Should Note 3 be slightly bigger?

For those who got this as a pseudo tablet? its been almost 6 weeks I got the beauty and about 2 weeks since I got the allshare cast, and I haven't touched my roku or asus media player
Note 2 is everything for me, after using it so much, the screen size is normal to me ( compared to my previous S3 ) but I really don't mind it being slightly bigger - about 6"

Cnet: Galaxy Note 3 with 6.3-inch display reportedly in the works

The rumor is that 6.3" will be the next screen size. Whether this is true remains to be seen. Too early to tell.
With a 16:9 aspect ratio for the screen, that would mean the width of the phone would grow approximately 0.375" more, or 3.5". (Note II's width is 3.125".)
Personally, I actually like the idea. I probably wouldn't even mind a 7" (Approximately 7.25" if I go by 9cm x 16cm.) screen if they keep to the edge thinness around the screen, if not thinner. That should allow the growth of the phone to be as minimal as possible. Of course, I'd stop at 7" for the max size I wouldn't mind on my phone. Any larger and many people will definitely start having problems holding their phones edge to edge.

General Thread - thus the question
I am basically saying that since many of us got this as pseudo tablet, it would be nice to have a slightly bigger screen so we could read ebooks etc
When I got the S3, screen seemed big and then we get used to it, same with the note - but we could increase that threshold to perfection

Its still a phone man...are u kidding? if thats the case u gonna expect them to make it 8 inches next year???

I know but much better than carrying 2 devices, what I am saying it would satisfy being a tablet and a regular phone if it was slightly more bigger
I have no issues carrying it now, hands have plenty more room

I wouldn't care for a larger screen so much as I would like Samsung to natively support a better pixel density so that I could fit more onto the screen. Something like 182 instead of the default 240(?).

If they kept the phone the same size, but increased the screen size, it would not be too bad.

I'm wondering if the next Note could eliminate the home button. That would be one way of increasing screen real estate, without making the device too much larger. It could go fully-touchscreen, as Jelly Bean devices are supposed to be, anyway. However, I think the home button has sort of become synonymous with the Galaxy line of devices, so it may stay. I would love 6 - 6.3" inches on the new Note. I wouldn't have issues with mobility.

Then its like the tablet, but seriously, slightly more bigger would be sweet

I would like to see no home button and screen extended all the way up and down. 6"-6,3" screen would be awesome.

I am fine as is hope they don't make the size of the phone bigger. If they can make screen bigger but keep same size I am OK with that.

I used to think I'd want a Note 3 to have a 6" screen with small bezels and no home button. Now that I've played with my Note 2 for a week, I'm guessing I'll prefer going the other way. I'd rather have a 5" 1080p phone with very thin side bezels, a thin top bezel, and a thicker bottom bezel with 5 configurable capacitive buttons (I have a Nexus 7 and I like most things Nexus, but disagree with the move to on-screen buttons which most of the time waste real-estate). I'd be fine with a thicker phone too though to get an even bigger battery - heck, I'll take 4000 mAh or more, now that I know what 3100 can do. I knew the Note 2 was long and had tried mockups before buying, but now that I have the real thing, it's a bit too long for me - not a deal breaker, but I no longer think about going bigger. By the time 5" 1080p screens are common items and I upgrade from the Note 2, I hope there will be lots of options, some with pens (which I'm not convinced I need, but an interesting thing to try), and ideally, some without Touchwiz which I really don't like so far - I'm sure I'll be trying a ROM with a more Nexus like experience before I'm done with this phone. Too bad Google missed the ball (for me) so badly with the Nexus 4, I would have liked to consider it. Maybe the Nexus 5 or whatever the first 1080p Nexus will be called will be better.

