Phone is really nice. I think the form factor is phenomenal, very light, thin. Great great camera, that thing can focus to almost any macro distance, and quick. I'm impressed with that aspect.
There is a big but, I couldn't get over the quality of the screen. The whites are not even close to white, and text has a shadow of red pixels.
I also thought it wasn't bright enough, it was in Auto and I felt it was very dim. I turned it all the way up and that setting matched the mid level of the EVO 4G.
So for that reason, I wouldn't order it online before going to see it in person if I were you. You may not like the screen.
Turn off auto-brightness. The screen is top-notch.
The unit you were looking at was either faulty, or your trolling. The screen on this device is one of the main selling points and (maybe its my opinion, maybe its fact) SAMOLED+ screens are some of the best, if not the best screens currently being produced.
Development how???
open up your camera app.. thats where you'll get the best idea of the screen. right now ur just looking at icons/etc. its taken me awhile to get used to it.. but after 2 days, its very sharp and crisp IMO.i'm coming from the Evo btw
I just played with it...screen is amazing. I thought the huge screen without a change in resolution would be bad but it was nicer then my ns4g screen..easily
Obviously your eyes are bad because you posted this in the wrong section.
I love the screen, top notch if you ask me.

sure is troll in here. Of all the things you might be able to criticize the screen is the last. Now you may prefer a more accurate desaturated pictures...that's a matter of preference. Typically I do too, I do video editing and if anything is going to sweeten the video it's going to be me--and I have to have accurate colors to know if I am doing that or not.
...but this is a smartphone, it's for browsing and playing games. Sure, the occasional phone call if you have time...saturate the hell out of it.
Whites are white. Quit your trolling. Only a faulty SAMOLED+ would look bad, even to trained eyes who would know how exaggerated the colors are.
i lol at this thread.....the screen..........trolllllllllll
i mean if you dont like it you dont like it, but no point of making a thread just to get flamed
change screen type to movie and see if that helps
trolllllllllll???
I gave the phone great feedback but I'm insisting that the screen has some faults, which i personally won't accept.
If you guys don't like to hear the bad don't read reviews.

I'll more time to look at it in the few days and check movies setting.

I didn't make a thread to get flamed.
I made it so people know that maybe they should check it out before ordering online. I'm glad I didn't. (especially since my EVO still works nice, if i didn't have a working phone that would be another matter)
I think if you change it that will make it a whole new screen
Wow, you guys are quick with the negative replies. My Epic Touch's screen has a slight blue tint on white backgrounds as well. Not as bad as my old Moment's was, but is very obvious when comparing to computer/laptop monitors, the Evo 3D's screen, and my coworker's iPhone 4.
Edit - Changing to movie mode doesn't help. To see the blue, pull up xda-developers on both the Epic Touch and your computer then hold the phone up to the monitor and compare the white background. It is much warmer on the computer screen and much colder/bluer on the phone.
My Epic had a blue tinted screen. The Photon was a bit more reddish. I don't know if it is the LED style screen or just Samsung parts, but my LED monitor has a blue tint to it also.
I think the bluish tint is normal for the manufacturer, unless its Really bad...
Perhaps more people can compare to other fresh phones, not necessarily phones at the store. Those things get tore up bad in some places, at least they do where I am.
Damned people dragging their kids in and letting the display phones babysit them..
I've had two GN's. I swear my first one had a pure white LED notification light. This new one is prismatic. Red, blue, white. It's a whole bunch of colors melded together.
Does anyone else have the same or and I going color blind?
It's an RGB LED. Just like a white pixel, the white LED is made up of full-intensity red, green, and blue LEDs. That's what you're seeing is the individual LEDs.

I understand that. What I'm saying is one my first one, when the notification light was engaged, it was pure white. On this unit it's prismatic.
Am I going color blind? Is my unit defective? Should I be concerned? Or should I shut my giant pie hole?

Yeah, I think the "rainbow" effect is the norm. Not sure how your other one didn't do it. Maybe it was an earlier batch that had a different LED, but that seems unlikely (mine was pretty early too, I was one the first to get a retail one from P4U...)

