Sorry, I forgot the s2 does not have fastboot mode. You should download the stock rom zip and gapps onto your SD card. Then factory reset. Install the stock rom and gapps. Then factory reset again. Make sure you have the proper rom. I've had bootloops like you when trying to install certain roms. Currently my wife's s2 t989 is running cm 10.1.2 with no problems. Cm 10.2 would cause bootloops. If you are getting to the Samsung logo your phone is not bricked, so don't worry. We just have to figure out what's going wrong with your install process. Let me know what happens.
Did you flash a custom recovery? And if so which one? This will be needed before flashing roms.

the way I'm working is THE FOLLOWING:
First, I have samsung drivers installed on my notebook and the phone is recognized.
Second, open the odin program, and on the phone I press vol +, vol + and connect the USB cable, the phone starts in download mode ...
third, odin in pda select rom with. tar.md5, I remove the selection to "re-partition" (sometimes I leave selected)
Fourth, I start ...
wait a while, the installation goes well (I sometimes appears "fail") but usually completes the installation, the phone restarts (odin says that ended with "pass") once it restarts in case of using a rom T-Mobile, the logo appears on the screen, shuts down or restarts ... and no more lights, again only shows the samsung logo and restart every two seconds about ...
I guess I'm doing the procedure well, do not know if anything else can fail ...
I do not know if it's possible to "format" the phone, leave it completely to zero and see if that way I can mount a rom ... by the way, a couple of the rom I downloaded from sammmobile.com so I think that should be the corresponding ...
I hope someone can help me please ...
respect to recovery, well this phone apparently was installed a wrong rom, had no recovery, I try to install the cwm apparently installed fine, but when trying to enter the recovery, as it appears again, the phone restarts just what mentioned earlier
Did you preform a NANDROID backup before flashing?
If not you probably will have to install KIES and firmware upgrade from there. I had to do this a few times with bad roms/recoveries.
You can try CMinstaller (easiest way to flash rom), but unless you enabled usb debugging, it may not work...

This is the only thing that I can think of that may work. I've done this a few times.
Download and install Samsung Kies on your computer if you do not have it already installed on it.
Note down your phone’s Serial number somewhere. You can find it under the battery of your device or the box your brand new device came with.
Launch Kies and click Tools > Firmware Upgrade and Initialization
Connect your device to computer using USB cable.
Enter your device model name in all CAPS (GT-I9500, for example) and click on OK.
Then you will be asked to enter the Serial Number of your device.
Once again, select OK on the next screen.
Doing this will force Kies to download the require firmware update files for your device.
Respond and confirm all securities warnings to clear the way for emergency firmware installation and then select Start Upgrade.samsung-firmware-restore
Kies will now start downloading firmware files and the process might take several minutes depending or data connection speed.
When it is finished, new firmware will be installed on your device and you will see: samsung-firmware-restore-complete
Click on OK and disconnect the cable.
Reboot your device and done!

It seems that way. But maybe someone else here knows how to go about fixing it. The only thing that leads me to believe it is dead, is that you can't boot into recovery even after Odin.
If anyone can figure out a fix, please share, I'm a bit curious...

I just want to confirm your method for entering recovery. With the phone off and not plugged in you hold down both volume buttons and the power button. When the phone vibrates release the power button, and continue to hold down both volume buttons. Do not release volume buttons until the phone boots into recovery. This is what you are doing? I just want to cover the simple things before asking you to try more in depth possible solutions.
Check out this thread about faulty/dirty power buttons.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931310
you flashed with a nearly dead battery? I always charge mine to 100%. I've had issues where my phone won't boot up properly like what yours is doing when the battery hits 0%.
I'd plug it in and leave it for half an hour or so and see if it boots then. Let it charge to 100% and then put on either CWM or TWRP (I've had better luck with TWRP personally) and flash your ROM from there.
I've never had luck flashing anything but recovery and stock from Odin. Other things seemed to be a little flaky.
Also, since this is in the T989 forum, I'm presuming you have the T989 which I believe the recovery buttons are vol+ and power not both (but I could be wrong).
Once other thing you could try is grab a copy of the android SDK (specifically ADB) and run:
adb logcat > boot.log
and post the file it creates (called boot.log). Also, try running:
adb reboot recovery
to see if you can get into recovery mode. I THINK (but have never tried) that ADB should work from download mode. Try booting into download mode and running adb reboot recovery to see if that helps.
That is my best guess anyways.