This has absolutely no chance in hell of happening, for a plethora of reasons.
1) It would be going backwards, when sales of the Galaxy Note line have proven that people like phones with really large screens, so Samsung backtracking to anything smaller that 5.5" inches would be stupid, and would eventually run into product overlap.
2) The product overlap would come with the rumored Galaxy S4. The S4 is strongly rumored to have a 5" screen. There's probably a good chance it will also have 1080p, but I sort of doubt it. At any rate, there would be no business case for Samsung to have two products that are virtually identical. The S III already shares a significant amount of the Note IIs features, sans having an S Pen. You make a Note III with a 5" screen and you'll just have an S4 with an S Pen. That's utterly asinine.
3) I'm willing to bet the vast majority of people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a 720p screen and a 1080p screen. This is just the hype for this year. Seems like every year there a new hype geared towards sheep and ill-informed people. One year it was 3D technology. Last year it was quad core technology. This year its 1080p. Another year photo pixels were all the rave. Another year Apple's retina display was all the rave. Pretty much none of those things mean jack s*** in the grand scheme of things. I remember when I was going to purchase a new 40"+ 3D LED TV. I read many reviews to see if there was a huge difference between 720p and full-1080p HD. EVERY review stated that the only time the difference between 720p & 1080p became noticeable and worth considering, was when you had a screen larger than 40". So, if that's true, there's no way in hell anyone is seeing a noteworthy screen difference in a device as small as a cellular phone. At one point, I had a 720p Plasma HDTV and a 3D LED HDTV, simultaneously. To be honest, I was more impressed with the display on my 720p plasma, than I am on my 1080p 3D TV I ended up keeping. And I only kept the 3D television because it was packed with more features that sort of leveled the playing field.
If you desire as smaller phone, the great thing about Android, is that there's seemingly an endless array of phones to choose from. Get an S III or S4 or DNA or Nexus. Sounds like the Note II isn't a good fit for you.

Currently I'm sure I can't tell the difference between 1280x720 and 1920x1080 for a 5" display. When I finally break down and admit I'm old enough to use reading glasses (which I should have done years ago as my close focus distance moved from 7" where it used to be to 13" now), then I suspect I will be able to tell the difference when holding my phone closer than 8". Other than focus, I have no issue holding my phone that close and I'll be able to get that much more detail into my brain (from maps, text, whatever). You can call 1080p hype if you want, but I think it is still actual progress. I don't know what photo pixels are, and I was not interested in 3D myself, but 1080p I am optimistic about.
Sorry if I'm not following thread rules or something - I'm just saying what I was thinking. I agree that Samsung Note 3 will quite likely go bigger, especially if the S4 is bigger. Who knows, anything could happen by the time I get another phone - maybe the glasses concept will be so appealing, I'll go that route.
I chose the Note II because a) I wanted a 5" or more display, b) I wanted to try out the s-pen concept which I don't know if it will be for me or not till I try, c) I wanted a big battery, and SD storage, d) I don't want to change carriers since as much as I don't like AT&T for many reasons, I'm on a family plan which I don't want to change and they are the only carrier with good coverage over my work campus. I ruled out the Nexus 4 and the Droid DNA pretty fast though I looked at them. I absolutely didn't need LTE and my data experience with AT&T around Los Angeles for a few days and Las Vegas for a few days has been very unimpressive - no better than my previous 3GS iPhone. Hopefully that will improve as the network improves.
Anyway, it's pretty early to speculate now - I better get back to figuring out how to use my phone to get my core iPhone use cases working again: podcasts, visual voicemail (both of these use cases require installing add on software I've found), offline topographic maps (I have 3 programs I've been trying on the Nexus 7), and a few other things. For ROMs, the HyperNote sounded the most interesting to me, but it seems like the AT&T model won't run many ROMs yet (e.g. no HyperNote yet) - I hope this is some transitional issue as porting ROMs from the International to the various carrier versions (which is a huge annoyance to me that this fracturing even exists) is worked out.

This. I wouldn't want anything physically bigger, but if they can remove more bezel (and NOT remove physical buttons), That would be sweet.

[Q] Need your input before buying!

