Phone is really nice. I think the form factor is phenomenal, very light, thin. Great great camera, that thing can focus to almost any macro distance, and quick. I'm impressed with that aspect.
There is a big but, I couldn't get over the quality of the screen. The whites are not even close to white, and text has a shadow of red pixels.
I also thought it wasn't bright enough, it was in Auto and I felt it was very dim. I turned it all the way up and that setting matched the mid level of the EVO 4G.
So for that reason, I wouldn't order it online before going to see it in person if I were you. You may not like the screen.
Turn off auto-brightness. The screen is top-notch.
The unit you were looking at was either faulty, or your trolling. The screen on this device is one of the main selling points and (maybe its my opinion, maybe its fact) SAMOLED+ screens are some of the best, if not the best screens currently being produced.
Development how???
open up your camera app.. thats where you'll get the best idea of the screen. right now ur just looking at icons/etc. its taken me awhile to get used to it.. but after 2 days, its very sharp and crisp IMO.i'm coming from the Evo btw
I just played with it...screen is amazing. I thought the huge screen without a change in resolution would be bad but it was nicer then my ns4g screen..easily
Obviously your eyes are bad because you posted this in the wrong section.
I love the screen, top notch if you ask me.

sure is troll in here. Of all the things you might be able to criticize the screen is the last. Now you may prefer a more accurate desaturated pictures...that's a matter of preference. Typically I do too, I do video editing and if anything is going to sweeten the video it's going to be me--and I have to have accurate colors to know if I am doing that or not.
...but this is a smartphone, it's for browsing and playing games. Sure, the occasional phone call if you have time...saturate the hell out of it.
Whites are white. Quit your trolling. Only a faulty SAMOLED+ would look bad, even to trained eyes who would know how exaggerated the colors are.
i lol at this thread.....the screen..........trolllllllllll
i mean if you dont like it you dont like it, but no point of making a thread just to get flamed

trolllllllllll???
I gave the phone great feedback but I'm insisting that the screen has some faults, which i personally won't accept.
If you guys don't like to hear the bad don't read reviews.

I'll more time to look at it in the few days and check movies setting.

I didn't make a thread to get flamed.
I made it so people know that maybe they should check it out before ordering online. I'm glad I didn't. (especially since my EVO still works nice, if i didn't have a working phone that would be another matter)
I think if you change it that will make it a whole new screen
Wow, you guys are quick with the negative replies. My Epic Touch's screen has a slight blue tint on white backgrounds as well. Not as bad as my old Moment's was, but is very obvious when comparing to computer/laptop monitors, the Evo 3D's screen, and my coworker's iPhone 4.
Edit - Changing to movie mode doesn't help. To see the blue, pull up xda-developers on both the Epic Touch and your computer then hold the phone up to the monitor and compare the white background. It is much warmer on the computer screen and much colder/bluer on the phone.
My Epic had a blue tinted screen. The Photon was a bit more reddish. I don't know if it is the LED style screen or just Samsung parts, but my LED monitor has a blue tint to it also.
I think the bluish tint is normal for the manufacturer, unless its Really bad...
Perhaps more people can compare to other fresh phones, not necessarily phones at the store. Those things get tore up bad in some places, at least they do where I am.
Damned people dragging their kids in and letting the display phones babysit them..

Has anyone else noticed that the ET4G's screen isn't that great when it comes to the color white?
When compared to my Evo4G,
pictures and video - ET4G wins - main colors are "colors"
websites with white backgrounds, pdfs etc - Evo4G wins
To me it looks like the white just isn't as bright, kind of like how the Evo's black isn't as black as the ET4G's black... if that makes any sense.
Is it just my eyes or my device?
ps I love this thing, not trolling, just trying to figure out if this is just me
Par for the course on SAMOLED screens. On SAMOLED vs. LCD, blacks are better but whites are worse, generally speaking.
I only notice it with my brightness turned down. Looks better at dull brightness (of course)

That is kinda a thing, yes. Though I have seen some very abused (S)AMOLED(+) screens and a couple unlucky new ones where the white isn't white and just sucks. That's what you call a bad screen.
the "O" in SAMOLED+ stands for "organic" and over time these organics do degrade faster than your average LCD. They have a type of compensation built into the circuitry to accommodate for this, but, in the limited amount of time most people have a phone they shouldn't notice it...though there are also bad screens that deteriorate rapidly and some that even burn in.
So, yes, AMOLED technology isn't known for having the whitest whites but they should still be bright white, if not you may either have a bad screen or a fantastic eye....hope for a bad screen cuz you can replace that, but a very good eye for these things may drive you fncking crazy.
samoled screens are like that.... yellowish tint for whites but the blacks are BLACK.
Interesting, thanks for the replys everyone

