LG G3 usb charging port tight - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got this bad boy few days ago. Everything. Seems fine, but when you won't to plug the charging cable in the usb connector it's not a very smooth process. It appears you cannot go straight in but tilt it UP before being able to connect. Anybody else having issues with this? Should I go get it exchanged?

This is known issue, several of us have it. I don't personally see it as a big deal. Once I figured out the proper way to insert the USB connector, it became automatic.
With the awesome battery life the G3 has, I only charge it at night anyways.

Phone randomly charging?!!??

I've been flashing roms back and forth from gingerbread to ics and so on... lately ive noticed that sometimes my phone will say that its charging without being connected to the charger... the notification light comes on and everything.. even shows charging in the battery stats... doesn't stay on for too long or even everyday... anyone else witness this?? Bad charging port? Is it the leaked roms?

This has nothing to do with the rom... it's a problem that happens when the usb port gets one of the leads crossed or messed up. For some reason the search function isn't working for me or I'd get you the link to the thread I had about it.
Basically take a long thin needle or pin and slide it down the pins on the USB connector (the inside part of the usb plug). it's hard to describe but once you figure it out you'll be fine. I had a crappy cheap charger that I stopped using after I fixed this and the problem never came back.

Battery

My battery been charging really slow lately. My phone has never been dropped or has no water damage. Can someone give me an idea and if so will a factory reset help out?
iTz Amazed On Note2
I had A similar issue and it ended up being the USB cable that came with the phone. I switched to another one and it charges so much faster.

You can buy another battery... maybe the battery is the culprit happened to me... But i ended up buying an extended slim battery thats the same size as the stock one... It added to my battery life about an extra 4hrs... You can get it here http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-3960mAh..._Cell_Phone_PDA_Batteries&hash=item337ee79e91 well worth the money
Me too
I just started having the same problem. I use to be able to use my phone while it charges and it would charge fairly quick as long as I wasn't heavly using it. Now even when I'm not doing anything on it, its charging ridiculously slow.
I thought it had something to do with my recent flashing of 4.3 but I flashed a MC2 restore and it didn't seem to matter.
Get the Galaxy Charging Current app. It will let you know the charging current. It should be *Now: 1698*. Mine would read 466 and I would reinsert cable(until I got a new charger/cable) until it read 1698. It appears there is a problem with OEM cable.

The app's developer states that this app doesn't work on any Sprint devices. But it works on yours?

Been working great for ~3 months on my Sprint Note II. It said that when I downloaded the app too. Try the free version, I like it and bought the app for the dark background feature.
I would try another USB cable first. I was having the same issue. I tried a different cable I have around, and was charging like I was expecting. So, I order two premium USB cables from monoprice.
From the reading on XDA around here, it looks like the USB cable that came with phone get shorts in them fair easy; ie they're not very durable. For me, no biggie since I like to keep cables in various places--car, house, backpack, go to bag, etc.
It changing the cable didn't work, try a different charger. If that doesn't work, try the battery. If none of those work, then it's probably your USB port.
Although, the USB cable is most likely the issue.
If you've had the phone for awhile, try cleaning out the microUSB port on it. I used a toothpick and picked out a surprising amount of lint that had accumulated in there. It may help establish a better connection between the cable and the port.
Definitely seems to be an issue with the usb cable, I had the same issue, switched cable, and all is fine.

Thank you all for the info I will check up.on the extended slim battery. I feel that it might be my cable cause on the car charger it charges quick with no problem.

[Q] Anyone else have a tight micro USB port?

Just picked up my new LG G3 two days ago. Does anyone else have a hard time plugging the micro usb cable into their phone? I have to sit their for a little bit and wiggle the plug around to get it into the phone. Never had this issue with a micro usb device before. Wanted to know if this is normal for this phone,
I am experiencing the same thing you are.. seems like the charging cable teeth seem to be too snug..

