Couple of g3 questions from someone wrestling with an s5.. - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
I was wondering if you may be able to help with some advice regarding the G3.
Here's where I'm at.. I've been using a loan g3 for a week and I love it.. That screen just blows my mind. I've tried the Xperia Z2, the. htc M8.. Neither of them match or even come close.
What I am finding though is there is one issue that really irritates me. The lack of being able to call up the voice mate software using the headset. It is impossible. To give you an idea of where i was before.. I used an iPhone 5S and A Galaxy s5.. I used Siri all the time and find S Voice to be brilliant. I drive a lot and also walk around a lot listening to music and I hate walking worth my phone in my hands in London. Total muggers target.
With the S5, you just press the headset call button for a few seconds and it brings up S Voice which then allows me to play music without looking at the phone. I can't believe the same functionality has been left out of the g3. I've been through all the menus and tried saying the keywords to bring it up and it doesn't work. Am I totally missing something or has LG dropped the ball here?
The only thing I can find that is close is to press the unlock button while the phone is in my pocket to unlock the screen and then use the headset button which does bring up Voice mate. But it then doesn't do anything until I press the onscreen button to complete my command. If I press the headset button again, it doesn't do anything.
Similarly, the S5 features a car mode which just works. It audio connects to my Bluetooth stereo and then opens itself and plays tunes just by me saying Hi Galaxy. I can't seem to find anyway of achieving this with the g3. It's a big thing because having to unlock the phone then find the software key then swipe up to voice mate means I take my eyes off the road which really isn't ideal.
Can anybody help? It may sound like an insignificant thing but this is a big thing to me and means I'll have to plump for the s5 even though my heart tells me I really want the g3 more.
Oh and how do you guys find battery life? Is there a way of emulating the extreme power saving mode brought to us by the likes of the s5 and HTC One m8 rather than the pretty paltry built in battery save app?
Thanks in advance.

You have to activate voice recognition on the lockscreen within voice mate settings and the app starts listening with the "LG Mobile" or "Hello Genie" hotword (whatever you've set from these two).
My battery life is pretty solid, around a day and a half with moderate (web, streamed music, some casual games,...) and through the whole day with heavy (web, music, high demand games,...) use.

LG's implementation of this is horrible on all of their phones; I have been trying to get this to work on my LG flex for 6 months and it just wont..

I might be confused but can't you just press the dedicated button on your earphones to start playing music? Why do you need to go through Voice Mate? Also, Google Now now supports voice commands for music playback as well. I believe that can be activated by long pressing the headset button.

I wanted to use voice mate to make calls, but, its absolutely worthless on the LG flex; it never recognizes a word you say..
Hope its better for you folks on the G3

Hi Japultra,
This is the thing.
There are three buttons on the headset. The main one just stops and starts music. Long pressing it starts nothing. It just sits there. Long pressing the volume down button launches the camera, and the same with the up button launching the note taking software. These are no changeable.
They don't launch VoiceMate OR Google Now.
I like to talk to my phone and tell it to play particular songs, then to call someone, then maybe play a song by someone else. Rather than having to walk down the street with my phone in my hand like a mugger's target doing it all the old fashioned way.

Is there no way to set Google Now to be the default on the long press of the button? Also, which parts of London are you walking through that's so dangerous? I live here and have never had an issue with my phone.

Not that I can figure out - but if you know a way, please share.
I walk through a lot of London. Granted, mostly between Knightsbridge where I work and Surrey - but that's not the point.. It just takes once for a phone to be snatched out of a hand and I switch between songs that often, it's so easy with S-Voice or Siri to just hit the cable. I can't believe the G3 has left this out. Seems potty.

