I am on stock rom. Unmodified and unrooted. My note2 is brand new, not even month old and I have updated it to latest firmware. I recently bought a 32GB Sandisk Ultra mmc. It was originally Fat32. I wanted to try if a my Note would read an exFAT card, so I formatted a very old 256MB mmc into exFAT using windows. Windows reads it but my Note shows an error. How do I fix that?

Get along. .. note 2 doesn't detect ex fat or ntfs... unless you install some special kernels... (need root and cwm)

Might be something wrong with that card. I just got a new Sandisk 64GB Class 10 card already formatted with exFat32 and it reads and writes to it with no problem. Try formatting the card under Menu, Storage.

Wrong. Stock kernal detects, reads, and writes from exfat just fine. Some other kernels (eg: neak) dont support exfat.
My 64gb exfat formatted card works normally in my note II.
any idea what's the problem and how to fix it?

Sorry. . Got confused. ..Yes stock firmware on note 2 detects exfat and not ntfs

yep, and with the new Note Update, it works flawlessly , make sur eto reformat it before hand.
Likewise I am using a SanDisk 64 GB SDXC - no problems after the update and formatting.
So the new update will format it correctly?

Yes, I even took mine out and re-formatted it to make sure.
The update definitely fixed that.

I format my 64GB sdcard with this software 'MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition' and it works.
Yep, it even works without the update if you format it first. Plugged it into my Mac, used Disk Utility to format the card as FAT, then plugged it in. Works great!

Well, the point was that it was Formated by the tablet, which in turn does exFat, not sure if FAT, and ExFat is different, but exFat allows files bigger than 4.7GB
I tried using my 32GB ADATA micro SD formatted to exFAT before the update came out, and the tablet wouldn't take it until I formatted to NTFS. Confirmed exFAT compatibility after update?
Yes, mine works now. But I had to format it in my n7000 first.

exFAT is the format most micro-sd's are sold with. The exFAT format sofar didn't work with official Samsung bootroms, that's why you always needed to reformat. Now it seems Samsung has built exFAT support into the latest update, so you can use a fresh micro-sd straight out of the box.
edit: updated info.
Ok, so it still only reads FAT? Too bad... I would like to be able to put a 6Gb mkv-movie on the card but I guess that's not possible, right?

Yes, the FAT file system only allows up to 4gb files.
You'll wanna format your card to exFAT which allows much larger file sizes.

Can Galaxy Note 10.1 read exFAT formatted cards?
Brgds... /Tubgirl
Ummmm, the posts above indicate they can after the recently released update.
I've yet to see written down in plain english that it can read exFAT. I've only read that it can format 64Gb cards (which might just as well be in regular FAT just like the 5.3" Note).

Yes, if you format the SDXC card in the Note 10.1 - it WILL be formatted to exFAT.
I have done it and posted it here before. When removed and read on a Windows 7 PC it reads as exFAT.

And what if you don't have the Note Update? My first Note got the update, but I didn't like the changes in S-Note. I ended up returning that one for a problem with power button and got a new one (it's nice having a Frys right down the street that stocks 32GB grey ones!). My new one does not have the Update and when I checked for updates, it did not find it. I have read posts that implied that the Update was pulled - which is just as well, since I didn't like some of the updates.
So, anyway, for those of that don't have the Update and don't want to install it anyway, is there a way to get a 64GB card to work that will allow files >4GB and will work in a Note that doesn't have the Update?
Hi,
I bought a trancend 32gb microsd SDHC class4 card for the note about 10 days back..Worked fine for 2 days then suddenly stopped working...Stopped working means does not get detected in the phone or on the laptop (there is no option for mount/unmount on the phone)..Ive tried my older 8gb card on my phone and that works fine..Ive also tried the screwed up card on my blackberry bold and it doesnt detect there as well..
Well, i thought its the card's fault and ordered a replacement...
They sent one and same story again!! worked for 2 days and same thing again
Now i dont know if its the card's problem or my phone's..Anybody with any idea??
PS - i am rooted and on criskelo v11.2 with speedmod 3-13 if it matters...also both times i had about 15gb of data in the card...
ive also tried blowing and cleaning the contacts..also tried inserting a piece of paper in the slot to cancel out loose contacts but nothing works
Thanks..
What was the file system on the card?

