Hey guys,
I know, threads about probably fake phones are not really welcome but my friend bought a S4 mini while he was in vacation in bangkok.
He asked me if I could have a look at it and maybe put away the chinese custom rom (can't enter bootloader mode or download mode).
I tried to get some information about this phone via imei and so on. As far as I got, it's probably a fake with a MediaTek
MTK6572 Dual Core 1.3 GHz Chipset and 512 mb of ram (a bit disappointing). Although Antutu and sys info show 1.5gb of ram.
I for myself just own nexus devices and and know the rooting and flashing process there but I don't want to just play around with it without knowing it will work.
So I've got some questions:
1. Can I just flash around on this device like I do on the nexus (with adb)? If not, could somebody lead me in the correct direction?
2. Is it maybe somehow possible to install some AOSP rom on it? Are there any compatible roms for such fake phones? Will CM maybe work?
3. Should I tell him to buy a decent (not fake) phone for her mother instead? (Looking at the Motorola G)
Sorry for these basic questions
Thanks for any help.

Tinkered around some more with the phone.
Was able to get it rooted and install cwm on it. This is were the story will end. Searched for hours and there are no AOSP roms, just these crappy chinese roms out there (which I don't even bother flashing) and half of the things are not working.
I hope my friend has learnt his lesson not buying crappy chinese phones where you can't even flash a proper rom on it. He's now looking forward to a Motorola Moto G as phone.
This chinese S4 Mini clone model will now land in the trash (where it actually belongs!)
plz help

Hi,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9195. It is not so easy to explain but I will try:
I experience that when I do scroll most pages up and down at the end of the scroll it does not end smoothly but in jerks.
Is the problem related to firmware ver or does it have to do with something else?
I am waiting for Android 4.3 to be out for this model hoping to see if this issue disappear.
Obviously, it is not such a niche felling.
Please let me know what to do.
Thank you
Is the issu also there if you've a custom rom installed?

I have never installed a custom rom and do not know how to do so. I do not have much experience with Android though I wish to learn and be able to manage it as I do on Windows OS.
Please let me kindly know what needs to be done to troubleshoot, although I noticed that this symptom I noticed also on a Galaxy S4.
I am really tempted to sell this device as I consider it not being worth the money I spent but I do not know if on other devices, like HTC One (which I might be interested) this behavior occurs.
As an example another user, on this forum, confirmed me that the phone signal is quite weak when compared to other phones, still with same carrier: This should not happen when you spend €400! Instead, Samsung covers its **** saying "I cannot compare brand names and even this model with other models", rather than just saying: we screwed up with this phone!!!
Please let me know.

There are no other root methods and possibly won't be any more. Of I'm correct there's only a recovery for one variant and if it's not your model I honestly wouldn't risk it. There is OneClickRoot .com where you connect with a technician live online and they root it with that method remotely and its 40 bux I believe but, you have a 100% guaranteed if no success which they will succeed, you don't pay, and if something goes wrong they replace your phone. They have been around a few years and I see nothing but good comments about them and talked to several g4 owners who did it. I desperately want root on mine but I'm not attempting that delicate **** with my bad luck lol and there's not much dev for it cuz of the locked boot loader right now, hence no custom rims so I'm considering claiming mine lost ad forking 40 bux which is worth it for me

Thank you so much for replying back so quickly, i actually saw oneclickroot.com as an option, but i didnt know if it was a trusted website or if it was any good, i didnt see any BBB credentials and felt that it was just a website design to take your money, but now that you mention all of the above, im gonna speak with a technitian before i do anything, thanks for all your help and good luck rooting your device as well..
You have the T Mobile variant, why don't you just unlock the bootloader officially, install TWRP, the install SuperSU zip file and root that way?

Because honestly, i have no idea how to do all that, i dont even know what any of those things mean, im new at all this and only reason i want to root my device is to upgrade roms and hack games, i think my best option is paying money so i can get it done, because obviously doing it by myself wasnt such a good idea..if you could explain and guide me through the process i could try it, i just dont want to make the same mistake and hard brick my device again..thanks..
I would go do A LOT of reading about EVERYTHING related to rooting and unlocking before going any further..

Yes These guys are absolutely right you need to go do some serious research and completely forget rootin a g4 if your not a fly advanced user. I started when I found a lil Samsung Galaxy centura on the side of the road out walking one day and I got lucky it was a very simple root. Really what is absolutely crucial is that custom recovery which I learned the hard way, I still have a gpad 10.1 brand new in my drawer that won't go past the boot, fastboot, and stock recovery and I dont have a PC and I haven't had experience using a PC in many years lol but I got as far as possible without one and being able to flash a different roM depending on my mood and easily laugh at a brick or bootloop while stepping over it is a great feeling I recommend highly. But your not quite ready yet especially for a tricky ***** like the g4, Hell Im not ready for it nor can afford it lol I give that lil L70 utter hell though and learn every day… since you have an unlockable BL (soooo jealous lol jk) you have more options but trust me find an old phone and practice all you can first ..good luck and have fun expanding your mind man[emoji6] [emoji4]
Oh and if you need any help you can private message me and ilk do my best. If I can't answer something I know some guys who can
Oh yeah (again lol) it all may seem complicated at first but you hit a point where it will all just click and fall into place like flipping a switch and then be amazed that everything actually works the way it does, it's just getting to that threshold that is the tricky part