The whites are fine. I believe your eyes are playing tricks on you. The blacks being so deep give it somewhat a darker tint to the whites, but in truth, it's there.
The whites are good on the SAMOLED+ screens. Just because they a brighter on another screen doesn't mean anything. Personally, super strong white would bug my eyes after a while.
I have a 'Mel Gibson' type "Conspiracy Theory" about this whole issue....
I think that Samsung, though they use exactly the same sourcecode as all the other manufacturers, might simply insert a piece of code that inverts the colors that they want, at a certain time.
For example:
Every other phone on the planet has no problem producing a vibrant "white" color....
Every other phone on the planet has a REAL problem producing a vibrant "black" color.
Samsung basically 'flip-flops" this, and I wonder if it's not just a well-placed piece of "inversion" code....
The results would be incredible blacks, and so-so whites...
Does anyone understand what I'm getting at, and care to comment?
<<This space for rent>>
Sht I thought that I was only one on xda that has yellow tint problem.
Its not just our Epics, tmobile gs2 and nexus prime have same problem.
And no-they are not supposed to be like that!
I looked at epic touch at sprint store and their epic was cool temperature white not like mine which is straight yellowish-orange.
I bought mine on amazon and im on my second return. My second phone was litle better but still orange-yellow compared to one at sprint store or my old Epic 1.
To sum this up:
Whoever has yellow tint on their epic touch or other galaxy s2 variants-they have defective phone. And its gonna get worse because in amoled screens blue colors deteriorate quicker than reast,so if your phone is yellowish now it will be red in a year or two, lol.
Its better to get a phone with bluish tint because overtime it will go away, while yellow will only get worse.
yeah u guys arent kidding... The blacks on this screen are effin black. lol.

What's the contrast ratio of our phones? I did a search but all that was said is that "it's high", didn't give exact numbers.
That being said is there a color calibration app, much like one's for tv's & pc monitors, that can be used on our smartphones?

Yeah there is an app in market check my other thread for the name.It want fix yellow tint issue but will make it better.
I dont understand why these newer screens just look worse in coloration to me. It seems like all these new phones have a blue or green tint to the screens. I went to look at a Epic 4g touch in the store today because I love the form factor but the screen doesnt look as good to me. Is this fixable with some sort of calibration? Or is the hue always there? I want a new phone but I dont know what to do! I like the screen of my old one more!
What say you XDA experts! Looking forward to your responses!
I think you're 100% right. I remember comparing my old G2x screen to the display unit at the sprint store and being quite turned off by it. It even took me a few weeks to get used to the "bluish" color of the Epic... however.. I do so love that deep black. Wow.
Aagghh! So there's just no way to fix it? Seems like the only neutral screen these days is the 4gs

Check out "Screen Adjuster" by Netman in the market. It let's you adjust the RGB values of the screen, as well as the contrast.
Watching videos on the GS2 is very hard on the eyes if there are a lot of dark scenes... Most of the detail gets lost because of the deep black, even with the brightness turned up to 100%. This app lets me crank up the contrast as well so I can actually see detail in dark scenes.
Essential free app, in my opinion. It can be set to autorun at system startup, or you can run it on demand (that's how I use it).
Any way someone could post comparison screen shots? Would be interested to see how neutral one can get it. Also does using that program cause more battery drain?

There's a setting to adjust the colors to make it less saturated. Lighter colors especially white will never be pure white, then again there is no true black on an LCD

I cant tell if im being picky or not. I ordered the Gn from the Playstore, GSM version, I got the phone and loved it, but there were a few bad pixels. I called Samsung, they sent me another one. I got the second phone, this one has a red hue on the entire right side of the screen, enough to be annoying on brighter pages/apps. So, i called Samsung again, and they sent me another. The 3rd one... well it also has a part of the screen i don't like. It seems normal throughout, but the bottom right of the screen is brighter than the rest. Its noticeable, but especially when the keyboard is open, the left side is dark grey, the right side is light grey.
Am i being picky? Should I call Samsung for a 4th? Could it get any better? Should I just settle? No phone is perfect. I cant wait to root the damn thing and start flashing, and calling it my own.
I love the phone so much, other than the screen problem.

call them again!!! also look for tiny black dots!
you can only see them when the screen is black and in a low light area.
so set a fully black photo in your gallery, open it and go to a low light area and look closely for any black dots you can see.

Honestly man you're gonna have problems whatever is going on with these screens. I have the same problem (not as bad) but I can notice slight color variation when the screen dims and when my keyboard is up. It is a known problem and I would just stick out to be quiet honest. I downloaded a pixel fixer (dont know the exact name of the app), but run the color fixer for 20 minutes multiple times and see if that does anything. When I notice a big difference I'm gonna get a new one, but honestly I wouldn't sweat it, even though that does sound pretty sh****.

