[Q] Help on Nokia X - Nokia X

Hi, i am using Nokia X, its my first android phone, so i don't know much. But i was able to root my phone & install google play services, all thanks goes to you guys. I was wondering, is there anyway to increase the 512 RAM with any third party software & SDcard? because you know, its very slow on games. Thanks in advance for ur time.

Yes. But not by any third party app. I was able to make my X pretty damn fast by Installing NULL Kernel by @mdfzhi. You'll feel the difference.

In order to install NULL Kernel, first download and flash CWM through Nokia X Flasher.
CWM Recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2703708
Nokia X Flasher: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2744881
Then Download NULL kernel and place the zip file on your sd card. Turn off your phone. Hold the Vol + button and power button together and keep on holding them until you boot to CWM Recovery, Now flash the zip file and reboot.

Dont use such stuff. Install a custom ROM if you want a fully fast ROM.

How to root and install custom rom?

I'm a beginner, i recently asked how to install the ics leak, apparently it's seem easy, one click but i was advise to root and install cwm...
so what exactly is CWM?
can anyone give me the following guides? with the most dumbed down instruction? (like button to press, where to activate things etc.)
How to root lg android?
brief explanation of what is cwm
how to install custom rom?
- while you explain, can you explain the concept of the phone? like recovery mode does this, debugging does that.
I used to be a iphone pro, but android, i'm a noob xD .
To root, download superoneclick v2.3.2 on your computer. NOT 2.3.3 as it doesn't work. Launch it and click root. If it doesn't work the first time, keep trying. It'll work eventually. Clockwork mod is a recovery mode. In your android You download rom manager in the play store, then click on it. Click flash clockwork mod recovery inside the app. It'll give u a list of devices. Select att nitro HD. Then download ho!no!s cwm flash able leak, (its in the android development section. Download that and go back to rom manager. REMEMBER YOU DO ALL THIS IN YOUR ANDROID XCEPT FOR ROOTING WITH SUPERONECLICK. Click reboot into recovery. Click on backup and restore. Click backup in that. Wait till its done. Then go back to the main menu in cwm. Click wipe data/factory reset. Then click yes. Then when its done go and click advanced. Click wipe dalvik cache. Click yes. Then press the back button. Then go to install zip from sdcard. Click choose zip from sdcard. Then click Download.locate the zip you downloaded earlier, it should be in there. Click yes. When its done, go back to the main menu and click reboot system now. Voila, you're done. Phew this took a while.

Make sure you know where your .zip file is downloaded. You'll need to know where to find it while you're in CWM looking to "install .zip from SD card".
I'm still a noob as well. I've only flashed one rom so far, but I hope I've steered you in the right direction. My suggestions are what worked for me with my rom so you should be fine. If anyone sees errors in my advice please post so that we will all know.
well awesome man! thank you for making it bold and everything, really helpful. pretty much got everything sorted out now. the concept is pretty easy xD Much less hassle than iphone. btw, after flashing the cwm... how do you flash custom rom? xD lol. and which rom do you recommend? hono full throttle? seem like it got pretty good reviews.

Well I don't know if it's called "flashing" for CWM. It's more installing CWM with the ROM Manager app. Then once you've backed up your stock setup you can "flash" whichever rom zip you want to use.
I'm using CM9 RC1 because it had reviews of it being stable with everything working. I'm so new to this that I am hesitant to try all of the other roms that have bugs. I'll try one eventually though.
Hopefully you get a custom rom running today. :good:
the 1st thing you need to do is learn to use the search function. there's about 50+ threads on all of this, there's a repository of everything as well.
I'm rly starting to think we are doomed as people when every ****ng newb here has to start the same ****ing thread.
jesus christ, take some responsibility, this nitro is my 1st smartphone and i figured out how to use this forum to do the **** you are asking months ago.

I am new to this too and i followed that at least 20 times now and Super click just stops. Can anyone help?
SuperOneClick has been known to take several attempts to complete. From everything I've read just keep trying. Some guys have had to try 20 to 30 times to get it done successfully. It sounds like a pain, but it's worth it.
So super one click may still work with the updated NITRO?

