Hi XDA
I bought a no-name magnetic charging cable to use for charging my Z1 Compact.
I have generally disable the Auto-rotate functionality as it often annoys me, especially if I lie in bed and want to check my phone.
The thing is just, that when my phone is being charged via the magnetic charging cable, it overrides the auto-rotate = off setting. It simply auto-rotates even though it is disabled (which can be confirmed via the settings and quick settings).
If I charge via Micro-USB it doesn't overrule the auto-rotate setting.
What can I do about this?
Best regards,
Martin
PS. Daydream (or whatever it is called) is disabled. I.e. I have no charging specific configuration as far as I know.
That's probably cause it takes the magnetic charger as a dock n so it overrides the auto rotate, n well I didn't actually mind it so never tried to disable it, n can't check now either cause I flashed a custom rom yesterday :/

I've the same problem. If you're rooted you can install an xposed module, I believe it's called desk dock. It disables the rotation even when connected via magnetic charger.

Anyone know if there's a setting somewhere to keep the screen on when Xoom is in the standard dock? I don't see anything anywhere.

Its easy enough to set the display to remain on while docked and CHARGING. See above post.
If you want it to remain on whether you are charging or not, it would probably be easiest to just create a widget using Extended Controls that you could toggle with ease.
screeble (If it works on honeycomb) allows you to keep the screen on or off based on the angle.
All great suggestions, thanks guys!

I'm surprised there is no auto launch for the clock app when docked. My N1 has this and its great. I've used it as my alarm clock since I got it.

I'm having trouble with this when developing apps using my Xoom while only connected via the micro usb port. The screen shuts off after my allotted window. Now, when charging, the screen does stay on. Still, kinda a pain.

thats interesting, android must be using its charging status as a way of identifying if its connected or not and thus ignoring the usb connection since it does not believe itself to be charging. obviously you can just put a toggle on there to leave screen always on manually (with something like power widget) but good to know.
From what I understand, the dock is supposed to Launch the Car Dock screen... Mine doesn't... It charges... I haven't tested Audio yet... But doesn't launch...
Any suggestions?
I'm gonna try my wife's fone (bone stock) tonight and see if it's something I did to my fone that's inhibiting this function

I'm having the same problem. I installed the StartTalking app, and it has its own car mode, so that may be the problem.
I had that same problem.
I had gotten a replacement Atrix, and when I tried using it in the car dock, it wouldn't launch unless you first put the phone in the dock, then turned the car on, then unlocked the screen, and even then it would take a few seconds to recognize it. The original phone would just launch automatically no matter if there was power or not.
Both phones had fresh 1.2.6 SBF flashed, it may be a hardware problem.
Mine has never given me any issue. I love using it! Just wish there was a case that the dock would accept!
Okay... so.. tried the wife's unmolested fone, and same thing... I wonder if the 1.57 patch has something to do with it?..
Might have to shoot moto a complaint...
I found an app in the market which was simply a short cut that you could program for your car mode app. You could also use Any Cut or Launcher Pro to do a shortcut. But I agree. It's annoying.
I use another car app and just launch it manually.
Strange. I'm on 1.5.7, rooted, with GingerBlur and my car dock works fine.

Wonder if I've got a bunk dock... 2 phones and neither workin' makes my left eyebrow raise a little... Gonna try w/ one more fone on saturday hopefully and try and figure out wtf is goin' on
I don't wanna hit a button... That's part of the awesomeness of the dock... Not working as designed = not as cool... =\
It's probably your dock. I got one that wasn't working correctly. I exchanged the dock, and the new on is working fine.
I have the same problem, but I don't have a solution yet. I have the home dock and car dock and was running a stock 4.1.8.3. Everything was great until I decided to root. I read that I could not root with 4.1.8.3 so I flashed 4.1.2.6. and I was able to root, but I lost my home and car dock auto launch when I put them into the docks. I upgraded OTA 4.1.5.7 and no fix. I flashed 4.1.5.7 and no fix. I can use Any Cut to run the programs, but that is only good for those without the docks. I tried running the Dock Settings for the audio settings, but I get an error that reads "Dock not found". The phone charges in the docks, but does not recognize that its in a dock. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

I think people are describing two problems. One was due to the firmware, the other is due to faulty hardware.
I had a faulty standard dock that wouldn't cause an auto-switch on the phone. I replaced it and that one was fine. I suspect that was what at least one poster had with their car dock.
These docks work in USB host mode (which is why the docks can't then be linked through to a PC for syncing). So there is actually electronics in there rather than just a USB pass through.
hi everybody; im a new member here, and i have 2 questions if its possible
1- how to disable charging the phone via usb cable
2- when i charge the battery with wall charger ( blackberry charger) the screen is locked, is that an option or a bug?
im using miui rom the last one 1.10.21( wajkiui)
thanks a lot ....................
109 views and no one simple reply?!! wow! thanks anyway.....
1) You can't disable charging from usn, seen as there is no physical difference in the usb plug. Still the same electric pins providing electricity to it
2) Yes it probably is a bug, but if you search for it, you may know more on it. Bugs rarely happen to only one person

Ah! ok, thanks for replying ill search dor that, maybe because im using blackberry wall charger , i need the original one i suppose.
Hello, I use the original charger and Motorola had the same problem, both in MIUI Rom as the CM7. My screen does not crash, but is very slow, I tried several things but it does not. How to disable loading, try using aa option "USB Debugging" enabled and when you connect, use "usb storage". I hope this helps.

Dear All,
I realized that the first thing I do when I get to work is to put my Nexus 4 on my charging pod and then proceed to turn on my computers. So I thought it would be interesting to write an app that automatically powers on my PCs by detecting that it has been placed on the wireless charger.
Here is the app I came up with. It is called "All Hail". I apologize for the bad icon (which was done in GIMP and paint) which I will definitely be updating soon.
Playstore Link.
Please take a look at this video to get an idea of what it is supposed to do:
If you do not have a charging pod or has a phone that does not support wireless charging, I have also put in a "All Hail" button on the main screen which you can press to get the same result.
The requirements for this to work are:
1) The phone is on the same network as your computers
2) You have enabled your computers to support Wake on LAN (usually need to enable this on the network card driver and then the BIOS). There are plenty of tutorials on google on how to enable WOL in your PC.
I hope you all will try this out. And I do apologize for any bugs since this is my first attempt to write an app. So please go easy on me
Thanks.
I will try this.Sound cool.

Or, you can just put your computer to sleep.
Then just move the move when you want it to turn back on.
Same thing, just that the mouse wakes it, not the phone.
Hi all,
I purchased a Nexus 7 (2013) for the sole purpose of using it in my car (for OBD gauge monitoring).
I want to be able to take the tablet out of the car for outside use, updating and what not. I'm in the process of molding a fiberglass mount with wireless charger attached. It works great - the magnets will hold the tablet even under heavy G forces, and the charger is charging.
The problem is I didn't know about the "feature" that turns the screen off when a magnet is sensed!
What is the easiest way to disable the sensor? I will literally NEVER need it to be activated.
I'm new to androiding. When I got my device it was in the boot loop of death so I managed to Google my way through reloading the factory software, but I didn't particularly enjoy it.
Really hoping there's an easily downloadable solution.

ElementalX Kernel has "option to disable magnetic on/off".
You can install the kernel easily with Restock2 + Addons
Also note: ElementalX-N7-6.17 custom kernel - I recommend to preset "doubletap2wake" and "battery life extender". For car use also preset "USB OTG + charge mode"
