I have an SGS which was originally purchased on and locked to Orange. I have unlocked the handset to O2.
This now presents a problem with the handset being recognised by Kies for upgrading the firmware (apparently unlocking the handset removes something from the phone's system leaving it unable to be upgraded.
Is there a workaround for this please?
Many thanks.
Hi,
I have a docomo SC-04D Galaxy Nexus from Newegg. I got it just days before Google started selling it It has ICS 4.0.1, sim unlocked with a proper IMEI. I have a few questions about updating and unlocking it; I was hoping one of you guys might be able to help me out with some questions I have.
I'm hoping to forever unlock it using mrx8836350's F*** docomo app V3.1 keeping the original IMEI and update it to 4.0.4. However, since I'm a complete beginner to Android, I thought I might use the phone as it is for a few days before jumping into the whole rooting/flashing/unlocking thing.
1. Is there a way to find out if the sim unlock is temporary or permanent?
2. Today I received a system update from Samsung (~8.4 MB), but I haven't installed it yet. The phone prompts me to install it from time to time. If my sim unlock is temporary, will applying the update wipe out the unlock?
3. If I'm to try forever unlock and update to 4.0.4 (by flashing stock yakju image), should I unlock first and then update, or do it the other way around?
Thanks.

1.FULL wipe the phone is the fastest way to find out.

[Q] [SOLVED] Docomo GNex: Need some help with OTA and sim unlock
Thanks for the answer (although it came a bit late ). I have already updated to 4.0.4. First I tried the OTA update, but it didn't work (comes to the screen with the exclamation mark and goes back to 4.0.1 after reboot). I came to know it happened probably because some firmware (boot, recovery, etc.) coming from a different build (or non-stock). Having being fed up with the update notifications, I then flashed 4.0.4 from the google image and the sim unlock survived the process. So I guess the sim unlock was permanent after all.
Just wondering how this happened cos it never came up before when I used flashtool.

Really don't know exactly what it does, but generally you don't include this file when you bundle a rom with flashtool, so no harm.

how do i unlock it? That's the whole point of me posting about this.
After i unlock my bootloader, i face this issue. but flashing finished successfully. Sometime it may be a DRM key related item.
Dont flash that file. its simlock data and if you flash it on a phone with different imei then you will kill the phone without any way other than sony service center to fix it.
Don't worry about that, i always get that warning and there was no problem.

I've read this 'simlock.ta' thread with some interest because I have a similar issue myself.. Might you have any suggestions?
In short, my Xperia (Ray) refuses to read my SIM card. In fact, it doesn't even ask me for my PIN number, it just boots as normal but I have no connection to any network. I've tried using the SIM card in another phone and it works fine, therefore the problem is with the phone itself.
I'd recently had my phone network & bootloader unlocked by wotanserver using the test point method - because of this I thought the DRM keys would be fine (e.g. TrackId & Timescape still worked). However, when I was updating from GB .42 to .62 OTA (to flash a GB ROM) my phone bricked! So, I ended up using s1tool to restore the locked bootloader. Then I used flashtool to flash a stock ICS ftf file. It seemed to work (the phone rebooted) but it was then I noticed that the SIM card wasn't being recognised. Also, in the Flashtool log I noticed that a blue line was there saying 'this file is ignored simlock.ta'.
Hard resets & updating with Sony Update Service isn't working and I'm really confused at this stage.
Is my phone screwed for good?
Same Problem with Xperia J