Very strange problem , but I am facing the same problem with a Trancend 32 GB card replaced twice and worked only for 1 day and then stopped recognising , not sure if it makes a diff the Mobo was replaced by Service center about 4 months back ,, may be a mobo fault? but my 16GB card just works fine
same thing happened to me also ..... i replaced a new 32g card let me see if it works fine or i will never buy another 32gb trancend card
since both r indians ill talk in tat context
flipkart now says they wont replace anymore and will refund the amount as credit! He also adviced that sandisk works better on the note for this capacity..i dont know wat logic he had! please do update if u find a solution/alternate
@anirudh - which company is that 16gb from? maybe ill have to make do with 16gb since 32 doesnt work
32Gb micro SDHC class 4 by Transcend, not recognised by GT N7000
Hi All,
I'm using a GT N7000 on Official 4.1.2 XXLT5 (recently updated). I'm using a Transcend microsd 32gb class 4 for about a year now with this note. But I'm facing this issue of 'blank SD' and 'unable to format' from 2-3 months now after I updated to one of the official OS upgrade.
I've tried reverting back to all the earlier versions of Android where it worked fine, but there seems to be no change. I can read the card using an external card reader in my laptop, but not through the phone.
I've tried formatting it to all the possible types (NTFS, exFAT, FAT32), nothing seems to work, for the note. I can read it on PC though.
I tried reading the same card in another device, but now it's not readable in that as well. Any suggestion/solution, much appreciated.
Thanks

Boot into recovery mode and go to mounts and storage. From there format the external memory card (format /sdcard). Alternatively you could try with a format from the "storage" in settings.
Use the card reader with ur pc. Go to disk management and format the card FAT32. Before formating, delete the partition/partitions on ur card. U should get unallocated space. Create partition and it should work. The big problem is that u may see some problems between note and 32gb card. The phone it may restart and u should go to recovery/download mode to restart it... good luck.

Hi dcargirisc,
I can assure you 100% that this will work with your Galaxy Note 1 (N7000). You will have to format it in the phone and after that it will be recognized. Regarding the exfat I don't think that with the stock Kernel you will get it working, but I might be wrong about that.
To sum up, you will have it formatted as fat32 and it will work flawlessly. I have tried the speed test application and I am getting 10.6 Write mb/s and 16Mb/s read speeds, on SweetROM v3, which is what I was expecting.
Good luck.
GOoooooood New ! Thank i am going to get one !

anyone have speed test for that ?

I bought mine 64G SD card in Oz for $90 delivered and formated to exFat but was not recgnised by the phone with LS7 ROM. Could not accept NTFS so eventually I did Fat32 which works.

Ive heard that these 64gb microsdxc cards can be damaged by computer card readers. I need to copy backed up files to it. Does anyone know of a card reader that is confirmed safe to use with these cards? Thx

Heard so too, took the risk an used the built in card reader (laptop) to read/write/then formatting it to FAT32 (saved me lots of headaches with kernels and cwm), and finally partitonning it to use Link2SD.
No problems so far

I want to format my 64 GB microSD card to exFat so that I can put video files that are bigger than 4 GB in the microSD card. However, I want to know if the Note 3 is able to recognize the exFat microSD card. I want to use BSPlayer to play the 5 GB video file in the exFat microSD card.
I am able to do this with my Note 2. However, my Note 2 is rooted, and is running Jedi X19 Rom.
Yes, it will read exfat out of a box. That's what I have in my note 3 right now

How come when you root the note it no longer read the exfat microsd card? I thought rooting allows more function , not limit it.

I tried my 64gb sandisk sdcard on my tablet. I can enter the main directory but when enter any folder there wasn't anything in folder.
Only show folder Does not show the contents of the folder.
How can I fix that?
For some reason the 64gb memory cards don't work too well on the tablets. I have a SanDisk ultra class 10 64gb and it always unmounts. I had to out a 32gb and (knock on wood) nothing has gone wrong.
I used a 64gb sanDisk card for a year with no problems. I have a 128 gb card in now and it works fine also. Are you rooted and running a custom Rom? Also have you tried to put card into a computer to see if it works there? You know when kit Kat came out they implemented restrictions on using a SD card and it doesn't work right . There are apps that fix the problem like root folder mount but you have to be rooted.

it could be bad. Did you buy from Internet or store? I did have 64 gb one and it went bad. When you buy cheap from Internet they tend to be bootleg ones in official packing in. I couldn't write to it anymore and couldn't delete anything from it. I ended up going to best buy and bought a new one then returned the broke one. Its kinda weird that it works in one tablet but not the other. Just outta curiosity did you try to install root folder mount? If not try to install that and let it do its thing then see if it still doesn't work.
