A word about some of the complaints that people on the forums seem to be making

List of complaints that need to be addressed because people keep making threads on them:
1. The Camera is 5 MP.
Okay, anybody who things that megapixels = quality probably knows very little about photography. More megapixels in many cases introduces more noise, especially considering how small the camera is.
If you want to print photos at a letter sized at 300 ppi, invest in a REAL camera. A low end DSLR will blow any phone out of the water; the image sensor is several times as large.

Until we see this phone next to a Galaxy S2 and an iPhone 4S taking pictures in a controlled environment, we can't say that this camera sucks.
2. The pentile display
It is currently not possible to make a 1280x720 or 1280x800 RBG display at the size we want and if they made it bigger, it would be very expensive.

The Galaxy Note has reached a point where some people say that they cannot see the subpixels, so this phone should not be a problem.
The only real valid criticism that the screen has a "blue" tint. For those that are unfamiliar with OLED technology, blue subpixels have the shortest lifespan. This was a deliberate decision by Samsung to maximize screen life.
Overall, side by side comparisons indicate that this is a step forward from the GS2.
3. The SOC/GPU
I am also disappointed in the PowerVR SGX540, but given the circumstances, it is the best SOC they could have chosen. The only alternative would have been the Exynos 4210 (the 4212 uses a new 32nm process not available and is only "sampling" right now) or the Qualcomm Scorpion, with its Adreno 220, which is inferior in terms of both CPU and GPU.
Of particular concern is the new generation of more demanding games and the fact that this GPU needs to drive a 1280x720 screen.
We need to see some real benchmarks as ICS may have had some under the hood optimizations and how it stacks up to the Tegra 3, which will come out in a couple of months. The Tegra 2's GPU was by no means better than the lower clocked (btw, did I mention that this GPU is higher clocked than the one on the GS1?), SGX540 on the first generation of Galaxy S phones.
The OMAP SOC on board is native 1.5 GHz, so I'm sure that you will be able to overclock it back to native clockspeed. I fully anticipate 2 GHz+ mods to come out afterwards.
4. It's too big
Your opinion. I like big phones.
5. Plastic
Samsung's phones actually last pretty well. I have seen HTC's which get praised for their build break. A friend of mine owns a repair shop for phones. Apparently 90% of his smartphone displays that he repairs are iPhones, which also get praised. He is delighted that the new iPhone 4S shares the same design as its predecessor.
6. No SD Card
This is one I am also disappointed at. It's a trend in the Nexus phones right now. Google seems to be encouraging cloud usage. I dislike this one as well, because data is expensive and ICS specifically has data management tools reflecting this.
Somewhat mitigating this is that there are 32 GB versions available and that internal storage is faster than a class 10 SD card.
7. DAC and sound quality?
Unknown and I eagerly await the answer.
Will I buy this phone?
Actually, I am undecided. I want to see reviews first and hold it. I am also eagerly waiting to see what the DAC is. Come H2 2012, A15 parts and perhaps an RGB version of the 720p display are probable. I will however buy it if I can get a sweet deal.

Couldn't agree more on peeps complaining about the 5mp camera!! I have a 3.2mp Sony digital camera that is probably 10 years old. It isn't even a DSLR. But it takes far superior pictures than my 8mp camera on my Charge. Why? In a word, optics !! My old camera has a Zeiss lens on it. It is folly IMO to expect high quality pictures from a phone camera !! If you want to be a photographer, buy a camera !!

All valid points, was a good write up. I especially agree with the point about waiting to see it in the flesh.

I'm a zoom in shooter where does that leave me coming from a 4mp to a 8mp and back down to a 5mp

The issue I take up with the size is that it feels like there's a lot of blank and empty black space in not only the bezel (especially the bottom) but also with ICS. In general, the size and look of the device is both a love and hate. Sometimes I think it's gorgeous, and other times I think it's hideous. I think this is one of those "time will tell" things.

Not camera apps. A program to enlarge a picture there are some for professional use. You know there's still something called a PC .

I had the opportunity to play with one over this past weekend. In regards to size, if you have held an SGSII in your hand it is more or less the same size. Slightly taller, but not really enough that one could use the "won't fit in my pocket" argument. The screen looks fantastic and ICS is very smooth, even on the beta build it was running.
That being said, would I upgrade my SGSII for it? Still not sure. I will have to see if I get the fever when it is released and order one.