First of all I would like to begin by stating I am an Android hardcore fan and by no means an Apple fanboy.
With that out of the way I need your help.
I want to buy an android tablet. I was very excited and pre-ordered the new Nexus 9 (currently own the Nexus 7). However after reading the first reviews that came out that talked about the device having serious screen light bleed and overheating I quickly changed my mind and cancelled my order.
So the next thing I did was try to find another good android tablet. I really like the hardware Samsung offers but I really HATE touchwiz. I like my Android stock as google intended. Yet at least in my opinion there is no other good offerings for 10" android tablets out there apart from the Galaxy Tab S (ok I really liked Sony Xperia Z2 tablet but its almost impossible to find).
Never had anything made by Samsung before (tried to stay in the Nexus line of things) because I wanted to stay away from touchwiz and all the bloatware other companies inflict uppon android.
So I went down to a brick and mortar store to see the Galaxy Tab S up close and see if I liked it.
The hardware, build quality and screen are perfect! So here comes the bad part.
I put it to the lag test. I restarted the device, cleared the memory from running apps, removed all widgets and shortcuts from the desktop and loaded up Chrome. Opened two tabs. One for the Verge and one for Phonearena. Waited for the sites to load and when finished tried to quickly scroll through. The thing choked! I mean it lagged and could not keep up with the scrolling. Parts of the website had to be loaded again while I was staring at a blank screen waiting for the tablet to catch up to my scrolling. I do this with my Nexus 7 and the thing keeps up like a champ! I would expect that a device with the specs of the Tab S would fly.
I tried a nearby ipad air (not even 2nd gen) and scrolling was smooth as butter with no lag at all. I also then realised that there was about 10 apps running in the background on the ipad as I had forgot to clear the memory.
Don't know if this is just a chrome problem but I'm really nervous about the lag on this device. And yes I am very picky when it comes to such things. Even the slightest hickup will drive me crazy!
I don't want to buy an ipad cause as I said I want an android device.
What would you do if you were me?
Would you take your chances with the Nexus 9, wait for another tablet to come to market or even go for an ipad?
I am also considering using different roms on the Tab S but its kind of a big risk as it costs a lot of money and I am not sure how good other roms will work on this device.
Anyway sorry for the long post and I am waiting for any answer you give me. Thank you.

Chrome is very laggy for some android devices. It has gotten worst after each update. Yet I dont use chrome and the stock browser works well. This has an amazing screen though.! I get 8 hours battery life while watching youtube. If you would like to root.. You can remove the lag from the bloatware. And the lag is also from touchwiz launcher. I use nova launcher and its much better. As of now we do have a unoffical CM11 custom rom. And as of now android L should be coming within a couple of months or maybe early 2015. So.. The lag maybe removed in android L but it may take a while for it to come to the tab s. The tab s is really light but the edges hurt my hand when holding it landscape. It is also great at watching youtube videos and the video fills up the whole screen vs the ipad doesnt. The screen is also bright at night even on 1/4 brightness. But as of roms, we have a few right now and are still being developed on. The thing is if you drop this tablet and the screen breaks.... You will have the pay for the whole screen, not just the glass. This tablet has knox too. So if you trip knox installing a rom then you have no warrenty. If your worried about price, try looking into some other samsung tablets! There are so many to chose from for your needs. Hope this helps!

First thing you want to do is get rid of chrome get firefox it's flawless on this tablet, next thing would be get a different launcher to replace touchwiz. I absolutely love nova prime but there are many to choose from so just do some research. Once you have done this your tablet will be way better then the ipad imo. If you want to root be warned in advance that there is this virtual circuit breaker called knox and once it trips you have voided your warranty something I wished I knew beforehand.

I was in a similar situation, I had a nexus 7 but used an LG g pad 8.3 and decided I would prefer the extra screen size as I do a lot of media watching. I was hoping for the nexus 9 but was put off by the 4:3 and its overall weight etc. so I opted, slightly reluctantly for the tab s 8.4.
I also hate touchwiz and instantly swapped out the launcher to nova, alas I don't like google now launcher on tablets as it messed up the bbc weather widget... The system does also lag at times and I did also notice it on chrome on some sites, it would just not do anything until it was all loaded up. I used the beta which seemed a little better and just put up with it. Its weird though as it flies through things like app installs but chokes on things like pressing the home button. Now personally I dont care, its just a stutter but its there.
So sadly there is not a perfect solution at the moment, the nexus 9 seems to have its issues which I hope quickly clear up. The tab s is probably the best bet, but its also got its issues. I do hear they are bringing out a version with a better snapdragon chip which might help.
it does have an amazing screen though, which makes me forgive most of its issues! not the no led notification though, I wont forgive them that omission My 8.4 came with a £50 play voucher (well will when it arrives) and that made the decisions easier for me, the relative cost came down into the worth a punt bracket. While im glad I did, its a shame there is little out there for the larger screens for those who want a top notch product with zero flaws.

I was on the nexus 9 fence for quite awhile. I even order and cancelled THREE times!
The Samsung Tab S is or was $404.00 on Amazon so I pushed the button and I'm more than happy with Me decision.
The screen is beautiful, Lollipop will be coming a little after the first of the year,and the build of the device (i bought the white one) is very nice.
The Tab S 10.5 is the best device for the money at this time.

