[Q] Install Stock Recovery - HTC One X

Hi Experts,
i had rooted my phone a while back and installed custom recovery , and was on stock ROM.
Due to issues on official emails, i had to unroot my phone and relock it.
All is fine, however i did miss 1 step, that is, i still have a diff recovery on it, and i want to install my stock recovery back so that i can install OTA.
I do have the stock recovery (i think).
So is theree a quick way to do that without unlocking the bootloader again or without losing any data?
Let me know PLEASE!
Regards
Manas

as i can remember even if your bootloader is unlocked as long as you have stock recovery you can update.. just make sure you have a backup of all your data.

Phew.. So my booloader is RE LOCKED now, and i just want to install the stock recovery... without losing data or unlocking the bootloader........possible???

No.
To flash recovery, your bootloader must be unlocked. Do you still have unlock.bin file?

As far as I remember you will lose data. Make a backup (Titanium, or similar app) of important data, unlock the bootloader, flash stock recovery, reboot, restore data.
And keep the bootloader unlocked!

damn!! if i keep my bootloader unlocked, i keep getting an error from an anitvirus kinda tool tht i had to install so that i receive my office emails. thanks for your help, will do this when i have a lot of time..

[Q] How to lock root to install OTA update.

Hi.
Basically I want to install/update OTA without loosing my stuff.
I understand to do this I must relock root. I tried Guru_Bootloader_Reset_1.0 but when I use TWRP the touch screen stops working and I cant check the "agreement" box. I can still maneuver with the hardware buttons but I cant check the box to complete the installer.
I also tried REVONE, that doesn't work either.
How can I update without loosing my stuff ?
Thank you.

Just flash stock recovery and lock the bootloader if you are S-On.
If you are Soff, just flash stock recovery. Leave bootloader unlocked
As far as I know you can install the OTA update without any problems even if you are rooted and your bootloader is unlocked. All you need to do is flash the stock recovery from bootloader instead of custom recovery and allow the system update to install. The recovery can be downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376. Note that you will loose your root when you apply the OTA update and you can re-root your device without any problem.
Will I lose any data ?

This is just like doing an OTA update. You shouldn't loose any data but taking a backup is always a good thing to do.

Ok, So far I managed to remove the flags, remove root and uninstall su.
I cant figure out what to flash or how to update ota.
I tried the steps from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235
I failed at flashing
CID O2__102
1.12.206.17 - TWRP Thanks to shorty1483
1.12.206.17 - TWRP Thanks to Sensor1
1.54.206.5 - TWRP Thanks to Sensor1
and stock recoverys.
Do i have to flash and then use a recovery ? How do I proceed further ?
I have the stock android, I just want to be able to update OTA automatically like nothing happened and remove TWRP.
Thank you so much for your time.

Then that is the stock TWRP backup and stock recovery you want to restore, from the thread I posted. After you restore to stock, it should OTA update to Marshmallow.

Does this process involve turning on the phone in recovery mode. Because I can't do that. my mobile shows a red triangle and exclamation mark when I try to start in recovery mode

In s-on devices, it is not giving access to stock recovery directly. The first coming exclamation mark is normal. In that occasion if you want to access recovery; while pressing power button, press volume up. However you don't need to go to recovery.
1) If your bootloader is locked, unlock it. http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/
2) flash twrp (TWRP 2.8.7.0)
3) restore backup (4.16.401.13)
4) flash stock recovery (4.16.401.13)
5) check updates
(the thread given by redpoint73 includes information A-Z to stock)
thank you both redpoint73 and umesh. Really appreciate the help. Im gonna try this and return to you if i have any problem

That is the stock (official HTC) recovery; from there you can press power+vol up to show the stock recovery menu options. But as a previous reply mentioned, stock recovery isn't going to help you (restore stock TWRP backup, etc.). For that, you need to unlock the bootloader (if not already) and install TWRP custom recovery.
The bootloader screen, near the top, will indicate whether the bootloader is LOCKED, RELOCKED or UNLOCKED. If LOCKED or RELOCKED, unlock it as mentioned in Post #9 above.
My guess is that the previous owner restored stock recovery in a botched attempt to return the phone to stock. By "botched" I mean they didn't properly restore the stock ROM to remove root. But following the guide I linked previously will do that properly.

Just install TWRP, restore the previously indicated stock TWRP backup, install corresponding stock recovery, and update OTA.

Did the wipe the partitions indicated in the guide? If so, I can't see what can be causing the issue. Proper stock ROM for your firmware, with proper wipes, I haven't seen these issues.

The version we told you to restore is not for a demo version. I don't think you restored as you were advised, at least not properly.
Also, factory reset only wipes user data, it doesn't affect anything with the ROM; and you should not be mistaken in thinking it would.

Any one knows how to re-lock the bootloader of one plus 3???

