Ask in xperia overlay thread in cross device development for Sony devices
Sent from my Xperia S using xda premium
You should mention this has nothing to do with Doomlord. He has already given his device long ago to someone else, who didn't have time for developing (good of him that he at least tries to pass the device on). For the actual call for donation see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53843601&postcount=177.
I don't know about donating to them though, see the other semc debrand thread for my reasons why.
Nisu4717, you shouldn't be the one asking for money, Nick is and he has to convince us himself. I'm having a hard time believing someone who has been holding on to this device for months now without a word (even if it is with reasons). And honestly, if I were in his place I'd just pay the €15 myself, even if he has genuine reasons not to have developed anything, it's the least he can do.

I think 15€ is not so much to ask for donations
Sent from my Xperia S using XDA Free mobile app
The problem wasn't that they were asking for €15, I've donated a lot more than that already to other developers. What was my problem with it was that nickholtus has received a device for free, sent to him by Doomlord, who himself received that device from a donation by a part of the community (and has done great things with it), and nick hasn't done anything with that phone for over half a year. So now all of a sudden he rightly decides this wasn't fair and the device should go to a developer who will actually do something with it, only he chooses a developer who apparantly isn't willing to pay the transportation fees and he's to broke (cheap?) to pay for it himself. Is it fair to us, the community, to be asking for a donation to move the device that some of us have already paid for? Doomlord never asked for a donation to get the device to nickholtus.
When I donate to someone, it's to support that developer, not to buy off a developer to keep on developing for my own device so to be clear I didn't participate in the donation to Doomlord. If a developer wants to move on, that's fine by me, I only donate out of gratitude for work that has already been done, not for future work.

I have a scratched up Wildfire S that I am willing to donate for someone to figure out how to get s-off without a clip. PM if your intereseted. I'll even ship.
You MUST show proof that you are compitent to try this and not just wanting the phone. US shipping only. Anyone else out there that wants it if a dev isn't interested I'll trade it for a Best Buy gift card valued at $50 and its yours.
I am not trying to sell this (thats what the Marketplace is for...) but I don't want someone triksy just trying to grab a free phone. If you know someone who is working on this, PM and I'll see if they want it.
PM though, would really like to donate this to the "Cause."
L8r,
You are best off contacting Alpharevx team and asking them if they would be willing to work on it. They are the only team dedicated to unlocking the new phones with S-on security.
but unlock it via xtc clip in a shop is not a very big problem...
i´ve unlocked the WFS of my wife with 10€... in a mobile shop..
maybe i´m mistaken but alpharevx reussed to do it...
Alpharev couldn't unlock it. So they stopped trying.

If you unlock it yourself with XTC clip and then maybe donate it to an established developer on this forum so they can join in the development of CM7, MIUI etc.
He want's to donate it locked so that someone could work on cracking the S-on issue. If this issue is sorted then the floodgates are open to everybody, not just one guy that can work on ROMS for a small amount of people.

They barely even tried. If they really want to unlock it then they would.
Maybe HTC put a special lock on the wildfire s that hackers couldn't unlock it. Or wildfire s is a special cases phone that even devs couldn't see it like it never existed.
EDIT: there fumble is that they don't have this phone that's why they do not care about it. Also ROM Manager wildfire s in not in the list.
Very sad indeed!

This made me feel a lil better about our device http:// forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18343570&postcount=12
I think the people at HTC know how great this phone is and could be, and don't want it to over shadow their new devices coming out. I don't see the upgrade coming any time this year being so close to the major shopping holidays.
1 more thing, wouldn't it be special if the upgrade came with root access, I mean why just unlock boot loader. They say the reason their not locking boot loaders anymore is for development purposes.
that's their standard answer. already seen it elsewhere. don't expect too much.
Just pmed the op I think I'm might have found something just hope the op still has the phone and accepts to post it to northern Ireland if anyone else is willing to donate a wfs please sent me a pm I will return your handset once I'm finished.

MOD EDIT: I am closing this thread. It has become pathetic the amount of trolling and arguing and complaining - you would think this was a thread with a bunch of high school kids if it wasn't for the timestamps saying otherwise.
In addition, after further review this effort falls short of the general XDA guidelines for bounty threads in that it is not for one specific developer, but instead a free-for-all for whomever gets something *done* first, and then that is a subjective nightmare.
And further, the idea of donating to an effort of this sort always leads to further the sense of entitlement which always infects XDA.
All pledges can be considered moot and you may choose to donate to whomever you want to.