OK I was trying to flash an unlocked kernal via ODIN last night, something went wrong and now phone is stuck on the phone--!--computer screen. I cannot get past this screen. vol+home+power doesn't do anything but loop to the same screen.
It shows ODIN MODE in red at the top of the screen, but ODIn won't recognize the phone, nor will Kies (not running at the same time). Computer makes USB connected/disconnected sound when I plug and unplug the phone.
I have tried One-Click Unbrick, did not recognize that phone was connected.

there''s currently nothing to flash this phone
it came out only 2 days ago
DEV are still working on finding root
so, the best suggestion is to take it back to the store and get it exchanged
or wait a few more days/weeks until a flashable release becomes available to fix the mistake
I know, I was hasty and now this. Even when there something available to flash, the device isn't being recognized by ODIN. Any troubleshooting help for this?
When I managed to get my Vibrant into that mode I could pull the battery, hold volume up, put the battery in, press and release power (still holding volume up) and it'd kick back into download mode everytime. Once in download mode I could plug the USB in and a running ODIN would see it pop up. If ODIN wasn't running and USB was already plugged in things wouldn't work right.
I haven't tried ODIN on the GS2 yet (I'll wait for a root ). I did find the vibrant nearly impossible to brick though... trust me I unexpectedly tried quite hard.
You might need the newest ODIN for GS2 support, and possibly newer drivers.

I'm a bit new to this, but a custom ROM shouldn't affect your recovery mode. Are you sure you are using the correct buttons and methods to boot recovery?
Might want to make a new thread instead of necroing something from when the phone was 2 days old.

You should try to uninstall then reinstall driver, and try another usb port. In my experience, Odin seems to be picky, it only recognizes your phone if you plug it in the usb port that you used in the first time.

Recovery is accessed by holding both vol + and - while starting the phone. Hold them both while pressing the power button, then release the power button when it vibrates, keep holding the vol buttons till you see the recovery screen.

All you need to do is flash it using Odin. Grab the stock rom from the general forum of the galaxy s2 and flash it using Odin.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Did/does Odin recognize the phone? If it does then go ahead and flash the stock Odin firmware package and that should take care of the problem. Same thing happenend to me and all you need to do is set everything up just like normal, go into DL mode and give Odin a few seconds to find a com port and hit start...just pretend the warning is not there.
I have the same thing ...
I was doing a stock upgrade through Kies, and my computer decided to be dumb and install a windows update and restart the computer... I now see the same thing, i had the stock rom, but it was rooted, and when I try to go back in Odin, it never recognizes the phone... Kies won't recognize the phone, neither will Odin... Am I just returning this phone or what?
EDIT: Nevermind, I only bought it 2 days ago, so I just exchanged the phone
Yes, you can flash from that screen -- I managed to brick my Vibrant that way a number of times, and as long as you get that screen (or the Android digging screen) it's recoverable. KIES should be able to recover it as should Odin -- if it DOESN'T work turn OFF the computer (all the way off) and restart it then try again.
Samsung's USB drivers have a habit of getting confused and causing flash failures both in KIES and Odin.
Be aware that if you're trying to use KIES and the "latest" firmware is a non-wipe firmware (as the updates from T-Mobile are) it will happily load onto the phone something that will bootloop into the stock recovery and refuse to start! If you get hosed like this you probably need to Odin back to the ORIGINAL firmware so you get a "full" flash, then use KIES (or ODIN) again to perform the update.

Were you able to exchange your device? And if you did, what did the T-Mobile reps ask you? and what did you tell them? I ran into the very same problem. I tried everything but I'm still stuck on that screen. I don't want T-Mobile to think I purposely did something to make the phone that way.
Hope I'm not too late to help: I had same problem and used odin to fix.
Here's what I did:
Download stock kernel in tar form from the Android devel forum. Start odin, click check box in PDA, click PDA button then select the kernel you just downloaded.
Insert usb into your phone (I left my cord connected to my computer). Start phone in download mode (up+down keys). Once it's started ib DL mode, unplug the usb cord, then after just a few moments plug it in again. If necessary, let it set a few moments until Odin recognizes the device (yellow stripe in id:com to the upper left), now click start in odin.
That fixed my problem. After that I read and reread everything I could get my hands on, but I think I tried flashing a i1900 kernel.....big duh to me, but maybe I'm not that dumb after all!! But, soon after I was able to root, and have flashed several custom ROMs since my little bump in the road.

we don't have ICS... so I'm not sure if you're in the correct section. is your phone's variant the t-mobile t989 hercules s2?
don't do anything with kies, go to download/odin mode and flash a fresh download of whatever you messed up on... or I would just flash a complete stock ROM.. the ones ending with ".tar.md5".. that should save your phone.

