From what I understand, the dock is supposed to Launch the Car Dock screen... Mine doesn't... It charges... I haven't tested Audio yet... But doesn't launch...
Any suggestions?
I'm gonna try my wife's fone (bone stock) tonight and see if it's something I did to my fone that's inhibiting this function

I'm having the same problem. I installed the StartTalking app, and it has its own car mode, so that may be the problem.
I had that same problem.
I had gotten a replacement Atrix, and when I tried using it in the car dock, it wouldn't launch unless you first put the phone in the dock, then turned the car on, then unlocked the screen, and even then it would take a few seconds to recognize it. The original phone would just launch automatically no matter if there was power or not.
Both phones had fresh 1.2.6 SBF flashed, it may be a hardware problem.
Mine has never given me any issue. I love using it! Just wish there was a case that the dock would accept!
Okay... so.. tried the wife's unmolested fone, and same thing... I wonder if the 1.57 patch has something to do with it?..
Might have to shoot moto a complaint...
I found an app in the market which was simply a short cut that you could program for your car mode app. You could also use Any Cut or Launcher Pro to do a shortcut. But I agree. It's annoying.
I use another car app and just launch it manually.
Strange. I'm on 1.5.7, rooted, with GingerBlur and my car dock works fine.

Wonder if I've got a bunk dock... 2 phones and neither workin' makes my left eyebrow raise a little... Gonna try w/ one more fone on saturday hopefully and try and figure out wtf is goin' on
I don't wanna hit a button... That's part of the awesomeness of the dock... Not working as designed = not as cool... =\
It's probably your dock. I got one that wasn't working correctly. I exchanged the dock, and the new on is working fine.
I have the same problem, but I don't have a solution yet. I have the home dock and car dock and was running a stock 4.1.8.3. Everything was great until I decided to root. I read that I could not root with 4.1.8.3 so I flashed 4.1.2.6. and I was able to root, but I lost my home and car dock auto launch when I put them into the docks. I upgraded OTA 4.1.5.7 and no fix. I flashed 4.1.5.7 and no fix. I can use Any Cut to run the programs, but that is only good for those without the docks. I tried running the Dock Settings for the audio settings, but I get an error that reads "Dock not found". The phone charges in the docks, but does not recognize that its in a dock. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

I think people are describing two problems. One was due to the firmware, the other is due to faulty hardware.
I had a faulty standard dock that wouldn't cause an auto-switch on the phone. I replaced it and that one was fine. I suspect that was what at least one poster had with their car dock.
These docks work in USB host mode (which is why the docks can't then be linked through to a PC for syncing). So there is actually electronics in there rather than just a USB pass through.

man, i'm going INSANE with this phone. car mode keeps turning itself on no matter what i do i can't get rid of it. there isn't even an app installed that i can uninstall. it just keeps turning on randomly in the notification bar and if i'm doing anything on my phone it messes things up. any ideas how to get rid of this?

what ROM you running that you can't uninstall it through the standard settings?
you should be able to uninstall with Titanium. at least as a quick fix, but this may be indicative of another issue?
i had the same problem

I had the same problem before. In settings you can disable car mode from launching but every time you use headphones the volume will be stuck because it thinks its in car mode. I think the problem came from a cheap charger that I was using it may have bent or affected the connections some way that made the phone think it was in a car dock. Even when it wasn't plugged into anything. I just bought a better charger and a few weeks later the problem just stopped. I have no idea. hope that helps

here is the thread i ran on this problem... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12027541#post12027541 turning on bluetooth seemed to work for me for most things. Even though the app doesnt launch it still thinks its in a dock so the problem will continue. My best advice is buy a quality charger. I got a dock charger so it charges upright and that seemed to fix everything. But Im not 100% sure. My other Ideas was that I keep my phone in my pocket at work. Im in construction so I thought sweat may have caused a moisture problem in the phone... gross but just a thought haha
Could also be a bad usb port, causing the phone to think it's docked.
ok i'm still struggling with this. maybe the usb port is going bad i have no idea. that being said is there any possible way to remove car mode all together? its not listed as a separate app in titanium but i imagine there must be a way to remove it.
I had the exact same issue and it turned out to be a bad usb port since it happens to be one of the other issues with certain hw versions.. like b spot on nova screens n excessive light leakage. I would recomend flashing a stock rom n taking it to a sprint repair center for an exchange unless you know a particular that is lenient on rooted phones. Good luck.

just to add to this, try flashing a different rom just for kicks, to see if anything changes.
edit: sorry, I guess this was a couple weeks old
Here's a stab in the wind (unless it only happens when you plug it in). The car mode application also responds to magnetic fields. Are there any magnets near where you usually have this problem? (Wallets and purses often have magnets in them)
Having a wierd issue that started last weekend. My phone acts like the car dock is always "on". Thing is it hasn't been on the phone since I installed the rom and deleted it. Phone always answers or dials out with speaker on. Screen rotates and that is checked off. I went as far as switching to a cm nand same thing. Fresh install of cm, mik, myn and even a plain stock rooted. All exhibit the same behavior. Help. And yes I wiped, format all zip. Went as far as unrooting, s-on and back to a 3.29 or something ruu
So in the unrooted it acted the same way. Rerooted tried cm7 latest nightly fresh install upon first boot its loads into car home. Same with mik4.5. Deleted the app and same behavior.
From my best knowledge it did just start randomly
you try deleteing the car panel apk via root explorer?
Yeah it had been deleted. When the issue first started on cm6.1.2 car home was not even installed on phone. So after that and trying to trouble shoot by flashing various roms the issue still persists

I think you have a problem with your USB port. It is thinking it's connected to a car dock, so it launches the car screen. My gf's EVO had this problem, we took it in to Sprint and they cleaned up the connector and it has been fine ever since. They said this has been a common problem, especially with people that use car chargers. The plug on the end of the USB cable gets crap in it, then gets plugged into the phone.