Alright I got it rooted. Now what is a good noob friendly rom? Right now I am using CyanogenMod 9 RC2 but I dont like the fact that you cant put it in usb mass storage mode. Is there any way to fix that? and the fact that you have to install the play store.

Yes, follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671050
You only have to do this once for each computer you want to use USB mass storage on. It still sucks if you want to use it for USB mass storage on other computers, but if you only use it on one or two computers it's fine.

[Q] Low on space notification -- Please help me

First of all i am new to android, Thank god, i found this fourm.. I recently bought Xperia arc from my unknown friend. He gave me with Android 4.0.4 updated. After watching some Youtube videos, some guy told that Android 2.3 i best for gaming so i flashed to LT15i_4.0.A.2.368_Generic Global using flashtool by reading many guidelines.. After flashing successfully i still got this notification *Low on space" Note that even before flashing i got that. After googling it several times.
Solution said to install some apps, but that dint help... It says there is no movable app. And tried to enable the move to SD card button ->It says i need to root i tried Doomlord's app dint work. i deleted dome application cleared cache, force disabled, ut nothing seems to freeup spaces,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488351
Even this link says on step3b, make sure there is no low on sapace notification, but how do i do it?

Just do a factory reset then make a second partition on your sdcard and use link2sd. Problem solved.
Is factory reset and hard reset are the same?

I think you need root for this mod.

sorry, i was at training, so i could not reply that fast.
well, rooting is allways a first step.
i did it that way: (short form only, if u want additional info's, just ask)
1. root
2. put a new rom + gapps on ur sd card
3. flash a prerootet kernel with preinstalled recovery which fits to ur rom
4. flash rom + gapps
5. reboot
6. connect phone to pc
7. backup ur sd card
8. delete ur entire sd card (thats why u have to make the backup)
9. reboot into recovery
10. wipe all
11. search for 'partition sd card'
12. choose ur values that u want
13. reboot into system
14. connect to pc
15. put all files back on sd card
16. download the mod and put in on sd too
17. reboot into recovery
18. flash the mod
19. wipe all
20. reboot
21. YOU'RE DONE!!
press thanks if it helped

Modules.zip is inside of fusion kernel rar file : D No there is no risk in flashing wifi modules because these are just a files required for a custom kernel to work properly. I mean like a drivers in windows so the wifi can work.
Just remember to format system, data, cache partitions in CWM before flashing anything. And I forgot about this http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip these are the newest google apps for JB without this Play store, google maps etc wont work.

I don't know where you heard that you have to enable fastboot, but that information is incorrect.
To root and s-off using revolutionary, you must enable USB Debugging from Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB Debugging. then install hboot, fastboot and adb drivers (http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install ; http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-set-up-android-adb-and-fastboot-on-windows-tutorial/).
Then, run revolutionary while the phone is plugged in your PC.
(For kevikevs: download revolutionary from www.revolutionary.io)
Thank you very much, I'm now rooted! ... I guess?
Revolutionary closed by itself after i opted to install the ClockWorkMod tool.

Well, you don't install it yet.
In my sig there's an sd-card partitioning guide. You will have to partition your sd-card to have your internal memory increased. Follow it, using the fastboot method.
Then you can install a JB rom.
I recommend either this rom :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766550
or this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070704
You install a rom by:
1. Download the rom zip.
2. Put it on your sd-card.
3. Boot in recovery.
4. Do a backup from recovery.
5. In the wipe menu, select "wipe all partitions except sd-card"
6. Select "Install zip from sd-card"
7. Wait for it to install
8. Reboot.

You're not rooted yet. Download and install this from recovery :
http://download.chainfire.eu/315/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip
Then you will be able to use all those apps.
OK sweet all rooted now! ( i hope)
So i have the 4ext recover thing set up following your guide. (thanks)
Is it ROM time yet?
Chris.

Sorry to butt in here, but I've been reading this topic in hopes of learning about dual-boot myself. I've downloaded and tried several ROMs, but never two at a time
Props to both of you. This has been very helpful. Think I can dual-boot vanilla with HTC One's ROM? Tried it at a store, felt very nice.

