[Q] HTC Gallery & Duo Camera support from GPe on AOSP ROMs? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can it be done?
It seems you have to run either Sense or GPe to get the HTC Gallery and the UFocus etc. Duo Camera features.
Am I missing something here - why can't these be lifted from the GPe ROMs to work on AOSP ROMs such as PA?
It's obviously harder to lift from Sense due to the libs -- but don't see why it's difficult from GPe to AOSP?
Just curious!

It's still down to libs and proprietary files from HTC. Without them it won't work
Also, questions go in Q&A

Apologies for the forum faux pas!
Sorted by Ghost, however
So it's still difficult to lift these proprietary libs from a GPe ROM to get it working in AOSP then?
I understand lifting from Sense is a lot harder as it's so integrated, but surely GPe & AOSP are a lot more 'compatible'?
Since HTC Gallery is available in the Play Store, and it's essentially this which does the 'Editing' on GPe - another way would be to just get this not spout "Not compatible with your device" when its installed on an AOSP ROM - because it will install! Just not run

GPe still has elements of Sense in it, as it uses Boomsound, Gestures, etc. so there are parts that still need the HTC framework to run so I'm assuming the camera app and the like need it

Well, I've now moved to GPe.
But - HTC Gallery says its Not Compatible in the Play Store.
Whereas, on Paranoid Android, I could at least download it - but when running it, I got a message saying it wasn't compatible.
I thought the HTC Gallery app would allow updated to HTC Photo Edit under GPe ROMs?

It's already built into the ROM. In the camera app, slide to open a picture and then go to 'Edit' and it's in there - you don't use the Gallery app at all

I understand that - but it's not the updated version with the UFocus "blur amount" slider, etc. which was released via the Play Store..
The description in the Play Store says that it only updates the HTC Photo Edit part on GPe, but it won't install to allow it to update.!

Well, I force updated the HTC Gallery app using the APK from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696399 It installs as an update to htc.albun.com which is already installed but doesn't show a Launcher icon. Gallery now appears, but doesn't work - and HTC Photo Edit has disappeared, so removing the option to use UFocus, etc!!
Argh.
So App Info -> Uninstall Updates -- and I'm back to no Gallery icon, but HTC Photo Edit is still callable from Edit on a picture.
Meh.
I'll stop messing now. It'll do!

Does UFocus still work for anyone/everyone? I'm on GPe as well, but my phone hangs on the "Processing..." animation when I tap on UFocus...

[Q] Cyano-sense-mod

Hi Im A Htc Sense Rom User, I Like Sense A Lot especially the links and it lets me stays organized. The Problem Is My Internal Memory Is Small (1.1 gb)
I Tried Cyanogenmod and i liked it a lot
the only thing im missing well everything in htc sense i want the speed of cyanogenmod but i keep on returning to sense roms.
my question is: is there a way i can replace the htc sense stuff in CM?
like the camera
flip to silent
smart dialer
htc widgets
contact linkup or at least to sync my contacts facebook pictures
sense keyboard
please help me i want cyanogenmod so bad but at least replacements for the sense stuff cz the sense rom are big in size ( 250 mb) and cyanogen is small & fast.
Take a closer look at these Apps:
like the camera ---> Camera360
flip to silent ---> LLama
smart dialer --> Contapps
htc widgets --> which? / what are they doing?
contact linkup or at least to sync my contacts facebook pictures --> contapps
sense keyboard --> ThickButtons
How many apps do you have installed? Because if you're filling it up with 1.1GB of apps, you're doing well!
My recommendation is to use a Sense ROM, then use a ROM cleaner script on top to clear out the stuff you don't use, giving you more space. Because Sense is a full framework, not just a few bits and pieces running on top, you are unlikely to find any replacements for Cyanogenmod that work quite as well.
This could be a bit off topic.
Is there anyway I can get the cynogenmod phone.apk to work with Sense?
I'm coming from mid-ranged and low-end phones to the DHD and all of them use phones.apks similar to the cyanogenmod one. It's been over two weeks and I still uncomfortable with Sense phone.apk.

