Voice Input on LG Keyboard - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know how to get voice input on the LG Keyboard? I have added it in the menu but the handwriting pencil appears instead. I do not want to use LG Voice over Google TTS. I hope there is a way to activate this because I kinda like this keyboard.

Did you find out how to fix it? I have the same problem...

Anybody?

Am I really the only one with this problem ?

On my Verizon g3 I have a gear icon to the left of the space bar. Long press it and select voice input.

I have no microphone under after pressing on the gear, that's the problem.
I have checked with another keyboard (Swiftkey) and the voice input works like a charm! So my problem obviously comes from the LG Keybpard itself... But what??

Anyone??? :crying:

Galaxy S3 Sprint Text Messaging no voice?

If anyone can help, I can't believe I can't figure this out.
On my old HTC Evo, when replying to a text message, you can
press the microphone button and speak to text then send it.
On my new GSIII, the keyboard has a setting option to see the
microphone speak icon on the keyboard. I have it checked and
I can NOT see the microphone icon or input button using voice?
Is this a rom problem that needs update, or am I missing something
here? How do I get the mic button to show on texting to use voice?
Thanks, and I am rooted but stock rom/kernel. Rom manager also
does not work for me, says I need to install clockwork recovery,
but when I rooted it, it did. Also Rom manager doesn't have GSIII
in its list yet.
Belongs in Q&A.

Sorry about the wrong forum.
But thanks a million, I was just pressing the gear.
I've had android for a year and never knew you
can LONG press the gear and get more options,
the mic shows up now!
No problem. Usually buttons that have, the 3 little dots on them, have different settings or do different actions.
I know this is an old thread, but I seem to be having the same issue...
EXCEPT, when I long press the gear I do not have the microphone as an option. the voice input option is checked in settings, any suggestions?
I'm on FreeGS3 v0.2.0 if that makes any difference

I had the same problem with voice-to-text with the stock keyboard and the stock Swype... The icon was there, but it would error out. I installed the latest Swype Beta and its working again.
I'm running FreeGS, too.

4.2 Keyboard Voice button

Does anyone know what happened to the voice input button in the new 4.2 keyboard? Seems to be gone and I can't find a way to bring it back in the settings.

There is no voice input key option in neither Google voice typing settings nor in the Swype keyboard settings.
I'm talking about the actuall android keyboard settings above the Google voice typing

These are the settings I have on Language and Input
"Google Voice Typing" Only settings in here are "Blocking offensive words" and for downloading speech recognition for when offline.
"Samsung Keyboard" Here I can check off "Voice Input" to "Show voice entry button on keyboard" but I am not using the Samsung Keyboard
"Swype" No settings here to enable Voice button.
Above these settings I can set Default keyboard and Language. Just went through the rest and didn't see a voice input button. Do you have the 4.2 keyboard with the button on it?
I believe that you tap/hold the setting button next to the space bar. I was also able to get to it by pressing the Settings button next to the Android Keyboard in Settings>Language and input. You might have to select Show settings key there first.

You need to make sure you have Android Keyboard installed. None of those you mentioned are exactly the same.

[Q] what happened to voice input?

Is there voice input apart from S Voice? I have tried a couple of other keyboards (including, of course the Google keyboard) and there is no mic icon to be found. I have scoured the menus, including the developers menu, finding nothing that would enable voice input or voice typing. Really perplexing and frustrating omission of a feature. I am running rooted and stock. Any ideas how/if it can be done? Thanx.
Samsung Keyboard has the Samsung Voice
Swype has it's Dragon key for voice input
You can also Select while typing Google Voice Input (not really a button but it is not really a keyboard either).
sorry, I don't understand...

Are you saying there is a way to get voice input? I do not know what the dragon key is. ?? I do not understand your last comment either. Sorry if I sound like a doof or something. I am fairly adept at setting up these phones but this issue just eludes me. Could you explain it to me like I was a 4 year old?

