I actually thought a lot and tried 2 custom roms but the battery drain is beyond acceptable. First was the Carbon ROM, I really love the ROM and its features, but I lost about 17% charge while I was asleep. Thats some standby battery drain. Worst of all I even had the phone underclocked and had deep sleep on, still no use. The phone keep draining a lot in standby.
Then I tried CM, but that also gave pretty much the same result, I lost 15% yesterday night. Even with max frequency set to 1.7Ghz and the deep sleep Xposed module installed.
Nothing seems to be going well, do Xposed modules take a lot of toll on your battery life? I usually choose to add Keepchat, Headsup display, Nexus navbar and wifikey modules.
Could it be the Xposed or was it cause the ROMs were 4.4.4?
And if possible I would like to remain on Carbon, but for the battery drain I think i'll have to try some stock based roms or go back to proper stock again. I hope someone using any of the custom roms could help me out with my battery drain issue
Thank you.
I have ds battery saver and i set my own configuration and on stock rom in standby mode my battery drain 1%/h. Try this program and tune cpu to 1 core active in deepsleep and 1h interval in wivh my apps are frozen for 1h my wifi turn off and mobile data for 1h and after that my phone give permission to apps etc for 1minute to synchro etc. At night from 23 to 6 i have set that nothing can synchro everything depend from your settings

Dirty Flash?
Low signal area?
From what I know 4.22 has about 1 hour less screen on time than 4.12. Then again, I think we all here can drain about 30% battery in a hour, if we wanted to. What exactly are you doing in that 1 hours time.
battery isn't what it used to be.
4.1.2 was much better battery wise
Some solutions
you can try apps like:
greenify which hibernates background apps and some other apps which are hibernated as your phone goes in standby. (Root)
Ds battery saver which will turn off wifi when the phone is on standby.
Cpu sleeper which turns off one core when phone is on standby (Root)
Battery Calibration (Root)
Lux auto brightness which adjust the brightness and is battery efficient
You can under clock or under volt or even change your screens colour settings. (Root)
Hope these apps and tips help
While i acknowledge that most of battery life is determined by the actions of the user and what apps they use, some ROM/Kernel combos just have notoriously crap battery life regardless of how you cut it. I have found that 10.1 and its stock kernel are one of those instances. Hell, even while using a different kernel and great settings i still have been unable to get the same kind of battery as i can with other combos. Personally, EOS is the complete package of customizability and battery life out of the box for me. Perhaps you should give it a shot. CyanogenMod is just far too dirty.

All good except for Battery Calibration. That app, and others that operate on the same premise are 100% snake oil. And end user can do the exact same thing that the app does simply by unplugging their phone from the charger after a full or near-full charge. It in no way, shape, or form touches anything related to battery life or battery charge indication.

Hi everyone,
from 1 month ago i notice very low battery life, my phone is 0% at the afternoon, i always use AK series with Paranoid ( switch sometimes to AOKP,CM and Stock ), Full disk encryption, this is normal, somebody had this problem from 4.2.2, but the strange thing is, this battery drain is high only when using custom kernel ( tried franco, Ak, and Lean), with other kernel i don't have this problem, yesterday i tried with full rom reflash without any custom kernel my battery life. i come back to home at 22:00 ( 10:00PM ) with 20% , same usage like always.
Use always 3G data on, with 50% time on wireless, all sync on , google now off, Apps timeout sync set to 1 hour
I investigate about this thing, i notice for first thing this: custom kernel is too aggressive, new interactive designed for 3.4 series is too aggressive, switch to MAX without any need ( 10-20% load ), but i don't know why battery life is so low anyway...
Franco kernel is more horrible for me, battery went down like 1%/4min ( with some sms and whatsapp )
lean seems more neutral here, but always high battery drain
Here the are some stats from this day testing ( from 100% to 0% ) (*All kernel using stock kernel configuration )
1) Stock kernel
16.44 Hours on battery
02.57 Hours on screen on
2) Ak Kernel
14.08 Hours on battery
01.44 Hours on screen on
3) Franco kernel
07.49 Hours on battery
02.03 Hours on screen on
4) Lean Kernel
18.31 Hours on battery
2.11 Hours on screen on
Anyone else has noticed this strange issue? on custom kernel i always noticed overheating too, this is very strange!
Try ondemandplus, I've had no problems with that.
Unless you just have to have facebook provide notifications on stuff disable the facebook notifications. I did that on my GNex and saw an increase of several hours to my battery life with more screen on time. I've also noticed for some reason that texting seems to drain my battery really quickly and can't seem to find a reason for this.
I know this, disabled notification stuff from day1, but the strange thing is stock kernel has no problem ,46 % with 2 hours battery on stock

Here is mine today. I'm running stock with Franco Kernel. Everything is syncing except for facebook. I also have about 1:30 hr's of phone calls today.
Hello,I am using Zenfone 2 16GB, 4GB ram . My battery life is bad every 3 minute %1 drain fastly ...
I can see screen time maximum 4 hour or maybe a little more for 4 hour.Screen Light %0 wifi is closed and everything is closed no working program no working bluetooth or nfc etc..I tried everthing for better battery life but ı cant solve this problem ı bought my phone one mounth ago and ı see everyday android is is using %45-50 battery.I never opened auto screen lighter or 4g or ntc. But drain, fastly every 3 minute %1 drain.my firmware is 2.20.40.58 and how can solve this problem can you help me please
To help improve battery life
1. Please ensure to turn off 'Wifi Scanning always available.'
2. Please also see the following information showing 8 ways to extend the ZenFone 2 battery Life. http://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1012981/
3. If still no improvement then recommend performing a hardware reset including cache wipe partition and try steps 1 & 3 again. http://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1011956/

