What do you think is best ROM for Blackstone ?
What use you ?
I guess that depends very much on what you're looking for. Until you decide what it is you want, nobody is EVER going to give you the right answer.
For me, the best ROM is the one my device came with..it's stable and works. I have never felt the need to flash a new one, esp since just about every ROM I've ever read about has a problem in one way or another (even if it is fixed the next day)
Actually, I have to say that I'm always disappointed by the number of ROMS that come out....it seems that there's new ones almost every day. I appreicate that these are released to allow people to test and report back, but surely they should be restricted to a handful of beta testers perhaps?
ok..back in my box now...apologies

The one that works best for you and best suits your individual needs.
if you dont want this thread closing i suggest you put a list of things you need require want and ask what meets your requirements. you have been warned!!!
Suggestion
Hi
May I respectfully suggest you have a trawl through the Blackstone Rom threads and see what you like and as mentioned above what best suits you. Most of the topics have a change log or features log and screenshots to help you make your mind up.
Then read the Wiki to gather all the info needed to actually start changing to the ROM you find is best for you.
Regards

I use Onkolog's and I'm very satisfied. In terms of speed it does not compare with the stock ROM, much faster. Very stable and quite Spartan, the way I like it. Hope this helps a bit more than most of the posts I've seen in this thread.
It depends on what you want.
Do you want a light, fast & probably stable ROM?
Or a heavy ROM with many programs on it?
Or between that?
I use dutty's 2.3 at the moment, but I don't use TF3D.
Take a look at what ROM's you want.
PS: the manila 3 is nice, so pick one with manila 3 and check out your new TF3D Look
In my case, after testing several realeased roms, I am using Dutty's 2.1. It is very satisfactory. I tried versions 2.2 and 2.3 but I don't particularly like the new start menu (I have a lot of programs installed and it doesn't suit my needs).
Try any of the versions (v2.xx) available at dutty's website. Any of them will amaze your relatives and friends.
I'm just surprised no MOD closed this thread!!
This is a common question with no answer as everyone is different so obviously everyones likes & dislikes will be different so no point asking which rom is better as what you may like, the next person won't!
Go into each rom thread, read up on them and flash whichever one appeals most to you. If you aren't happy, flash another!!
I've flashed countless rom's and I'm still searching for the perfect one!!

What, no deleting threads?
I asked a similar question to this about 2 months ago, having just bought a Blackstone, and got a short, sharp message about searching instead of trying to start a conversation and engage people. The thread got deleted a few minutes later.
Glad this didn't happen to you, good luck choosing a ROM. People on this forum are very helpful and talented, but can be incredibly rude at times.

I understand your comment, but if I can defend a few people on this site. Yes, some are rude and they generally get banned due to complaints....and rightly so. But others may have come across as rude but are infact actually good natured people who are just annoyed at getting asked the same questions day in.
As you said you asked the same question a few months ago and I can guarantee this same question has been asked dozens of other times. This is why we always ask people to read threads before posting new ones, and at the top of each forum included in the rules etc it also states this.
I try and be as helpful when I can and answer every query to the best of my knowledge, but I've also lost my cool once or twice.
My previous post in this thread is basically as much as anyone can offer on this subject.
Anyway, thats my two cents on the subject!!

Very well said. a) I too am surprised this didn't get closed. b) I agree, I don't think it's as much as people being rude but it gets annoying when the same questions are asked without using the search button.
and c) each ROM IS different. I've installed about a dozen different ROMs on my Blackstone and each one had their issues and/or benefits.
For the most part, I followed Dutty's ROMs but 2-3 weeks ago, I tried David's ROMs and though they're both great, I actually found an older ROM from David that I extremely liked when I disabled 3FTD. My phone is stable, extremely fast and has what I need in it.
It's very easy to get caught up "upgrading" ALL THE TIME. It seems that we all want the best and fastest ROM out there. Unfortunately, there isn't a perfect ROM out there that doesn't have some small issue and even if you found one with a minimal amount, you probably wouldn't like the amount (or lack of) programs in it.
I suggest you try several ROM's until you find a "style" that you like. After 3 years of upgrading ROM's (started back with a Razr) I can finally say I'm happy with the my current ROM and have no desire to upgrade.
So, start modding and good luck.

