Hello all, long-time lurker first post.
I bought my Verizon GNEX on the day it came out and have loved it since.
Yesterday the power button stopped working.
I tried the method of removing the battery, plugging into PC, then putting the battery back in but no dice.
So, now the phone is powered down and I can't turn it on with the bad power button.
Is there a way to power up the GNEX from a PC?
The phone is on 4.4.3 with an older Vanir ROM that has been running stable for a few months at least.
Any help you can give is appreciated.
Thanks!
concerned about that.
mine is not so reliable either...
If you have already enable developper option, yes, you can power up it by pc, using adb, for detail, you can search adb at this forum,
Thanks!

Thank you. That points me in the right direction. I will try that.
There is a thread for this. Saw it the other day. It's an older one but in said thread several people have reported ways that work for some.
In short plug the charger in. Wait for the lightning battery icon then pull the charger. It takes several attempts but it's worth a try and a search.
Also haveing debugging on isn't going to make a difference because it's off... And there are no adb commands to turn on your device

Thank you.
I have searched and tried that technique and another where you take the battery out of the phone. plug it into your USB (without battery) wait for computer to beep. Put the battery back into your phone.
I have also disassembled the phone and checked the contacts for the power button (they looked good).
So far , no dice.
Thanks again :good:

Wondering if you guys could solve my new Nexus issue.
- Working fine this morning.. alarm went off, checked the weather (via Google Now, of course), traffic, etc. Charged overnight with the Samsung cable and wall adaptor.
- When I got to work, I noticed a blank triangle where the mobile signal usually is and "Cannot connect to mobile network" on the home screen with "retry" under it. I hit retry a few times but no joy. So, I powered off......
- It powers off, per usual. I wait the usual 10 seconds or so and I hold in the power button. Nothing. I hold it in longer. Nothing.
- I google for some reset tricks. I hold in the up and down volume at the same time then hold in the power button. Nothing.
- I remove the battery and sim. Plug up the phone to power (even though it was at 99% when I powered down). Do the volume trick. Nothing.
- I plug back in the battery, now connected to the wall, do the volume trick again. Nothing. No flashing lights, no on screen icon telling me it's even plugged in.
The battery doesn't appear to be swollen or anything out of the usual. No electrical storms last night. No blackouts/grayouts according to our microwave.
Any other tips or tricks? I have spoken with Samsung via phone and they said "return it to Google".... Really helpful! :good:

Thanks for the tip! The volume up + down + pwr was the first troubleshooting tip I found on Google. No Joy
What really worries me is that, even though it's plugged up, there isn't an icon or light on the device telling me it's hooked up.
When plugging Nexus via USB to PC you can hear the sound if that USB device/thing is connected.. so then should be maybe some ways to fix it with some programs..
does the Odin flash mode work..? when off then press power and then volume down if I remember right..
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640443

Oops, forgot to mention. It does NOT make a ding when plugging up. Tried other USB plugs in the back and front... :-|
Strange?! I would say leave it charging for a couple of hours and then come back and see if it will power back up..
Sounds like your phone has died. Better to take it to corporate Verizon store and get it replaced

Okay..
try this:
take battery off and then plug it to PC via USB cable, let it to be like that something 30 seconds and then open CMD in Windows and then put cd ADB platform-tools location to it if you have installed SDK, you need USB driver from AVD manager!...
then type to CMD: adb devices and if it can find your device then put to cmd the adb re-boot or what is the command, maybe it works..
If PC says cannot be installed the USB driver then find from google the OMAP4440 driver and install it and then type ADB devices..
for ZTE Blade this de-bricking was so easy, just needed to pust image folder where is the tpt files and then to boot by pressing power, menu and volume -...
To unbrick Galaxy Nexus is a bit harder but you might be able to fix it like with the OMAP4440 files + driver to flash the boot stuff to it.. there was something thread how to do it (in thegeneral forum, maybe 5-8 threads back..) ..

