Hey there. Hoping someone can help me out here. Long time lurker, and I used the search button, but similar threads did not help me out...
I was out and about yesterday, phone was fully charged, and working just fine. I had used my phone and place it back into my pocket. A couple hours later, I pull the phone out to check the time, and it won't turn on. I assumed the phone had shut itself off like it has in the past randomly. So I press and held the power button. Nothing comes on at all. Screen does not turn on, there is no boot sequence, no LED light, NOTHING. I proceeded to remove the battery and replace it, still no power. I press and held the power and volume down, NOTHING. I read on here about removing the battery and holding the power button for 15 seconds to clear any power in the phone, put the battery back in and on the stock charger for 15 minutes, then trying to power the phone up. NOTHING. I took the phone to Verizon, and they were no help, they could not power the phone up either. We even tried a different battery. I am not awaiting a refurbished phone... only problem is I have loads of pictures saved to the phone (I don't use an SD card).
I am creating this to reach out and see if any of you know of a method I can try to get this phone to begin working?
At the very least, I would like to pull the pictures and files I have downloaded onto the phone... and I am really hoping that there is a way! (I have my serious doubts since the phone doesn't power up... but still I want to ask).
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
And thanks in advance for anything that may be provided!
Two options I would try:
-leave the phone plugged in a whole night/day (original charger)
-try a spare battery (if you didn't already)
-clean all contacts
Definitely try leaving it plugged in for a while. Also, have you tried hooking it up to your PC? Does the computer recognize the device?

Hi all, stumbled upon this thread while google searching. I'm also having similar problem as op. one moment the phone was working, next moment cant power it on no matter what buttons I press.
To answer this question, at least for me, when I hook it up to my PC it just shows QHSUSB_BULK, which according to my research means its been hard bricked.
I'm probably going to send it in for repairs

Idk. its odd. I fired off a text message, placed it face down on the table. Came back 5 mins later to check it and it wouldn't work.
The only thing I did was root the phone, and did very minor tinkering like use xposed framework. Didn't flash a rom or anything.

Wow, that's terrible. What module? I know messaging with the build prop can are you up, but I've been tinkering with various Xposed mods for a while and never had an issue. And I'd think if it was a bad module you'd have seen the issue immediately, not after a random text message. That's just bizarre.

Does your phone power off when connected to a charger? Sometimes a hard reset could solve the problem.
hey, thanks for responding. this is very frustrating. even with my old battery, while being plugged in, my phone was still turning off. for some reason with the new battery and phone plugged in i could actually move around on the home screen without it turning off but when i hit the start menu nothing would happen (i was trying to do a start>accessories>clear storage). and somehow i finally got the hold 2 soft keys and hit the power button to work. now im reset and all appears to be working now although im a little scared to add programs. i really appreciate the response. it gave me the encouragement to keep at it when i was about ready to give up.

Good to hear everything working our for you. You could always try to add one program as a time to see how your phone would react to it. Yes, sometimes it takes more than one try to get your phone working right.
Again, good luck
ok, after i got everything working again i updated my tmobile rom to the latest version and of course the next day i was having the same problem. the phone just shuts off. is there something physically wrong with the phone? i cant figure this out. should i try an older rom? i dont know what to try next. any help would be appreciated.

Read above for the solution.
ALWAYS do a hard reset if you up- or downgrade the ROM.
just completed the hard reset with the phone plugged in, i pushed a button and it turned off....
i have a a100 with the latest flexreaper rom installed and im stuck with a pretty serious issue:
a couple of days ago the tab was acting real slow and sluggish and getting bad battery life didnt think nothing of it so i just rebooted a couple times and left it alone . all was good untill the battery hit 10% and i plugged it up using the factory ac adapter. the next day (maybe 6-7 hours later) i went to turn it on and nothing no vibrate no screen flash nothing; other than the power button turning blue as i pressed it and it would stay on for a couple hours but still no other response from the tablet.
im at my wits end on what could be wrong and now i got my wife with her foot on my neck till i get it fixed. can anyone help me?
ive tried to do a hard reset with the reset button tried to boot into recovery /bootloader no dice
(also my home button flashed a couple time i pressed the power button) dont know if its relevant but wanna get as much info out as possible
wondering if anyone can help me...