Sound advice by Mark. I personally have tried most roms available as well - currently using Dutty 2.4 quite happy with it, I found the new Dutty version release slighty slower then the 2.4.

Hello, the legal official rom . All cooked roms are full of bugs ...
1.56 stock rom
Ok Guys, first of all thanks for all your help in here, and for walking all of us Noobs thru so many things.
Ok, so after alot of reading (have to stop, it's killing me in school), I decided to Root for 3 things: Nandroid backups, Wifi tethering, and removing the 30 fps cap.
I did the unrEVOked 3.21 one click root. EASY!!! I appreciate the step by step walkthrus here. I thought that would be ALL I need for these 3 things. Obviously I read or understood wrong in these threads. So after forcing myself to use Fresh 3.2 (since I don't have to wipe), I did it and my phone was fine.
Problems. I cant wifi tether. Downloaded the wifi from the market. Connects to phone, but doesn't connect to the internet. I measured fps, and it is still avg 28. Why?!? I read that Fresh 3.2 would un cap that. My signal has been a little worse, and the Battery is absolutely horrible.
Please help guys. I'm really regretting this, Plus now I hear that HTC is doing an upgrade that removes the cap. Will I be able to use it if I restore my nandroid to when I first rooted, and forget about any Roms. I am NOT familiar with ROMs or Kernels, and stay away form them as I don't want to wipe my phone.
Thanks Guys in advance.
you need to read, read, and read some more. use titanium backup and backup all your apps then load a custom rom.

Fresh 3.2 comes with a stock Sprint kernel. Just download another kernel and it will unlock your fps.

First things first, ROMs don't uncap FPS or allow wifi tethering - kernals do. Since Fresh 3.2 runs on the stock HTC (unreleased) kernal obviously it wouldn't be unlocked. Secondly, you are having the downsides of it all because you didn't wipe when you are supposed to wipe before installing any ROM from scratch. I have zero issues with battery life or signal on my EVO w/ Fresh 3.2 (my battery lasts me the minimum of 14 hours on moderate use) and signal.. I don't have an answer for that b/c I spend a majority of my time in New York City where I ALWAYS have signal
This has absolutely nothing to do with Development.
you're regretting it because you read up on absolutely nothing and want someone to hold your hand, explaining every single thing.
Great first post.. .....
Here's wireless tether:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
I use pre 9. Pre 8 and pre 9 would work for you.
Tell us what you don't want to lose from wiping and we will tell you how to get it back the easiest way. IE. Contacts? make sure you sync with google before you wipe and when you will get them all back. Other than that I dont mind the wipes.

I think the reason you're regretting it is becuase you didn't do nearly the reading you say you did..... you have to read through the threads and have some idea of what you're doing to get anything out of rooting and flashing otherwise its just going to be a headache for you. I say if you don't have time to do the research, stick to stock unrooted. That one click rooting deal is great, but making it too easy for people who really don't know what they're doing has its draw backs...
all the information in these forums can be OVERWHELMING.
trying to be patient and read every little thing can be a task, not to mention reading everyones replies looking for solutions.. its crazytown.
even searching can be a hassle if you dont know what KEY WORDS to search for.
then you get the lashings if you didnt search properly.
its a PITA but i guess thats all part of the experience of being the bleeding edge.
flash this kernal as you would a rom to give yourself the option to overclock and to unlock the fps. no wipe required.

I agree with you on the KEY WORDS area, if you dont put the right stuff in or dont have the patience to try different options then ask a question--- boy oh boy the type lashing you can get in here is ridiculous. Hey seriously there is alot of info in here but you got to be willing to devote a lot of time to reading and finding it. Hey if you rooted your phone and feel its crazy just put a stock rooted rom on there and go on with life.... HEY NANDROID is da shytz tho....
wow guys can we be a little less welcoming... Not everyone on these forums is an expert...
ManUtd777, First off you want to start from scratch and wipe fully before installing any rom... If you have your contacts synced with gmail you will be able to recover them and just back up all you pictures and so on before doing the wipe.
Next find a rom and kernel combination you are happy with. Baked Snack 1.7 uses the new update the fresh uses but it also includes a battery saving and FPS unlocked kernel in the rom. If you'd like try using baked snack 1.7 so you wont have to flash a kernel.
As for signal try the new pri update and as for wifi tether follow willy900wonkas link...
and for future reference being new to rooting means alot of reading... if you have problems with the roms read the entire post and most problems are discussed in the thread.
Good luck....

