[Q] Is there a root counter - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title goes I'm wondering if there is a counter which is triggered when root and can not be reversed when unroot.
Its the only thing that stops me (and I suppose I'm not the only one) from rooting in order to debloat & freeze some stuff.

Can root and unroot without issue on this device, no counter that I am aware of. I have gone back to Stock a couple of times now.

Thank you for your answer.
The thing is that I worry for any future update (international D855 is my variant). What / if we realize then that actually there is a counter.
I know it sounds as metaphysics but its just pure ignorance on my behalf.

Go to dialer and digit 3845#*855#, tap to "LG RCT", tap "display Result...this is root counter.

There isn't a binary count like on Samsung phones ,at least I haven't seen one yet.

If so, this counter goes back to default value when unroot or showing something that means the phone had been rooted?

On the G2 was always, even after a hard reset or reflashing the firmware. I do not know the G3...i did not root.

Thanks for the code (it seems very helpful): my display result is "Not rooted".
Now that we have an anchor we need the same info from a G3 user who unroot or went back to stock...

Hey,
I entered the 845#*855# code and now im in the hidden menu but I'm stuck there?
The phone is very slow and doesn't respond to anything I do. I even unplugged the batteries for a few minutes but it always boots up in the AAT mini OS 3.1 hidden menu.
When I press Normal Boot (+power) or any other options nothing happend but only red crosshairs appear?
How can I reset my phone now???

I tapped the code but nothing like that happened. After I check for root I just went back & and back again on my dial.
Is your phone a 855 (as in the hidden menu) or a 400 variant?
Other than that I can't think of.

digit 855 for european model, 400 for the Corea

Probably if you run root with Geohot app the counter does not write rooted or reset after hard reset...i do not know...on the Galaxy S5 with Geohot app the Knox contour does not advance.

Thanks for the reply. It would be good to have an answer from an owner who rooted already - better still if returned to stock for some reason.
I'll wait for a while before I try it myself reading about the two alternatives for rooting I came across in this forum.

It doesn't change it when you go back to stock. I had performed a factory reset and it still shows the time and date of my first root.

Did you unroot via su? You could try to reflash a factory image.

Sorry for the intervention, may I ask if your question means that the method you proposed to unroot can change also the result in the hidden menu concerning root?

only way around seams a complete restore try doing this
I don't have the links to the tread where I got these from but lets just hope I don't get banned.
1) go to download mode
2) install this and download the correct .kdz file for your phone
-Modelnumber is ...
-serial number is your imei number
- wait until the download is done
3) run the lgflashtool2014.exe from this zip
-Select type= cdma
-phone mode= Diag
-reset time=33000
-Should be like this when You run it
-select kdz file= is where you need to find the kdz file you just downloaded(step 1)
-then press cse flash
-in the now pop-up window select start
-select your language
-ignore error (cannot connect to lg server)
-check progress on phone up to 100% then boots in recovery installs and restarts
-wait untill it goes to the welcom screen then you can unplug
-now the most inportant step Like my post
to enter download mode do this:
--You must switch off the device to start the process.
--Then press and hold the “Volume Up” and connect the USB cable from phone to PC.
--Use the original USB cable. Because, other device’s cable may not be detected in the Computer. So, only we recommend it to use the original-- one that you got it when you bought the phone.
--Wait for the driver installation on PC.
--Then you will get the download mode screen in your phone.
--That’s it.

Help With Bell LG Optimus LTE

I just updated my LTE to the official Bell Mobility ICS software, I rooted it and was in the process of deleting bloatware and i accidentally deleted SystemUI.apk. Thus leading to a crash and now my phone is stuck on the LG screen with security error underneath. Can someone please help me get my phone working again.
Thanks.
You're going to have to go through the unbricking guide since you definitely just bricked your phone.
You can try doing a factory reset if it lets you. Not sure if it lets you in that situation though.
When device is completely off, hold power button and volume down button for 5-10 seconds. Then press power button twice to confirm.
He deleted SystemUI.apk. Even if that didn't trigger LG's secure boot error, it would be in an endless bootloop that only *might* be recoverable if adb still managed to function and he had root permissions. His only option is to unbrick, which is fortuitous in a way because it will allow him to install a proper recovery that can prevent this from happening in the future.
I just did the same thing, only I deleted Google Play Books. Holy **** is this ROM ever loaded with useless crap.
Press Volume Up + insert USB cable to access download mode. You should be able to unbrick using this.
Instead of using titanium backup to uninstall the bloatware... you need to freeze it (requires titanium backup pro)

