Stock Android - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

My Nexus 5 screen is cracked and I found a Note 3 for the same price of a new Nexus 5. I don't like TouchWiz and was wondering if I can put vanilla Android on it. If so, what are the disadvantages? Would I get updates just like the Nexus 5?

Root and flash an aosp Rom like slim or cm11. the only disadvantages to this is you trip Knox and nfc does not work. You won't get updates like the nexus line but when the developers put out an update you can just flash the new update.

I could have sworn Knox was tripped on my wife's Note 3, but then I installed Xposed and it fixed it and she was able to update.
What features would I be missing? Would the camera still be just as good? I know there's an s-pen app out, so I could still use that.

Anyone else? Should I just get the Nexus 5 again?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Xposed will not fix the Knox flag.

Well, you would lose all the TouchWiz features. I don't know about the camera quality since I haven't used it but I haven't seen people complaining.

Okay, well I followed a tutorial and my wife's phone is rotor and Knox isn't tripped so she's able to download updates OTA.

If it is rooted, why would you want to get an OTA? That won't really work or will end up unrooting the phone.

Good question, I just know I was able to do an OTA update and SuperUser is still installed along with other apps that require rooting.
Are you running stock android on the Note 3?

Just checked with Root Checker and it's not rooted anymore. But still has SU installed and a few other apps.

So you never reset knox as you previously stated.

I will say that this is one of the ONLY phones that I ever thought about NOT romming but I doubt I will be able to hold back if something really good comes out...Hello, I am Justin, I am a flashaholic!
GOTTA have root access though... Can't have any company telling me what I HAVE to keep on my phone! :good:
My exact same thoughts. I only rooted to get rid of the bloat. Quick question though. ... im a little nervous... would I still be able to update if tmobile decides to push one even though im rooted?

I hope not to also but when a new version of android comes out and no update from the carrier then flashing seems like the only option..

Should get rid of CarrierIQ at least =/

Deff agree on that one. But alas, i will miss alot of the OG functions from touchwiz on this phone. Although with GN1, they found work arounds for it. Especially S Note.
My plan is to root as late as I can to avoid messing things up. I figure we won't see an update for a few weeks and by then all the bugs that come along with rooting a phone should be worked out. I really enjoy this phone and can, surprisingly, wait on rooting.

I know when I rooted that if I go to check for a software update it says it won't do it on a modified device so I am pretty sure we won't get OTA's through the rooted devices but you can just wait for someone to post the updated OTA and flash that and your good to go!
Or do you still have stock recovery?
Only rooted for bloat and spyware removal and a nice kernel. But im only flashing stock TW based roms!

Unfortunately no since both of the other Tab 3 variants use different CPUs. Think at this point it may be some time before anything gets going on the 10.1. I'm not really sure what the stigma is here it seems to be a pretty good performing tablet would be nice to have root to remove the bloatware and make better.

I don't think that it's necessarily a dead device just need someone to actually take a look at it instead of believing that theirs nothing good about it. From what I've seen so far it seems to have good battery life and not half bad in performance either and contrary to what I've seen in the reviews the GFX performance it actually also very good as well it beats my TF700 pretty solidly though resolution may be a factor there.

[Q] Root for 4.3?

I'm getting some conflicting information and just wanted to get it straight.
I've been told by someone whom I think is reputable that it is possible to gain root after taking the 4.3 update.
I know from the Rumrunner S-off thread that S-off is not achievable yet but that doesn't necessarily mean rooting is impossible.
Can someone set me straight here? Is it possible to root 4.3 but still be S-on?
Thanks.

When the phone first came out you could unlock the bootloader at htcdev, but that lasted 1 day. I'm unaware of any ways to root without rumrunner.

I was under the impression one could root provided the phone was still running 4.2. In that case rumrunner would work. However I didn't think there was any way to root 4.3. Not go s-off, just root.

4.4.3 Update on the way

I know there are numerous members including myself, that have updated to KK 4.4.2, and just experienced nothing but crap, in comparison to 4.3, which we cannot go back to. But, luckily there is a Galaxy Note 3/Galaxy S4/Nexus 5 god somewhere. They have heard our complaints about the srewed-up update released, and are currently working on the fix, which will be named 4.4.3. This update will fix numerous issues, involving the most talked about, camera and data drops......ps. connection drops, etc. I've read they are currently testing the update, so in other words, they jumped right on it. I hqve been suffering from the 4.4.2 sickness every since the update, wishing I could, or someone find a way to go back to 4.3. I just recently updated my Galaxy S 4, not aware of the troubles, but didnt run full testing method to ensure that I respected the update. I just immediately fell In love with the smoothness and speed, unaware of the crap under the covers. And then I got bold and updated my Beast of Hardware, the Note 3...........and was overwhelmed by the lack of tlc of the update. But threw all the rebooting, the battery pulls, the waiting for sitez to load, the non responsive buttons, they are working to fix this horrible experience. Thanks you Android for wasting time, but at least aorking to fix the problems. Upon release of the fix, I cant wait to see the sweetness the Dev's bring to the table with the new OS fix.
