Hello, When I put the phone on speaker and or use a headset it lowers the voice for the other people. I can hear them fine both ways. It is just during headset or speaker phone calls. It works perfectly fine when talking normally through the phone. Hardware problem? I just noticed it, can I exchange it through sprint? Please advice! I am on 4.2.2 d3rp rom still on ZV8!
When you put it on speaker phone, it uses the secondary mic at the top of the phone instead of the normal mic at the bottom. If you look at the top of the phone there is the infrared port on one side and then a small hole on the other side. That small hole is for the secondary mic. Try talking into the top of the phone when on speaker phone and that should solve the problem. Headset issue I can't help you with. Each headset normally has a built in mic usually near the volume controls. Its probably bad or you're just not directing your voice into that mic or something.
I've tried to do that but still the other person can't hear me thank you for your input tho!

Hi all~
Does anyone know how to test the secondary mic next to 3.5mm headphone jack? it should be working while the noise-canceling.
my secondary mic had been accidentally poked.....
How can I test it to see if it still working properly?
Thanks in advance.
Record some audio and tap each end of the phone then play it back with headphones plugged in. Should here the tapping clearly in either ear. If you only hear it in left or right then one Mic is in a pickle.

Thanks, the sound can be hear in either ear.
Is it means each mic can only record either left or right sound channel?
Hi,
New to this forum. Hope someone can help me out. I've got a new Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 unlocked running Android 4.3, and I've got a problem with the mic. I can hear the other person during calls, but they can't hear me, unless I put my mouth directly over the mic hole and speak into it (so I have to be holding the phone perpendicular to my mouth and speak to the bottom of the phone). Even putting my mouth close to the home button doesn't work; the phone has to be perpendicular to my mouth. I'm getting same issue with Voice recording (ie. no sound recorded unless I put my mouth directly over the mic hole at the bottom), but the phone has no problems picking up audio when I record videos.
Things I've tried that don't work:
- Soft reset, and hard factory reset
- Turning off Motion completely (so proximity sensors everything are blanked out anyway or off)
- Noise reduction is off
- TTY is off
- Turn all sounds off (under Accessibility) is unselected
- Wifi calling is off
- Using speakerphone doesn't work (they can't hear me either)
- No pinky or anything blocking the mic
- I've tried cleaning out the mic hole with a needle but nothing comes out. Not sure if there's a specific way of doing it, but I gently put the needle in and jiggle it about, then withdraw it, but nothing comes out. For reference, I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 that's 2 years old with dust around its mic hole and I have no problems whatsoever with calls on that).
I can't downgrade to any other firmware cos mine is stuck on Android 4.3, and I'm just short of disassembling my phone and seeing if there really is anything physically blocking the mic hole that the needle maybe didn't clear. What I don't get is, if it were really a physical blockage of the mic hole, wouldn't that also affect the audio recording when I take a video? Audio is loud and clear when I record a video and narrate with the phone at half-arm's length from me...
Any help most appreciated!
Thanks!
Maybe something loose that is only connecting when you hold it certain ways. Have you considered replacing the Mic? I believe the part is only a few bucks.

You are not alone having this issue with 4.3. I too have this issue read
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2789017
my thread on same issue and try flashing 4.1.2 Rom in recovery (not to go for full Rom through Odin which may result in brick) and see if your issue remains
I am also on latest bootloader and modem and using 4.1.2 and don't have this issue on older Rom

Do you have headphones plugged in when this issues occurs? I've had issues with people hearing me during a call when I have headphones plugged in; unplugging them solved the problem.
If not, try plugging in headphones when you're in a call and see if that changes anything.