Can't you just disable all the bloatware applications using Google's built-in method? You don't even need root to do that. And it's safer than using apps like Titanium Backup which will actually modify the system partition.
This is assuming LG hasn't removed the ability to disable apps.
Then again, I'm not sure what Google's method does. I assume it doesn't modify the system partition directly but I am not sure.

What method are you talking about? Hiding an app in the app tray? It does not exist in this version... and the built in lg "App manager" only lets you remove a single app... leaves a lot more junk untouched.

I'm talking about going to System settings > Apps > Select a preloaded app > click Disable. If the app has been updated, you have to do "Uninstall updates" first for it to show up.
I don't know if LG has changed how this all works though.
I was worried i was going to have to do that. I have no idea what i am supposed to do. That whole process has me lost. Do you think it is possible to bring it in to a local repair shop and maybe they can do it? I just don't want to mess it up anymore then it is.

I just unbricked it following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784709
Just follow the steps carefully.
Have you tried running the Bell ICS installer again while the phone is in download mode? (To get to download mode, turn phone completely off, then hold down volume up button while inserting the USB cable. Don't press power button; phone should turn itself on.)
I think that's all you need to do to get it back up and working.

Ah, I figured I was forgetting something. LG's tools are frustrating. I don't really see the point in preventing you from reflashing a ROM.
Yes, you can force it -- that's actually what the unbricking guide does, basically. So I guess you will have to follow the unbricking guide process, except use the Bell ICS KDZ file when doing it (and stop after you finish flashing the KDZ). The KDZ can be downloaded here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30177420&postcount=1

Tried that and nothing happened. I'm just assuming that the battery is dead because normally (correct me if I'm wrong) when the three buttons flash it means your battery is dead. And I have been doing some research and it seems that the phone will not charge in download mode. So I have it plugged into the wall to see if it powers up (taking an awful long time though).

Yeah, I've never let my phone get that low, but supposedly it takes a while for it to get high enough to stop doing that. I'd let it charge for a few hours to make sure it's high enough to not die on you again.
I just upgraded to Bell ICS ,but when the upgrade finished, my phone displayed the LG logo (like it would when you turn on the phone) for an hour......
not sure what to do as i have left the phone for a long time and nothing has happened, any suggestions??
Thanks for all the solutions from everyone. After many hours i have successfully "unbricked" my Optimus. My phone would not charge for 3+ hours and eventually got completely stuck in download mode. But I ran windows enabler and small server and after 50 or so tries the kdz update tool finally took my phone and updated it to the point prior to bricking.

[Q] Nexus will not start up

First of all, I'd like to apologize if I'm breaking any forum rules. I just hastily made this account because I did something stupid and I need your help.
I rooted my Nexus 7 a few days ago, and it all went well. While looking through root apps on the Play store today, I found a font switcher. It looked alright, so I figured I'd download it. I picked out a font, hit install, and the device rebooted as I would expect. It showed the Google logo, as well as the padlock icon, and then went to the "X" as per usual. However, it stayed on that screen for quite a while and would not start up. The bootloader menu still works, but I can't really do much with it. I'm afraid I had USB debugging turned off as well. Please help, I don't have a clue what to do and I don't want to have it permanently bricked less than a month after buying it. Thank you in advance.
P.S. You'll have to explain the terms to me, rooting is sort of a new area for me.

I wouldn't mind doing it, but I can't as I can only access the bootloader menu and I don't have any recovery programs installed.
I'm not very familiar with stock recovery (assuming that's what you have. I've never seen the stock recovery since I wiped stock off my tab as soon as I could). But doesn't it have a factory reset option ? (I thought I saw that on my old N7 when it was still on stock form)
Edit: you can get to stock recovery from the bootloader menu. Just use volume up/down to rotate thru menu options and hit power to select.

