When I am typing in the messaging application, I find that many of my key presses are ignored, seeming as though I am not able to spell or use proper punctiation, even though I have actually tapped the correct keys.
My messages might look like the following:
"Thaks fo your message. I was nt able to take the call at th time buI will be avaiable after 6pm. Thanks again!"
This is really annoying. It ONLY happens in the messaging application. I can type an entire document in Word without a single problem but I correct numerous mistakes in emails and text messages in order to avoid looking like a moron to recipients of my messages.
Is there anything I can do to correct this problem? I am using the Black Edition ROM right now and thought that this version fixed the problem. I also Experienced it with the LVSW versions and the other before that. I did not experience it in WM5 at all...

I have the exact error with all the WM6 roms, very very frustrating
I too sometimes get this problem, normally at the start of a text if I start typing quickly. it doesn't happen all the time tho only occasionally. using the lvsw rom at the moment but also had it with the SA WM5 rom
I've got this problem too, but in WM5.
same here on WMXL 0.2
I have noticed this on other WM5 devices but never on the Hermes until now. Is there something that changed in the messaging application that can be changed back to the way it was in WM5...hopefully via a registry edit?

I had this problem but it went away after I selected the option to have word completion only select words after typing six letters. If you have it set to do it after pressing the space bar it seems to cause a delay in typing the text after a key press.
I agree with nmonger, I have alleviated the problem by setting the autocomplete to only suggest after 3 letters (it was set to "a space" before). Also I have made it only suggest 2 words (it was set to 4).
I had this from day 1, it`s just not designed to work that fast...
i hope it`s a driver problem and not keyboard hardware problem.

So far this seems to have solved my problem. Thanks!
I knew it had something to do with the word completion. I set it to suggest 1 word but it keeps suggesting four. I just changed it to after 3 letters and solved my problem. Thank you for pointing that out. Now i don't look drunk when messaging at 11am!
Thank the man above someone else is having this issue as well....trying the word completion trick and seeing what happens.
worked for me - great solutions thanks
BINGO! an obvious solution in hindsight... thanks
cheers for that guys, it was one of those things that had bugged me for a while but not enough for me to look for a fix untill someone else mentioned it.

Worked for me
I was just thinking about how often I had this issue today. I was SURE I was pressing all the keys. I tried turning word completion off and that didn't seem to change anything (strange). I'll give changing it to 6 a try, that makes sense.
I have noticed this problem on the Dash, Blackjack, Universal, and a few other Windows Mobile devices...all WM 5 and newer. This is the first time I have seen a solution. I don't think this worked on any of those devices and that is why I posted. I thought there was going to be a more complicated fix on this phone too!
What really stuns me is the lack of complaining about the skipping issue on other devices, such as those that I mentioned, as I am sure I am not the only one who sees this happening on multiple devices.
I thought it was all down to me being lazy, a bad speller and having thumbs too big for the small keyboard.
Trying the solution and all seems well so far.
thanks a lot, it's working
After updating to WM6 (firstly xda 0.1) then to Vanilla I noticed that when typing on a keyboard I got eg. "tu" when typing "t" or "u"; the same situation with "gj" when typing "g" or "j". I also got the problem of getting wrong symbols (eg. "**" instead of 8). I've got 2 T-Mobile UK version (HERM300) devices, one updated tens of times and the other one oneuntouched. After checking the registry I can say that both are the same as far as know keyboard registry fixes are concerned.
Is it a hardware thing or something I could fix. I searched over the forum, but others had different keyboard issues with their devices.
you could try going into the input options and toggling the predictive text to not kick in till after 4 words have been typed or just disable it. this may be the problem, its set to try right away by default and I see all kinds of wierd errors when it is set like this.
or you could try to go on a vigirous finger diet and excersise routine with the hope that your fingers shrink in size.
or you could use a hip top, the hiptop 2 has the best keyboard IMHO though the herald/kaiser is very nice as well
Unfortunately turning off all the predictive text options doesn't help. I start thinking that this is some kind of hardware issue as everything in the registry is as it is supposed to be. I just wonder how it could happen as it was working flawlessly (even under WM6) and suddently started working weirdly.

I have not come across this problem, this might not work and I doubt it will! but try this keyboard fix cab file for the 8225, you can always remove it with remove programmes if it is a no go.

I was experiencing the same problem and this cab file worked for me. Thanks. Just don't forget to power cycle the device once the cab is installed.
I finally had a ROM and config I was really happy with, and as of this morning the onscreen keyboard seems locked in a numeric mode. There seems to be no way to get it back to qwerty. I tried switching languages and keyboards and everything I can think of. My onscreen keyboard is gone. It's just numeric and useless. What obvious thing am I missing? This happened once before when it locked itself in the web keyboard (no spacebar) but that went away after a reboot. This time it's locked. I tried a LOT before posting here.
EDIT: I don't seem to be able to delete this message, but maybe it'll be handy in the search for others looking. I searched on THIS forum before I posted, but then I was smart and searched ALL forums. I feel stupid for not thinking of that sooner. Sorry sysadmins. My bad.
I re-installed my keyboard software that uses the old style auto-correction (not T9) and it solved it.
Hi. i seem to have a bug on the onscreen keyboard. basicaly, whenever i press a key no animation is applied as if pressing a real key on a keyboard ie see the specific key pressed down.
It doesnt seem to work no matter what screen or app i am running. However, it does operate fine when i do the keyboard tutorial?
anyone having issues with this?
edit: seems to work fine when i switch the keyboard into numeracy mode
Another edit: fixed the issue by changing the keyboard layout completeley via the settings and back to full qwerty .
Not really linked to your problem, but I noticed a strange behaviour when setting up Copilot on my Desire today. Basically no matter what i typed, it automatically retyped some letters back again. Trying backspace too added the last letter again and then subsequently deleted it. I wanted to type say [email protected] and it would type [email protected]@y... It reminded me of similar keyboard issues on the Nexus One. Thankfully I did not notice the same issue when i typed in landscape mode.

I had exactly the same problem, didn't think of trying it in Landscape mode mind you, but it was only on the user name field and not the password field in CoPilot.
talking about the touchscreen, anyone so far has experienced the mis-registering of the touch? feedback will be very appreciated. am a former Nexus one user and that bug haunted me a lot..

My screen is perfect. Absolutely love this phone. Very responsive, word prediction is sublime and I haven't had a single slowdown or crash. Check out my YouTube videos (misterleoni)
So here is my problem. Recently I upgraded from 4.1.3 to 4.3. I noticed that the Samsung keyboard now no longer seems to learn new words. Whenever I try to swipe "s#!t" or "[email protected]#$", or even a more modest word like suck, I can't use swipe. It never gives me such options. I can still type them letter by letter, but that's v slow and annoying. The Old keyboard learned the words. The new one doesn't, unless I don't know how, in which case please tell me.
Tapping the new word or clicking arrows doesn't seem to do anything.
Bump...
[SOLUTION for 4.3 Keyboard learning new words]
Found the solution by chance.
So I went into the settings once more, and I saw that auto replacement was switched off. So I switched this on and tried words that it didn't remember previously. And now it suddenly remembers the words! The more you use the words the better it seems to be able to predict them.
Happy camper!