Also I should note that mine is prismatic when I look at it, but when I "notice" the notification it looks pure white because I'm not focused on it. Maybe it didn't strike you as an oddity before so you didn't really focus on the color too much (I didn't really until I read this thread and then realized "oh yeah, it is multi-colored")?

You've probably already done this but you could use Light Flow to test it

Dude, thanks for posting. I'm not completely crazy!
Mine is white when I receive a call, and yellow-esh for all other notifications
I noticed this the following day of receiving my phone (Nov.26= first batch)
The affected colors are: (White, Yellow, Orange, Purple, Cyan, Magenta) while I don't find any problem with Red, Green, Blue. Of course that is because it is an RGB LED.
I'm using LED Color Tester
p.s. It is funny because an hour ago, I was checking youtube to compare my LED with the ones in the few videos demonstrating this feature.
Thanks for posting and sharing your concern (I'm lazy @ posting)
Come and see all issues I found in Nexus7, we'd better check if it's common !?
Recently I bought six Nexus7 for me and my pals.
All these tablets are inspected by me to make sure there is no bugs and bad pixels , and I found some issues randomly.
I am writing down these issues to discuss with you guys: is it commonly happened or accidental?
1,when charging with the cable, if your ear gets close to the back of nexus7, you can hear some currency noise?
2,knock the back slightly with your finger , then you may hear the sound like a loosened spring inside it , especially near the rear camera .
3,when launching the CAMERA and do the focusing, still there is noise from the rear camera , is it because there is some equipment working for focusing?
4, is it easy to get dust into the machine and the screen?!
IF you have similar issues, pls tell me !
thank u!

1. Might be a capacitor charging, it shouldn't be loud but it won't be a big deal
2. Only a 'hard' tap near the camera makes a sound, and it's just the sensor rattling. That's common on every device
3. No clue on this
4. If you have dust under the screen return it, it shouldn't happen at all
Cross posting to multiple forums is bad form.

I get the loose spring noise too
I get the doing noise on the back as well, I thought it was a loose screw or something. Now I know that's normal. I've never dropped my table either.
The noise while charging could be the Inductive charging coil (QI Wireless charging part), or a Capacitor, will check the Teardown pictures to find such capacitor...
I have spring sound too.. worst thing is that i have grounding problem with touch screen sometimes.
These are common things and not really issues, quit nit picking jerk wad, dam good tablet

issues
My only issue has been that touch screen non responsiveness when the tablet isn't being held, laying flat
Love my N7 though!! ???
I recognized some kind of colour gradients on the screen which is a little bit annoying. Is this a known issue?

Agree huh? This is just stupid
I've had different issues in earlier updates to the device.
Two main gripes were screen not responding to touch for whatever reason and random device crashes. But it's been good for the most part.

Okay, i can understand you. Sorry if it seems i would search after problems, but i can insure i'm highly satisfied with my Nexus 7 Don't get me wrong. In my opinion it is the best tablet in the 7 inch sector. I didn't express myself clear enough. You can imagine the issue under the term ''banding'' . So sometimes the edges of gradients are visible. Especially when the screen shows a dark gray/blue surface you're able to differ every single colour. This appears in pictures, games etc. I found a similar topic concerning the old nexus 7:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2111311
I know this trouble of my old smartphone which was only capable to show 65k colours, but it was software related and it appeared only in a small number of custom roms. One more time: I am really happy with this device, i was just wondering if this little issue could be solved easily by a fix. So excuse me for everything and sorry for my English

