[Q] Root for 4.3? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

I'm getting some conflicting information and just wanted to get it straight.
I've been told by someone whom I think is reputable that it is possible to gain root after taking the 4.3 update.
I know from the Rumrunner S-off thread that S-off is not achievable yet but that doesn't necessarily mean rooting is impossible.
Can someone set me straight here? Is it possible to root 4.3 but still be S-on?
Thanks.

When the phone first came out you could unlock the bootloader at htcdev, but that lasted 1 day. I'm unaware of any ways to root without rumrunner.

Thanks.
I was under the impression one could root provided the phone was still running 4.2. In that case rumrunner would work. However I didn't think there was any way to root 4.3. Not go s-off, just root.

Yea, I had this phone s-off but I returned to stock to have the camera repaired so I got stuck on 4.3. I had a Verizon replacement but decided to keep this phone since it was perfect after the camera repair...glad I did! Can't wait to get s-off again.

Hopefully it won't require anything like the "wire trick" on the Rezound Don't really want to go through that again. Still, really looking forward to ridding myself of all the bloat.

Firewater will be posted when it's done. I believe it will root 4.3. I had a one on 4.3 never used it but for a day and realized the reception was horrible and so I called Verizon and complained and they sent me this one that is 4.2 now which I rooted.

No there isn't one. Maybe you should wait for someone that really needs to unlock. It would suck bad to lose root over that. I've seen people lose root doing stuff like that before is why I don't advise it.

Yeah thats a good idea. I know there are members here with a stock s on phone with 4.3 so I should wait. I always ruu back to stock and root again after messing with my phone a lot, like changing cid to run a Google edition ruu, stuff like that. Done it twice on 4.2 with no issues.

Someone confirmed it works for 4.3 so root away.

Lol have at it.

So I ran firewater temp root, and it said everything was good to go.
However, I do not seem to have root access -- I tried Root Checker app and TWRP Manager.
Am I missing a step here? I'm running 4.3 OTA.
Thanks.

Flash a custom recovery and then a Rom of your choice. Twrp should mention if you have root or not.

Just tell insurance you flashed something to it and now it doesn't work. It's not like warranty replacement, with insurance you can get it fixed no matter what you decided to do, so its not illegal. If you want to call insurance feel free to tell the truth

Learned my lesson with the erris.
I think your best shot is to see if there's anyone near you who's willing to let you borrow their XTC clip. You could buy one but they are rather expensive. Good luck.
What is an xtc clip? I have herd of this but I dunno what it is or how to use it. Pardon my HTC noobness! I had a fascinate.

Are you sure this is even because of 2.3? I flashed it. So I'm kinda concerned now.

A XTC clip is a piece of hardware that can change bootloader security to s-off allowing you to flash custom roms or in your case return your phone to its stock state.

Like the posting above says, re-do the RUU exe that you used the first time.
After that, take out battery, and restart with volume down and power, then
do a factory reset. After you activate the phone with VZN, it ought to be OK.
Well I didn't have much time to mess with it today, but this evening i formatted the phone twice, and you want to know what fixed it, turning back on auto rotation and then back of again...then magically the screen was letting me type normal again...
But now I'm annoyed seeing cm7 out for this phone, with no way to root the leaked gb rom..
We need s off and root for this phone and the gb leak asap.....

TRUST ME,
your problem is not the leaked RUU.
It's as stable as can be.
it's a hardware issue and you should just file an warranty claim with vz, don't tell them about anything upgraded unless they ask.
The more i use this leaked RUU, the more i believe it's as close to an official to be released build as possible.

[Q] To the Revolutionary Team

First off I want to say thank you to everyone on this team for being able to get S-OFF for the majority of our phones. My question now since S-OFF is only temporary for the recent exploit of HTC Evo 4g 2.16.001, how would we or can we get S-On in case the phone has to be returned in the future for whatever reason. I have not seen RUU or drivers, many inquiring minds do want to know.
Thanks fellas.

Just because Sprint may service the phone might not mean that your warranty will cover it. That's why people would like to turn it back to S-ON before having the phone serviced.

I'd love to know how this goes. I think I want to do the same thing. I'd rather just use freegee to re-lock it, then re-root after doing the JB update. However, if flashing the radios and then the stock rooted JB update is better then I'd do that. In fact I think that is the same steps as going with lifeless from ZV9 and if that is the case I may do that. Still, I'd love to know if this works while I try and figure out to go with Lifeless or Rooted Stock JB.

Very strange. Well, there's still a few options.
1. See if Sprint will swap it out. :/
2. Manually push the update.
3. autoprime and Shelnutt2 just put out a zvb.bin. You can get it from the irc for now. And make sure to follow the directions in the last post of my guide. It had to be modified to get it unlocked.

[Q] Likelihood that 4.3 update blocks Rumrunner?

I don't think beaups mentioned it, or at least he said he wasn't concerned about releasing it which lead to his quick release.
Personally curious as to how sense on 4.3 will be. But wouldn't want the update if its blocked unlocking.

why take the OTA? if you have s-off why not just flash a 4.3 rom?
This my friend only matters for those that bought a phone after 4.3 is released... First... Soff and unlocked and rooted should NEVER take an ota, cause it could (prob just fail) brick you... Second, if you like stock, I'm sure it will be only a matter of hours before someone releases a flashable HTC stock ROM that will update you... Really, as long as you put cwm recovery on your phone, and only flash Roms thought it, you have nothing to worry about whatsoever...

4.4.3 Update on the way

I know there are numerous members including myself, that have updated to KK 4.4.2, and just experienced nothing but crap, in comparison to 4.3, which we cannot go back to. But, luckily there is a Galaxy Note 3/Galaxy S4/Nexus 5 god somewhere. They have heard our complaints about the srewed-up update released, and are currently working on the fix, which will be named 4.4.3. This update will fix numerous issues, involving the most talked about, camera and data drops......ps. connection drops, etc. I've read they are currently testing the update, so in other words, they jumped right on it. I hqve been suffering from the 4.4.2 sickness every since the update, wishing I could, or someone find a way to go back to 4.3. I just recently updated my Galaxy S 4, not aware of the troubles, but didnt run full testing method to ensure that I respected the update. I just immediately fell In love with the smoothness and speed, unaware of the crap under the covers. And then I got bold and updated my Beast of Hardware, the Note 3...........and was overwhelmed by the lack of tlc of the update. But threw all the rebooting, the battery pulls, the waiting for sitez to load, the non responsive buttons, they are working to fix this horrible experience. Thanks you Android for wasting time, but at least aorking to fix the problems. Upon release of the fix, I cant wait to see the sweetness the Dev's bring to the table with the new OS fix.