I tried entering recovery mode and I got an error icon, then after a while it just rebooted.
Is your tab OK now ?
Don't worry too much, it's very difficult to "brick" a N7.
You may look at this tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389107
It's easy to do many things.
The hardest part would be to get your PC to fully recornize your tab (which you're there, since you rooted the tab).
If you don't mind losing data, you can just flash stock back from fastboot. If you want to try factory resetting, you can flash a recovery image from fastboot, then reset from there. Fastboot is done from the bootloader.

Need Help with Bricked SCH-I435 [SOLVED]

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I added a few build.prop tweaks to my Verizon SCH-I435 S4 mini and apparently it did not like it.
Now it will not boot past S4 mini screen.
The phone is rooted via kingo, xposed framework installed with Wanam tweaks
Everything is stock with some bloatware frozen via My backup Pro.
I did do a system dump prior to these issues, so I do have the stock build.prop
Any one know of a way to replace the build.prop?
You probably didn't give build.prop the right permissions when you replaced it. That's the worst I could think you can do if that's what you did just fix if you have access and try again.

Cant boot, Just will have to wait for firmware.
Tried everything I can.
Have you tried putting the phone is safe mode? I'm not positive it will work but its supposed to put all settings back to stock temporarily. To enter safe mode remove and reinsert battery then push and hold the volume down and power button until phone boots to the home screen. You must hold the volume and power completely through both the Verizon and Samsung boot screens otherwise the phone with try to boot as normal.

Yeah its that build.prop is it 755 permissions? I think if I had your phone I'd unbrick it. Your build.prop is what's causing it in my opinion. A brick is a completely dead device you're soft bricked it turns on? You're golden if you fix that build.prop I'd say.

Odin is pretty easy the file goes in pda. I suggest using Kies to restore your phone. Should be easy as plugging in and choosing to restore it. Soft brick? That needs to be explained more.

I figured it out. A simple Google search for "how to flash with Odin" and some careful selection did the trick.
By "soft bricked", I mean that the phone would power on and display the Samsung logo but, beyond that, it was useless.
Switching to download mode, flash stock firmware and rebuilding my settings solved it.
what?

Question about tmobile G95TUVU3DOI1

Hi, I'm kinda new to rooting android phone.I just got a galaxy s6 edge from tmobile and I would lIke to root the phone. Searching around the forum but still doesn't ubderstand how's it work. So I got a galaxy s6 edge, baseband version G95TUVU3DOI1, come with 5.1.1 SMG 925T. Question is if I'm root the phone will i able to restore back to stock firmware, will tmobile able to find out if I rooted or not? Because I'm in Jump! Program and plan to switch new phone next year. And its there any easy step by step guide to root the phone. I don't really care about Samsung pay, would like to have fingerprint sensor if possible. Thank you
Before you do anything, understand that you WILL TRIP KNOX AND BREAK SAMSUNG PAY. Also, it is your choice to modify your device and this process seems to work differently for differnt people, so if anything happens, it's on you. However, there are several threads here that can help you if anything goes wrong
Okay, make a backup of all your stuff on SmartSwitch
You're going to want to download ODIN 3.10.7 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711451
Then you're going to want to download UniKernel v8 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...d-development/kernel-stockmod-kernel-t3100395
Open ODIN on your computer and don't touch anything yet
Then you're going to put your phone into download mode by turning it off, then holding POWER+VOL DOWN+HOME until a blue screen appears.
Press VOL UP to enter download mode and connect your phone to your computer with the cable that came with your phone
Wait for the little box at the top left to turn blue
On ODIN, click the AP button and locate the UniKernel v8 file that you downloaded before
Once you've found it, double click it to fill in the AP field with the file
Click START and do not touch anything until it's done.
Your phone will restart and once it comes back up, you'll be rooted. It can take several minutes for it to fully boot, so give it time.
Now, this is optional, but if you want a custom recovery to flash custom ROMS, download TWRP onto your computer from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...recovery-twrp2-8-6-0-g925t-5-1-1-of6-t3143002
Flash that file through ODIN using the same process as you used to flash UniKernel.
This recovery will let flash custom ROMs. I recommend XstreStoLite as it is very good on battery life, but you will not be able to use WiFi calling or VOLTE. You can download it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...xtrestolite-deodexed-mod-edition-1-3-t3119968
Let me know how it goes.