Here is an example. I took a photo while playing ''robocop''...Perhaps you know what i mean, the borders of the shades of gray are visible, but i can live with it. It doesn't appear very often...
If someone knows the reason or experienced similar things...please let me know
Has anyone noticed that their pictures have a blueish tint to them in low light shots? I think T-Mobile calibrated their lenses differently than AT&T G3's. The difference in picture color is very noticeable. Every TMO G3 I've tried looks exactly the same which is blueish. I had my TMO G3 exchanged because of it and the new one is exactly the same. The store models were the same also. I took the same picture with the front facing camera and you can see the difference there also. It's not as noticeable in bright light or outdoors. They look ok when taken there. I honestly think it's the way the lens or app is calibrated. I think the carriers mess with the software. I also noticed that the color of the Messaging app is lighter in the TMO G3 than the ATT G3. It's more of a pastel yellow instead of the brighter orange. I've also tested that on several different G3's of each version.
I attached one from the AT&T G3 and 2 from the TMO G3 (Front facing and rear):
P.S. I took the media_profile.xml, camera_profile.xml (I think that's what it's called), and media_codecs.xml from the ATT G3 and copied them to the TMO G3 and it didn't make a difference. Does anyone know if maybe this is an ISO or other setting that isn't set right? If so, what file in the system controls that? The LG camera doesn't have those manual options.

Interesting. I have noticed the blue tint on my G3 in low light with the rear camera. It takes a LOT of warmth adjustments to make it disappear, but it can be corrected. I didn't think there was a difference between carrier versions. Ours seems to be pretty bad at white balance adjustment.

I don't wanna use a different camera app. The laser focus only works with that. There must be a file to change white balance somewhere.

Do you use the flash in low light? I don't, and this is when I get white balance issues. Maybe that's the problem, the camera is calibrated to work with a flash, or, it's not properly calibrated for no flash in low light.

Mine is little yellowish too on low light.
It looks like your bathroom "Blueish" photo was shot under fluorescent lighting? Fluorescent bulbs put out almost all blue frequencies of light. See if it does the same thing outdoors under low natural light, or indoors using incandescent (old school bulb) lighting. Incandescent lighting is mostly red. This is one of the reasons I always use a real Canon camera if I want to take decent indoor shots. I have 4 Canon cameras. Does your camera app have adjustments to set the lighting type like a real camera does? I think even my Samdung S4 has settings for incandescent, fluorescent, and all that.

Well that stinks. If you can't adjust settings you are stuck, or need a new app. Or do what I did and use a camera for a camera, and a phone for a phone... I will concede using tablet as a phone, but a camera is still a camera if you want good photos all the time. I got my 8 year old son a Canon Elph 135 at Target for $99 and it's good to go indoors or outside..

I think it takes incredible outdoor pictures. Its the indoor low light ones that aren't that great.

Hi V30 fans.
I got my V30+ 2 weeks ago and love this phone.
However there were a few things nobody ever mentions in their review like the great vibration motor, the sharp edges at the bottom or the plastic feel of the screen.
That's why I made my own consumer review of the V30. You can watch it here:

Did you notice similar flaws with your V30 and how much did they bother you? Cheers

I guess the thing is that it was the one thing I was most worried about and, while I miss it, I don't miss it as much as I thought I would.
Alright, first thing I want to clear up is this:
Plastic OLED does NOT mean the display is actually plastic. You CANNOT tell by touching it. You can tell the difference by touching the S8 and the V30? Both are glass! LOL.. Also, AMOLED is what Samsung calls its OLED displays. There's no LG AMOLED panel. So its not "plastic AMOLED", its just p-OLED.
Now, for the most important part about this topic, all recent OLED panels that have any kind of flexibility/curve are ALL plastic substrate OLED panels. Including the AMOLED panels on the recent Samsung S and Note devices. LG calls it pOLED (stupid choice for a name tbh, it causes this exact sort of misunderstanding!). So, the "plastic" just refers to the plastic substrate layer instead of the glass substrate layer used on OLEDs prior to the flexible displays. It's under the glass and digitizer, its part of the actual display panel, so there's no way you can tell the difference by touching or looking at it.
I agree about the sharp edges on the USB port, SIM tray cutout and headphone jack, it's one of the first things I noticed. Not an issue really, but feels like someone forgot to grind the edges down.
The speaker is plenty loud for notifications or the occasional Youtube video for me. I NEVER play music on a phone speaker and if I'm going to watch something, I almost always use my earphones. So, personally, it's a non-issue as long as I don't miss notifications.
Good review overall mate, just make sure you do the necessary research (doesn't take more than a few mins) and avoid making assumptions. Cheers!