This won't fix the issue. My screen has a heavy yellow tint and tons of black dots. I've just said **** it cause I have a feeling the screen is just made this way..
I just stay stock color as opposed the messing with the colors, because mixing them makes the tints different colors or multi colored which really drives me nuts.
I also have on my left side a blueish tint and right side red tint. Probably defective but whatever, doesn't sound like you can get a better screen so..

Guys and Mods,
We have numerous threads discussing blueshift on the Pixel XL 2. But we don't have a true consolidated thread for people that don't have it at all. So please post pics or let us know if your Pixel XL 2 has extremely minimal or no blueshift at all. This will help us determine if there's truly a large batch of these that don't have this issue.
I just received notice that my 2 XL has shipped and I determined that the build date is 10/23. Anyone have any experience with this particular build date? Hoping it's a good one...
Original Pixel 2 XL had extreme blue shift at small angles, i was infurated with it. Got a RMA, its still blue but its a reasonable shift that i can live with.

They ALL have blue tint, it is from the polarizing feature of the screen. It makes it easier to read in direct sunlight, and the trade off is that it looks a little blue at angles. Most fans have varying degrees of this.
People need to stop worrying about things that aren't broken, and don't matter... LOL

They are. I have seen the videos where they have two phones side by side and they move the camera back and forth... well, the one on the far side of whichever direction the camera is panning, will be at a greater angle than the one closest to the Sam era, hence it will have more tiny.
Mine has it, I don’t even notice it because I don’t use my phone from 4 feet away at a 55 degree angle. I pick it up and face it and use it,
If you can’t stand it, then get an iPhone and call it a day.

Can you explain what you mean by "They are." I am unclear if you mean the phones are all the same or if you mean people are recognizing that the phones are different. Or maybe something else.
I simply think that people are hyping this up to be more than it is...
I was all freaked out when I started reading this stuff, all the videos and news articles, etc... then I got my phone, and it’s fine, and I think 99.9% of the people who have one, think they look fine as well...

Really, the number seems small? The screen is pretty much all the current reviews are talking about. How many have gone back? I mean you seem to know how many Google has sold so maybe you know how many have gone back. The problem is I would guess the average person on the street doesn't even know what a pixel is. Personally, I have never seen another person with one (I do admit I also haven't looked for it). The only ones that I know that buy Pixel phones and previously nexus phones are the techies. Techies will notice the screen.
Look if I got a good screen I would have kept mine too, so the phone is very good. However, my screen was half blue and half white at the angle I held my phone which was about 5 degrees off axis. Even my wife said hell no to it, and that's saying something. My plan is to wait about a month and then rebuy it and go through the process again. The variability is an issue.
Also your earlier argument about the comparison videos aren't valid because the phones will be at different angles doesn't really hold water when most videos show the phones from both sides.

Your phone is pretty bad for shift angle like mine was. Is the blue in the picture similar to the color you see in real life? I have seen some say that capturing the blue color is hard and that it looks worse in person. I have also seen some say the exact opposite that it looks worse on camera. Wish I had tried taking pictures of mine as my blue in person was just a touch stronger.

I've said this before on here but yes the blue is hard to capture on camera and is much worse in person, very obnoxious.
Side note. My dad stopped by my house the other day, right after receiving it so I showed it off and he looked at it and said what's wrong with that, supposed to be blue? He's 64 couldn't care less about screen calibration, saturation etc but this was immediately noticeable to him and turned him off of wanting one, he liked it a lot and may get the smaller pixel 2 without the blue screen issues.
Ok, so honestly...I felt the same way!! I really thought that people were just "complaining" about this and the screen was how Google intended. I got so tired of hearing people complain, it gave me a headache!! Also, sorry cwalker for talking smack to you (if you see this, sorry ). However, there is definitely an insonsistentcy between some devices. Yes, there IS supposed to be some blue tint, no problem...but I did realize why I just couldn't fall in love with my Pixel XL until reviewing all of the comparison shots. I began to realize that there is a QC issue here. I am currently typing on my second order and there is a huge difference! My original phone, which has a manufacturing date of 10/8, suffers from this blue tint. It really doesn't bother me, but it is much more distinct than my replacement!!! Which was manufactured on 10/20. It is like night and day...just the overall quality of the screen. I mean like how white my new one is compared to the old...even dead on! Some of these displays either were not calibrated the same and/or contain a different process when applying the polarizer. Either way, stop denying the truth like I did for weeks!! There are phones not identical, which should not be considering this is Google we're talking about! Anyways, I am so happy with this phone now and it's insane. I love this frigging thing. Here is a picture of these two phones, but again, pictures do NO justice! It has to be experienced in person. LOL. But still, look at how each white is represented...there is a significant difference!
I just got my V30 plus to day and the first thing I noticed was that the screen looks so sh!tty compared to my V20's.
I'm not talking about colors, it's about the texture. The screen is so noisy and dirty just like there's a layer of paper in the back. If you look carefully the grain doesn't move when you scroll the pages up and down, it's just there. But when I bump the brightness up to 100% it's hardly noticeable.
I've looked at every V30 at the stores and they all have the same issue. I've asked many people on the internet. They all said their phones were normal. Seriously? How is that normal? Are you guys all blind? I think they just did not notice or look hard enough. They just did not know the issue was there.
My V30+'s screen is as good as my old S8+ (maybe better). It's also better than iPhone X. Can you take a photo of your screen when you see the grains?