It may take awhile for someone to see this and form something to try, random bricking for no reason is rare, its almost always some error by the user. However have you attempted adb connection to it? Leave it powered off, connect to the PC you used to unlock the boot loader then power on. Does the PC make the USB connect sound? Does the Acer vibrate? Did the home key blink again?
It really sounds like your boot partition is wrecked which wouldn't normally happen outside of flashing. If boot loader is trash then it won't know what to do and just sit there. No recovery or anything else.

it made something like the connect sound but instead of the regular duh doom sound it did a dadadoom (kinda hard to describe the sound) but it was faster than ive ever heard the connect sound before which is weird. the tab didnt vibrate and it seems the home button blinks when the tab is dead and needs recharged

Yeah I know that sound it means USB connected but error for some reason. Its been shown if this thing dies all the way down it wont read the battery correctly and probably needs to be sent in. Before that I personally would unplug it open it up and remove the battery for awhile, maybe an hour then put it back and plug it in. But thats me, not the advice I'm giving. If you have warantee on it use that.
The batteries on a lot of devices and laptops etc have something of a fail safe, if the voltage drops below a certain point it trips to prevent cell damage, however it renders the battery useless.
I haven't searched out much past that if a reset is possible by us, but it seems the pack is trash after or needs sent in.
Since this is a sealed unit you void warranty opening it (well unlocking the boot loader did too) so you can't send it in for repairs without paying for it.
I hope someone can jump in and help figure this out, and prove me wrong.

Weird, This exact same thing happened to me. Used it in the morning and now after work it won't turn on. I had already tried disconnecting the battery, but hadn't thought to leave it disconnected for an hour. My tablet has been running the leaked ICS since it came out and The last factory reset it had was about a month ago. It was working fine up until this. The power button seems to be responding correctly, the issue is that after the LEDs light up, there is no vibration or display. I hope someone can help us with this issue.
EDIT:
It won't connect in ADB mode. It will only appear on my computer as an APX device and since there is no vibration I am unable to boot into fastboot. Any help or suggestions? All the threads I have found have involved booting into fastboot.

I have been using ICS the leaked one, and last night I was goint to check my email and it did not turn on, I though the battery died. I plugged to the charger and this morning I tried to turning it on but it failed. I did the reset pin but nothing. I connected to the computer and it was recognized as a APX device and installed a driver ACER Picasso USB recover but i cant access anything. I am a nob. Thanks

Has anyone tried holding the power button for a while? Laptops do this too, if someone felt ventures, try taking the battery out and hold the power button. No promises, might work.

Having the exactly same issue, here...
I also tried to hit the hardware reset button and it does not help.
If the screen is blank while powered on its in failsafe mode, in other words is bricked, has to go to Acer.
Tapatalked from my Galaxy S II.
This just happened to me a few weeks ago as well. If you are still under warranty send it in to Acer, thats what I did. I just got an email saying they had fixed it and were sending it back for free!!
At the time I was on the 9/02 JB build. I wonder if this issue is caused by faulty hardware or if it is an issue that was made by rooting and unlocking it? I don't know enough about this stuff to answer that though, but it does make me think whether I should root/unlock it when I get it back or leave it stock.
Also thanks Pio_masaki for helping me a few weeks back wasn't sure if I was even going to send it in until you said they most likely won't be able to tell.
I highly doubt they even CARE when sending these in. They will void for physical damage most likely.

Ohmygod,
Same here, but it's 3 years ago. Sorry for digging the topic. Still no hope? I still keep the tablet and have just buy another refurbished mainboard to replace but still no vibrate and blacksreen still there.
hey guys, Idk what happened to my phone, I was using it normally, and then it just shuts off and starts to rumble, like in intervals not continuously. So tried to remove the battery, and stuff like that, it wont even boot it, it would just rumble like that again. I plugged it into the wall and it'll do the same thing, it wont even charge, even though the charging battery showed up for a second and then disappear and then it starts to rumble. I tried to odin, and it lets me into the volume up and down menu, then if I was quick enough I can get into where the android is, but after about a second or 2, it will just turn off, like the screen would show up blue vertical bars on top of the android picture, and then it would just shuts off as if I unplugged the battery and power cable, and then it continues to rumble. I really dont know what this is, I have never seen anything like it before, this is my third galaxy phone and none of my other ones have ever encountered anything like this. I dont even know what to classifies it as, like it's not hard brick cause i can get into odin but it's also hard brick because it would shuts off before i get to do anything! Any help is appreciated, thanks!

You have a sticky power button. There is some stuff in this thread that you can try.

If nothing there works for you, you may need to send it in for repairs.

