Hey Guys
For some weird reason I only seem to have 85MB free ram most of the time it's only ever got up to 106-110MB, On my old San Francisco I had a good 200-300MB, Why have I only got 85? Is it how the phone is or is something taking all the Ram up? :S
Thanks
Jamie
Hi, I have the same issue with the ram as you do, with no active applications running I'm always around the 260MB mark, I also thought this phone had 500MB ram but it shows up as 351MB in the Task Manager, seems odd to me!
Hmmm even when I clear everything and/or restart phone I always have around 282/351 used :S whats using all the ram?!
Hmmm even when I clear everything and/or restart phone I always have around 282/351 used :S whats using all the ram?!
our wonder phone really has 512 MB RAM, but around 150 MB are reserved for the system. a possible reason for heaving such a small amont of free RAM could that you installed much apps und that they can't be stopped over stock task manager.
another way to get more RAM is to root your phone and use the supercharger script. I get around 200 MB free RAM.
so try to deinstall some apps that you don't need or try to install a custom rom.
sorry for my bad english D
I get 150MB is reserved + I've tried taskiller and that still says 85mb :/ + what is this supercharger script? and I will uninstall some apps and see, your english is pretty good
Thanks
the supercharger script is a tweak which will get you more control of your RAM.
you can get some tutorials in the development section of our forum.
I just can't live without it anymore, even if I have like 3 to 4 apps running in the foreground and around 6 to 7 apps in the background, I have like 100 MB RAM free, so I really recommend you to use the supercharger script
---------- Post added at 09:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:50 PM ----------
you can pm me if you need further help
Tried It + restarted no difference then I did a taskill ALL then after checking The built in task manager i had 200/350mb used so it's better but still a bit slow +since taskilling them all it's slowly creeped up again :/
uhm, as I said, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438452
here is a tutorial for the supercharger script. before you follow it you'll have to root it. for rooting your phone is another tutorial.
got to go now, tomorrow is school for me..
so, just pm me for questions or try to contact any other people who know they way around
good night bro!
Using CWG OC ROM....

It seems all good if I keep taskilling so I've taken the risky option of setting it to autokill when the screen is off and hopefully that'll help
Thanks
Jamie
I don't think task killers are recommended for use with V6 TC....
There is a fast engine flush script with V6 which will recover RAM....you can use it as a widget!!!
In any event, task killers are not recommended generally with Android, as the system itself will get RAM as and when it needs it, of course within constraints of available RAM.

Hi Everyone,
Currently using the ViperX ROM, and loving the ability to toggle minfree on the fly. This isn't exclusive to this ROM but I've always had a problem playing music on the One-X, which I find amusing.
Basically if I open the player, and background it, it'll randomly kill itself. I might get 30 seconds out of it, I might get an hour.
Not only that, but I pretty much can't use anything else. If I go on a webpage - dead. Music killed.
What are the optimal settings for keeping my backgrounded apps alive? I'm happy enough to lose some 'free' RAM in order to constantly keep my music alive, even if I have to manually kill it I'm okay with this.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone.
Download auto memory optimizer
There's an option to set the min free values, and some presets
Pick the optimal preset to be honest, it doesn't actually matter if it's a low value, because we have a fast enough cpu to load apps into memory quickly anyways, so it doesn't matter if memory is full from other stuff being cached (which likely is what we load most often anyway)
Keep the values low, and give it a test. If you find sense launcher starts reloading you can use processes tab, then tap and hold on HTC Sense, and change the oom value (its one of the options can't remember the exact name) that should keep in memory until reboot at least.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice lawrence. Unfortunately, same issue - I go between a few windows (not games or anything, maybe a webbrowser page or two), and the background music program is killed
in that app you can tweak the value for content provider.
make that quite low (like 20mb or something), then tap apply.
let me know if that works...
lock apps in memory..
use Pimp My Rom. There is an option to lock apps in memory. so it won't kill whatever apps you select.
well hiy every one !!! i have a trick i want to share . THIS trick you may know but only if you dont and it is only for stock firmweres of samsung i have tried so.
i have tried it on stock or modded GB and working great .
and tried it on stock jb 4.1.2 on the galaxy s2+ so have fun
1- open dialer
2- type *#9900#
3-choose (change debuge level )
4- well here by stock you will find it at low you have to change it to medium or high and personaly i prefer med. and high for heavy HD games . as you like (change it to med. for normal use )
5- save , close and restart .
6- enjoy
and remember this is working for only stock roms for all samsung galaxy and it will boost your game performance as well some multitasking
if you like please hit thanks it wont take from your time
Thanks for all SGW DEVOLPERS AND SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH

ur welcome
well still trying to know i am not a pro yet
but i think One of the goals of Fast Dormancy is to increase the battery life of a device, by limiting the amount of signaling between the phone and the cell network. But, when Fast Dormancy it is not enabled in the network and is enabled on the phone it ironically works the other way around, and actually drains more battery than before. i hope you got it
thanks, attached link explained everything about it.

shouldnt it be the other way round.
debugging is seeking for bugs in your phone.
if u set debug at highest priority, cpu has more work to do debugging.
set the lowest, free up cpu for other apps. right or wrong?
so should we leave it at low (default), correct me if i'm wrong.
btw, my antutu benchmark score is 7415.
stock rom gb 2.3.6, debug set at low.

i dont feel any difference, tats why i leave debug at low setting.
my rom is completely stock GB 2.3.6, only mod is boost 3D graphic with AdrenoBooster V0.3.
it only works for GB, simple to install, didnt need to flash.
extract adreno_config.txt file from v0.3 zip, copy n paste to data/local/tmp. done. reboot.
boost 3D graphic from 2000 to 4000 score mark.
openGL ES 1.1 max 56 fps.
openGL ES 2.0 max 16 fps.

