Help! Getting..."Safe to remove sd card"

So, after reading the latest update allowing users to use 64gb sdxc in their note 10.1, I tried it and every time I put it into the note I get a message that says "Preparing sd card" and then immediately after "Safe to remove sd card"...or something to that effect.
- I used the rooted method [Method 1 - Root injection via ODIN stock firmware] here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831152
-- I have the 8013.
-- Immediately after I checked and message said no system update available.
- I purchased SanDisk 64gb off Amazon and can see it fine using PC.
- I put another sd card from my wife's tab and it read it no problem.
I don't want to reformat it to FAT b/c I like the option of having larger file size capability.
Is there a way to tell I have the latest system update on my note?
Thoughts?

That card is fine - I have the same card in my Note 10.1.
If you do not have the OTA update to format the card then you will need to format it in an older phone or tablet (say running Gingerbread). You can also format it on a Windows 7 machine with the right formating program.
Either way once it is formatted to exFAT it should work fine.
I got my card before the OTA and formatted it in my old Gingerbread Captivate. Worked fine.
Then I took it and formatted it on a Windows 7 PC for exFAT. Worked fine.
Then when the OTA came out I upgraded and it allowed me to format it in my Note 10.1. That worked fine too.
So you just need to get formatted to exFAT.

OK.
How do I get the OTA update? I went to settings, about and check for system updates: none found. Any way to find out if I have the most recent update? I'm running 4.0.4
I did a quick format to exFAT through PC and still no joy...
What should the allocation unit size be?
OK. I did full format on pc but still didn't work. So, stuck it in my razr, said card was damaged, erased and formatted it. Put it in tablet and worked. To be safe, i Reformatted it in tablet...
I guess it's gtg...

Note2 not reading exFAT cards

I am on stock rom. Unmodified and unrooted. My note2 is brand new, not even month old and I have updated it to latest firmware. I recently bought a 32GB Sandisk Ultra mmc. It was originally Fat32. I wanted to try if a my Note would read an exFAT card, so I formatted a very old 256MB mmc into exFAT using windows. Windows reads it but my Note shows an error. How do I fix that?
Sent from my GT-S6102
Get along. .. note 2 doesn't detect ex fat or ntfs... unless you install some special kernels... (need root and cwm)
handwritten from my note 2 (N7100)

Might be something wrong with that card. I just got a new Sandisk 64GB Class 10 card already formatted with exFat32 and it reads and writes to it with no problem. Try formatting the card under Menu, Storage.

Wrong. Stock kernal detects, reads, and writes from exfat just fine. Some other kernels (eg: neak) dont support exfat.
My 64gb exfat formatted card works normally in my note II.
any idea what's the problem and how to fix it?

Sorry. . Got confused. ..Yes stock firmware on note 2 detects exfat and not ntfs

A friend has problems with a SanDisk Ultra 200GB on Galaxy S 4 Mini with stock ROM.. The micro SD card is not recognized. Is that perhaps a formatting issue? Are your cards formatted as FAT32 or exFAT?

exFAT. Recently I have also used a 256 GB Samsung card without issue (filled more than 50% with data). I have been using CyanogenMod and Lineage ROM for a long time now so I am not sure if Stock ROM could be an issue.

Not possible on any S4 Mini because the maximum allowed size is 64 GB.

That seems to answer one question it is not the hardware that is the limitation but rather the version of Android software running in Galaxy S4 phone. I could not get Samsung to answer this question directly. Samsung official position is 64GB is the maximum.
I am going to test 128GB micro SD in S4 standard ROM (AOS 5.0.1) try and fill it with test data and see what happens. From your comment it looks like it would be best for me to follow your example and install CyanogenMod or Lineage custom ROM to use a 128GB micro SD in the S4 (that will be my next test).
It is hard to know if I am dependant on any Samsung features as some are not obvious if all you have ever used is Samsung Android. I moved to Quickpic app for local photo management but have read Samsung apps are better for picture taking do you know anything about that?
Can you install apps to load from micro SD card using exFat on CyanogenMod or Lineage ROM in Galaxy S4?
Are there any features you "lost" moving to 3rd party ROM on the Galaxy phone that you really missed?
I have used larger than 64 GB micro SD without issues even with stock Android 4.2 on the S4 Mini. My feeling is that the 64 GB limit is somehow arbitrary and originates from the time where nothing bigger than 64 GB was available. The theoretical limit should be 2 TB.
I have been using Samsung Apps as well as Quickpic and both are alright, maybe depending on personal priorities. Quickpic though is only for organizing pictures, not shooting them AFAIK.

Yes, but the amount of internal memory you are saving is only very small as a lot of data will still be saved in internal. You could use the SD card als adopted storage though, meaning you will have huge internal memory then. The downsides are that the memory becomes much slower than before and you cannot take out the SD card anymore.

No.
For testing I tried to insert a 128GB uSD and my S4 mini VE (GT-i9195i) sees it perfectly. Both by checking the memory setting menu inside the phone and on the PC by connecting it to USB.
microSD - Samsung EVO (Yellow) 128GB [100MB read - 100MB write].
GT-i9195i VE - Android Kit Kat 4.4.4, TWRP 3.3.1-0, SuperSU Pro V2.82
With Lineage 18.1 or later I can confirm 512GB microSD works without problems.

Foldersync on Tab S3

New SM-T820 owner here, looking for advice especially from other Tacit Foldersync users.
I'm in need to sync files from my Synology NAS to the microSD card inserted (Samsung EVO Plus Micro SDXC 128GB Class 10 U3).
I normally use SMB on port 139 on my other devices. For example my Note 4 which has a Samsung MicroSDXC 128GB EVO Plus Class 10 U1 card.
I'm on Build NRD90M T820XXU1AQI2 (Android 7)
Tacit Foldersync version is Folderync PRO v2.9.12
I have set permissions within Foldersync on the root of my external SD card.
Problem is that the SMB (and even FTP/SSH) protocol fail to transfer files beyond number 10751.
My SD-card was preformatted ex-FAT, reformatted in device and after failing sync again, formatted on Windows 10 as ex-FAT.
I had this problem many times before when installing foldersync on a new device and the solution was (don't remember for sure -either rooting or) formatting ex-FAT.
So, here ex-FAT is not the solution.
If it were permissions on the SD card it would not transfer a single file. The number 10751 is significant. In the past it also stopped after 10751 files.
Foldersync works fine on my Note 4, which is rooted Android 6.0.1 N910F XXS1DQI5.
My SM-T820 is not rooted.
Is there anyone who might know what's going on ? Support on this app is rather non existing.
It's such a wonderful app, I really can only recommend it, but I'm stuck now and I fear the only difference except build and android version is the fact that one is a rooted device and the Tab S3 isn't. But even then, I did not instruct my Note 4 to use root permissions on the SDcard within the settings of Foldersync. So the config within Foldersync is 100% identical.
Could it be U3 vs U1 ? The rooting ?
Another thing worth mentioning is that I can set permissions on the SD-card, but I cannot revoke the permissions from the SD card.
Revoking permissions gives me following error : It then says that "Make sure Documents provider is available".