The grains are just there but when I took the screenshot it didn't show, because it's a hardware problem. If scroll up and down on the white/grey background you will notice that (not on 100% brightness).

Do you have another phone or camera to take photo? Maybe V30 production batch in your location is not good.
I have idea what is the sand issue.. My V30+ screen is perfect. Please take a photo of the screen so we understand what is it.
return it...both of mine have PERFECT screens with ZERO of the reported issues.
Got my LG V30 this month and I see the same issue. The display is grainy, specially on white and green background

Yes, all LG POLED screens have some level of grain. It's not something new, few years older G Flex2 with much older OLED gen has it. People are not paying attention or don't know what to look for. If you compare side by side regular IPS and POLED from very close range you will definitely see it. It's like looking through screen protector.
Take a look at Play Store Green bar below "Google Play", move the page up and down slowly, lets say at around 30% brightness. Something is staying on the screen and not moving with the page.
It's hard to take it on photo.
Here is one picture: https://photos.app.goo.gl/mtFVtiSfzaz9hCkf1
but I doubt you'll see anything wrong, maybe if you can overlook lack of camera quality.
Same problem
I got my v30+ today and I'm facing the same problem. Not entirely sure how anyone else can't see the same. I'll be posting a picture of my disrupt soon. Please take a look and confirm if you guys/girls are having this problem or not. Thanks.

I'm new so XDA is not letting me share the URLs. sad luck.
Insert image is not working as well ?
Maybe try to modify URL with some spaces so it will not be considered as URL

personally I had two different V30 devices from different batch and distribution, both of them had more or less the same grain.

Note the grainy effect on blue brightness rocker.

My entire display has a uniform grainy effect, like it has a white paper as a background. My lg g6 has better display than this. Also the v30 looks quite warm(yellowish whites) when compared to G6 .
Yes, because LG G6 has IPS screen which is completely different tech.
To your picture, as expected such effect is pretty hard to capture by regular camera, but I see what are you saying, it's also visible on the white.
I think the best demostration could be to capture a closeup high quality video while scrolling page where is green/white, like Play store with low brightness.
Anyway I don't think you can do something about it, since it's not a bug, it's just stupid quality feature on every LG POLED not solved for a years .
Btw, I've checked pretty cheap mid range Samsung phones with AMOLED and screens there are without any noticeable grain, just like IPS. Perfectly clean solid colors.
A slightly yellowish white is also LG POLED feature as far as I know. It opposite to Samsung's blueish panels, however you can slightly correct it in the Display settings.
Thanks for all the info. Initially it seemed like I was the only one who had this issue with my v30. Knowing that it's gonna be the same with every other v30 I might as well kept this one. Thanks again.

I have 2 V30s, one has this issue ans the other is flawless
Sent from my LG-H932 using XDA Labs
i do not think that on the white is some grain issue, it might be the display itself and the camera he shoot whith is such a BAD one with alot of noise and oversharpen...
my display is perfect, i don't even have the light bleeding everyone on the internet say they have
you might very well have a defective one, or is not properly cleaned ot you have some protection film
I shot the image with a g6 . I do have light bleeding from the very edges. Now I'm surely going to return this unit and go for a replacement.
It should not be worse so you can try if you have that option.
What I know so far is, that if someone saw the grain in the screen, saw it on every other replacement. I don't know anyone who confirmed that this issue completely disappeared with an another unit.
Well, amazon did send a technician today. I showed him the light bleeding from the edges 1st, followed by the the grainy effect on screen. He told me that he would approve the unit for replacement/refund on the basis of the light bleeding. Surprisingly he wasn't bothered about the grainy effect at all as he said, "its nothing". I did opt for a refund instead of replacement as I'm afraid the replacement unit might have the same problem, and if its without the light bleeding edges then I'll be stuffed. Gonna keep my g6 until a lg smartphone comes which has a good dac, good display, good camera and no notch(hopefully lg v40).
