I would make sure you have the right drivers installed on the pc. After they're installed which takes some time, put the phone into download mode without Odin running, connect to the computer and let the pc install the drivers. If the pc say "drivers installed successfully" it should recognize the phone and you can continue. Also make sure there are no other drivers interfering and make sure kies isn't running in the background if you have it. Hope this helps.

well when i can get odin to even recognize the devce, it is blue under idcom. shouldn't it be a big yellow box? i think this is a driver issue but ive tried it on two laptops. ive deleted the drivers and reinstalled three times.

Maybe try a different version of odin. I normally use 1.85 and yes it is normally a yellow box and has the com number in it.

Rooting/Update gone wrong

I am in need of major help.
My brother attempted to root and update my phone to the leaked ICS fd16. All was going well until the usb cable accidentally disconnected and now I'm stuck with a partial update and only keep on getting a "firmware has encountared problem" message. It will allow me to go into download mode but it won't let me get into the recovery screen to run a full factory reset.
I can't run an emergency firmware recovery through Kies since there aren't any backup files. Not only that but now my phone can't be recognized through my macbook.
I have attempted to use the usb cable that came with the phone as well as another HTC cable I had in hand from a previous model I owned.
I don't want to take it to Sprint yet since it was my fault that we even attempted this modification and I was even told that Sprint wont be able to replace my phone right then and there for another phone.
I'm going out of town on Monday so ordering a jig or sending it mobiletech is not an option. Any help right now would truly be appreciated.
THANKS
As long as you can get into download mode you are OK. Just download any rom tar to your computer and odin it to your phone in download mode. Should fix it.

[Q] phone identified as i9100 and no wifi or ODIN support

hello all
title says it all
My friend has a d710 and the phone identifies itself as i9100 in the boot screen and download mode and settings -> about phone (2.3.4 kernel JPKI1, build jpkpi1)
my pc refuses to see it in ODIN and the phone is not rooted so i cant try to use mobile odin to force flash a proper d710 rom.
not sure what was done to the phone. (i mean even if he force flashed an i9100 firmware on it, i certainly dont expect it to boot into android.
can somebody help
thanks
For Odin do you have the proper drivers for it? Did you try a different cable? Maybe a different USB port? Also when you flash a custom kernel, the boot screen will have the international logo with the yellow triangle.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
i installed the latest USB drivers and they seems to be working fine
i changed cable and port but it didnt change anything
i tested odin on a Galaxy note and it worked fine. so its not the pc
Did your friend flash an international ROM?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
probably
apparently he took it to a local shop but he has no idea what they did to it. all he knows is that wifi doesn't work anymore.
i think he took it to a shop and they probably force flashed an i9100(GSM) firmware on this thing but it somehow failed midway or after flashing the kernel portion. which left iit in an odd state where its broken but with the ability to boot to the OS.
im sure that this can be fixed if i can flash a normal d710 firmware on the phone but ODIN does not see the phone when i put it in download mode
Is it only not seeing the phone when its in DL mode? have you tried when the phone is on, hook it up to the PC and under device management (start menu search, device management) right click on the USB drive, should show device with yellow triangle, update drivers via search online. Maybe bacause it is the GSM firmware it may need different drivers for odin. Im also assuming the you are trying to use sfhub's one-click odins?
i tried to use both ODINs same problem
in the contol panel i see 3 "android composite ADB Interface. two of which have the yellow triangle. making it go to online to download the updated driver, returns "windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date"
btw. i used a real i9100 on the PC and odin sees it just fine
I found some stuff on it.

its for the galexy nexus but similer situation. may shed some light on the subject.
Can you get into CWM or is it completely stock? I would see if your friend can take it back to the store that "fixed" it and ask what exactly the did to it. Also do you have a jig? that would force it into DL mode.

Silly question but can you pull the battery and see what model it shows on the sticker? Just curious because I have heard of people flashing i9100 builds on our phone but thought it usually results in a bootloop.

ohh i already have kies (and the samsung phones USB drivers) installed. my PC connects just fine with a N7000(gNote and SGS2-i9100) just fine.
please note that the D710 is identifying itself as i9100 in the download mode screen!!??
I saw you said you had the right drivers (I assume you mean for the SPH-D710) I have heard of some people having luck when doing that kind of thing by installing the drivers for the phone they flashed onto their epic touch. (In your case the i9100 drivers)
Note: I am not responsible if doing this destroys your phone, usb, computer, or anything else.
All epics say i9100 in download mode.. why don't you try removing the drivers... and using heimdall, sounds like your drivers are messed up since you have some yellow triangles...
If there any wrong phone flashing going on, it wouldn't boot.