Cannot find anything on the sdcard related to any car "app"(home or panel), I will go about trying to clean out the charging port tomorrow when I get my hands on some air

Mine was doing that with CM but only when plugged in.
Delete car mode unless you actually use it.

Do you have Titanium back up installed? if not install it, it will be in there.
I don't know the cause of the problem, I had the same exact thing happen to me and I was like WTF?
Even after I deleted it, it still popped up a couple times before I rebooted the phone a few times and it hasn't came up since (about 2 weeks now).

Have you tried to go to settings>applications>running services>choose force stop on maps. ?
So, I just unplugged my phone from the charger and what do you know, car mode enabled lol...you think its something on my sd card maybe??
Ok, I think my phone is possessed! Now, not only does it go into car mode, it disables it and reenables it. So while my phone is off, it turns on with the car mode icon n the notification area, and then turns off and the icon disappears. After a minute it does the whole sequence all over again!! I think the devil lives in my phone and is just f$?!&@ with me....smh
I had the same problem with my Evo wen i first got it..... then one day it just stopped. Mine only did it when I plugged it in though, but it was a good month that it was doing it and like I said it just stopped. Hope the same happens for you.

does it still do that if you freeze car mode apk? Or uninstall it? I saw someone that even with the apk uninstalled it continued but i should think freezing or uninstalling is worth a shot. I'll also ask him if he ever got his fixed...

This car mode issue is caused by a problem with the USB port. It is sensing that it's connected to a car dock, so it launches car mode. You might need to unroot and take your phone into Sprint to get it fixed.

It happens when my phone is not connected to the charger though.
It's a hardware problem with the USB port. Something happens and it always thinks it's connected to a car dock. 2 of my 4 phones have had this problem. Both had to be replaced.

Yes, that's exactly the problem. It senses a car dock connection even when nothing is connected to the USB port.

Recently, I started experiencing a strange problem with my HTC Desire HD. I do not have a car dock, nor have I ever (to my knowledge) docked the phone anywhere. However, the Car Home app starts on boot and restarts if I kill the process. This is really annoying, as the phone seems to think it's docked and all calls start on the speaker and it will not let me change the media volume with headphones plugged in.
It's a rooted phone with CM7 installed on it. The problem started on CM 7.0.0-RC4 (or similar version), but then I flashed CM 7.0.3 using Rom Manager and told it to wipe everything, but the problem still persists.
I also installed Dock Nothingness to try and stop Car Home from starting and I made it the default app for the dock event. Unfortunately, that only resulted in the Car Home app showing on the status bar and starting and stopping but never actually launching. I couldn't find the No Dock trial anywhere I could download it, so I did not try that yet.
Anyone knows why this is happening and how to stop it from doing so?
Any help appreciated

Thanks! Too bad I didn't find that before posting
Also, I plug the phone in to USB at night and tonight it fixed itself without me doing anything. For now. Huh
Anyone else have this problem. You cant press the middle hard button without it returning to the dok mode menu whereby you can't go directly into applications and can only return to the original homescreen by exiting out of everything and starting again going through applications.
so basically you can't multi task at all.
Im also facing the problem that running windows 7 ult 64 bit the pc isn't recognising my device as being there ut only charging it through the pc. This is annoying as to sync things I have to take the cable out the back and put it directly into the phone.
Please help, these are very fundamental issues. thnx
about the syncing bit - if you have the samsung dock, it's normal. it does not allow for sync, only charges the phone. it's an absolute shame, i'll give you that.
since it's specified in the user's manual that it can't sync i suppose the usb plug on that dock isn't even wired for data and that there is no way to go around that limitation. unless someone can fill me with joy by explaining how wrong i am?
wow, i can't believe it doesn't allow sync. this is shambles as i can't use kies air either with windows 7 ult 64 so.....i have to manually put cable directly into my note
or exploit dropbox's 2gb limit for practical day notes and stuff..any other suggestions?
This app is a reasonable workaround: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.megagram.docknoop

Is there no actual way to really deactivate dock mode? I have a phone.apk fc problem when docked and in portrait mode.
I would even cut wires inside dock to get that done!
I hope someone can help me... Its so anoying!
Isn't dock mode tied to Clock.apk? Just mount System/Apps as r/w, rename clock.apk to clock.apk.bak, mount to r/o, and reboot. Blamo, no dock mode. Also, no alarm clock, so download a free one from the play store if you ever want to use one.
Admittedly I don't own the official Samsung dock, but my dock (bought from ebay)has audio out as well.
I don't have issues with syncing (Windows 7 Home 64), except when also connecting to an audio device (speaker or amplifier) at the same time. Then it doesn't connect to the PC either.

WOW, copy cat dock! Thanks for the link, and I ll buy one now.
The docknoop and a few other apps can change the default dock app to go back to home screen and stop dock mode.

Damn!!! This was what I was looking for. Was wondering why no one came out with such a dock. The official dock that is similar to this is almost double the price here in US.