He says the phone is brand new and didn't mention it was rooted. I don't think he bricked his phone. It probably just died. He can replace it since its under warranty.

the ROOT is not needed if not editing any system files...
if ADB can find the device then the phone can be fixed via ADB!
also with the OMAP4440 files..
So he doesn't need any root!
Thanks for all the help, guys.
This phone is completely "virgin" with 4.1.1. No root, bootloader, or anything at all. I wanted to get the feel of stock JB before I went rom crazy.
I always figured I'd brick a phone at some point, but I didn't think I would brick it before rooting!
Also, this is the GSM (post-ban) GNex directly from Google Play. I'm on the phone now with Google Support (45 minutes and counting! Yikes!) :silly:
Also, the phone has been plugged in for around an hour now without any life. I had the battery out for 30 minutes before that, each time cleaning the contacts on both battery and SIM.
As Professor Farnsworth would say...
"GOOD NEWS, EVERYONE!"
Not sure why, or how, but leaving the battery out for an hour or so will, apparently, bring a dead phone back to life.
I haven't had a removable battery since 2007 (pre iPhone 2G), so this stuff is new to me :good:
You guys rock. :highfive:
I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It is had some water damage in the past (making it near impossible to get repaired under warranty) and that has caused it to act funny. Funny = Powering off at random times and rebooting itself/causing the buttons to act silly. Recently it did the thing where it powered off and now it won't come back on. I know the power button still works and it is charging because when I plug it in the charging symbol pops up when I press the power button. However it won't power on. I plug it in to my laptop and it charges but my laptop does not recognize it is plugged in. Is there any sort of program I can download that will allow me to get into my phone or anything I can do? Also I have tried the Power and Volume buttons to try and power it into Bootloader mode but that does not work either. Neither does pulling the battery or putting a different battery in or using a different charger.
Isnt it clear it is dead? Electric stuff+water=death. (Physics 101)

So your galaxy nexus turned into a Nexus 4? Or is there another reason you're in this forum?
Rude
Why are you people so mean? I am looking for help, really just a program that would allow me to plug my dead phone into the computer (since it indicates it is charging) and allows me to get files off of it. That would be nice.

Hey man,
I'm not sure if your gnex is salvageable, but if when you plug it into your laptop it indicates charging perhaps you may be able to get to your data. First question...do you have usb debugging enabled in settings? We have to get your laptop to recognize the phone as a drive, then try to grab the files. Tell me more about what happens when you connect it. We aren't all mean, some here just forget how it was when they had nothing but questions and no answers. Most in the forums are very helpful, regardless of experience level.

Thanks for your civil post, I will try my best to inform you more on what my phone is doing.
When I plug it into the laptop it does indicate it is charging but that is the only sign of life I can get out of it. After reading a little bit more on the issue I figure might be the power button that is the issue since it is running JellyBean. One solution that I have tried that has yielded interesting results is plugging the phone into the laptop via USB without the battery in the phone. My computer then makes the "beeping" sound like it is connecting to it and then "beeps" again like it can't connect.
I can't post a link but if you google katzz ifixit then you can go to the website I went to that described the issue and gave the solution I just described. Katzz is the name of the user who posted the solution.
I'm pretty sure I have USB debugging enabled in the settings because before my phone stopped responding I plugged it into the computer a lot to transfer files.
Is there any sort of program that would allow me to turn on my phone from my computer even though I can't seem to get my computer to recognize my phone?
Hey guys,
My Gnex battery died yesterday, after which it wouldn't charge or turn on.
I have had this problem before and I managed to fix it by pushing the flat USB connector up gently.
I tried it, didn't work. So I left it to charge. After a few hours, I tried it again and it came on, the battery was at 100% so I unplugged it.
At the end of the day I plugged it in and it wouldn't charge so I rebooted it a couple of times, but nothing.
Then I read a couple of threads and it said to power off and restart boot loader, so I turned the phone off, but then it wouldn't start, no bootloader, no recovery nothing!
Now my phone has been off for a day, nothing is working and it totally sucks, I need my phone for everything. PLEASE HELP!!!