Due to the rapid responses and at least one for even more than $20, we might get this REWARD up to 4 figures within 24 hours which would be an awesome stimulant for thosE capable of compiling a ROM for our beloved Sprint E4GT.
EVERYONE: Seems this thread has been moved to GENERAL. I don't care if they but it under LIEUTENANT or even CORPORAL as long as we get our ROM ASAP! Thanks y'all and tell your friends so we can make the total reward even more enticing and get our ICE CREAM SANDWICH even sooner!
UPDATE: We're already up to $165. GO TEAM GO !!!
I seen bounty threads in the past. The just don't work from what I saw. It's easy to pledge, but, when the day comes to paying it's just as easy to forget.
Personally I believe a bounty should be more organized. There should be a pot that people donate to. So, the money is actually there to help entice any developer to get more motivated. That would eliminate half ass promises. With this system we will be able to tell how much money one can make for fulfilling the desired request. Problem is deciding who is trustworthy enough to handle this pot.
If this system is somehow adopted I will be donating to the cause.
personally i was the first one to provide my confirmed donation for the OG Evo wimax on AOSP thread, so its on the honor policy. True there could be better ways to entice, but this is a start.
@OP - usually the subject of the thread is modified with the date and pledge amount total

Idea: Everyone who posts on this thread is giving us their XDA ID info. When it comes time for all of us to "pay up" I'd be happy to post a Shame Page to let everyone know whose word is worthless.
P.S. I'm also good as exposing "bad people" because criminals routinely try to purchase my software, printers & MICR cartridges or use them to commit crimes so I regularly help law enforcement catch and convict them via my Criminal Alerts page

I'm new to smartphones, android, xda and custom ROM dev, well, as of buying this phone 6 months ago. I am curious what are the guidelines for donations for dev done? Typically, I will download a ROM and if I keep it running for longer than a day, I will donate to the developer, if I continue using it and they continue dev with significant updates, I'll chip in again.
is that about right? Also, what amount is generally accepted as about right?

As much as you want. I don't chip in until a very very stable version of a Rom and that amount is significant
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda app-developers app
is that typical? waiting until a "very very stable" version is released? I've been throwing down way too early then.
i understand donating as much as I want (it's not exactly a want scale, though, economics do apply) but the question was what amount is generally accepted as about right. going by what apps cost, one may assume $2 is about right, I don't happen to be one of those people, but that's what some may perhaps feel is about right.
hmmmmm, quiet in here for some reason, lots of views, 1 comment. i wonder why.
This is kinda an awkward conversation to have lol. It's mostly up to you. I've donated to CM, for example, because RC unlocked the potential of our phone before anyone else really. There's no requirement to donate, for sure, and a lot of devs do what they do to make their own devices better. And if you've gone through the work to make your phone better, why not help others?
Sent from my LG-P930 using Tapatalk 2
shouldn't be awkward. I would imagine the only people it's awkward for are those who don't donate. could be wrong but with all the *donate to me* buttons and sig space devoted to dev combined with the spirit of this community ( clicking thanks for helping, for example) I would have thunk more people would chime in, obviously this forum is built around dev and that dev is supported by donations
I've never felt awkward donating to anything, more importantly, I've never felt awkward discussing things that deserve donations so I am unclear on why xda posters who do would feel awkward chatting about donations.
I have yet to donate because the only rom I've ever flashed is CM9 RC1. I imagine there's a way to donate to the folks at Cyanogen. I'll have to look.
I'm definitely willing to donate if I find myself using someone's work, but I've just been hesitant to try so many things because I wouldn't know what to do if I screwed up. I know there's good support by our devs, but I find myself waiting until the community deems a rom virtually foolproof and stable.

I am very sure this rule will not be changed. If you can't donate money, then donate your time helping others here. Put up a donate button on your profile that links to a dev you like so others can make a donation on your behalf. Not literally as the system doesn't work that way, but virtually.
Edit: I believe that it would never be allowed for legal liability reasons after thinking further. What if one of those was a scam, and XDA had allowed it to be published? In our over-litigious society, it is sometimes better to disallow an activity for all rather than allow the chance of abuse by the few that could jeopardize the whole system.

hell i do tht bro ....
Sites like the one that everyone uses (3 letters, dot, two letters), are a scourge on the internet...
Sure, it gets you a few cents for every thousand clicks, but it subjects anyone without an adblocker to a pile of obnoxious ads, and delays everyone by 5 seconds per link...
Imagine if that service was to go down, or be hacked... If the database is lost, all the links posted using it are useless! Nobody can convert from the paid referral link to the original contents, so the links are dead...
For this reason, plus the fact that it pisses everyone off to see these links in use (and it goes entirely against what XDA is about - sharing, and doing this for fun), such affiliated links are not permitted.
If users are in need of some free space to store ROMs etc, then check out http://d-h.st/ (Dev-Host). Anyone who's a recognized contributor/themer/developer can get their account upgraded for free if they check out the thread in the Recognized X area
Moderator EDIT...Paypal link and the original post contents removed, this is not in the spirit of XDA, nor is it appropriate as a proper "Bounty Thread", no one should have to donate anything to get anything here, work is done here in and for the spirit of development.

So are you giving him your wife's phone or selling it to him? If you are selling it to him, how much are you asking for the donations to cover? Was just curious where the donations came into play.

And with 5 bucks the ball is rolling. I know a lot of people have doubts but some people actually like the satisfaction it gives them to be able to do the right thing. And for even more proof give me a few minutes. I think im going to start doing screen shots to show where we are with donations (for the non-believers).
Sorry folks, thread closed...This was not a proper "bounty thread"
This is not how things are done here, see OP for edited info by me.
K.G. EDIT: Lying to the insurance company would be considered fraud and that has no place for discussion on XDA. Allowing threads to beg for money to pay the deductible would make XDA an accessory.