I confirm, wi-fi isn't working. Also, no synapse (and no support of it if installed from google store), no new governors, no zram in standard performance setting. And with this kernel there's only 721 MB of RAM instead of 722 MB RAM in stock! Where's my precious 1 MB of RAM? Is it gone forever? No way! I'll restore you from recovery, my dear, come to papa!
But it's booting and seems stable. A good work anyway, thanks bubor!
updated new one:

I dont know what with wifi, try to disable wifi from rom before updating.
My i927 has many issue, but wifi stable with this kernel
Factory reset, install cm-11-20140315-UNOFFICIAL-i927.zip, gk-1.2, and wifi work.
What rom do you use?

Ok, wi-fi works, camera works, OC to 1.2 Ghz works, I see new governors (testing Intellidemand at the moment, people say it should be less battery consuming than interactive), the only thing else I wish from kernel is a bit more RAM (819 MB in LiteKernel was great, but it caused camera to bug and wake lag, maybe there is a compromise?). Thanks to bubor once again!
Fast Charge support
Any chance you can add a patch to the kernel? This would add Fast Charge support.
This patch is for another device but it looks clean enough that it can be applied to ours without much work.
https://github.com/bruce2728/android_kernel_htc_pyramid/pull/1.patch
There was fast charge on LiteKernel, but it was removed for some reason. Maybe it was unstable.
Btw, I just restored an old backup of CM 10.1.3 (it's 4.2.2 ROM), flashed LiteKernel and... Asphalt 8 is working! Hey, I tried everything for couple of days to make it run on different ROMs, with different caches and apks, and the only thing that game needs is a bit more RAM? What a crap...
Is there also a chance of increasing RAM on grakernel? Sorry for my humble asking, I'm just a fan of Asphalt series, from the first game back on Symbian... I know you're doing dev work in leisure time and I'm Ukrainian with 130$ monthly salary, so can't even donate, but I very appreciate all your work here.

better use zram. Litekernel simply decreases reserved ram. Its very easy to implement to this kernel, but I think there is reason to reserve 280M memory.
Put ramhack version here: http://dualhoki.vim.hu/bubor/dev/grakernel/gk_1.2-i927-ramhack.zip

But not for me. The only way I managed to launch Asphalt 8 is that 4.2.2 android with LiteKernel. When I flashed back "stock" kernel from kick buttowski, Asphalt said me: no more! I even tried to manually close every service and program and turned on zRAM yesterday. Still crashes on launch and even doesn't show me an error message.

Interactive governor works as it should, smooth and stable, there was no new issues, the kernel is solid when used from the box. The only thing is the need to change CPU max clock from 1320 (default) to 1000 Mhz (this should be default I think).
But I caught wi-fi bug again - I turned it off, used my phone for a some time, and after that it doesn't turn on until reboot. Still I can't find what causes this problem. May be it's somehow related to deep sleep, because I never encountered this when the phone is on charge (the phone never goes to deep sleep on charge).
And thank you bubor and grtsarav for your help! I managed to launch that Asphalt 8! Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I downloaded apk again (not the latest 13081 version, but previous 13051), downloaded cache for third time and it launched even without ramhack. It seems that latest version of Asphalt 8 on google store is simply broken on our device.

No I've never gotten that warning and it does not remove the safety feature I only changed the first three bump downs and left the last four bump downs stock so there is no risk involved with this mod
There was an early mod/tweak where users were/are turning ON Thermal Daemon Mitigation and HiTempProp. I have those enabled, does your mod override that, work in conjunction with it? Should they be set back to off? I flashed V2 and it seems to be fine but with those other mods Im not sure which one is taking precedence or if they are compatible.

Yes you definitely want to enable or disable how ever you want to look at it just leave as they were as stock thermal daemon mitigation and high temperature Properties as those completely turn off any throttling at all so you run a risk of burning up your phone if you are doing some heavy gaming
This doesn't seem to work at all. Using a cpu control app such as No Frills i can't set the cpu speed at the max 2.5 ghz when the temp reaches ~60°C. I also tried changing the thermal settings with 3c Toolbox, but no luck there either (i did remember to change the permissions). When you change the thermal settings in 3c Toolbox when do they become active? So back to my original question, why can't i set the cpu speed at 2.5 ghz or does that even matter?

The throttling is still the same. I have VS985 and that seems to he the source of all my problems. How would I get this to work on Verizon variant?

The only bug is if you change the thermals in an app like 3c toolbox you have to go back into system/etc and change the permissions back to 0777 on thermald.config