Did you find a solution for your problem?
In reality, I have the same problem with an xperia j (ST26i) , with some differences:
Initial Problem:
- The mobile belongs to my cousin, she updated it with the sony update center to the latest version (JB 4.1.2) and there: problem with the wifi when the sim.
- I got the mobile, and downgrade to the 4.0.4 version, I've tried 4 different versions:
-> ST26i_11.0.A.3.18_Global
-> ST26i_11.0.A.7.5_CE
-> ST26i_11.0.A.3.28_WE
-> St26i_4.0.4_11.0.A.3.28_CE3
I had always the problem with the wifi when the sim plugged.
Finally I've tried also the UNOFFICIAL CM 10, with no success
- I found a solution with the apk wifix manager witch worked with the 28 WE version of the firmware.
But I've continued to search an other solution, and I've remarked that when I flash the rom I always get the Warn: "This file is ignored : simlock.ta "
After some research I get an advice by a member of XDA to rename the file as "preset.ta", AND THERE, it works no warning ... BUT the sim is blocked (not locked) and I have always the message (invalid card).
I've tried to reflash the firmware many times, to relock the bootloader (with appropriate ftf proposed in this forum ), Tried to use the sony update service .. But I have always the same problem (INVALID CARD)
I've also tried to format everything with CWM (system,card,cache) and made a sdcard partition, and NO way.
So, can any body help me with that please?!
Note : I'm in the middle east zone, some suggestions in the web talk about re-installing the official O2 rom, but I've searched this ROM with no success.

I have this error on XPERIA SP C5303 trying to flash 12.0.A.1.284 on top of 12.0.A.1.257. But my phone is SIM Locked and I know it. And I thought that rewriting simlock.ta from unlocked firmware unlock the phone as well. But flashtool skipping that file. It's really annoying !!! Don't know what to do to unlock it now

You should be happy it isn't flashing. FLASHING SOMEONE ELSE'S TA MAY HARD-BRICK YOUR DEVICE. In this state, I've heard even sony need to replace entire motherboard.
well i have sony tipo dual st21i2 android phone and i have same problem with device my phone is dual sim phone and both sim are work well some time ago but when itry to update firmware using flash tool and than i see the 2nd sim is working stopped suddenly and sim 1 is working good and if i put only sim 2 in the phone its also working good and if sim 1 ony present in phone its good working also ,,,,,,,but problem start when i put both sim inside the phone and than i try different type of firmwares but no success bootloder unlock and relocked also but no result but my doubt is there i try a secret code and if this code is cause the problem in my phone *#*#7378423#*#* so if any one have idea to solve my problem please share here
I purchased an experia play r800at and it came already sim unlocked. I decided I wanted to go further so I use the paid method to have my bootloader unlocked as well. After all is said and done I install a custom rom and my phone does not recognize my sim card as if it's not even there. I tried a few different custom roms and they all did the same thing. When I go back to stock rom though I have no issues at all. I had also purchased a r800i white phone, but with my white phone I went through sony's way to unlock the bootloader instead of the unofficial way I used with my blue one. I now can do what ever I want with the r800i without any problems, but am still stuck with using the stock rom with my r800at. Does anyone have any advice on how I can fix this? The white phone is only a 2G phone so I gave it to someone else to use cause the blue one is 4G and I need that more. I would really like to install an ICS rom on my r800at so if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them and try them out. Thanks:cyclops:
So you want to install a ICS official and you have the bootloader locked?
Yes you are sim unlocked. BUT you need to have your bootloader unlocked as well. They are both clearly 2 different things. In order for you to intall customs rom your bootloader needs to be unlocked not sim.
Hi there,
I have a lt26w xperia - and I don't seem to be able to load any sim card. I've tried a couple network so far. It was owned by someone who tried to unlock it. I've had to unlock the network from it when I've received it, as it was locked to some asian cellphone company.
It's a stock rom, but it's rooted and the bootloader is lock. The network (wifi) is working fine. How can I check if there is some problem with the bootloader blocking the sim? I read that if you used fastboot to unlock the bootloader you can break things in the phone.
On another note, can I upgrade to lollipop with a locked bootloader?
I'm on 4.0.4
baseband version 8660-aaabqolym-314010-22
kernel 3.0.8+1.0.21100-30145-01956-g43358ca
Not sure how to troubleshoot -thanks for any help