I was so set on getting the Nexus 9, pre-ordered one on Amazon, but couldnt wait for delivery so I went to Best Buy and bought one there to play with while I waited for the Amazon order to be delivered. The one I bought from Best Buy had all the issues that some people had been talking about. Overheating was the first thing I noticed right from the start, then after I read the reviews about the back cover being easily pressed in and making a creaking sound, I noticed mine does the same thing, and the cherry on top was right after I bought it for the full $399 plus tax, HTC went and did their "fire sale" and slashed the price to $199 for a limited time/limited quantity and that confirmed my decision to return it and cancel my Amazon order, which I ended up doing reluctantly. Android 5.0 was pretty amazing though and the tablet, at least for me, was the perfect size for portability/comfort for media consumption/web browsing. (Although the 4:3 aspect ratio wasnt the best for netflix/movies both on the tablet and when mirroring the tablet to my tv via chromecast since when mirrored to my tv i would have two black bars on both sides of the screen
I had a nexus 7 before i bought the nexus 9, but it was just too small for web browsing. Screen was amazing on it and build quality was great. I bought an ipad air (first gen with A7 processor), and while the build quality is better than any other tablet in the market and it was an overall very fluid, smooth and lag free experience, iOS isnt for me. Too limited, not enough customizability and since i have an android phone I'd rather stick with an android tablet for better continuity and syncing between my devices. Played with the ipad air for a few days and returned it.
After returning the ipad I decided to pick up the samsung tab s 8.4 . While the screen is great, samsungs bloatware ruins the tablet IMO. Just like you, even the slightest stutter or lag drives me crazy . Chrome definitely was slow and scrolling was choppy. I had it rooted with CF-Auto root, and even after disabling/erasing samsung bloatware and changing the launcher to nova launcher, it still wasnt as fluid and smooth as I want so i returned it. The Tab S is feature packed, but still feels slow and laggy compared to the ipad air i tested for a couple days. With 3gb of ram and the pretty decent processing power, I expected ipad like performance but it definitely fell short.
Now I'm looking at picking up the ipad air 2 but first reading through the forums to see if there are ways to sync my android phone to the ipad.
Why cant we just have a tablet with:
8-9" screen with a 16:9 or similar aspect ratio, 1080p or higher resolution
SD card expandable
Vanilla/Stock Android 5.0 L
Front Facing Speakers
Front/rear facing cameras (not THAT important)
Good build quality
2-3gb ram
Good/fast processor
Sounds like I'm describing the Nvidia Shield from those specs (except for android 5.0), but even the Shield has had some negative reviews dealing with both wireless connectivity issues and build quality defects (cracking trim around the tablet due to heat)

I agree too. Like the tab s has a great screen but it kills the battery more as you watch videos. I have no lag because I used greenify to hibernate my apps after i exit them. For me only chrome lags because as of each update it gets worse. Firefox works without any lag. We now have cm11 which doesnt lag too.

Forgot to mention I also tried greenify on the tab s and also removed a bunch of other apps after i had it rooted and still got a bit of lagging. Again, I'm the type that if there is lag/stutters it just ruins the tablet consumption experience for me. I'm mostly using the tablet when I'm on the couch after a day of work/school and dont want to wait for apps to load up forever, sounds pompous of me but if I'm paying $400 + for a device i think its a fair expectation everything will work smoothly out of the box without having to do anything else to it/

I use tapatalk and news+ (rss) heavily and scrolling is jerky. I switched to nova launcher, I've rooted (voided my warranty) and debloated and greenified, the lag is still there.
I have an old iPad 3. Spec wise the S leaves it in the dust. And yet whenever I pick it up I'm amazed at how smooth it is, considering it's running an OS two generations newer than it is. The rss app which looks a lot like news+ (or news+ looks a lot like it) just scrolls through tons of images like it's nothing.
If it weren't for the screen I'd ditch this thing in a second. Basically the S is like a girl who is so hot you put up with all her craziness.

What tablet on the market has the next best screen? for me the quality of the screen is the draw. I was amazed when I saw one on display at Costco a few months ago. Part of the problem is I'm going out of town next week and really wanted a newer tablet to take on the road so I can leave my heavy laptop at home. I have an original Nexus 7 but it's pretty slow.

I hear that in South korea they remade the tab s a bit with less lag. But the new tab s is only in south korea. Like the model is different but has a bit better specs to handle the lag.