From my experience, initially you may get confused about all terms like root, bootloader, recovery, 3 wipes, Supersu, etc but when you find a post teaching you how to root or install recovery, you need to make sure you download the correct image/file for your phone model! But most importantly you need to know how to rescue by yourself if anything go wrong first. DOWLOAD CORRECT KDZ AND IMG BEFOREHAND for pre-cautionary measure. Well known about the steps how to hard reset to restore to factory image.
All in all, I was not studied IT but rooting and installing recovery is a skill facilitating my phone experience! Have fun on it!!

Yep all those big damn words lol they got me too at first. But yes there's so many phone models so similar with the slightest difference your never see but require completely different files ...just pay attention to every detail

So you called in your carrier and pretended that your phone was stolen because you bricked it while trying to root it. That's awesome.

Hello,
I am trying to root an LG G Pad 2 8.0 (V498) but i cannot find the subforum for it, it doesnt seem to exist...
Does anyone knows where i can find any infos for this model ?
thanks!
its a relatively new model, especially in Canada.
I got one from Fido Wireless, but the sticker says v497; I have the gpad 2 8.0, but with wrong sticker?
anyways, there are plenty of guides to try in the lg g3 forum along side the one click root methods like kingoroot, root genius, and more...
LTE / data units are v495, v496, v497, and the wifi only version g pad II is V498 all sport the same hardware features other than data of course. I've rooted my v495 using the method in the all info v496 thread and it looks like they are making headway in development.
Thank you, Bryan.
that clarifies things for me.
so, do we know whats being worked on? like recoveries, kernels, etc...?
if so, do we know about cross-compatibility for each model?
Hi there will anyone out there be able to direct me to the root method for the Lg G Pad
Rogers version v497 any help would be appreciated

Look here, use at your own risk, I recently bricked my V495 AT&T trying to load TWRP Custom recovery. Rooting was not a problem though.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-pad-83/help/tmobile-gpad-f-8-0-v496-info-t3139894
Being that there is no v498 sub, I guess I'll side track this thread a little. Someone mentioned here that v495-v498 are all essentially the same hardware. My son cracked the screen on his v498. I found only 1 supplier selling a specific v498 screen, from China, for $90.. I have found plenty of the other models like v495 or v496 for a little cheaper and in the US. I'm wondering if anyone knows if these other LCD/Digitizers should work on the v498? I have it opened up and, I actually see a LG-V495 stamped in the plastic even though the back sticker says V498, so I am assuming the v495/v496 screens should work on this, but just want to verify before I order one.

This is a little late to the game, but here's what worked for me on the wifi-only LG G Pad II 8.0 (v498), and it might help others.
I used Kingroot (4.8.2) to root the tablet, then used Supersume Pro from the Play Store to remove Kingroot and install Supersu. (I'd tried a couple other methods for removing Kingroot first, but they didn't work, and Supersume Pro (v. 9.3.7) nworked really quickly and with zero pain, so that's the method I'd recommend. It does cost a few bucks, but IMO, it was worth it for the ease of use.) It's working perfectly. (Supersume Pro is available at the Play store at: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=darkslide.com.supersumepro -- can't post the link because I'm a new member.)
I've rooted before using clockwork mod, etc., on other devices, but Kingroot does make rooting simpler. If you don't trust Kingroot for rooting, another method might work, but I had trouble finding one specifically for this device.
Cons to using Kingroot (and keeping it):
1. It installs a cleaner app called "Purify" which you may or may not want, and which you have to install to get to the rooting screen. It can be uninstalled separately, though.
2. Kingroot really messed with my Okay Google app. It turns itself on in "Accessibility" mode (or however you might put that correctly), and when turned off from the Accessibility settings, Okay Google will work again. However, Kingroot "insists" on turning itself on in the Accessibility settings, and will keep resetting, overriding your setting. It may also hijack other aspects of the tablet that I didn't notice -- I replaced it with SuperSU shortly after rooting.
3. Many people are nervous about the amount of data sent to the Kingroot servers in China during the rooting process. I'm on the fence about whether it's dangerous or not. I think it potentially is -- regardless of the location or ownership of the servers -- but I have no idea whether it's *actually* dangerous or not. If that aspect worries you, you should try another method to root your tablet. I think I would have been more reluctant to use Kingroot if I had the version of this tablet with the sim card.
4. Kingroot is quite recalcitrant to removal and replacement. Two methods that I used to try to remove Kingroot (without unrooting the device) didn't work -- and even after the program was no longer on the tablet, I could not replace its su with a different binary. I had to reinstall and uninstall using SuperSume. I might have had better results replacing it with SuperSu manually if I'd been more patient, but I didn't want to spend too much time on it.
Pros to using Kingroot:
1. It's fast.
2. It requires little technical skill.
3. It can be removed and replaced with SuperSu (or, presumably, some other superuser manager), though that ranges from very easy (using SuperSume) to extremely difficult (especially if you don't play with rooting a lot -- and people with only one or two Android devices generally root once then forget it till the next time they need to root a new device, and so don't have a huge amount of experience with it).
I hope this helps someone!
I'm going to be receiving my tablet soon and since it's stuck with Android 5.0 I was hoping to find a custom ROM with Android 6 but it turns out there's not even a thread for this device. Does anybody knows of any ROMs for this device? I'm getting mine from Fido and it's also LTE enabled. Rooting is not required for me since I'm not really into customization much but having the latest version of Android is important.

