Hi guys!
Moto g, cm11, single sim.
I have 1 postpaid number and 1 prepaid number. The numbers are the same only carrier prefix is different.
Most of the time I'm using postpaid and I have viber installed there.
Now I need to have my prepaid nr active in my phone in the next 20 days. I will insert my prepaid Sim but I want to continue using Viber.
What will happen then?
Should I deactivate viber account while on postpaid first?
After 20 days everything should be as before...
From experience if you've registered Viber with your postpaid number and then you remove and use the prepaid. It will continue to use the 1st number until you remove Viber or flash new ROM. If you want to use the 2nd number just reset Viber and enter the 2nd number to register. You will then have 2 separate accounts with 2 numbers. Otherwise leave Viber to share the 1 number.

Your answer is the most appropriate answer I could expect. This behavior (to continue to work with the postpaid nr) is exactly what I wanted to achieve.
Thank you very much sir!

My GF wants to leave Verizon and join my family plan on ATT. I tried to port her in, but they are saying that because her number is a different market, they can't add her to my account. She would either need to change her number or have her own plan. Those choices suck.
I wonder if there's a way around this, and considered porting her to Google Voice, but i don't know how much of a pain it is using GV to emulate your old number and not the new assigned one from ATT. She doesn't want to have to work hard just to call/text. And i think it would be annoying to have her calls and texts show up with a new number.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
I give out my GV number to anyone and don't have any problems using it. Just install the GV app and tell it to make all outgoing calls via GV and she'll be fine...with voice calls. Texts come through and go out fine using GV, but MMS is not supported. I don't have a texting plan so it's not much of a concern to me, but if she is used to using MMS then it will become problematic.
Just remember that using Google voice will eat minutes even if you are on a mobile to mobile plan.

If you call customer service or go to your local AT&T corporate store they are able to have the same family plan with different area codes. It is possible but the work around is opening a new account under your name under what is called a NBI account. Basically that's how business accounts are opened but it will be under your personal information and then they could move your number into that account and then bring the Verizon number with a different area code into that same NBI account.

Yeah, but if that new NBI account is created, any grandfatherd features such as old Raye plans or unl data are lost since a new plan has to be set up

Nope, all they do is transfer over the lines with existing features and it still stays grandfathered.

Exactly -- I ran into the same issue over 2 years ago. I am on AT&T, live in Chicago, but have a South Florida number, my wife was on Verizon. When we got married, she stayed with Verizon until her contract was up. Then she switched to AT&T and got an iPhone with Unlimited data. At the time, I had iPhone with Unlimited as well. They wouldn't allow her to be added to my account because I had an out of area number. I spoke with a manager, told them that I knew it was possible because a few of my friends have the same thing. I said I wanted to make sure I kept my Unlimited Data, and I wanted to make sure my wife did too.
They opened a Small Business Account for me. When it was all set up they transfered over my wifes account. She opened it separately with AT&T because the window for the Unlimited Data was running out and she wanted to get it while she could. I personally recommend that they open the account and have it set up first then port the number. We kept all of our features as they were prior to the new account.
When I switched to Android, I kept my number, upgraded to LTE, and kept my unlimited (5 GB throttled) data plan.
Make sure that they know exactly what you want when you switch your account so you don't lose something.
someone told me that opening an NBI account does change some things with your plan, not data unlimited, but other stuff i wasan't sure if it would have an effect or not. either way this might be my best solution
Don't let Google Voice update on anyone's cell phone! The new update uses cell phone minutes instead of your data plan! If you have Unlimited Data you don't want to update.

The way Google Voice works is:
You call a number using your carrier-assigned number ---> It goes through one of Google's own numbers used for Voice (a US number, which is why international calls through Voice are cheap), but identifies itself as your Voice number (similar to number spoofing prank call apps) ---> the person receiving the call sees your Voice number.
Texts, as long as you use the Voice app to text, will go through data. FYI there are callback apps that will allow you to dial a number you want to call, and then have Google Voice "bridge" you and the other caller (it will call you back, then connect you to the other person after you pick up). If receiving calls for you is free, then you can use these apps.
Youre cool. Thanks for the info. Wanna be my xda friend?

With voice+ you only need one number on your plan for A list for unlimited calls to any number.

ATT used to offer a feature called "A List". It was a list of 10 phone numbers that you gave ATT that you could call for free. Hopefully this was your most called phone numbers.

Hello. Is it possible to use a disposable number with two lines for whatsapp so that we are able to make a whatsapp account from that number? If no then is there any other way to do the same? I want to have one additional number but don't want to have two sim cards. I had already tried doing the same but I get a message that the whatsapp is not the original one, also the playstore is not the original one, etc. Is there any solution for that? Does that mean that I cannot use 2lines with whatsapp plus? Too many questions. Sorry I am new to this. .