None of those ASUS official 8 ways do solve the root cause of the battery drain issue.
So far I find most interesting way that may really double your battery life is to activate the "Intel Deep Sleep Mode"
Please check at the link (sorry too new to post a link)

Hi
I still dare to activate my Zenfone2 deep sleep mode following the process.
Guess what happened? I have no problem with my proximity sensor nor any issue with ZenMotion after 1 week tests.
And the battery saving effect of this deep sleep mode is working like a champ.
I have not yet calculated scientifically but the deep sleep mode at least *doubled* my battery life, which means before activating deep sleep mode I need to recharge every day of even 1/2 day. Now my Zenfone2 could work without charging for more than 1 day or even 2 days under normal use.
Now I have removed all apps related to battery saving like amplify, greenify, battery doctors, etc.
and I don't even need to close any app in startup management and the deep sleep still works and extend my battery life up to 2 days recharging cycle under my normal usage.
Although I find a side(not bad) effect so far is that the file transfer will be "deep slept" (i.e. backup progress stopped at the % where your screen turns off) and it seems the moving activity in the background is deactivated when screen off. But this is not a issue to me as I expect all apps and activities that out of my focus should not keep draining my battery. I can achieve this by stopping unkown/unecessary wakelocks through "xplosed + amplify" but I don't need them anymore as deep sleep mode seems does the same for me.
One thing really does matter to me is that will all notification still works? My test so far shows that by activating the deep sleep mode will not disable any wifi nor 4G signal nor any notification that the apps should normally give you alarms/warnings, especially wake up alarms.
I'd like to really really thank you for your advise.
I think this "intel deep sleep mode" is really a total soultion to the Zenfone 2 battery drain issue and worth a try, at least for me so far.
I don't know if this process also may apply to non-intel cpu android phones which also have the andorid os battery draining bugs.

can you tell me the steps to enable deep spleep mode?
I am a noob bro  but the following tweaks will certainly help u.
I use auto start manager to manage almost all except a few apps like whatsapp and truecaller etc.
Disable wifi scanning and wifi network notification in wifi advanced settings. Our phone's brightness is too much even on the lowest setting so keep it around 25-30% for lower battery drain from display.
Watch out for wakelocks, read the battery graph. I prevented truecaller and playstore from waking up device.
Turn off gps when not using.
Disable asus built in bloatware and certain google apps that u don't use e.g. i dont use google plus, talkback, hangouts and even chrome since these run in background and drain battery.
Google app is also a big culprit. I personally don't use google app and disabling it will make a big difference.
Then use data usage in mobile manager for further tweaks. Avoid 4g/3g when idle.
Mine is a 2gb z00a and i get a decent backup of around 1.5 days with normal usage with calling whatsapp browsing. Intel processor is a battery vamp and this fact can't be changed.
And not to forget after every ota update perform a cache wipe to get rid of conflicting data from previous firmware.
And this intel deep sleep mode is new to me..will also try it.

Hi, I have a OnePlus 3 with LineageOS, I also used to have the ElementalX kernel on which I enabled the battery monitor and I could see the battery drain percentage/hour in real time, at first it was 1,5%/h idling which is already terrible (for ref i used my schoolmates nexus, which had 0,5%/h and also googled a bit) but then it got worse and worse until it got to 3%/h so I decided to clean flash the rom and leave the stock kernel on... And that has left me with awful OCD about my battery since I can't see the drain in real time anymore (Previously I used the EX Kernel Manager which works only with that kernel)
So I need to know 2 things, does anyone know why my battery drain could have been acting out? And more importantly, please recommend me some apps that can display the idle battery drain in real time...
Thanks in advance.
Ex kernel mangaer works with all kernels. You could use accubattery as well, it does have a similar option too. Idle drain needs to be checked on long runs, for example if you use your phone for texting and turn your screen on/off many times, a battery monitor app could not be that accurate because when it scales the percentage used by screen off it could register the amount of power used by the screen when it was on ( but it wasn't register as screen on because the 1% dropped when the screen was off even if you used that 1% when the screen was on). I hope it's clear enough. English is not my native language and it's hard to explain it.
I'm having battery issues. I am normally getting 2 hours SOT maximum, which reduced to 1h30 over time. I did a factory reset (still on stock android) and flashed ElementalX kernel to downclock the cpu/gpu, to hopefully save some juice, but it didn't change much. It looks like my phone is never going to sleep or doze and is depleting battery at a steady rate while not in use.
Here is a screenshot album: imgur.com/a/dezhr
Some **** won't let phone enter Doze, you can see Awake (screen off) line in Better Battery Stats. It means, that although screen is off, phone is still fully awake - probably an app syncing in background.
IMHO it's Google Play, not sure though. Try reflashing current ROM build and newer GApps, while keeping all data.
It looks like it was Facebook Messenger that was running constantly in the background.. Once I killed the app, the power stopped dropping. Also it seems that turning off the wifi helped a bit too (since there was no wifi available).