Ok thanks! That works for me, well I really didnt fix it, but now I know what's wrong with it. the button on the inside the the actual button is broken is i shake it to the right side to get it off the sensor, it kind of works now, I'll actually have to send it in eventually. :/
Thanks a lot though!
I'm not 100% sure it is the power button so I wanted to run the situation by the forum, but also because this was my son's first Christmas and I have all his videos/pictures on the internal memory ... my priority is really trying to get those. I could really care less if I had to buy a new phone.
So here's the situation ....
Phone was fully charged and I came into work. Had already been listening to a podcast, sent a few text message, etc. I looked over at one point and the screen wouldn't come on. Tried pressing the power button multiple times with no luck. If I removed the battery and put it back in, it would power on briefly and then shut off.
Device only briefly comes on when I first put the battery in. If I'm quick I can try putting the phone in download mode. It gets to the initial screen and then powers off. Sometimes it is there a few seconds longer than others.
I mistakenly tried this and didn't even have the power button in and it still went to the download mode, so THAT is why I'm thinking something is wrong with the power button. It's as though it is permanently pressed.
I read a few threads and watched a few youtube videos but I'm not really getting a clear answer. I've taken the phone apart and the button is NOT pushed in. I can press it and it seems fine (besides it not doing anything). I did try also hitting it a few times as some videos suggested and it didn't help?
Anyone have any thoughts on a next step?
Edit: in case this is important, it is rooted, running moar v6.x, zerolemon battery. i realize the case may have been the initial culprit so at the moment it is back to a stock battery and case.

If it's the power button take it to sprint and and they should fix or replace...especially seeing as its a known issue.

maybe this will help you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2369125. i had a verizon s3 which wouldn't even turn on until i tried this (steps were a little different since it was a verizon one and not sprint). here are the verizon steps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2581166.
you may be able to use the win32diskimager in windows to create the sd card instead of linux. i have also heard the SD card needs to be the same size as the phone. 16GB phones means 16GB Class 10 SD Card. 32GB phone means 32GB Class 10 SD Card. I used a SanDisk card from best buy. probably the best $15 i ever spent lol. i used the sd card to boot the phone. then reinstalled stock recovery and bootloader. thsi didn't affect the actual ROM (didn't take away root on 4.3 jellybean). Good luck!
Try a dirty flash. Can you get into recovery? Flash moar again. Or try nandroid and to external SD and transfer to computer to see if u can collect the files you're trying to get back
Hey All,
I'm currently on the CM11 04/22 nightly, and have made it all the way up to the 04/27 nightly to try and resolve this issue and have not been able to. Basically - the sudden death issue has been hitting me very hard - I can't use my phone at all.
I understand the 04/11 nightly is stable and doesn't have this issue, howevery CyanogenMod does not have this on their website.
Does anyone have this install available? (CM-11-Nightly-20140411-D2LTE.zip)
Thanks so much in advance

I'll be using the phone (say checking my Instagram or reading a book on Play Books) and the screen may be on for about 5-6 minutes. The phone will suddenly shut off on its own. I'll start it up and then shut down again when the phone is loading. It will also sometimes say it has 1-2% battery when it really has 45% (which is what it shows when I plug the phone in).
Hope this clears it up.

I had the same issue a week back. Was the most frustrating thing ever...
I finally narrowed it down to the power button. It actually had to do with the power button switch which is soldered to the motherboard. The power button was super sensative, therefore being engagded at all times, causing the phone to hard shutdown every time I tried to turn the phone on.
How I fixed it:
1. Opened my phone up
2. Broke the switch off
3. Done
Now I use my phone without a functioning power button but it was a quick and free fix so it doesnt bother me.
If I decide to do so in the future, I can also solder a new switch back and get the power button working again.
DO NOTE: This might now be the issue you may be facing, so do your research
Finally, I watched this YT video which showed me how to break the power button switch and eventually fix my phone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Glllc7bEJs
Good Luck

I'm fairly confident that this isn't the power switch. And if it were I'm not sure how comfortable I would feel breaking the power switch off.
The thing that begs me to think this is a software issue is that I'll have 45% battery, the phone will die, and then I'll try to turn the phone on again only for it to tell me I have 1% battery left. I'll put the phone on charge (after it dies again) and it will say charging - 45%.
Anyway I've rolled back a few updates and it seems to be fairly usable now...
Try cleaning the USB port real well and don't use a cheap cable. Use a needle and make sure there is no lint packed in there. These things can cause the phone to cycle itself even when not plugged in. I've fixed several doing exactly what you describe.