Good job man. This post should help newbs. God, I remember trying to get it all in at first. This was before the one-click root method. Man, it was crazy trying to get down all those ADB commands.
Very fun! I'm always lurking about but rarely comment.
Soon, OP, you'll be on CM or something and enjoying it all. Good luck!
READ! READ! READ! I know it seems daunting but you have to do it. I read the forums at home, at work on my phone, when I'm in bed on my laptop. It would be easier if every topic was in one centralized place and the guys here do a great job but with so much info, it's hard. You have to pick a topic, read up on it and then see how that relates to another topic that suits your needs. Take fps, read up on what kernels have it included then move on to ROMs and what ROMS work good with the kernel you choose. I was the same way when I started but with a little time and patience you will be flashing away.

XDA is a huge mobile knowledge base. We take the time to create tutorials, flashable zips, WIKIs and videos teaching you how to do all these awesome things with your phone. We beta test releases and post our logcats when we bootloop. We title informative threads in CAPS and sticky them to the front page.
It doesn't surprise me people get irked when people don't read. I started out as a noob with my G1. Go through the history of my posts. You won't see any threads like this.

I try and help out as much as the next guy, or more. But when someone obviously doesn't do any research on their own (and his questions and comments do make it obvious that this is the case) its kinda hard to sympathize. Sure there's a lot of information here and nobody can sift through all of it but damn.... at least try to know about what you're trying to do. Rooting? Search root then READ. Wifi tether? These are basic terms that will come up in a search... we've all had to do it. I'm sure we've all needed a question or two answered as well, but for the most part anyone who has got their evo tweeked and customized the way they want it has also invested a lot of time in xda. Anyone not willing to even try should just stick to stock.

Hi.
I can find the Alpha CM10.1 in dev section for PRO. Was wondering if there is a stable 10.1 for the ARC S LT18i or any JB based ROM for that matter?
On that note, would you consider the CM10 and ICS based ROM's to be stable? As in daily driver worthy?
Not asking "which ROM is best" etc... rather just asking if you consider them as stable, in general. I am considering UltimaHD even thought it's ICS based, but really wanted to go up to JB if there is anything stable and worthy out there. I don't really care if it's AOKP, AOSP or Stock based.

Oh, joy! A snarky reply! How wonderful. But you are right. I should have considered that "search" button in the firs.... Wait a God damn minute! I DID!
As opposed to your usual noob, I actually took the time to search. My research (although I am sure flawed) is what led me to conclude that maybe UltimaHD would be the best choice for me. Also, I found numerous ROMs. Searching for 4.1.2 in titles only returned a bucketload of results for ICS ROMs (yes, that's right... you can even try it if you want). In those I did find mention to 1 MIUI ROM and 1 [rom][update jb][4.1.2]arc/s v06. MIUI is not something I'm interested in using right now. The second, I can't quite figure out if it's a daily driver or not. Also, many of the ROMs seem to be ICS/JB mixes.
The ARC S is not my phone. I have a SIII. I'm trying to compile the necessary info to decide what ROM to flash on the device (which actually belongs to my wife). Not having much time to flash as many ROMs as I do on my SIII, I thought maybe I'd rather ask the people that have actually used and tested available ROMs, rather than flashing one now and having my wife tell me it's no good a few days later and having to do it all over again. So far I have managed to figure out how to unlock bootloader (I hope, because I'll only be doing it tomorrow evening), root the device using flashtool (still not sure if it'll work on stock 4.0.4 but from what I have read so far, I gather it will), and flash a recovery. Am still a bit unclear on all the boot.img flashing that goes on and why it's necessary. Seems to me this has to do with the data partition. Of course I could be wrong.
So again, sorry if I "didn't" use the search button first. I'll try and not have it happen again. Oh, and thanks so much for the help. /end sarcasm

Going further. Telling that one ROM is better than another is quite disrespectful to developers. Most of them spent much time making their work for FREE and one guy can easily depreciate their work.
If you're looking for answer - try. It's easy and making it on your own is much funnier than looking for spoon feeding in every situations. Thinking is fun