Woop! Woop! Flashed successfully XD
Now what should i install? This is the first time i have ever had an Android phone of my own.
Also, i would like to dual boot if possible and install the latest Sense UI (the one the OneX has).

Congratz!!
You should first follow the instructions in the rom thread for activating a2sd, in case you haven't already.
Unfortunately, i don't know anything about dual boot.

Ok i have had a look and I'm not sure what this "a2sd" is? I can't see it.
I have installed the google apps .zip located in the ROM thread.
Can i now wipe my SD card, or is the ROM running from it?
Never mind, you have helped me enough already. I'll work out dual booting another time.
Chris.

A2sd is the script that moves apps to your sd-ext (the partition on your sd-card that you created using my guide). It will let you install way more apps. There are instructions in the ROM thread.

[Q] Looking for simple Rom and Guide

Hi there,
my mother in law is pretty upset with her Gio. She complains that it always has slowdowns and there are to many useless apps on it.
Therefore I want to get her a Custom Rooted Rom.
She mainly does:
-Of course, telephone
-Use Whats App
-Use SMS
-Wants to use a E-Mail-Client
-Use the camera
-Listens to music
Therefore I am looking for a custom Rom which lets me delete all the Useless Roms and improves the speed and the battery life of her phone. If it has a better launcher design which is not as "boring" as the one on her phone this would be a huge plus.
She uses Android 2.3.6 which is not bounded to a provider.

Since you doesn't have root or custom recovery, you can't use the "programs" WYPIERDAALAAC said. One way to backup your stuff is to use a program called Ultimate Backup Tool. This program doesn't need root or custom recovery. It works on Windows, Mac and Linux. Try it, and then reply how it went!
Thank you very much.
Now I need a Guide to install the Rom, where Can I get it?

If you wanna install Enhanced236 (the most bugfree one), you need to install install cwm, Clock Work Mod, first. How to:
1. Make sure that you have fully charged your battery.
2. You need to download the ext4only 5.0.2.0 cwm version, here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421650.
3. After you have downloaded the zip, you go into recovery mode, in this case stock recovering. You do that by holding The Home Button + Power Button until the recovery gets visible.
4. Then you do click on the Apply update from sdcard, and select the cwm zip.
5. After you have flashed the zip, you should reboot your device. Here's a YouTube video on the installation process: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxjxB8P9rSU
6. After you have done that, I recommend you to take a nandroid backup. The backup will be stored on your sdcard, so you can copy the backup to your computer if you want to, just in case.
Now you have installed CWM. Let's install the ROM!
7. Download the enhanced236 from this thread. Copy the zip to the root of your sd-card, and then go into CWM. Wipe data/factory reset. After that, wipe the cache partition. NOTE! This will erase everything you have done on your phone, so make sure that you have a backup ready! After that, click on the install zip from sd-card, choose the enhanced236_06.08.2012.zip and flash it. Just follow the instructions that pops up, and then restart your phone. Leave it booting/waiting for like 5 min, and then start touching/configure the device. After doing the necessary configuring, wait another minute. And reboot. And then it's done! Wohooooo.. :victory:
Hope you like your new custom ROM! And if you have any questions, just ask! I'm glad to help!
Regards,
X-Zone
With your help I managed to install a custom Rom, thank you very Much.
I installed Cyangemod 7 Beats Music Edition.
Unfortunately I think I made a mistake in the backup. These are the files the backup gave me: IMAGE
-With this files and the files with are still on the phone is there any change to restore her contacts?
-Additionaly she has problem with handling her Phone connected to the PC as a Mass Storage Device. Is there any (free) German software which syncs the Music, Images, Videos more easily with her phone?
My mother in law is not very good with PC, therefore the more simple the software is the better.
Thank You very much

Sweet jeebus, if you don't know how to lash a custom kernel...you shouldn't.
The .zip file you downloaded contains the modules, flash it in recovery like anything else.
Then in bootloader flash the correct boot.img, clear the cache, and reboot.
Don't ask how. It really would be much better if you used search and read up on it.
Or even just cast your eyes at the first post at the top of Q&A because this is definitely a frequently asked question.