Have you tried activating Google Now? I'm pretty sure this is possible on all Android handsets - just gotta figure out how....

headphone controls

Hey guys
Can you not skip tracks using the controls on the headphones in Zune? Just seems to pause/resume on my HD7.
Headphone controls as far as i know them:
- press once: Play/Pause
- press twice: Next track
- press 3. times: Start again from the beginning of the current track
- long press: Start voice command
Thats what I thought but neither the 2 or 3 button presses work. the hold and single press work though.
Dunno if theres some setting I am missing.
would anyone be able to check this works on their phone, as I contacted HTC and they say WP7 doesnt support skipping etc from the headphone remote.
yea, as far as i can tell it doesn't at present. the fastest way is via the lock screen.
its really an annoying thing taking from pocket everytime mobile jsut to skip track
Ps. 1st post so hello to everybody

Cheers for testing that Gate Keeper, hmm hope they add that feature or theres some hack work around.
Use it for running, and trying to skip tracks using the lock screen is a pain, not to mention ive sometimes unlocked the screen and closed the running app I needed open by accident.
"Controltalk" on Diddybeats and iBeats work although I've never tested them in a call.
Strangely they don't seem to work on a Zune HD.
Focus
All of the presses work for my Samsung Focus. Maybe it's something with presets and EQ HTC added to their phones.
Working fine on LG Optimus 7

My headset remote buttons are no longer working

Nothing happens when I press the play/pause button, or the skip to next track, or the skip to previous track button. I tried this with Winamp playing in the foreground. I'm not sure if this is possible with Winamp. So I also tried it with MortPlayer Music which is what I have used previously and I know it supports this feature. But still nothing. Usually Mort will start playing as soon as I press the play button on the remote, even when it's not in the foreground or not even launched. But now... just silence.
I have SuperNova ROM with Data2SD and Android 2.3.3. I have S-OFF, root, and stock HBOOT.
Is there some service or process missing? Or not running in the background? What else could it be?
Just for clarification, the headset is working, I mean I can hear the music, it's just that there is no way to use the buttons to control it (except through the app).
Edit:
Also, is there something like a menu option or control panel, some means of controlling which app gets to use the headset buttons? Or a way of setting which app is the default music player? Or which one is the default browser for instance? Is this possible in Android? Some centralized place where you can set all of these things, a little bit like Windows style?
not tried it myself, but does this app work? it's a trial, so you can see if it works, and have to pay later. or might be other apps which are free and work, have a browse
(as an aside some roms allow long pressing of volume buttons to skip tracks, but i believe this has to be the stock music app, and probably has to be on the system partition)
Jack is the culprit!
I have found the culprit. It's my headset jack! You can check out the picture below.
I think some leads have broken inside the sleeve at the jack. That's why it bulges out like that, you can see that it's a little thick at that point. If I press and hold the cable at this point the remote control buttons work again, more or less, it glitches sometimes. If I let go it stops working, or it works sometimes if I move the cable around like when having the phone in a pocket.
For the record, this is the original HTC headset, I think it's RC-E160. The earbuds are still working though. So it's pretty much just a headphone right now. I haven't used it very much because, almost nothing at all, because of the poor sound quality. I started using it only like three months ago as as a temporary replacement when my Sony got broken. Now these are broken too. My Sony lasted much longer.
I still wonder how you can control which app gets priority and things like that, when you have like two or three different apps that respond to headset buttons. Is there no option in Android from where you can control this? Is your only option to uninstall the apps you don't want to be interfering? This doesn't seem well thought through.