this is what i recommend too, just strip out everything from the rom you dont want and then flash it
rather than starting at the ground up find replacements for everything, start with the finished article and start slimming it down

Well I Will Give You A Suggestion Try To backup the cyanogenmod dialer in titanium backup and restore it in any rom u want. Always backup first if it didnt work try finding something in the market. And i will try this and i will post a link or tell you if another way worked bro.
I went from an HTC hero which was my first android phone to an optimus v, my preferences for replacing most of the sense feeling is launcher pro for the Widgets and go contacts for the smart dialer/contact linkage. There is a patched HTC_ime somewhere on this forum that will install on a non-sense rom but I can't remember where or search it out right now.

Just search HTC IME into Google, first result V27, but it isn't updated anymore. That said, I use it, and it does work very well indeed.

[APP] GoogleApps (GAPPS) 4.2 for your Jelly Bean ROM

GoogleApps (GAPPS) 4.2
download link: http://d-h.st/Khw
just flash zip in recovery mode. ( this zip will replace camera, clock and other stuff from jb 4.1 with stuff from new release 4.2 )
These apps are not mine, i'm only reporting them for the community.
Does photosphere work?
What's working and what's not working on our one x?
What works and doesn't work will depend on what ROM and possibly Kernel you're using.
I just tried on my One X and my Xperia S both running the latest CM10 nightlies.
Everything seems to work on both devices except for Photosphere.
On the Xperia S it just crashes back to the launcher straight away. On the One x the app launches, but as soon as you start to capture the scene, it crashes back to the launcher and the phone gets super hot.
I'm interested to know if Photosphere works for anyone else.
Also, as this replaces the clock app, make sure you set your alarms up again or you'll miss work tomorrow! lol
camera is much better in 4.2
Just about everything is working really well. Camera is incredibly speedy, but photosphere doesn't work.
Also I wouldn't install the calendar from that package, as the one on the play store is more recent.
Everything seems to work nicely even photosphere for me running orio rom
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Were you able to capture an image in photosphere?
So it's safe to say that nothing has changed with photosphere compared to last week - it works on jb sense but not aosp.

All the apps except the camera work perfectly fine and its a really good package. The camera (gallery app) crashes every time it detects a face. This problem exists on every available camera port.
Good job though :good:
Hi, I saw that there was an HDR mode on the 4.2 camera (at the 12oclock) position but this doesnt appear on the camera.
Would that be Nexus 4 specific?
help
can i use these gapps for android revolution jb based? thx

Hey,
Even im running the official CM10 nightly on my HOX. But the cam seems to crash whenever it detects a face. Rest works fine (except the photosphere).
misleading... these are pre 4.2 apps, meaning anything fixed or added after 4.2 final update came out
isn't included. I'm really kind of annoyed.
plans to update?
I'think that similar apps with more information You can find here ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1996876 I thinks this packages are the same check the size of files

Both files have the same checksum, so should be identical.
We'll probably just have to wait for proper gapps to come out.
Is there know if there're a new version which the camera works properly? Thanks

[Q] sense camera app on GPE???

can anyone tell me how to get the htc apps on a gpe rom. I have downloaded a system dump from the stock htc sense 6 rom and moved the apps i wanted into the apps folder on the gpe rom then rebooted but no luck. Is there a rom that already has this. i just want the camera app really from sense.. CAn any1 help me
I dont think this will work. I tried this before on my htc one x with cm. HTC camera is made for sense and as I know it wont work on the GPE. HTC has to make it compatible with other android versions like they did with the gallery and blinkfeed.
Anyway, you can still download htc gallery and the duo camera effects will work fine if thats whats u need.
I believe the Sense camera relies on Sense framework to operate. so no, will not work on GPE.
Their must be some kind of Sense framework though right? So the HTC TV app, motion gestures and some other things work?

Lg apps on custom roms

Hi after using this phone for nearly 3 months I'm in love with the stock apps that lg have.
Will these apps still be installable on aosp?
If you manage to port them or if there are no dependencies, then they will work.