Hi
Ive just ordered a A70 and was wondering what should i do and not do ie update etc?
Im wondering should i root or stay stock
But i do fancy installing LineageOS but do i need to root to install
Also will rooting void my warranty?
Thanks
I would wait till the android 10 update comes out, before you root.
It comes out in april.
And yes, rooting will 100% void your warranty forever.

No, you don't need to root.
But you need to have a custom recovery installed like TWRP.
(Would not recommend tho, to install a custom rom, because of the bugs. It's pretty unstable right now.)
Ok thanks
i personally like rooting all my phones i get.
but due to the lack of many custom roms, i first just used my phone as it is - stock.. see if i liked it like that and it was actually perfectly ok.
however after a few weeks i needed some extra volume boost with Android Auto, so i rooted to solely use Viper4Android.
my advice try stock for awhile see if you like it, if tou desperately need a rooted app then root.
I got a stupid question... will rooting my a70 prevent me from updates?

OTA updates - yes it will affect and won't be possible.
but flashing manually via ODIN - that's the way to do it

If you don't know why you need to root (without reason to install LineageOS, coz without root if i'm not wrong, it will not available), better stay away from root at all. Second it void yours warranty, but this is not worst thing, if you don't have nothing common with rooting, you can easily brick yours phone. Will be problems with that, you can easily lose it. Yhea, yhea developers probably know how to fix that and my warning sounds like funny post, but when I had one this situation, I had to bring it to authorized service (Then I had warranty and I did not said true what's happen in authorized service for fact that I could lose warranty. So they thought it just stucked my smartphone on boot without reason over night). As I know they changed motherboard and how I understand they did not unbricked it with programming process. So if authorized service will detect that it's your fault (if you will have to bring to they), you have to change motherboard (probably - it depends what to say to you authorized service), which cost for you a lot of money, coz you will lose warranty immediately. So if you want to root just for fact that some doing like that without any reasons (to change OS from official to 3rd parties - why need when update is will be official, you have warranty and ect???) - stay away from this idea at all. I recommend you at all don't modify software (if manufacture don't recommend to do some changes even in software). You can easily uninstall some unwanted apps (I couldn't to uninstall maybe only 5 apps from most, but they are still disabled very easily). Smartphone is smoothly, battery is very good. Why at all need to root this device??? Game running very well like: FIFA Mobile, Call of Duty Mobile, NBA 2K20, Asphalt 9 Legend (all in highest settings), if I remember right PUBG Mobile (which was mentioned in other thread and is very popular) worked to me smoothly too, but that game I don't like for strange blue (if I am not wrong) zone where need to run as quickly as possible someone from this zone, but I don't know where. Time always rans faster as I ran. I played it only maybe two time, ok three maybe for some minutes until I was killed by this zone. Don't worry you can play most popular games if you are gamer at all without any problems (i'm sure). Only NBA 2K Mobile lagging in this phone. It doesn't matter in low or highest settings, but how I understand from 2K, this is not phone guilty. As I understand, 2K did not supporting this game for Samsung A70 100% and probably it available in Google Play just for requirements compliance: need Android 8 or higher OS (Samsung A70 have Android 9). RAM must be more as 4 (Samsung A70 have 6 or 8, depends which version u ordered), also good and fast internet connection. There is no reason to lag, but lag is. So probably only these game you can't play from most popular games, I guess. Coz for me did not worked it good. Was big lag, then I bought NBA 2K20, which by the way is much more better as Mobile version. But I saw in Google Play is update for this game already which released December 6, 2019. Maybe already is fixed lag problem. Oh I forgot to write, lag is in Samsung S10 too which is flagship of 2019 from Samsung (I don't remember exactly in which model Note, + or any others, fact that in Samsung any S10 had to run it smoothly, but is the same problem. 2K explain that game is new, models are new, so... can be like this...but maybe will be fixed with future updates).
P.S. I don't know what you doing with smartphone: reading, watching video/movies or listening often music (sounds is not so loud as I expected and on all volume is not good, have distortion a little bit), browsing only or playing games. What is your skill of rooting and ect. I just wrote what I know and my recommendations to do not root. I tried some smartphone to root in past, I know some apps for that, I tried some methods for others phone and ect. So I know how possible to easily lose a phone if you are rookie at all in that. I can't understand at all why need to modify very good mid range smartphone with which you can do a lot of things without any problems? So sorry if my post sounds like scary warning or funny at all, but I just tried to shared my knowledge and experience about root, this model and ect.