Lol! Well my girl (Tab s) has a great screen, good battery life, isnt crazy or laggy, has a nice looking butt(back cover), is rooted sadly because i made it happen, and runs really fast. She is really smart and is someone o can talk too. Idk about your girl(tab s) but mine is da bomb. Lol

wth is going on here anyway I also remember someone telling me the tab s was crap because of its benchmarks. which I remembered after watching a couple of hours of films on my flight on such a quality screen.
Yes it has some lag, big deal. Yes it would be better if it wasn't there but compared to the alternatives, there is nothing out there which ticks all the boxes and doesnt appear to be any on the horizon. Its a shame the price doesnt come down or they gloablly do the £50/$75 google play voucher as that makes it decent value for the specs. Its not just the screen, its the size and weight. Its the same damn weight as the nexus 7 and not much bigger at all, but packs in the 8.4 screen and QHD. all easy to hold in the one hand for long periods.
the nexus 9 is 425g compared to 300g of the 7 and tab s. thats almost 50% heavier and for me whos uses the tab for hours a day, thats a big deal. plus (im amazed to say this) I think lolipop is a step backwards. Its about looks and not function, which is the kinda thing I avoided apple for. 4.4.4 would be ideal for me, does the job perfectly without stupid design icons and white all over the place. anyway, thats my rant over

I really don't understand this obssession people have with smooth scrolling. One of the fist things I do with my desktop browsers is disable smooth scrolling. Whenever I let someone play with my N5 to check it out, the first thing they do is scroll through the 5 pages on my app drawer, and then proceed to say "yeah, it's pretty fast" before handing it back to me. Not once do they open Youtube or a game or some random app to see how the phone really performs.
Having said that, the Tab S LTE (10.5) performs like a champ. The S-AMOLED is absolutely gorgeous, build quality is top notch. Yes, it has a plastic back, but that makes it thin and light. I'm not complaining.
The only downside I can see is the dead custom ROM scene for the Exynos chip. That makes me effectively stuck with stock ROM + Nova Launcher for the life of the device.
I'm so satisfied with my purchase that I'm seriously considering buying a second one (8.4) to take with me on the road.

From what I read in another thread it sounds like Samsung is going entirely to Exynos, which means all of us with Samsung tablets will be SOL for ROM development. They'd rather us an in house chip than pay the extra cost for an outside chip. I love the build and screen, but don't really have any particular allegiance to Samsung.

I'm still waiting to hear more news about the Dell Venue 8 from the 7000 series. It is supposed to be released this month, but I haven't seen any recent information on it.

Thanks for the heads up on that dell tablet. I was really close to buying a tab s. That dell looks sweet though and it has the same screen. I wish we had a release date and price.

I don't get it. Everyone complains about Chrome in favor of Firefox. But I, on my Tab S 10.5, see Chrome being much smoother than Firefox, in terms of loading and scrolling the page. Chrome is flawlessly smooth in most pages (except some very heavy ones), Firefox however lags - even heavily - on pretty much most pages.

Hey I have a question to users of the Galaxy Note would you recommend the Galaxy Note? I am looking for a 10'' Tab with good Digitizer,good Screen, BatterieTime and good Price(about 300$). But im afraid of all the bad things I read about Performance. I wanted to get the Wifi Version(cheap and enough for University) or would you recommend other (newer) Tablets? Thanks for all Answears

Not sure what performance problems you are worried about. If you want to play high-end 2015 games on it, we I don't know because I don't do that. But for general usage, note-taking, or as an alternative to a visualiser for giving presentations (being left-handed I can't really use those things, as my hand covers what I'm writing) I can't say I've seen any problems.
I bought it because it was cheap and had Wacom digitiser support (the S-Pen), not for gaming or videos or whatever. For that it's fine. It's a bit faster than my early 2013 phone, despite having Samsung software (more bloat than other manufacturers I've used). I do however turn off all of their "smart" features - I don't know whether those things affect performance, they just didn't interest me.

If you want power and an active digitizer this is the tablet to go. If you want software support from the oem, this is a "no go".

Get an iPad

Surface 3 is not cheap.