LG Tone+ (HBS-730) bluetooth headphones

I've been using this headset/heaphones for a while now, previously with my Galaxy Nexus on 4.2.2 and 4.3, and I totally love them -- I wear them almost 24/7 as I use them a lot for making calls and listening to music while at work, as well as for music while working out, and I even pair them up with my HTPC in the bedroom for when i want to watch something while the g/f is sleeping.
But ever since getting my Nexus 5 I've had a couple issues with them, which probably is because of android 4.4. The main issue is that when I press the skip buttons to go to the next song the screen comes on, which it didnt use to do before, and that can be annoying. Also, i often have to press the buttons multiple times to get it to actually skip the songs, whereas before it would reliably change the tracts with a single press. Pressing the play button also doesnt reliably launch and start playing in Play Music like it would before. And when i press the call button on the left side, before it would launch Voice Dialer but now it usually launches google now, although a couple times it did randomly launch voice dialer.
Does anyone else have these same problems or is it just me? I'd like to find a way to make it so the screen doesnt turn on and the button presses are registered more consistently. I also would very much like to set what app pressing the call button will launch.
Feel free to also suggest any apps that you use with the headset to be even more convenient/productive. I wear it a lot while driving and wanted to have it handle reading and voice-inputting text messages while driving, but the LG app for this sucks and others I've tried havent really done what i wanted well enough.

[Q] Disabling Headset Button Control

Okay, I've searched everywhere for a free solution to this problem and have found none. After listening to music, I pause it and put my phone in my pocket, headphones wrapped around it. Everything's fine and dandy, but while in my pocket, the button on the urBeats turns on the music. This is not the worst part. If the button is double clicked, it calls the most recent number. I called my grandma 5 times yesterday. She was quite concerned. How do i change what the button does/disable it altogether? Thanks for answering.

I've had this issue too, running several different ROM's. I listen to iHeart radio while I run in the morning. and keep the phone in my sweatshirt pocket with screen turned off. As I run, and the phone bounces up and down, my phone spazzes out! It changes channel spontaneously, goes to google now search, prompting me to say something, and also as above, calls the last number called. When I run at 4:30 in the morning, this can be a problem. I thought it was just my headphones, but this may be a more wide-spread problem. This has happened to me while running AOSP (liquid smooth) and Sense (Nusense 6) I don't think it has anything to do with buttons, but I notice that if I twist the headphone jack around in the socket, it reproduces the problem. Anybody else?

I'm on ViperROM for future reference and the issue for me is definitely the button. One click turns on music, two clicks dials the last number. Holding it down opens google search. All of this is easily replicable. It happens in my pocket all the time and I want it to stop

I hate how it does that too. You can't even skip tracks with the headset. Someone needs to make an xposed thing for this.
Funny, switching headphones solved the problem for me. I was using jaw breaker ear buds, before, and tossed them (they had been through the washer a couple times anyway) Using the ear buds that came with my old Samsung GSIII, and they work fine with no skips, random calls, or google now prompts. Go figure. Read somewhere that it has to do with how securely the headset plug is held in the jack. Anyone else?

ok i found a xposed thing that does that, but it only works when music is playing so if the music app is closed, it will still call people with a double click (which i want disabled entirely). so this problem is only kinda solved with that. i wish there was something like it that was configurable.

The gloves are off - Notorious Headset control bug

First and foremost I feel obliged to express my disgust at how long this has been a problem in android. My S3 did it but nothing like as often and as much as my G3 does. The problem is when listening to music, if you don't explicitly stop your player from responding to headset controls. the music pauses, skips tracks, changes lists etc like all hell. Im given to understand the problem lies in the jack itself, and that twisting or so much as sneezing on the plug causes the rings to move which android falsely interprets as headset control commands.
It might sound like I have already solved my own problem with the above fix, but I ALSO had the problem of it launching google now voice recognition. This interrupts my songs and I wont lie I have come PERILOUSLY close to pegging my phone at a wall on more than one occasion. Its absolutely appalling this has been going on for this long. Rant over.
Heres my current situation firmware/root etc wise:
Android 6.0 marshmallow (its been a problem for me since jellybean)
Root access
Trying to install the xposed framework at the moment but doesnt look like its going to work with marshmallow
I will do legit anything to my phone to have this prick of a bug erradicated.
THanks for your time
Bump - anyone know of any solution? I Dont care if I need to completely cut out Google Now I will do It I legit cant take this crap anymore and I want to be able to run with my phone