99.9% - No. Only specially hacked versions will be installable, and they will be bugged. Unfortunately, they require entire LG framework in order to function - qslide framework, double window framework, Quick Remote framework, QCircle framework...
Guess I'm going to stick to the lg software then.
I hate the aosp dialers.
Not bothered about qslide double Windows qcircle
Just messaging and dialers qmemo
going to look into upgrading to th s3v3n android hd mod and see how that pans out

HTC app on sense 8...where are they?

Hi there!
As far as U have seen, HTC 10 is a hyge hardware device but it comes with only standard Google apps pre-installed. So HTC Sense interface is basically disappeared from the phone.
Considering how much better HTC apps are compared to Google standard apps, it's a huge shame having such a great phone on hardware level running on standard google base system. People have always had hate for custom interface but they don't know what are they saying if they consider everything as a third-party apps, the evil. There are 2 different situations, one thing is customisation of network operator which install useless and buggy application, another thing is manufacturer applications, which in the case of HTC, have always been better than the standard Google applications since the beginning of android. So having no HTC apps on the sense 8 is a great loss. My question is: it will still possible to install all HTC apps on the play store of sense interface on the new sense 8?
By the way I have an HTC One M9+ Supreme Camera and I'm currenlty on sense 7 and android 5, well if sense 8 will be with google standard apps only, I hope that the update to Android 6.0 for my device will keep sense 7.0 interface. I want to use HTC apps.
I think this is a welcomed change. Simpler, faster updates, faster phone... But I do think I saw somewhere that you could install the applications from the play store. Worst case just port them over, there are so many mods that allows you to port to other phones I bet it would be easy to move it over to the 10.

I think that if you go looking to the quality of HTC apps compared to standard google apps, there is no match. If someone want a standard and free Android interface, then buy a nexus phone which is excellent. If I buy an HTC, I want a customized Android experience, at least this is my opinion. Having to struggle with MOD it's second hand option and also if HTC won't develop its apps in the future it would be impossible to do.

That's your opinion, I see very little to no difference. If this is a deal breaker for you, protest... and buy from LG or samsung. I find the google versions are more than adequate for all I need. I love that more manufacturers are going to this style, faster updates and a more streamline approach. They can add their best features to the device and keep it fast. Give it time before you protest them, you may like the change. If not you have 14 days
Well, on HTC One M8 running HTC 10 ported ROM I could easily download all the missing HTC apps from the Play Store. So, no actual difference from Sense 7 roms.
Maybe on the real HTC 10 your experience will be different.
you know if you have the apks of the older apps you can still install them right?

I suppose that it depends...if the apps has been ported to the current version of Android... and this is something that HTC have to do.

Yes it's my opinin but I still think that if you want standard google interface you can buy a Nexus or maybe HTC can realese the Google edition phone like it did in the past.
By the way I have recently swtich from an HTC One S with sense 4 to an HTC One M9+ Supreme Camera and sense 7 (also blinkfeed is nice) but I do miss some widgets from HTC (like gallery widget, bookmark widget and colored meteo widget).

It was a business decision and sadly if you hate it then you'll have to keep you M9 or buy something else. Some of us are excited about it and who knows you may grow to love it. Or maybe they will regret it and put it back in an update.
As far as some reviews said it will still be possible to download all HTC Apps from PlayStore and thus install them on the new HTC 10. In fact it is wrong that they are better than the respective Google Apps, as they are just GUI modded Google Apps.
Only App I wouldn't download is HTC Gallery App, as I read that it interferes with the new HTC Camera App, as the later one has been optimized to work with Google Pictures App.

I don't understand people sometimes. This information has been a talking point of almost every general review of the new phone. It took OP longer to ask here and wait for an answer then to just Google it! Save yourself some time and Google it first.

Google Photos, in my opinion, is only good for photo editing. A standalone gallery is sorely missing from Android. Hell, I still use a pre-CM owned version of QuickPic instead of Google Photos.
