[Q] Magnetic Cover with non-stock based ROMs - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have HTC one m8 since 3 days, so I don't know a lot about this device yet and I have one (for now) question.
I want to use non-stock based ROM, however I also have this magnetic case, which normally wakes/locks my device when I open/close it.
So my question is: is it possible to have this feature on custom ROMs (like AOKP, etc.).
Maybe You guys know some app, that makes it possible?
I hope it's not meant for stock ROMs only.

[Q] NEW GUY... CM7 (or any new vanilla rom)

Hi all, I have just recently started using the custom roms available on this site and have a few questions. First of all I love the roms and they have a lot a cool new features and are snappy. the frustrations I am having though are...
1. the email app in cm7 (not picking on cm, just what I am currently trying right now) does not allow you to search your exchange inbox. this makes it really worthless...I could just go buy touchdown but when the Sense Roms have this built in you would think they could port it over to the vanilla roms.
2. the phone app does not allow you to search/dial directly from he dial pad (suuuucks), is there a phone app that you can install that actually is functional?
3. bluetooth on any of these vanilla roms never works. if I use a sense based rom the bluetooth will work fine.
I am new to custom Roms and such so if you can give me some direction I would appreciate it.

[Q] Which custom rom to install

Hi,
First of all i would like to congratulate everyone for carrying out such a great forum... have gone through many threads and learned a lot about android and wildfire capabilities
I am now looking forward to install a custom rom. However, I am confused about which of these two custom roms to install
--- 1 is wildpuzzle with transparent lock screens
--- 2 is cyanogen mod 7.0.3 or anyone having any other better option
I dont know the pros and cons of these roms and what different they have ( only that wildpuzzle has htc sense and is very similar to stock rom)
my needs:-
-good signal strength ( i use airtel)
-fast and should be smooth
- not have bugs
- Signal strength on both will be same. It depends on the Radio really, not the ROM.
- Both are fast and smooth for their respective builds.
- Cyanogenmod will have comparatively more bugs, because it is a scratch GB build from stock, and, WildPuzzle is basically a modified Stock ROM with many additional features. But, Cyanogenmod offers more features than Sense ROMs, and you have the advantage of the latest Android build (2.3.4 ATM)
In the end, it really boils down to whether you want Sense or not. Personally, I would advice you to try out Cyanogenmod, because, really, it has infused new life (for me, atleast) in the Wildfire, which I would never have thought possible with Sense.
One Question
What is HTC Sense? What extra does it do to wildfire....
It's their custom interface, like Samsung's TouchWiz. Basically, all you "see" on the stock ROM is HTC Sense - It is like an additional layer over Stock Android.
Extra's it does:
- Allows HTC Apps to run, like Camera, Contacts, Messaging, FM Radio etc
- Allows HTC Widgets
- "Looks" different than Stock Android
Disadvantages
- Potentially slower on the Wildfire, given its weak specs
- No JIT
- This is based on opinion - but, it doesn't provide the Stock Android experience.

[Q] Brief summation of non-TW ROMs vs stock based?

As there is a dual-boot option in the works http://www.modaco.com/topic/364246-modacoswitch-pre-release-discussion-topic/ for the S4, the option to run a non-TW ROM is becoming a real possibility for those of us who don't want to give up TW features like WiFi calling. (This one is crucial for me, since I often am places with WiFi, but no cell signal.) However, with dual-boot capabilities, running an AOSP/GE/CM/etc. ROM for daily use, while having a TW ROM to boot to for WiFi calling opens up a whole flood of possible ROMs to choose from. Is there any guide or input regarding the general strengths/features of the alternate ROM groups? Not specific ROMs, but more of "why to use CM", "advantages of AOSP", etc., in larger terms. Thanks!

[Q] Best ROM

Hi there,
for a long time I used the Stock based ROM ExistenZ Ultra until it did not work anymore. Back then I tried several custom ROMs but most of them I did not like for several reasons. I went back recovering the original stock ROM, that was more than half a year ago.
Since I use my phone mainly for basic stuff the Stock ROM is enough for me. But some things (especially the bloatware) annoy me. Now on my spring break I want to try a new Custom ROM. Since I did not follow the Custom ROM Development for a while I have no clue which ROM would fit my needs the best.
Therefore I seek a ROM which is best for me and best for my needs:
What it should have:
-Best performance/speed
-Best battery life
-Most improved Camera possible
-At least bloatware as possible
What would be cool too:
-Dark theme
-Pre installed flashlight wich can be activated on the notification bar (I mean those quick settings where I can active Wi-Fi, Sound etc.)
I am really used to the Stock ROM and I really like it. But if there is a other ROM which is so much better I would also use a ROM which is not stack based.
Thank you very much.

You could wait for this one to release.
Unfortunately it still is not released. Any other suggestions?

Now that I'm rooted, what are my tethering options?

Hi guys,
I'm rooted and would like to enable tethering. I know about enabling Hotspot if you have your MSL. Are there any other ways as I don't have my MSL?
Now that I'm rooted are there any apps that can give me MSL number? The app I've used only seems to work for HTC devices.
best way is install custom rom..
sac23 note 5 port and hybrid 3.0 is best rom for me

Right now I'm running the 100% Stock ROM that doesn't have Knox and Itson. Reason why I decided to stick to Stock is because I really don't want to deal with the quirks and issues that custom ROMS bring. Plus there are sooooo many ROMs in the development section it's tough to chose one when you're a newbie.
Any particular reason why you chose that ROM over others? And do you have any issues whatsoever with it?
Anyone have a way of getting my MSL number myself, now that I'm rooted, without the need of having to contact provider?
Roms should list it that the hotspot is activated for use. CM12.1 has it. But im haveyingbattery drain issues lately with that.. So Im also looking for a new stable custom rom
I definitely want to stay away from custom ROMS. Too buggy, specifically AOSP ROMS. That's all i used before and so I'm very familiar with all their quirks and mishaps.
If i can find a custom ROM (or if you can recommend one) that has everything working (like stock ROMS do ) I'll jump ship immediately. Until then, I'll take stock and stability day.

Aosp are not buggy. Cyanogen is really good. I'm running nightlies.
Definitely Hybrid. Very close to stock with minor changes, including addition of hotspot. Very stable, really no issues. Just make sure you chose Hybrid and not the Hybrid X version which is more modded. They're both in the same thread in Android Development
Cyanogen mod has no bugs. Just no finger print support but that should be coming soon specially with cm13 coming down the pipe. The night builds are great you just have to activate your network within the ROM when you first start. But my phone doesn't crash no force closes or anything. Battery isn't all that bad... I honestly think I was having calibration issues with my zero lemon .