Yes, you are right. I still have another thread going. But I didn't want to muddy the waters. I want to keep it separate. The focus of this thread was to understand if there is a working, for daily use, JB ROM out there. For ICS I am already pretty convinced Ultimate is the way to go as far as what I am looking for. Your reply in the other thread was most appreciated and was actually what I had considered, before I got the "go ahead" from the wife. Again, thanks for the tip. But now the circumstances have changed and flashing a ROM is now an option. For this reason I am just trying to figure out if I should opt for aosp 4.1.2, 4.2.1 or CM 10(.1) based on user experience when it comes to stability and broken features or bugs. I do not need anyone to tell me which ROM is best. I have already been told to avoid "which ROM is best" threads and I intend to do as told. But honest to God that's not what I want here. Just opinions regarding aosp 4.1.2, 4.2.1 or CM 10(.1). In general. Don't need anyone saying X rom is better or whatnot. And I am terribly sorry if this is how it came across. As for trying ROM's, I'm all for it. I have Obsessive Rom Disorder myself and am a total flashaholic. I flash ROMs to my phones like every other day at the latest. But as you pointed out my other thread, you can see that flashing dozens of roms to the ARC is not an option. I am trying to find what is or isn't stable so I can decide on the path to go, and then choose a ROM based on that. Imagine I flash 4.1.2 only to find it FC's a lot using camera app or whatever. Or that wifi is unstable and she really relies on wifi daily for work. Or anything else. I check the ROM threads for known bugs, but many a rom here on XPERIA ARC sub-forums don't list bugs, either because they have non, or because OP's don't post them. I tend to think it's probably the former and not the latter, but since I am quite used to seeing some sort of buglist, I am not sure and so, of course, hesitant.
Please, please don't think I mean to be disrespectful. Or rude. Or just plain annoying. It's just that I really can't afford to get this wrong. I need to get this right first time round (or at least within the first couple of tries) so my wife can continue to work with the phone and not come to me saying "this and that don't work".
I appreciate the community. I have learned a whole lot from you guys. I support devs when I can through donations (small for sure, but I tend to donate what I can afford from time to time). And I answer whenever I think I can help and contribute. It's just I get so annoyed when I see people just assuming I didn't search.
Sorry for the rant.

The best thing to do when trying to decide is to read through the last few pages of a ROM thread and see what's being reported, just because a ROM might work right to begin with, unknown conflicts might start to arise when the Phones been used for a prolonged period of time, an update to a certain app breaks something etc, and while for many it may not be an issue because they'll just come and get a fix or wait for an update to something that might not bother them but bothers the next user, I wouldn't go the custom ROM route, but she's your Wife at the end of the day so it's not my balls on the line.

I hear you. And I have succesfuly managed to root the phone. Am now in the process of doing a Titanium Backup of the device and a NANDROID too. I don't really want to flash custom. I'd rather tweak as you suggested, but to be honest, I have no idea where to begin with this device.
I'm having issues with a Samsung Galaxy S2 T989 where every time I place the phone on speaker, the call becomes choppy and blanks out completely at times, sounding as if I had no signal whatsoever. This started out with the stock rom so I decided to root it. I went from ICS to JB on Cyanogenmod. I flashed a newer radio because it would otherwise not let me flash anything. I tried flashing UVMC6 and it did not improve it. I then flashed UVMB1 (the 4G Blaze radio) and it still does the same thing. Call quality over the ear piece is good, but it all goes out the window when I use speakerphone.
I checked off the box on "Noise Suppression" and it doesn't do anything at all. The sound is still choppy over speakerphone. I've searched up on the forum, and so far the threads that come up are from 2012 or early 2013, but I assume that T-Mobile has made new radio/baseband settings since then.
My question is, what is the most stable radio/baseband to use on the T989 to get rid of the speakerphone problem, or is this problem a design flaw since the speaker is near the microphone?
All help is appreciated.
Wrong forum, belongs here. I've asked mods to move your thread, sit tight until they do.

I realized that after I posted it, but didn't know how to delete it.
Thanks for the request.