please i have a very big problem at my hand involving my newly acquired galaxy note II, the international version and i was hoping that some of you could help me out here because this is driving me nuts.
My galaxy note II is 2 weeks old and i rooted it 5 days after i got it with Odin and everything seems to work smooth ever since.
My problem now started yesterday when i stupidly went to install the chainfire 3d plugin because i wanted to try my older games that worked better on my qualcomm desire HD that wouldn't work well on my note II and what happened next has left me with sorrows since yesterday evening.
My lovely Note won't boot up anymore. It always gets stuck on the samsung galaxy note II logo. I am on the stock samsung rom.
I have tried everything i could read online to get it working including entering clockworkmod recovery, wiping data, cache, daivik, factory reset, formating sd and external sd card and nothing seems to work.
I have even tried entering odin download mode and downloading a custom firmware to flash but it keeps saying ''downloading'' but never finishes.
I am helpless now and do not want the 619 EURO i paid for this phone to be a waste. I can't return it since it is already rooted and i cannot unroot it in it's current state.
Is there any way for me to copy over the stock rom zip file to the external sd and flash it from there? If yes, can anyone provide me with a stock rom zip file to flash as i cant seem to find it anywhere?
My galaxy note II is the international version, bought at Saturn electronics shop, germany.
I will also admit that i am not so good with the technical stuff so a little explanation could help.
Thanks all.
There are stock roms in the note 2 forum here on XDA. You can boot into CWM recovery and mount your SD card to be able to use on your laptop/PC. If that fails, you can get the Android SDK specifically adb and push it to your internal SD.
I've done the same on my old Galaxy S2, so don't worry it's recoverable! I suggest getting a stock rom and flash via Odin, failing that use the method I mentioned above.
I apologise if I'm unclear, I'm exhausted tonight!

Best thing to try in ur case is make a full wipe and factory reset from recovery then to flash stock rom using odin then to make a wipe again if any problems, this should solve ur problem. Good luck.

Thank you both a lot. I am trying your solutions now. I will post back if it worked.
You both are life savers. My phone is back up and running.
Can't thank you all enough.
Thanks.
Any luck with your Note II ?
You can also download a custom rom , then put it in an external card
Slot it in the phone , do full wipe and flash .

Hello, sorry for late reply. Here is the link you need
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696
Search for your country's version of the stock rom and download it.
Download also the odin files included in that first post.
Once you have the stock rom for your country and odin files downloaded, unrar them if they are zipped and place their folders on the desktop or somewhere else you can
easily find them.
Now open odin from the folder you unrared and turn off your phone (your phone shouldn't be connected to the computer at this point).
Once your phone is off. Press and hold simultaneously the volume down button, home key button and the power button. Keep holding them until you
see the samsung logo. Then let go of the buttons and your phone would enter downloading mode.
Now plug in your phone via usb to your computer and a blue light would show on odin with COM written in it.
Now check the box next to PDA and point odin to the tar file contained in the downloaded rom folder you placed on your desktop and hit start on odin.
A progress bar would now show on your phone indicating that odin is flashing your phone with the stock rom.
Once it's finished successfully, it will show on odin "passed" in a green light and your phone should reboot and voila, your phone is now clean as new.
From there, I believe you continue on your own. Now disconnect your pbone and enjoy.
There are also pictures on the link I posted that would explain the process better.
If you any further questions, just ask.
Good luck.

I had the same situation!
Use Kies:
Tools > Emergency Firmware Restore
and wait for it
It will download around 700mb and flash your device with stock firmware, and all needed files.

I am in a similar situation where Kies does not recognize my device so I am downloading the stock firmware and will use Odin to see if that works.
galaxy tab 3 8.0
I was deleting applications on my tablet the other night and i accidentally deleted the os. i have used kies, and kies 3 to try to do a firmware recovery, but, it did not work. i dont know what to do and i would really like some help haha. any tips??
^^^^^^ like he said ^^^^^^^
Go to SamMibile, find your device, choose your country and download. then flash through Odin. Sam Mobile even gives you a link to that.
can you shut the device down (hold the power button for a really long time)? if not let the battery die, then fully charge it. Then enter download mode (press and hold volume down, home and power button at the same time) then when it says to, volume up.
Once in download mode you should be able to use Odin to flash your stock firmware
I have my Tab 3 in download mode "Downloading" Screen, and tried Odin and Kies and cannot connect. What version did you use to connect? Thanks for your help.
I changed the kernel and when you started the touch screen stopped working

Did you try contacting the developer for assistance?
Maybe the screen digitalizer would be replaced.(The same thing happened with me when I flashed stock firmware, maybe it`s the fault of poor touchscreen)