Thus don't fit what OP is looking for.
For the original question yes I would recommend it. The besting you can do to it is root and install a custom ROM. I play XCOM, KOTOR, and a bunch of high end games. I do things on my Note that my family wishes they could do on their iPad. I have messed around with a Surface 3 Pro at BestBuy a couple times and thought it was laggy opening programs and the lack of a decent app store made it a no go.
For note taking I use Lecture notes much better then S-Notes.
Anyway that is my opinion.

thanks think im waiting till Octover and getting SM-P600 with octa core when tll then no new product arrive. The Tab S with S-Pen was nearly the perfect Product but had unfortunaly Resoultion of 1280x720 dont know what Samsung thought about giving a 300$ Product so bad Display.

Would you consider 5x an upgrade from a Galaxy S4?

Has anyone who has jumped from a Galaxy S4 to a Nexus 5X consider the switch an upgrade?
I am considering getting a midrange phone to last me 8 months until my next subsidized Verizon upgrade, I would insist on a replaceable battery for a phone being used for over a year and/or costing over ~$400, but the 5X looks usable at $329.
The specs look similar, and the 5X display is perhaps a downgrade, but I am sick of laggy S4 touchwiz, and it looks like installing CM on my baseband S4 will brick the phone.
I guess other options are the Moto X Pure or Nexus 6P but I have trouble reconciling spending even that much for a phone programmed to die by way of non-replaceable burnt out battery.

i switched from a 16GB S4 + 16GB SDcard to the 32GB 5X.
do i consider it an upgrade? yes, definitely. will i miss the SD-slot? maybe eventually. will i miss the removable battery? not if the battery does its job at least as good as the one in my S4, which still is almost as good as new (back in my S1 times i had to switch between 3 batteries).
as you already said, touchwiz just sucks and (imo) is ugly as hell. the nexus just runs so much smoother and doesn't come with all the bloat. the fingerprint sensor works perfectly and makes picking up the phone and actually using it quite a bit faster. rooting is easy, updates come quick, and i have a guarantee that i get those updates as soon as possible.
the camera is just amazing in comparison. the screen, while not being an amoled display does a great job and of course doesn't suffer from the movement shadows i had to deal with on the S4.
considering CM on the S4: well im one of the lucky ones who got his antenna fried, a bug that to my knowledge never got completely fixed or even fully acknowledged. the consequences being that cell reception was only ever acceptable on that one build.
i hope this helps. if it's worth to spend $329 on it for only eight months is entirely up to you.

The display is most certainly not a downgrade. OLED has come a long way in the last few years but the S4 generation OLED had subpar colour accuracy and brightness even for its day.
On the other hand the 5x IPS panel took the top mobile IPS panel spot away from the iPhone 6s which costs twice as much.

I really don't know what else to say about the Nexus 5X's display, because there's really nothing that can be criticized. I would certainly like if the brightness went up to 600 nits, but I would also prefer that it went to 6000 nits, and obviously that's asking a bit much. As far as LCDs go, the Nexus 5X has one of the best, if not the best that I've seen to date. At this point Google and their OEM partners are going to have to look to gamut as a vector of improvement, but only after proper color management is available at the OS level in order to avoid the problems that have plagued wider gamut displays, which have lacked suitable color management to properly map sRGB content into the wider color space.

Thanks. Yeah upon more research it looks like the 5x is definitely an upgrade from S4, I thought I had seen some benchmarks somewhere that showed them to be similar, must have been the geekbench site, but phonearena's benchmarks show the 5x to be far superior to the S4 in both performance and display, and not far behind the 6P. I should have pulled the trigger at $80 off in November, guess I will have to settle for $50 off.
Only reservation now is non-swappable battery and I'd have rather seen 3 GB Ram and 32 GB storage base, but should be fine for 8 months to a year.

It's an upgrade even coming from my S5.

I am coming from an SGH-I337 Galaxy S4 16gb. So far hardware wise it is an upgrade except for the screen. It has a very slight reddish yellow tint to it, not the crisp bluish white tint a galaxy has. Some people like it, I do not but I have heard it can be changed by rooting it. The only lag I have seen has been on websites with tons of graphics (slow to display pics when scrolling) other than that it is quick to move through screens and open apps. Have not tried any games. The finger print scanner is an awesome feature and works very well. I bought an unlocked N5X so it had nothing but bare bones Marshmallow 6 and it leaves a lot to be desired, if you were a custom to and used a lot of the apps that came with an S4 like gallery, memo, calendar, my files then you will need to find suitable replacements. The default keyboard in the messaging app has me all buggered right now, some genius thought it would be a good idea to put the microphone key right below the send key and for us fat fingered folks it is pretty much impossible to hit. I have not experienced any of the camera issues the N5X is notorious for yet, seems to run a little slow but nothing that is a show stopper.
Bottom line. Hardware is faster, screen is bigger with higher resolution, finger print reader is awesome, Marshmallow kind of sucks but that is my opinion, I bought it because it is a whole lot easier to root than the S4 and a whole lot easier to put custom ROMS on from what I have read. So far for me it is a trade off and the verdict is still out on whether I'm keeping it. Just wanted to offer my opinion because I know how much it sucks looking for a replacement with so many options avalible.