Have ypu tried to pull out the battery and let it be for a moment? Then put the battery back in and it may be working. Maybe try a friends battery or charger to see if that works. If youve read everywhere and tried everything and nothing works I think the only option is an omap flash.

Hey mrgnex,
Sorry I took so long to reply, my net has been down.
I've tried everything except the omap flash, but I don't really know much about it.
Could you tell me more:-
a. what does it do
b. when is it meant to be used
c. and how do you use it
so everything basically.
P.S. I was running CM 10.1(Forgot to mention that earlier)
Thanks

I really dont know myself because I never had to use it but I know it saves your phone if everything fails and you dont need a battery. I found more information and a tutorial here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925468
I recommend to read the whole thread to see if you have the same problems.

My old galaxy nexus was also not booting after being in a box for about 4 years, it was showing 100% charged and nothing more
I tried the OMAP4460 drivers, but since windows 10 does not normally allow unsigned drivers I was stuck.
What worked for me:
Charge it for 16 hours
Press the power button hard, as light pressure was not doing anything.
Now I just need to install a new ROM as google keyboard inst working on this 10.1 OMNI ROM preventing device setup.

Hey there. Hoping someone can help me out here. Long time lurker, and I used the search button, but similar threads did not help me out...
I was out and about yesterday, phone was fully charged, and working just fine. I had used my phone and place it back into my pocket. A couple hours later, I pull the phone out to check the time, and it won't turn on. I assumed the phone had shut itself off like it has in the past randomly. So I press and held the power button. Nothing comes on at all. Screen does not turn on, there is no boot sequence, no LED light, NOTHING. I proceeded to remove the battery and replace it, still no power. I press and held the power and volume down, NOTHING. I read on here about removing the battery and holding the power button for 15 seconds to clear any power in the phone, put the battery back in and on the stock charger for 15 minutes, then trying to power the phone up. NOTHING. I took the phone to Verizon, and they were no help, they could not power the phone up either. We even tried a different battery. I am not awaiting a refurbished phone... only problem is I have loads of pictures saved to the phone (I don't use an SD card).
I am creating this to reach out and see if any of you know of a method I can try to get this phone to begin working?
At the very least, I would like to pull the pictures and files I have downloaded onto the phone... and I am really hoping that there is a way! (I have my serious doubts since the phone doesn't power up... but still I want to ask).
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
And thanks in advance for anything that may be provided!
Two options I would try:
-leave the phone plugged in a whole night/day (original charger)
-try a spare battery (if you didn't already)
-clean all contacts
Definitely try leaving it plugged in for a while. Also, have you tried hooking it up to your PC? Does the computer recognize the device?

Hi all, stumbled upon this thread while google searching. I'm also having similar problem as op. one moment the phone was working, next moment cant power it on no matter what buttons I press.
To answer this question, at least for me, when I hook it up to my PC it just shows QHSUSB_BULK, which according to my research means its been hard bricked.
I'm probably going to send it in for repairs

Idk. its odd. I fired off a text message, placed it face down on the table. Came back 5 mins later to check it and it wouldn't work.
The only thing I did was root the phone, and did very minor tinkering like use xposed framework. Didn't flash a rom or anything.

Wow, that's terrible. What module? I know messaging with the build prop can are you up, but I've been tinkering with various Xposed mods for a while and never had an issue. And I'd think if it was a bad module you'd have seen the issue immediately, not after a random text message. That's just bizarre.

Sounds like something shorted, and is time for an RMA. @Asus_USA, @Tuanies, what do you think?
Was there anything custom done before this happened (e.g. root, recovery, kernel, ROM)?
Try holding down the power button for 5-10 seconds, see if it turns on again. Let go, repeat. If nothing happens, then yes, you should RMA it.

Hi sethvitales, What I would recommend is that you try to use a different adpater and power cable and try to see if you are now getting a display or even a sign of charging. If you are not sucessful with these steps, email us at [email protected] with the serial number and location and we will have an RMA generated for you.
