[Q] Terrible 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 radio on Sprint network (LTE only lasts 2 mins) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

When I am on 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 radio, my LTE connection is absolutely terrible. It has pitiful speed, and typically only last 2 minutes or less before reverting back to 3G.
Did anyone find a way to make these radios work? As far as I can tell, the only answer is to downgrade by flashing a 4.4.2 radio.
I heard something is wrong with band 26. Maybe it would be possible to disable that?

I haven't heard of any 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 radio/modem for the SPH-L710. ND8/NDC are the newest, both for the latest official stock ROM which is 4.4.2.
Could it be you were flashing modems not meant to be flashed on our phone? If so, you're lucky the phone wasn't bricked. You should flash the NDC modem or re-Odin the stock ND8 tar.

I know this isn't much of a fix but I have a similar problem. I always loose 4g even when I know it's there.
I just switch the phone into LTE only mode and it stays connected none stop, well unless you move out of a coverage area.

@roirraW "edor" ehT may be right. There are no 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 radios for the SIII. Did you flash ROMs that were AOSP that were "4.4.3" or "4.4.4"? If so, you didn't change your modem, because they don't flash modems. You were still on the 4.4.2 modem. With the SIII, there is no way to disable the bands. Tri-band is out for the S5, which if you have your MSL you can disable different bands, but if you go into your ##DATA# settings for the SIII, it's simply LTE enabled/disabled. What you may want to try is flash back to complete stock, run ##72786# to reactivate, update PRL and PROFILE, and see if that helps. Also, if you need 4G LTE and it's not coming up, and you know you're in a 4g area, then toggle airplane mode and it should re-lock into 4g once you turn airplane mode off. Good luck.

That is probably what happened. I had no idea which radio I was on, but getting the ND8 radio fixed the issue.
Thanks!

Is it something new or just instructions for installing roto`s modem switcher?
Can u make calls on AWS?
In canada voice calls are only possible as canadian aws carriers do not have gsm network.
the link to the modem doesnt work. i doubt this will give US tmobile folks 3G and phone tho.
I have read so many threads and I need answers.
1. How do US T-mobile users get 3g and phone?
2. Will the modem switcher do this?
3. What is the most current rom to install?

The title is very misleading. It's wether 2g and voice or 3g only made available using the modem switcher.
It will never be like the AT&T that can use 3g and voice. Boo!

He used modem from a cell phone that can do both voice and 3G. The modem switcher is just used to flash the modem but is completely unnecessary, he could have used redbend or heimdall just to flash the modem and be done with it. This is a major win for TMO users.

No 1700 so that means no 3G and voice on US tmobile tab
It might work for tmobile /wind users as well if somebody can replace RIL libraries / modules with vibrant stuff.
so this modem can be flashed with odin, and will it work with any rom or the euro rom only ??

But now appeared another problem – leak of battery. During night, in sleep mode it’s discharges on 30% (around).
Can u propose another modem?
Thanks @irkkso for this post and @android-rules for your mirror link. I using T-mobile Tab version with [ROM] Overcome 1.6.3.
Country: Vietnam.
Mobile Carrier: Viettel Mobile.
I was unable to use 3G with phone call but now I have both on my Tab. Thanks so much.
My result: (I don't have a screen shot to show you guys) "H" sign (HSDPA right?) on notification bar and, of course, phone function works!
Thanks again.
it works just as I've said in other previous posts cause it's a galaxys tmobile modem but it got the max step volume bug on JMx firmwares.the max volume is two steps back than what it should be after it decreases...this is issue is not present on if you use it on jk5 firmwares.same things happen if you use jk5 modem on jmx firmwares-...but I'm trying to fix it asap

Help with Sprint

Hey guys I need some help with Sprint. I recently purchased a couple of S2's for my kids from a guy who had Sprint and switched carriers. One connected fine, the other did not. Sprint says it is a problem within their system not being able to connect the ESN to a Sprint number but the phone is definitely a Sprint device. It's not rooted and it's not flashed. They have a ticket open on the issue but they are taking too long. Is there anything I can try that might fix this?

You can Odin a Sprint Stock ROM. It won't trigger the flash counter or change the device status to modified, all of the stock ROMs are located here-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903252
Just follow the instructions in the thread of the ROM you pick. (GB27 is the latest Sprint ROM) it sends you to. PC required. But you may have to change the HA and AAA keys to get it to work if it was flashed to another carrier. And further yet it may have been flashed to another because it had a bad Sprint ESN. If that's the case you won't be able to activate it on Sprint... It will work on Boost, FreedomPop, Ting, Page Plus, Straight Talk, or Virgin Mobile if flashed. Just giving you as many possibilities as I can think of.

I'll try to Odin again. Right now it is on the latest Sprint GB27 so I'm not sure what the issue is. But I'll give that a shot. Sprint verified the ESN is not bad, Has not been reported stolen or lost or anything like that. I would think that if it was flashed to another carrier that it would not be on GB27 correct? It would have to be a Cricket Rom or Boost Rom etc...
The only other carriers that have ROMs are Boost and Virgin Mobile, but technically you can use a Sprint ROM with any of the carriers mentioned above, all you have to do is change the mmsc url and apn settings. They all basically run off of Sprint's towers.