Best "anything" is based on your own personal preference/phone/area/setup. I recommend you try each for a day and see what is best for your phone and area.
There are only 2 radios that work on jelly bean...the newest T-Mobile one and the telus one. That's it.
Sent from my N5, N7, Moto X, G Tab 3 or S2.....

Also, some custom ROMs could have noise issues. You have to read through their threads to see. Or post in their threads.
Stock jelly bean should be flawless if thats what you want. Or a 4.1.2 touch wiz based ROM.
Good luck!

I'm using CM 10.2 stable (4.3 JB) on my T989 Koodo. Getting the same speakerphone choppiness, and the same when using a bluetooth device.
Any luck finding a good stable radio package?

Again.. There are only 2 radios that work on anything jelly bean or higher. T-Mobile or telus's newest. No other options. So all you can do is try other ROMs.

Thanks for your very short, almost arrogant, half of an answer. We are here to help each other and by doing so teaching us something that someone taught you at one time.
I se that you have said in two different posts that there are only two that will work in a build that new but, in both posts you have neglected to tell which two those are. You would think that if one was tryingto be helpful instead of posting to be an ass and belittle a person who doesn't know as much as you, that you would be kind enough to have those two versions listed in the two very informative posts you spent so much time writing.

Here you go. I searched for you and/or anyone and found this.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400
First 2 radios in the list in the opening post. Apparently the mirror links are the ones to use.
Without scolding people for not searching like many will do, or giving them attitude, I like to encourage people to search for things... without a big long lecture. I'm sorry if that didn't sit well with you.
I gave a quick and precise answer. Possibly assuming most know what the 2 radios are.... it's been a long time this way on 4.1.2 or anything above. My bad.
Take care.
I appreciate the response and the link and the apology. I wasn't looking for either of those from you though. I was merely reading different posts and replies and it amazes me how lazy or just not driven to learn and read most of the new, and not so new , members are about about searches to find what they are looking for. It does get to be time consuming for some searches and some don't even try.
On the other side of the coin,it does get old reading questions that are answered in stickies or that one sees two or three times a week being asked throughout the site.
But, as a member who isn't too far from still being a noob but, has enough time in to see both sides of the fence , there is and always has been an almost elitist, ego among members who do know more than most. It can be intimidating to ask for help because of the way they get replies. Some people k ow nothing about cell phones that come here looking for help and then get berrated for posting in the room, or not knowing what OS or kernel is installed on their device.
I just wanted to remind you that you were probably one of those guys for some time and that posting a quip that doesn't do anything to help or guide the OP to the right answer. It just adds to the stress he or she is under because their device is not working right and they don't to feel stupid for not k owing something. We all know that feeling and it sucks.
I hope he got the links and one of them works. Thanks for posting the links and what you said. We're allhere for one basic goal. To learn and teach. Let's keep to that course on the ship were sailing on XDA

You're entitled to your opinion. Many would have found my original reply more than good enough. As many have in the past. Some maybe not. Remember tho, I don't work for XDA, I'm not paid to help anyone. I'm entitled to say or not say whatever I'd like. (Within XDA rules of course) As are you.
I'm sorry my original reply didn't contain enough info for you personally.....
But some of your accusations are rather insulting.... You don't get a green name on XDA being the type of person you have accused me of being. Yes many around are exactly like you describe..... I am not.
And I'm not here to take part in arguments either.
So let's agree to disagree. And leave it at that.
And keep in mind, blasting people for not helping "enough" or in the way you hoped for will probably get even less help and just more arguments.
Anyway, take care.
Hi all,
Not trying to spark a debate here but i've just got my old Desire HD back and i'm about to pass it on to someone, so it's either, guess by the comments i'm reading, flash every rom on here or ask you fine people.
I know comparisons are frowned upon, but based upon my needs i thought that it'd be ok.
So the question is, what rom would suit someone for stability and pace, something that isn't going to give up the ghost mid call or stutter like a drunk while browsing?
Many thanks and thanks to the dev's for keeping this great phone alive, I sort of missed it when I held it again.
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers
PS: I'm about to flash Moonraker as it seems to be a final release.? ?
PPS: Just remembered how cool 4Ext recovery was, damn i miss these apps.
These threads have a way of morphing into best ROM fanboy fights, so it's time to close up shop on this one. For stability, I'd RUU back to stock and be done with it.