How to remove that screen on boot up after unlocking one plus three??? :/
If you read the screen properly ull see the instructions on the screen itself do everything the same way you unlock the bootloader just instead of oem bootloader unlock type oem bootloader lock ...but make sure you're on stock rom and recovery

two questions different answer but I would bet if there is a way to remove nag screen a google search would find it. Keep searching threads
there is no reason to re-lock bootloader, its still under warranty through Oneplus even with unlocked bootloader. but if u really want to
1. fastboot flash stock recovery (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img) (make sure u download the file, its somewhere here on the forums
2. reboot and then reboot to fastboot (fastboot oem lock) (i have never re locked a bootloader so i am not sure if it will rewipe ur device again like unlocking it does)
3. boot to OS and get developer options again and uncheck OEM Unlock (do this last)
i would not recommend re locking since it wont void warranty and seemed like a lot people screwed up their devices relocking it, but they also unchecked the oem unlock before flashing stock recovery, also i am not sure if step 2 is needed, i would just make sure u flash stock recovery 1st before doing anything

What part of be on stock OS is so hard to understand?
If you're not absolutely stock when relocking, you will brick your device.
Then good luck trying to enable OEM Unlocking when not being able to boot.
As someone who messes with their phone, relocking your bootloader is one of the worst possible things you can do.
If not done correctly, it WILL brick your device.
If you want to go back to stock, then surely do, there is absolutely no need to relock your boot loader unless you're selling your device to someone or if you're looking to pass SafetyNet for Android Pay or something.
Also, you cannot have the cake as well as eat it. You need to have an unlocked boot loader for root, exposed, etc. There is no way around this.
Phones previously had to be reverse engineered and exploited to gain root access, now OEMs freely allow unlocking.

I hope you can read this. I'm not a noob and I am looking to relock my bootloader because I am going to sell it. The person wants it fully stock so I need to relock the bootloader in order to regain access to official Ota updates.
I need to be on complete stock (stock recovery and rom) right? Would you please kindly point me to where I need to go to download the stock Rom and recovery. There's some TWRP flashable OTA zips on Oneplus forums that restore stock Rom and recovery but I want to be sure that that is enough and that I don't end up bricking my device for something as stupid as this. Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Follow all instructions from here (except I would suggest sideloading the StockROM before relocking).

I followed the same guide posted on OnePlus Forum to re-lock my bootloader. Just follow them, it works.
Here is that link from OnePlus forum.
1. I restored my stock rom backup from TWRP
2. Flashed Stock recovery
3. fastboot oem lock
4. Sideload stock ROM
Done.
I unlocked because stock ROM I felt was much stabler and hassle free. Have rooted and played with custom ROMs enough in my Nexus 5 days. Just too much stress and can end up with non-working features. Might root again in future if I find something compelling in custom ROM.

If you unlock device, you will still be able to apply OTA. If you rooted by modifying the /system partition, OTA will fail, but if thou rooted using systemless method, you can apply OTA.
Iam on stock OOS 4.0.3 and i was plagued by the same error
--adb sideload the complete rom (with locked bootloader)-- method worked for me.
Previously i had unlocked bootloader and was on freedom OOS 2.3 with TWRP and then i realized that stock updates are better.
So i installed stock recovery and and tried to flash Stock Firmware 4.0.3 through sideload command and it failed.
then i installed TWRP and then installed stock OOS 4.0.3 and it installed fine but with some error.
Then i installed stock recovery
So i rebooted it and after long time it was installed but then i started getting dm_verity error and also i was frustated with unlocked bootloader message.
So i locked my boot loader first from fastboot oem lock and then sideloaded the stock 4.0.3 again and it really worked.
So now i am on stock rom and stock recovery and no more dm_verity error or unlocked bootloader msg to wait for 5 secs...
Now iam really loving my Oneplus 3..

Just unlocking bootloader for now?

Upgrading from my OPO so going to try out stock for a bit.
Best course would be unlock Bootloader right away and later on if I want TWRP and root, that's the simple part, correct?
Unlocked bootloader doesn't trip anything in terms of ota or secure apps. That's only from custom recovery/root?

As long as you keep your stock revocery you will get official OTA's.
Unlocking the bootloader will erase all your internal data. But after that, you are free to flash custom recovery as soon as you want to.
Like I already said, you can stay with stock recovery and get all OTA's.

You can connect your OP5T to your computer and transfer all your files (music, pictures, contacts) to your computer.
Unfortunately Titanium Backup does not work without root. Otherwise you could save your apps+appdata too.

Ahh, that's what I assumed. I'll have to restart again at some point. I might do it when official TWRP gets released for 5T. At this point I'll just continue to use it normally (even though it hurts me to use it without ios emojis, adblock etc etc)

[RECOVERY]Honor 7x stuck in bootloop

Hello everybody, my Honor 7x BND-L21 entered in a bootloop (i haven't flashed custom rom or anything else).
I'd like to solve this problem without loosing my data.
Is there any way to unbrick the phone without loosing data?
Or is it possible to flash a custom recovery (TWRP), make a full back-up, and after that unbrick the phone?
My phone isn't rooted and the bootloader isn't unlocked.
Thanks

To touch on the custom recovery idea... To install a custom recovery, you would need an unlocked BL. Even if your device was still able to do the BL unlock command (they locked that down a long time ago, but some have been able to downgrade to a version that allows it still), it wipes the device on BL unlock. Since you are looped, you can't get into ADB to use pull commands for example. I think you are out of luck regarding not loosing data.

OK thanks for your answer. And what about flashing the stock rom of the device through the standard procedure (I saw that I should copy the rom in a folder named dload, press simultaneously volume + and -, and it will flash the rom, am I right?). Is this going to erase all data too?
Moreover, I was trying to connect the phone to the laptot through ADB but I can't see the device when I send the command <adb devices>. Can I solve this or this was what you were talking about here: "you can't get into ADB to use pull commands for example" ?

ADB only works with a booted ROM, so yeah that was what I was talking about. I'm not sure about that method of flashing stock. I've only seen the update procedure through system and not manually.