I have the T-Mobile g3 and I do have that issue. As though the port is not aligned properly. I also had the sprint g3 before I traded it for my T-Mobile one and had no issue with it. I assume it's normal random small defects that can come with any man made device.
Yep same here
It's not tight, it's angled slightly. Basically you're plugging it in upwards but also tilted in towards the back a little. I think I'm getting used to it the more I do it.
Some connectors are more friendly about it than others too.
Spit on it first and go really slow. If its still too tight start with something smaller and work your way up.

HAH!
---------- Post added at 05:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:47 AM ----------
But yes, it is a bit tougher to plug in the micro usb plug into the port than most other phones I've used. Also, some micro usb cables plug in much easier than certain others. The specific LG charger is almost very hard to plug in but my older HP Touchpad charger plugs in with no problem.
Do you guys think it's a defect worth exchanging the phone for?
samehere. Just tilt the usb cord tip downward.

No. It's not the phone. It's the cable. My other cables plug with no trouble (same thing with the G2)

Actually, I tried mutliple cables and have had the same problem with all of them. It is worse with some than others.
Same problem here. Slightly tilting the USB cable does the trick.
The tighter the better
I've has many phones where the USB port is poor quality. This one feels solid. I'm very impressed with this phone

Yup, like I said in my previous post, other cable plugs in normally, just the g3's default cable that's a bit tight but it's no biggie.

My experience was with all cables having the problem. I exchanged it at Best Buy and the new one is a big improvement.

[Q] LG G3 wireless charging

Hi guys, I've got a D855 and i'm trying to figure out if it Qi enabled. I've been reading online but it seems that no straight answer can be found.
I've read somewhere that if i've got these pins on my cover then it can charge with a Qi charger.
Can anyone please clear this up for me before i go on the adventure of ordering a charger from the other side of the world and work on it clearing customs?
Yes that's the same as the inside back cover of my d855 that came with a wireless charger included.

So i'm good to order the charger?
Do you have a source to quiet my worries?
hmmm got 2 cheap round wireless charger... used a few days with hell of an issue of slow charging albeit getting the original 1.8 charger nor the 2.1 version.
now just tried again, and it wont charge... the pad seems working fine, but my lg g3 just wont charge... can only connect to cable now.. annoying but any chance the receiver coil brokw or something? or there is a switch in the settings somewhere i may missed out?

Faulty USB components????

My original device had an issue with charging 2 months ago. Connector would only work in one direction. That ended up with USB charging not working at all and SMOKING hot connector. Headphones didn't work and no connection to PC.
Got replacement obviously. Thought all was well till I tried the headphones adapter. Didn't work. Got new adapter which didn't work either. (Works fine in my Chromebook).
So now ready for factory reset (AGAIN) to verify faulty device/port.
Are these ports/connectors an issue for us? Don't see too many complaints here.
Looks like issue connecting to PC also...

Haven't heard of this. You most probably have a connector/ usb board failure and contacting google will result in a replacement. Sounds like only the power leads have survived, with the data ones dying somehow.

Do you mean, only one side of the USB-C cable can charge your device? Like if you turn it upside down it doesn't charge, but when you flip it back up it does? Only asking as I have that issue and Google doesn't seem too bothered as I've been waiting for their engineers for over 3 weeks now to reply.
This seems to definitely be a problem. I've actually seen a lot of people talk about similar issues. I just got a replacement about a month ago due to my phone not charging with a USB C to C. It wouldn't connect to a computer right either. If you have a second phone with the same issue, unfortunately, I would suggest having Google replace it as well. Request a brand new phone this time letting them know you have the same issue on a replacement. Not sure if a brand new one will be better, but worth a shot. My replacement so far has been great.
Good luck

Yes on my first device, the initial symptom was no charging. Then flip the C connector upside down and it would charge. That situation seemed intermittent. Eventually no charging at all and everything got smoking hot with crispy burn smell at Port.

Thank you for confirming. That's exactly what I am afraid of - I don't want to risk my device to get really hot, start smoking and perhaps even blow up. I'll go ahead and try my best on discussing my options with Google and to get a replacement.