[Q] [Help!] Bricked Phone with driver problem

Hello everyone...
I was updating the phone recently, and went to reboot it (cyanogen mod ROM btw) and now I have no idea what it did but it is now stuck on the Samsung logo, and their is no recovery I can use on it. Only DL mode works.
I tried to use Odin to relfash but the problem is on both my Windows 7 and Windows 8 computers, they install the drivers, but they still fail to recognize the phone when I plug it in!
I have tried different USB ports, a full driver uninstall, multiple USB cords and the computer refuses to recognize the phone saying "USB Device not recognized"
Again, the drivers install fine, and I did a reboot after each install and uninstall. No luck.
I didnt even install drivers on my W8 netbook and I was able to flash back TWRP using Odin and Download mode yesterday when my attempt at flashing TWRP 2.6.0.4 originally failed.
Fire up download mode, then open up Odin (you should see a COM port open), load up what you need to install, then flash.
What are you trying to flash using ODIN? A bootloader or a ROM?
"BootLooping GhostBrick"
Holy crap! you too? I'm experiencing the same thing too bro. its my girlfriend's phone tho. she's borrowing my Nexus 4 while I work on fixing her SGS2...I seem to have contracted a serious case of the BootLooping GhostBrick, just like you did, right after updating. I went through the same steps troubleshooting as you did, and ...its a guess, but I'm starting to figure the solution will probably include: 1. using ADB to push sum files to the phone, or otherwise somehow reflashing stock firmware from the PC.
2. Re-Root the dam thing and flash a kernel with a recovery (like CWM or TWRP) using rom manager...and 3. Considering installing a ROM of my choice Like PACMAN, or Cyanogenmod.....hmm...Yum
anyway, the search for the vaccine to this dreadful affliction begins. Please post if you find something, I will too.

Re-installing Odin and drivers still didn't get Odin to recognize the device in download mode. Windows 7 isn't assigning it any COM port, and nothing can be flashed unless Odin sees the com port the device is on. I used Goo Manager to flash TWRP 2.6.0.3 over my previous 2.6.0.0 version and now I'm stuck on samsung logo, can't reboot to recovery and PC won't recognize device in download mode. Welcome to ur first soft brick, and as I said in ur other post u need to disable or removes Samsung kies before trying to use Odin as long as any part of kies is running even in background Odin won't see the device, also make sure u use factory/data approved USB wires, also try diff ports, sometimes Odin won't see com3 but will see com5, be patient and follow this and ull be fine, also twrp2.6.0.3 has been known to cause sftbricks, DL 2.6.0.4 from techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules its the newest and 4.3 compatible

It's not a matter of trying different com ports, I can't get the PC or Odin to recognize the phone in download mode despite uninstalling kies, installing the latest drivers twice, 3 different OEM cables, multiple usb ports, nothing. when I plug it in, Windows doesn't make any sound like with other usb devices, nor does it try and search for drivers. Are there any other options short of JTAG repair?

I was going to reply earlier, but I got side tracked and this guy is literally having the exact same problem as me. I tried multiple OEM cables, and ports and Windows recognized it but it still won't let me USE it. Odin (after re-install) still shows no connections or ports.
Also, yeah this phone isn't mine either, my Dads. He is using my old S3 for now and is quite mad with me hahaha.
So yeah, I have to re-cap...
-Updated through Goomanager.... (the culprit I am guessing)
-Rebooted
-Got stuck on the Galaxy S 2 screen
-Plugged in with 4 USB cables to three different USB ports
-Uninstalled and reinstalled Odin numerous times, each with a reboot between.
-Odin fails to recognize it
-Windows KNOWS IT IS THERE, and makes a sound when plugged in, however it says "USB Device not recognized"
Any more ideas?
Thanks for the help to guys it is very much appreciated. I will donate to the person that can help me out of this

Probably a faulty USB port. My computer shows that message all the time, only one of them works correctly. If not, you just need to install the correct USB Drivers, because even if you don't have them it should recognize your phone as a Samsung phone but will say that the drivers did not install correctly.

Help: Soft bricked Odin fail sgh-t999

Hey, So Im new to the forum and not a wiz at phone terms so bare with me. I've seen the suggested threads but they dont help my situation, they just linger on into other topics.
Basically I think my phone is "soft bricked" because i was trying to root it and had no clue what I was doing. I can turn it on but i get the error message "firmware encountered an issue.."etc. i can also go into the download mode (vol. down+home+power)
My issue is that odin keeps failing idk if i'm doing something wrong, or have the wrong version but I need help!
I followed this guys steps but it didnt work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239451&page=2

I'm sorry I was under the impression that the device wouldn't connect. Double check it's the right firmware you are flashing. Maybe the tar file is corrupted? So you never got to root the phone in the first place right? Sometimes you gotta try couple times cuz it might fail the 1st time around.