Instead of a SIM card you can get a Virtual Phone Number. Calls made to the Virtual Phone Number will ring to your existing phone, and you can return calls through a system so that number shows up on CallerID. Many services also offer SMS. I've used Tossable Digits in the past, you can get a number for $3.49/month. If you email their support, they can enable SMS for you (it's not public yet). Google their name for details.

Hello there!
I'm just thinking about buying a Samsung Galaxy S4 mini (i9192), but I have some doubts about how it uses its SIM cards, and I haven't found the answers even on the owner's manual available on Samsung's website.
For example, let's say that I have both SIM cards active, SIM1 is the default SIM, and I receive a call on SIM2. If I review the call log and search for that SIM2 call, what happens if I call back to that number?
a) Will the phone use SIM2 to place the call because it was received trough that SIM?
b) Will it make the call through SIM1 since it's the default SIM?
Another question is about associating contacts to a particular SIM. Can I specify a preferred SIM for a contact? If so, how does it work? I've seen some screenshots of the contact list from other Samsung Duos series, and they show a little 1 or 2 next to each contact, but I'm not sure what does it mean, or it that feature is available on i9192. Can somebody please clarify this?
Last question is about SMS. If I receive a message to SIM1 (for example), will I always reply from SIM1 too? Or will it let me choose between both SIMs?
Thank you very much for your help.

Hello SilviuMik,
First of all, thank you very much for your quick response.
In the screenshots it looks like you can always choose to call from any SIM, but I’m wondering if there’s a way to call back from the same SIM that received the call (obviously if it's active). Could you please tell me if this is possible?
In one of the screenshots contact "A" shows a pop-up window asking you to select a SIM, but I don’t really know if this means that contacts can be associated to a preferred SIM, or if this window appears after pressing the call button with preferred SIM card for voice calls configured as "Always ask". Would you please clarify this too?
In your screenshots it seems that the each SMS can be sent with any SIM. Isn't that a problem? For cumbersome people like me, you could easily send SMS from the wrong SIM. As you've been using the phone for some time, what do you think about this? Is this feature comfortable/powerful of is it a mess?
Thank you for your patience.
Best regards.

Not without a third party app, or like i said in the next question, if u have 1 SIM always assigned as calls then from that sim

Instead of Always Ask u can configure SIM 1 or SIM 2 in that menu . Maybe u have one sim for calls only and one for data only If u select SIM1 for example that pop-up won`t appear anymore

Depends on your fingers i never sent sms from wrong number

Your explanations were really helpful.
In my opinion, these Samsung dual devices are not mature enough yet, but they will be hopefully better in the future.
Thank you very much!
I have retired my S3 from service, and now have a shiny new S5 However, I would still like to continue using my S3 for WiFi based use. Problem is, it still contains my old phone number that has been transferred to my S5.
I want to change the number on my retired phone to that of either my home number, or my Google Voice number, so that certain apps that require a phone number would work. ie, Vonage Extensions. It cannot be installed on two phones with the same number.
Can anyone help me with this, or do I need to take it back to my service provider and have them change it?

Depending on your use of your S3, you could consider enrolling in FreedomPop free plan - for a one time byod fee of $20, you'd get 1GB of data every month for free on your phone, as well as a dedicated phone number. Helpful if you get the S3 out of wifi range every now and then.
Otherwise, you could consider replacing Vonage Extensions by Hangouts - it will allow you to make 100% free wifi voiceip calls to any phone in US and Canada while using your google voice number, as well as send/receive texts from the gv number.

Thanks Merudo for the insightful advice. I do already have the gv dialer installed, and it works extremely well. I really like the Vonage extensions because it mirrors my home phone number when using it to dial out. I don't want to confuse my friends/relatives with yet another phone number (ie, my GV number).
After 4 months, I finally figured out a way around this.
I first changed the phone number on my out-of-service S3 phone by changing the MDN and the MSID to my GV phone number.
Then I reinstalled the Vonage Extensions app and tried to choose WiFi only. For this to happen, it needed to call a number to verify it was a valid number, using the default dialer (which won't work, since the phone is out of service). I immediately noted and called that number from my active phone, using my GV number in Hangouts.
Tada!! It then successfully activated my out-of-service S3 for Vonage Extensions calling over WiFi!! Yay!
Check your S3
by going into
System Settings > About Phone > Status
It might still have your phone number.
You can reset this
by pressing ##786# in the dialer
in a touchwiz ROM.
You would need to know your MSL code
for the password to reset.
I would do this if you were
to sell the S3 on eBay.
##MSL#
That's how you manually change the phone number and msid.

I originally bought this phone from Ebay, and reset the MSL to 000000 shortly after it arrived. About Phone/Status does now indeed show my GV phone number.
