I recently updated to 4.4.2 and rooted it as instructed in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal.../rom-att-i317-ucucne5-mj4-stock-odex-t2802189. Ever since, MMS messages either hang forever or fail both with wifi on or off. I noticed this originally happening in Handcent, but have since uninstalled that and continue to have the same problem with the stock messenger. I have received MMS ok, but cannot send any. Any ideas?

Try another messaging app from the Play Store that worked for me
Sent from my SGH-I317 using XDA Free mobile app
Thank you
Thank you both for your replies. Sorry I didn't respond sooner, but I figured the problem out. I had installed adblock plus which messed up the network settings. I uninstalled that and went with AdAway instead which edits the host files versus rerouting the data. Everything is kosher again.

this person seems to be having the same issue as me but i can't exactly figure out what that did here if someone can help me
Similar issue here with my GSM Galaxy Nexus on AT&T.....
Seems the problem started earlier today
I can make and receive calls with no issue, I can receive texts but I cannot send texts.
Tried sim in my old iPhone 4S, texts send no problem, even with imessage turned off so it forces to send as SMS.
Tried factory 4.0.1 that shipped with my phone and also tried 4.0.2 and 4.0.4
like i said, I can receive texts no problem.
I was able to send texts prior with no issue.
multiple factory resets and resetting APN's to default.
AT&T rep couldn't help so they have a case open to resolve...
This is driving me nuts!
UPDATE: I can send MMS with no problems at all.
UPDATE 2: I tried the steps listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...6#post24329026 to make sure the SMSC was listed correctly, but i am still unable to send SMS...
UPDATE 3: IT'S WORKING FINALLY!!! I found a list of SMSC numbers here: http://smsclist.com/downloads/default.txt and used the online PDU encoder decoder here: http://www.twit88.com/home/utility/s...-encode-decode to get the number needed to enter into my phone. SMS are sending now

Wow what a hassle! I'm glad you got it working
I would suggest backing up your APN settings to a file with titanium backup or whatever!

that wasn't me getting it working, that was me asking how the heck some other guy got it working. I'm not sure what happened but i took out my sim, installed a different hang rom which had horrible connection but my texting worked, i decided the poor connection was unbearable and restored to the one with the texting not working, and for some reason it was working this time, not sure if it was me removing my sim or what but this time it automatically had the correct smsc stored.
Now... a new issue. i came from an iPhone4s and forgot to turn off iMessage, this causes iPhone uses to have their texts sent to me incorrectly through only iMessage and not my phone number. i put my sim back into the iPhone and and turned off iMessage which cured the texting but mms is still having issues. this is one of the reasons i always end up going back to the iPhone. the customizability of android is fun and allows for a lot of play but you always run into problems you spend hours trying to mend. also having issues with gmail, i have to manually refresh it to get my emails
MMS not working on any rom I flash!
Edit: I was pulling all types of tricks out of my sleeve trying to figure out what the issue was, called tech support and they said they were having some tower issues in my area.:banghead: I was like why didn't I call them 1st? Anyways its back up again. What a waist of 5hrs.

Have you checked to be sure that your apn settings are in there?

Yes there in there.

Same thing happened to me. MMS was working last night, suddently today they aren't. Flashed 2 different roms and restored back to stock, still not working. Tried toggling APN settings, no luck. Tried uninstalling Handcent and using stock messenger, no go. I spent 1 hour with AT&T support online checking my IMEI information, SIM card, etc.
They told me I'm not the only one to have this problem, so I'm wondering if this is a network-related issue.

Nope. Even using the stock MMS app it still won't send or receive MMS. SMS sends fine. Data is fine. MMS is broken.
I've tried 5 different nandriods: DietICS, AOKP, CM10, Blazer, Stock and they all have the same results.
Can someone with working MMS provide their APN so I can try to change that back?

see gaveup info, that is what my MMS APN info shows too
Oddly enough, everything JUST started to work again for me.
No reboot, nothing. Just sent MMS without issues.
WTF.
Ok, had my wife who has an iPhone test mine out.
She took an existing pic and sent it with words in the text field as well, I didn't get it.
She took a new photo, no words I got it.
She sent an existing pic w/ no words and I got it.
Tried again with words and nothing.
Having the same issue also today.
Mine just came back. Wish I had backed up all my messages before screwing around with restoring backups and reflashing ROMs.

White Hot! GS3.
Hello All,
Suddenly yesterday around noon my phone suddenly stopped receiving MMS messages.
However, I am able to send MMS, and Send/Receive SMS.
I've used 2 different APNs (both of which worked previously): phone & pta.
Any insight would be helpful, AT&T says I need a new simcard.
Are you using an Ad blocker? These have been known to block MMS as well.

Disabled AdAway. Still nothing
Textra said it was an issue with my APN settings, but they're correct.

I'd suggest uninstalling AdAway then rebooting the phone, as long as you make a backup of the app you can restore it.
If that doesn't work I'd suggest making a rom backup then flashing a new rom to see if it works.
hello. i know this question has been asked numerous times but I've had no lucked getting this resolved . I've rooted my g3 wit towleroot. mms was working fine and then would stop. i would receive a picture but it would not download. found out i had to delete my iPhone from the apple support site. everything was fine. its been about a 3 weeks since it got resolved but now my mms and group messaging is working inconsistently. i tried to send a pic to myself and it doesn't send. i used the stock mms app and chomp sms. no go. it was working fine yesterday and then all of a sudden it stopped working. through chomp sms it states to check my pan settings. i tried changing my port from 80 to 8080 and nothing. i don't think i have any adblocks installed unless it came with towleroot. but i have not dl any adblock apps. can anyone help me on this. this is very frustrating for me. I'm assuming it has to do root because my wife has no issues with her mms but she is not rooted. any help is greatly appreciated. i was using an iPhone 5 previously and made sure my iMessage was off
I've had my G3 awhile now and have always had problems with mms. Had an hour long talk with a bell tech not to long ago.. Got it to work.. (data would not work.. No Internet or anything). I was using textra at the time, now the only messaging app that works for me is textra. Even the stock app will not send mms nor will any others but the I have Internet. So that part works it just will not download or send any mms with any message app other then textra.
I'm baffled, I've tried everything I can think of and have read about. I've been through the APN settings about 3 times now.. Everything is correct there..not what what to do now.
This is on bell network with the International version (D855)