My problem is the device I want if I am paying flagship prices nobody makes.
I want swappable battery, stock android, snappy performance, AMOLED, fingerprint sensor, high screen to phone ratio (small bezel). So the Nexus 6P with a removable battery, or a Note 5 or S6 with removable battery and stock android, or LG G5 with stock android and an OLED, etc etc... every device is missing something on my list.
Pulled trigger on the 5X yesterday, just have to set it up on Verizon when it arrives, also ordered nano sim cutter.
And in Fall 2016 I'll probably get the best 2016 phone I can that has a swappable battery and hopefully fingerprint sensor, probably the LG G5.

But anyway, the N5X is definitely an upgrade over my previous S4. No question. Sure, it still has its quirks and bugs, but every phone does. Those aside, it's still a better phone overall. Especially for the price. The point made above about having a better IPS panel than the iPhone at half the price could be said for many of the features. When you think about it, it's quite impressive what you get for your money (by comparison of course).

Only $8 on amazon for aerb cutter and adapter, $4 more than the nano to micro adapter alone which I wanted anyway so I could save the S4 as a backup, and I kinda like diy projects anyway. Was pretty easy to cut.

I switched from a 16 GB S4 I9500 + 32GB SDcard to the 16GB 5X (take the 80$ rebate in NF)
Do I consider it an upgrade? Yes, definitely: More fluid, zero lag, Android 6.0.1 (+ Android 6.5 or 7.0 next Year), better battery optimizations, 4G LTE, Ambient Display (well, ocasionally), MAGNIFIC fingerprint sensor, easy to root/unroot, bye bye TouchWiz!
Will i miss the SD-slot? YES. 10 GB is not practical for store my MP3 Collection!
Will i miss the removable battery? yes, because I will have to resell my 5X in 1/2 years. With S4, a extra battery is only 8-15 $.
What I don't like from 5x?
- Poor speakerphone (very POOR) .
- MicroSD Slot, or 64 GB option
- USB-c port (I have to buy a USB-c to USB-a cable)
- Don't have earphones
- Poor devs support (for custom roms, Nexus 6P is more supported)

Yes, after just a day with it I can see this is true.
Display: Its great, no complaints whatsoever here, and coming from an amoled. The 5X colors do pop, just not quite in the radioactive way of galaxy amoleds. Colors are probably more accurate than an oversaturated amoled anyway, and I have an xrite calibrator eye if I want to mess with calibration.
OS: great, reminds me of my 2013 Nexus 7. No touchwiz, webpages load much quicker in chrome or firefox compared to S4. Nice to be back to stock android and know I can root easily if I want to. No problems popping in an activated cut down verizon sim either. Yet.
Fingerprint reader is awesome and a must for me on any mobile device going forward.
Performance seems just as snappy as the S6 floor models ive played with.
Got 1230 to 1290 single core and 3550 multi core geekbench 3. No noticeable lag yet. What sold me on the 5X other than xda was the youtubes where the guy opens a bunch of apps side by side on a 6P and 5X, there is one with a 5X vs S6 too, and the 5X does juuuust fine next to those.
Great phone, and at $330 i dont feel as cheated about non swappable battery as I would if I'd dropped $600 on a "flagship."
Oh and coming from an S4 i have no idea why reviews say the 5X doesnt feel "premium" or feels cheap. Anything but. The design is stylish and minimalist, and a case is going on anyway, but even without a case there is nothing wrong whatsoever with the industrial design and materials of this phone.
I do like the aluminum on my XPS 13 laptop, but whatever apple fanboy started the trend of 99% of tech reviewers saying every device that isn't 100% glass and metal feels "cheap" is nuts.

It's been only a couple days, but I'd probably pick the 5X over the Galaxy S6 so far, from what I've seen in stores. Especially if price is at all a factor, and maybe even if it isn't. My 5X is perfectly smooth, just the experience I was looking for. 1080P and stock android makes it perform better than QHD phones with bloatware.