No I don't use head phones and without headphones I am having call issue on all TouchWiz 4.3 roms only on outgoing calls but incoming calls I don't have any issues and also on AOSP Roms also mostly no issue
Thanks for your replies. Sorry have been busy with other things and was using my older S2 since the S3 was giving me problems.
Anil2653, what do you mean by flashing 4.1.2 Rom in recovery? Do I need to root my device to do this? Or what are the specific steps?
TIA!
Hello,
have a problem with my HTC 10 when I make standard call there is no any problems, but when I switch call to loudspeaker people tell that they can't hear me, phone usually lie on the desk during this calls.
Is this hardware issue, or software? I use Viper ROM. This phone have two microphones right, which one is used with loud speaker call?
Hello, the same speaker like without Loudspeakermode. Try another ROM at first Stockrom, shouldn't help this i recommend to contact your seller.
speaker no matter if phone is at the ear or call is in "speaker" mode works without any problem,
my problem is with microphone but only on "speaker" mode because then other side can't hear me.
to resolve it, I've bored out the microphone hole on the bottom of the case enough to make sure the mic is fully exposed and that appears to have done the trick.
Mi Max 32GB V8.1.4.0.MBCMIDI
The caller will not hear me, but when turn on the speakerphone, the caller hears me well. In the service menu microphone tests everything works.
When I record my voice recorder.app everything works well. NOT working only during a call, in Skype not working too. Maybe you know how to fix this problem. Maybe this is software bug ? or broke the microphone ?
p.s. Root installed
Still problem
Hello,
This may be because of Camera issue, there are two microphones in the phone, one is the upper one next to the Earphone Jack and one at the bottom next to Speaker. When we are making a movie from the camera in Landscape mode, phone is switching to the upper microphone, (this is a noise reduction microphone) and when we make a move in Portrait mode, this is switching back to the bottom mic, somehow, when are closing the camera from a Landscape mode, phone is not switching back the mic to the bottom one, and still set for the upper mic, causing a very low sound going out for the phone call, as we are speaking at the bottom and the mic is at the upper portion. When you are turning the speaker, the bottom microphone is turning on, hence the voice is clear at the other end. Try doing a little trick, switch on your camera, record a movie in PORTRAIT MODE for 2 to 3 second and close it. Now try again doing a call, to my understanding this will work, as this works for me. Please update if this works for you as well. Best Regards

THis landscape-portrait camera trick doesn't work on my phone.
My upper microphone works (noise reduction mic works in loudspeaker voice microphone mode). But bottom mic doesn't work. I replaced this mic, then i replaced bottom board and its flex. Nothing helps.
1.8V comes to the mic.
So here is the problem. I have tried talking to Google Support and also LG Support. Not under warranty anymore. I have heard several different people mention problems with their mics in calls, be it incoming or outgoing. I have done several things to try to fix this problem; flashing stock firmware and upgrading thru OTA's, clearing cache, rebooting every day, flashing custom roms, modifying the build.prop, opening the device and checking for physical damage. To my knowledge this phone has 3 microphones that are used for actual speaking and background noise reduction. When I opened the device everything looked ok on what I assumed were the mics (the tiny square bits soldered to the logic board at the top and the bottom). I assume these were just going bad and finally gave out on me. Has anyone had any experience getting these fixed or repaired? Is there any software based approach I can look into? I am really tired of using my speakerphone in every call. I assume I am not the only person with this problem.
If anyone can shed some light on this or help in anyway I would appreciate it
Thanks!
I would start by describing the mic issue you are experiencing during voice calls.
Haven't had any myself.
No one can hear me using the microphone, as soon as I switch to speakerphone the other party is able to hear me.
I've read mics can stop functioning if you try and clean the phone with compressed air. As far as fixing or replacing a mic I am unable to provide assistance.
Well rats. Hopefully someone can shed some light on getting this fixed. I do have some soldering experience but I don't even know how this translates via the logic board. Anyone that has more information the help would be awesome. Thank you for your time though previous posters.

I have this problem as well, but also all media volume can't be heard through the speakers. I've personally cleaned and replaced the unit and nothing works, I just have to choose speaker and start talking, else use a headset or a bluetooth mic
Same problem, no solution yet.
Think that is a software/driver/app combination bug.
When Iam in call hardly can anyone hear me, if I cover top mic - then im heard again (proof that bottom mic is working).
Top mic is used to cancel background noise, phone interpret your voice as background noise and volume it down. That way nobody can hear you.
When I cover top mic - no background noise detected and my voice is heard again.
Question is why top mic detect legit voice as background noise?
Same problem here. Can't use microphone normally on any sort of voice call. I have to change to speaker for people to be able to hear me. I'm not sure if I still have warranty so if it's a software problem I might be able to fix it by myself.