Yes.
You can select whatever keyboard you have loaded by selecting the keyboad symbol when you swipe down from the top.
Four Images...
1) Samsung Standard keyboard has a mic button
2) If you load Swype, they have what they call Dragon Talk which is the flame looking key on the right.
3) If when selecting input device (The keyboard at the top) and select Google Voice Type, you get
4) which is ready to listen to your text. It's not really a keyboard but can be used regardless of what keyboard you have selected.
Thanks

Thanks for taking the time to reply with attachments. I just downloaded Swype/Dragon and surprisingly the voice input works! However I still have no 'mic' button in Samsung or Google keyboards. Strange. Any ideas? I am happy to use the Swype but I would like to figure why that feature is not working in the other two keyboards.

make sure voice typing is selected in language and inputs under your settings.
on your keyboard if you have a 3rd party keybard to the left of the keyboards space bar (the one with the 3 lil dots on it) hold the button down until the button shows more options. One of them is the mic. the button will default to whatever that last selection is.
I get what you're saying...
The problem is there is no selection in settings to activate voice typing. Also on the Samsung keyboard, pressing the button to the left of the space bar only yields the options shown in the screen shots below. Again thanks for your input and assistance.

Oh in that case, you need to install Google search, will automatically install the voice and GNow features.
Thanks
Yep, that did it. Thank you. Pretty lame that this isn't a feature of the OS itself, but hey we're talking Google... Thank so much to all who have contributed to the solution.

After reading the answer here about 'holding' down the gear, i was able to fix it.. Thank goodness for you guys. You are a great tech help.

Want to use Google Now instead of Voice Mate - Possible?

I am a motorcycle rider and recently switched to LG G4 from iPhone 6. I would be a happy camper if I had something on par with siri. I have a bluetooth (SENA) headset installed in my helmet. I need the ability to activate Google Now so that I can say things like "Navigate to _____," "Call _______," Read my messages, etc. etc.
Voice Mate doesn't work. I hit the button and nothing happens...it ends up getting locked up or something.
Is there a way to use Google Now when i click the button on my bluetooth device?
Why would LG even feature Voice Mate over Google Now when it is SO FAR BEHIND. Makes zero sense not to give us the option to use the Google feature on a google phone (the reason I end up always going back to apple...)
You're trying to activate Google Now with the screen off?
As far as I know, GN does not activate with the screen off unless it's plugged into a charging device. You can see this from the settings --> voice --> "OK Google" detection. I am unaware of how Voice Mate works, since I disabled it from the start.
Does the iPhone allow you to activate Siri while screen's off?
Yeah there's a voice dialer app on the g4, locate it and disable it in settings. The g4 will them redirect to Google now! Don't think you can disable voice mate but it won't activate without the voice dialer app
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
I bet you can accomplish this. I have an annoying bug where most times I plug my regular headset in, the phone thinks I'm plugging in a headset+mic, and launches google now (it used to try to launch the LG voice mate, but after installing the ZV6 update, it launches google now).
So, if you could just duplicate that, maybe cut the wires and splice a new switch to duplicate whatever my malfunction is, it might work? Have you updated to the latest Over The Air update?
Use the Debloater tool on XDA to disable the VoiceMate apk. That's how I got Google Now to work on a long press on the middle button from my headphones.
Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk
I am NOT trying to activate it via voice at all. I simply want Google now to work when I push the button on my bluetooth device. Yes sir I does this s.
To do that I would have to have root. Is that very difficult to accomplish on the LG g4?
Thank you Cor-master! That worked!

That's what it does when you disable the voice dialer. Seriously I gave a plantronics headset and an arctic sound Bluetooth speaker in which I both push the button to activate Google now and keep my phone in my pocket. All you have to do is disable the voice dialer app that's it. The voice dialer is what comes up by default not voice mate

Yeah - I'm not very good at forums. I'm figuring out how to quote in replies so it's easier to follow. Thats on me. Thanks again for this simple solution. I do A LOT of motorcycling. To push the bluetooth button and be able to say "navigate to _____" is huge for me. Thanks to you, i can now do that. bravo!