I came from an S5 and I think it's a massive upgrade. I couldn't be happier with my purchase, personally.
The biggest things for me so far has been 1) Wireless ac (speeds are phenominal) and 2) no lag at all. I went through 2 S5's and both were laggy at times. I'm yet to see any of that with the 5x and I put it through its paces.
I think the camera output is much better, button layout is great (I had issues with accidentally hitting volume or power with S5's on both sides), and fingerprint reader is amazing.
I switched from Verizon to Project Fi last week also. Couldn't be happier with that as well. Going to cut my bill in half.
Luckily I haven't seemed to have any of the issues other are having here on the forums.

This is not necessarily the truth. There are plenty of ROMs and kernels for Bullhead. Some teams, like mine, just do not release until everything is tip-top.

I have the 16gb tmoblie variant S4 w a 64 gb card, which still has 30 gb free so I really didn't need 64gb after all, the 32 I had was sufficient. It just leads to hoarding too much crap on my phone. I have almost 100 albums on it I barely listen to for example, and TB backups from 4 years ago of **** that isn't even in the play store anymore lmao...
I got the 32gb from the Google store because 16gb is an insult and should be illegal in 2015. Even if you don't have 1gb+ games it gets eaten up fast.
The one thing I love the most about switching is not having to fight with that damn internal memory card partition anymore. What the actual **** was that about anyway? Thank god for Link2SD...
The camera is a bazillion times better, and the FULL camera2 api is the icing on the cake.
I will say that I beat the absolute hell out of that S4 and the screen never broke. It looks like the dog chewed the edges but that's it. Time will tell if the 5X can withstand my butterfingers as well!

Another note, I installed Fleksy keyboard and added the number row so the on screen keyboard resembles what im used to with Galaxy S series, i dont like having to long hold or hit the 123 key to get to numbers.
Fleksy seems to use more ram than it needs though, so i might look for other options. Google keyboard with the PC layout and number row makes the keys too tiny.
Google should just add an option to include a number row in the stock keyboard.

What is better than an Tab S? Anything comparable?

I still love the size and awesome screen etc of the original S1
Of course battery is an issue but i love the 8.4 inch form factor and thinness.

I picked the last one off Swappa over the weekend. I have had it before but thought the display wasn't that great. I still don't think it's as good as the S2 display despite being higher PPI. The only thing I think comes close is Huawei Mediapad M3. But it doesn't have as strong of a development community at least at this point. Everything else is comparable or better I think. Great display, but not AMOLED. Comparable performance, SD card slot, USB-C etc.

in term of what? Display & dimension? None to me. I even dumb my tab s2 8.0 and back to tab s 8.4 due to the screen dimension. Since i watch a lot of movie using the tab i hate the big black bar on tab s2. I really hope they did make the storage to 32GB last time... it will last far longer then the current 16GB space. But it more comfortable if you do reading on Tab S2. Gaming wise... well more less the same. It eat battery like nuts... hahaha... In android world the only thing that can give far more better experience IMO are Nvidia Shield. that's it.

Nothing it cannot be beaten in my opinion, It`s the oled display at 16:10 ratio and 10.5" size that makes it the best, the S2 and S3 have an 4:3 diplay, and if your primary use is video/movies it`s the best.

I am pretty happy with the 10.5 Tab S. It does have flaws, but I don't think it's worth to throw it away and buy a new tablet. However, if it dies, there is no way I am buying another Tab S again. I'd probably go for Lenovo's new line of Yoga Tab 3 Plus 10 inch tablets or for the Huawei mediapad M3. If the prices of the new Tab S3 drop down by the holidays, I'd consider one of those too.

I switched to the tab s3 from a tab s 10.5 last week. Loved my S but it started getting pretty laggy and Ive been waiting for months for something decent to come along and check all the boxes. I'm pretty happy do far, waiting for reviews until I decide on what case to get.
Also, Best Buy gave me $100 trade in for an old note 8.0 Att tablet I had laying around and it looks like I can get $150 easy for the tab s so that makes it easier to swallow.

And the S1 has stereo speakers in the correct location for watching a video in landscape mode, the S2 and S3 has both speakers on one end for use in an portrait mode, good luck getting a stereo effect with that when you are trying to watch a movie.
