so far.
Yesterday I dialed my wife from my phone and it passed the audio through my Gear S3, then I hung up and tried it again and this time it routed the call through my Pixel.
Today my alarm went off and only the phone notified me, then later on the day another alarm went off and this time the phone and watch notified me (which is what it's supposed to do).
Another glitch today was I received a couple emails, the watch made the notification sound but no vibration. Then the next few email notifications it notified me via sound and vibration (which is what I set it to do).
Don't know if it's a glitch with the Gear S3 but its only happened a couple times. Still LOVE THE WATCH.
Oh by the way if you get the Frontier, the bezel feels loose and it almost drove me crazy until I went to Best Buy to try out the demo they had and it felt the same.
Samsung pay actually works for me. It's weird cause everyone online says it doesn't I have 5 cards paired and have used it at sheets. I had no issues. Maybe the app was updated today as I just got mine today... But that was the one thing I hated to let go from my note 7 now I literally have the best of both worlds... This is thee best smart watch I've used right down to build quality.
Have you guys gotten text messages and responding to work or is that Svoice and Samsung messaging app only?
I've had both paired for over a month now (since the S3 came out) and love it. The biggest feature for me was Samsung Pay since the S3 has MST support. The Gear app updated about a week after having it which worried me because I thought it would work right out of the box. Even with the Pixel XL rooted, running a custom kernel, and an unlocked bootloader, Pay works fine. You just have to sign back into the Samsung Pay app through the Gear app after every few purchases (which can get annoying when you're trying to be cool.). Anyway, once you set up S-Voice you can send texts through it. I am using Textra and it works fine. I would imagine it would work with stock messenger as well. I can also use S-Voice to make calls through the stock dialer. Haven't used it for emails yet.
There have been a few things on the watch that have bothered me. If I turn off the call feature (because taking calls through the watch is most times inconvenient) then turning the ring doesn't work to answer or reject calls. It would be nice if you were to turn it and the phone would answer in speaker mode. Also, my watch always locks on me. I think with the factory strap the watch rides up too high on my wrist and a tattoo there messes with the sensors and the watch thinks i'm not wearing it. It's annoying to have enter my pin everytime I want to look at a notification. I'm am ordering another strap which I hope will hold the watch closer to my wrist and tighter to the skin which I hope will help.
Battery life has been great with me, but I don't have LTE, Wi-Fi, or the AOD on. Through regular use from 0700-2200, I put it on the charger and it has 87% life left on average.
At the end of the day, I love it. I just wish Samsung would ditch Tizen and go with Android Wear. I'm sure they could make Samsung Pay work with Wear.

The only issue I had was that Hangouts would not allow me to reply until I installed Android Wear. Counterintuitive I know, but it seems there are some parts in Android Wear that Hangouts needs to work with Samsung Gear.

Cool thanks, last question for now. Do you have a messaging app on the apps screen? Is that possible?
Hi
Most annoying issue for me is when im trying to answer incoming call using phone call is passed via gear s3 anyway - all the time
Anybody has same issue? Any suggestions?
Samsung Pay wasn't working initially but around a month ago I updated the gear app and up it popped. No other issues to report as yet.

So when you answering phone call using phone call is passed via phone or via watch?
Will Android Pay work on the Gear S3? I know, it sounds counter intuitive to use AP instead of SP but I've ran into situations before that no matter what I did, I couldn't get SP to work on an NFC payment terminal. Honestly, it's still so hit and miss I'd only really feel like messing with mobile payments via NFC which for me goes back to Android Pay.
Is there still those problems available with the s3 or everything is gone cause am planning to get one if everything is fixed!

I'm considering buying one of these. I would sometimes want LTE capability, but would mostly want to turn it off to preserve battery. It sounds like you've got an advanced setup. Also, you mentioned being able to disable LTE. Is the option to disable LTE available to regular (non-advanced) folks like me?
Thanks in advance!

The device has a smart network function that disables the mobile radio while the Bluetooth connection is active. Then once you don't have a Bluetooth connection for like thirty seconds it enables it
In my first attempt at setting it up, it looked as though the "bluetooth only" model SM-R760 wasn't going to support text msgs with my Pixel XL. I reset the watch and did the setup again, and still no messaging app. Later discovered it DOES support text messaging with my Pixel, but only receive and respond. You cannot originate a message on the watch. A small compromise. It was confusing at first. But glad I don't have to pay more for a carrier supported model to have SMS on my Gear S3.
As per the thread title, has anyone successfully gotten any of the streaming apps to work on Android Auto that has root? I was thinking that I would be able to get it working once I had root but that's not the case. I can get them working on my Galaxy or LG devices (both unrooted) just fine but not on my pixel which has root
Android 12 and recent AA versions seem to break screen mirroring apps. Haven't tried CarStream or similar.

Did you properly set up Zygisk (-> Enforce Denylist)? And set up Universal SafetyNet Fix?
I do not use Androidauto, but all the apps I'm using (banking, security, google pay etc) work without a problem once Zygisk is properly set up.
Yes but it's not likely a safety net thing though
The stream2auto and AA Tweaker threads have some clues. But I've not tried them myself.
I've been able to recently get stream2auto working for one day by uninstalling AA and installing version 6.9.613744. Lost it next time I tried to use it. Also needed to clear app data for AA and Google Play services. This is due to a combination of AA and Google Play Services doing their best to remove third party apps from AA.
I've seen some suggestions for using LuckyPatcher to rename screen2auto. Also seen some for detaching AA from the playstore, but have not tried those for a more permanent. Read through the links posts/threads for more insight.

Lucky you. I was able to get those to install and both show up in AA but fc when trying to launch. AA 7.1.614574. will try updating to that version and see but I'm not optimistic.
Interestingly enough yesterday when I started AA I got that warning that happens every so often where AA doesn't start and makes you have to stop and agree to the terms again and everything started working again. Idk if it's just luck or there's something to it but what I did was used AAAd to download catstream 2.05 and the AA Aio tweaker app to patch catstream and it works... For now