Ok I'll look into that also. I'll do some comparisons with the phone that worked and the one that doesn't
Doesn't make any sense that they can't activate it on their end if it has a clean ESN

Network Unavailable ND8

Hi all, I flashed the stock tar via ODIN then Philz recovery, everything loads and installs fine it seems. My wifi works as well as everything else however, I have not had any cell phone service at all. when I go to setting->self activate it says network unavailable. I've tried to do a reset and all to get the phone to turn on the network but I am not sure what it blocking my phone from gaining any type of network access. I'm not sure where to go from here, the Stock ROM unrooted as well as Custom ROMs have provided the same no service results. I hope someone is able to help me I know I didn't provide a lot of information but I've followed all of the ND8 and Restore guides that I could find down to every last detail and cannot seem to get this to work, After 5 days of trying I feel it is worth asking you all seperately because any searchs have only shown users with both wifi and network connectivity problems.
Thank you all so much!
Kennan Miller
Sprint, Boost or Virgin Mobile? Did you check the MD5 hash of the zip or tar? Did you try the Odin multiple times and without changing anything, not even custom recovery? By reset you mean ##72786# from the stock dialer? After the reset did you try update profile and PRL? Try the NDC tar instead of ND8, especially if you're on Boost or Virgin Mobile.

I havent tried the reset with the numbers, i kept looking for the code and could not find the proper one for my carrier, but that is the sprint one. I have a Sprint phone, I'll do some searching on what the NDC is, I have not heard of that before.
Edit: yes, I checked the md5 before anything i flashes through odin or recovery etc. . i've done the update for PRL and profile
Thank you for the response! Kennan

You're welcome! Try the data reset first. After that it's normal to do an update PRL and Profile. NDC is TouchWiz 4.4.2 for Boost and Virgin Mobile, ND8 is the same for Sprint, which should be what you Odined.

Hey! I'm sorry it took so long to respond back , I don't live in an area where I have service I had to drive into town so I could test it out! The code worked and I received service! however, I did not have any data/3g . I'm fairly confident when I have been to that town previously I had 3G, Does anyone have recommendations for that issue if it doesn't come back? sorry for seeming so needy, I would just like a few things to possibly try because unfortunately I have to make a trip into town everytime I need to see if I have service
Thank you all so much!!

[Q] Can't receive sms after flashing stock

Hello everyone,
So ill start out telling you my long journey through the numerous roms I've flashed.
First flashed cm11 4.4.2, then to 4.4.3. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Next flashed liquid smooth 4.4.4, nothing else was wrong until I noticed my calls took
a while to connect. Then I got multiple and duplicate sms messages all at once that were usually late.
So I tried to restore my first cm11 backup, then I started to lose all texting ability. So I tried to revert back to
stock and unroot. Success
Now everything works fine (calls, data, sending sms etc.) But I still can't receive any text messages.
I am running the stock 4.4.2 Rom from Seminole with no root access. I've contacted sprint and gone
through all of those hoops to no avail. Is there a way to fix this? I would greatly appreciate any help..
Thanks

[Q] Can't make calls on 4G.

I have a I9195 with stock 4.4.2. I know 4G is for data only but when my phone connects to 4G (it had a full signal) it drops my 3G connection so I am unable to make calls or send and receive text messages. Is this normal?

mate flash the nearest countrey modem of kitkat using odin in "cp" 2 times .. first without auto-reboot and after flashing reboot to download again and this time in cp again with auto reboot and let it boot .. im sure it will be better ... just remember nearest modem
How?
I'm currently using I9195XXUCNH5_I9195OXXCNI1_XEF.zip from SamMobile. I flashed it with Odin. It is the very latest firmware but it was for France's sim free market.
If you look at the firmware list on SamMobile, for the UK there is only 4.2.2. I have 4.4.2 installed. I've tried flashing 4.2.2 again but It won't revert back.
I tried putting the modem.img or modem.bin file in I9195XXUCNH5_I9195OXXCNI1_XEF.tar.md5 using tar and md5sum but it didn't work. I need a linux box to do that because the windows version of tar and md5sum are different and don't support the parameters I need to pass.
So how do I flash with the latest modem for the UK market?

Can someone remove the boot stuff from I9195XXUBML4_I9195BTUBNA1_BTU.zip so I can flash back to 4.2.2?
Because I9195UBUBNE2_I9195ZTOBNE2_ZTO.zip is 4.2.2 and that flashed successfully but it is for the Brazil market.
But I9195XXUBML4_I9195BTUBNA1_BTU.zip will not flash even if I have 4.2.2 installed. It's something to do with the boot files. I read somewhere you can take them out the tar file, re-package it and 4.2.2 will work again on the S4 mini LTE.
I have tried different Modems but it is still not working. It tries to connect to 4G but is never successful, so it reverts back to 3G. I don't think it is a problem with the phone as it use to do the same thing on my brand new S4.
I think it is a problem with the sim card or the Three network. But how do I find out? Anyway I have attached a screenshot so you can see what is happening. As you can see, my phone is trying to connect to 4G, in the process my phone drops the 3G connection. So I can never have 4G + 3G running side by side.
