So here is my problem. Recently I upgraded from 4.1.3 to 4.3. I noticed that the Samsung keyboard now no longer seems to learn new words. Whenever I try to swipe "s#!t" or "[email protected]#$", or even a more modest word like suck, I can't use swipe. It never gives me such options. I can still type them letter by letter, but that's v slow and annoying. The Old keyboard learned the words. The new one doesn't, unless I don't know how, in which case please tell me.
Tapping the new word or clicking arrows doesn't seem to do anything.
Bump...
[SOLUTION for 4.3 Keyboard learning new words]
Found the solution by chance.
So I went into the settings once more, and I saw that auto replacement was switched off. So I switched this on and tried words that it didn't remember previously. And now it suddenly remembers the words! The more you use the words the better it seems to be able to predict them.
Happy camper!

I finally had a ROM and config I was really happy with, and as of this morning the onscreen keyboard seems locked in a numeric mode. There seems to be no way to get it back to qwerty. I tried switching languages and keyboards and everything I can think of. My onscreen keyboard is gone. It's just numeric and useless. What obvious thing am I missing? This happened once before when it locked itself in the web keyboard (no spacebar) but that went away after a reboot. This time it's locked. I tried a LOT before posting here.
EDIT: I don't seem to be able to delete this message, but maybe it'll be handy in the search for others looking. I searched on THIS forum before I posted, but then I was smart and searched ALL forums. I feel stupid for not thinking of that sooner. Sorry sysadmins. My bad.
I re-installed my keyboard software that uses the old style auto-correction (not T9) and it solved it.
Hi,
This is a strange issue I haven't seen anyone post about yet.
So ICS has this nice new text replacement feature that looks like this (courtesy Android Police's GNex Review):
http://cdn.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wm_Screenshot_2011-12-20-18-20-54.jpg
Now, I can long-press the word, the replace menu with the replacement words comes up, I click the word, the word changes. No problem, right? Well, if I either keep typing, rotate the screen, or send the message, the word I just replaced goes right back to the word I didn't want it to be. Example: The phone autocorrected a misspell of 'bring' to 'being'. I long-press being, change it to bring. I rotate the screen or wait/continue typing...it changes back. I tried it over 10 times...ever time it never sticks. It only sticks if I manually backspace and retype it.
Any idea why this would be happening? Phone info:
ICS 4.0.2 stock rooted
Only mod is Google Wallet APK
I don't know how long it's been happening but I feel like it only worked on the day of release, at best.
I don't know if this is something I'm just supposed to deal with, or if I'm just going at this wrong, but if I'm on a webpage and I want to get to a completely seperate one I will just slide open the keyboard and start typing. Ever since the stock OTA to 2.3.5 I have noticed that if I'm on a webpage (I usually use Dolphin, but I see the same behavior on the stock browser) and I start typing, the first letter shows that it's typed, then the next one I type overwrites the first.
It's only a small thing, but I never noticed it before. I am new to this whole scene and am running cleangb with touchwiz and the sms fix, and I still see it there. Is this common? Does no one else navigate around like me?
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated!
I'm kinda confused by this post, at first it sounds like you're on the stock gingerbread rom of Epic and then you mention you're on CleanGB. Just want to check that first. Second, does this happen on any other app you type on? I do remember having a similar problem one time and I found it was a flash that went wrong, screwed up the character display to only be 1 character wide. Either try wiping and starting from scratch or let me know some more info so I can help.
Hi, all--
New to this phone, and new to touch-screen keyboards. I desperately miss the physical keyboard on my Droid G2, but that's the only thing I miss! I was able to type much faster. When I type--even paying close attention--I am hitting something that is switching me to "symbols" instead of "letters." Also sometimes it brings up another menu. But none of that happens when I type slowly so I can't slow down and figure out what I'm hitting. Any ideas?
(FTW, I have tried swype, etc, but still feel more comfortable pecking.)
Perhaps the Sym key in the bottom left?
That's what I thought at first, too, but my thumb doesn't go down that far unless I'm really trying. Hmm...
I'd recommend you get SwiftKey from Google Play. Hands down the best keyboard for Android, atleast for me.
OK, thanks. I will try that since it was another frustrating day typing slowly and correcting mistakes.

Best choice so far.
Hello everyone! I just want to start off saying I love reading this site not only because it's so informative, but yall really help each other out. After stalking these forums extensively, I've come to the conclusion (well hopefully) that I'm the only one experiencing these issues with my tablet. First off, I love this tablet. I just feel like samsung half baked everything about it. The software Is buggy and so is the hardware (I work at an electronics store, and let me tell you, the samsung rep knows all of my problems.) It's rather unfortunate cause this is a very expensive tablet and I was expecting it to run like it's something premium. Lol, I thought.
first off is the display. I know it's gorgeous, but has anyone noticed when you're In an application like Google drive, s note, or even Facebook that the screen dims and brightens automatically? It also happens when I use swype on drive and applications like fb.
Second, the pen input/snote. In snote, has anyone had the issue where, for example, you would write a large area of text (or even smaller area), you cut it then paste it somewhere later in the note. Then, once you start writing again, anything similar to what you just cut out (for example i'll use the the word world). I'll write wor, but when I write the rest, ld, it erases that and shows me the paste symbol there. This is extremely frustrating as I'll be in class on my 3rd or 4th page of notes and this will happen (almost wants me to use my geek squad protection, almost). Yes, even after I clear the clipboard it still happens. I also have a screen shot attached to the other very common error I get in snote, or even in Sketchbook for galaxy. Action memo constantly crashes, I could just open a memo, stare at it for a few seconds and it will "unfortunately stop". ( Or, I mean, it could just be my face, but I would feel better if it was samsungs fault )
third, they keyboard. You would think the tablet with an 8 core (or at least soon to be) processor can handle it. Nopee. Swype just lags after a day or so of use. Not fun. Then, when I use the spen throughout the day, when I change the keyboard method to handwriting recognition it just dissappears. Doesn't even want to let me put one thing in. I've tried turning off the spen detection for the keyboard keyboard and I still get the same issue. When things like like this start popping up, it's time for a reboot. Which I have to do about once or twice twice a week.
Has anyone experienced these things before? Or did I just get my hopes up too high and samsung has failed me?
Thanks
oh and everything is up to date, nothing is custom besides the font, which has no Impact on these problems.
the kb was too laggy for me. i've switched to thumb kb and use tha kb switch app to auto select the samsung kb when I whoop out the spen.
I really think samsung rushed this thing out to beat the ipad release and planned on patches for anything they find.