Yes. There is a small chance, but the method I described is the exact same method I used on my device and I've had no issues. Even if you do, there is almost a 0% chance of a hard brick unless you touch something you're not supposed to touch, and if you do soft brick, there are a few threads here that should be able to help. More than likely flashing stock firmware will fix any problems you have.

i need help too. i am trying to use smart switch as my last resort but its not working(ish). after installing the factory firmware it says the device will restart, unplug and plug it again. on the phone it reset itself and then with the green android logo saying installing system then 1/3 of the loading bar it just says erasing then blacked out then back on bootloop. i can still boot to recovery mode and download mode.

Where are you getting the firmware from? What version of ODIN are you using? What port are you using in ODIN to flash the firmware?
There is a Mega download of the DOI1 firmware somewhere around here. I recommend downloading that and flashing using the AP port in ODIN 3.10.7, using the cable that came with your phone. This is the exact method I used to return to stock with no issues.

Stuck on "Google" screen

I was using my phone like I usually do, and then it suddenly froze. So I held down the power button, forcing it to restart. Ever since, the screen only shows "Google" for a while, then becomes blank; no booting animation. It would restart itself occasionally.
I tried booting into recovery mode by holding Power+VolDown, and selecting "recovery mode". For the first few tries, it would go back to the Google screen, the turn blank. After giving it a break and trying again, I finally got to the "no command" screen, and I wiped the cache partition. Sadly, I'm still having the same problem.
Is this a bootloop? How can I fix this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This happened to me and Google sent a replacement phone. However the replacement phone is a refurbished phone that suffers from ghost touches Now trying to get a replacement for the replacement.

What's that? Is it the screen that comes up when you hold down Power+VolumeDown and gives you the option to select Start, Power Off, Restart Bootloader, or Recovery?

Yes that's the one. If u can get back to that screen you should be able to flash it back stock and re root the phone with out any problems

So are you saying that I should factory reset my phone from the recovery menu, or do I have to use the method that requires the factory image?
My phone wasn't rooted btw, so I can't re-root it.

haha it's ok you tried to.
Rooted or not, do you think factory resetting it will fix the problem as long as I can get to the bootloader menu?

In pretty positive that it will, make sure u unlock the Bootloader first before you do anything. Do you know how to unlock it?

The bootloader allows the phone to be unlocked to flash custom ROMs on it, without it unlocked you'll brick your phone. Read up about rooting your phone first so you can get the idea of what goes into it before attempting it. Once you get the general idea of unlocking the phone and flashing things on it, it becomes relatively easy. There's even a nexus root toolkit on this forum that you can download on your computer for free as well as "how-to's" for doing it

Wait...what?? So if I choose to factory reset my phone now without unlocking the bootloader, it might become completely useless? Is rooting necessary?

No is not necessary, but in order to re flash the factory image to fix the problem the bootloader must be unlocked. You never have to root your device but having a unlocked bootloader is essential to flashing anything on your device other wise like I said, you'll brick your phone. You can even lock it back to full stock once you've re flashed the image.
Edit: there's another way of flashing the factory image but it requires some searching. You might not be able to do it the way I'm explaining to you Because you would have to give it permission to be unlocked in the developers option while the phone is booted up and operative

Oh...I see. So what about the factory reset option in the recovery menu? Would you expect that to fix it too?

When u first bought your phone and it takes you through the set up window, when it asked you to put in your email, that right there backs up all your apps that you previously had in the phone so when you go through the setup again, it's going to ask you if you want to start as a new phone or recover your previous apps. You won't be able to recover all of your data but you should be able to recover all of your apps.

Alright, but since all my data won't be recovered, is there a way to get access to files on my phone before I factory reset it?

Sorry bro but I wish there was.... There actually is away, but you would have have to have been rooted with a custom recovery on your phone and since you had neither, there's my other way
Edit: I meant no other way