Most of these "it won't fit my pocket" arguments are troll posts from people who have no intention of buying the phone.
I have played for a bit with the Galaxy Note. It was big, but it did fit in my jeans with my keys inside.

Any difference in the feel between the two SGS2 -Nexus

So I've had a dozen different android phones but none without an SD card. How does this work? Does it have a partition to mimic the sd card? Im going to get this phone regardless, but want to know if I can transfer all my files over from the sd card on my current phone.

I can choose beetwen nexus or note... Which i should choose? Is non-external SD, software buttons or 5mpix camera bad? pls post your experience

non external SD is bad if you have a lot of songs and videos, which i don't. Software buttons are great as i am able to configure the buttons' color and placement. 5mp camera is good enough for my needs.

Galaxy Nexus would be my first choice. I was excited the VZW version was 32gb but really I don't even use most of it as I use Google Music to stream my uploaded music. I really am liking the on screen buttons more than the physical ones. As for the camera the zero shutter lag if awesome, I don't see why people are complaining about it as the 5mp is fine. So far I love my Nexus!!!

Note is a niche product for those that want a big screen. I would of gotten this if it had pentaband so I can import it on tmo, but after using Nexus for a while - I've come to the conclusion I wouldn't really be happy with the size of the phone.
The nexus is actually pretty big for a 4.3" screen phone as well, due to the massive bezel above and below the phone. But the fact that it's really a 4.65" screen and with custom roms, will likely be able to utilize the full screen for everything means it's a bigger bang for buck than any other 4.3" phone with soft keys. Try watching an HD video on it, you'll feel that the full screen size is actually really nice as is.

Now i have galaxy note and i now can refund and buy Gnexus.. But i like stylus but it is inaccurate. So not usable for drawing pictures.. Also have many MANY problems with screen (horuzontal lines,dead pixel etc... And also.. Can be Gnexus kept in warranty with locking bootloaders back? i am happy flasher and need warranty

I had the note, while very nice I just couldnt use it as my daily driver. Having that thing in my shorts pocket at the gym or out on a bike ride or a rollerblade was the reason. While it will fit in the pocket in an accident I just cant see it not getting busted. So I now have the GNex and love it.

I did not get the Note because it was not pentaband and therefore it would not work on TMoUS.
However, I am very happy with the Nexus...

If your hands are above average big, the Note might just be for you. For me, the Galaxy Nexus is just about big enough and anything bigger would be severely impractical.
The Note has a bigger screen, but the Nexus has roughly the same resolution and can render an equal amount of content in the browser and other places with equal detail.
The Nexus has a super-fast camera. Maybe not the best on true colours etc, but it's super-fast. None of your shots will be blurred, like typical pictures taken with a cheap digital camera is.
Right now Note comes with some extra stuff and a styles and runs a Touchwiz'ed Android build. The Nexus is a nexus, 100% open and running ICS fresh of the Google source.
For me the Nexus is the only choice. Two of my colleagues opted for the Note instead. We're all happy.
Non-external SD can be solved by USB OTG and memory-sticks. Or 1TB external harddrives. Really. I think the camera is amazing. Megapixels doesn't really matter that much once they go high enough.

Did anyone else see the article last week stating the note 3 will be 6.3 inches? Supposedly the article said a company making the screens got orders from samsung for a screen that size.
I'd be down for that size, no bigger though. Would be perfect imo

After using GN2 for a few weeks I could see going bigger as long as the physical size of the phone itself doesn't get much bigger. Samsung could easily squeeze more screen real estate into the existing frame by removing the buttons and logo. I plan to keep the GN2 for a few years but would also like to see an unbreakable screen come to the next note.

looks like samsung is getting serious about those flexible screens..no way will a 6.3" phone be a solid device...too big. If this is foldable though....now that will be something special. a 6.3" phone that folds into a 3.15" rectangle no thicker than the original RAZR.....man that would be a sweet phone

Sounds cool but batteries aren't foldable unfortunately. Even with two batteries on each side it'll still be kinda thick.

take the note 2 and double it's thickness...not that bad really...thinner and smaller than a wallet

For me I would love that size. Wouldn't be an issue for me at all. The bigger the better. As stated they could increase the screen and not make the whole phone much bigger

If they can squeeze that screen real estate in the note 2 size body then yes i'm all for it. But if the actual phone itself gets bigger then i just might have to pass and look into the galaxy S4 as the screen on that is also increasing and if that isn't sufficient and apple wisen's up and makes a 4.5 inch or bigger in length and width then i might have to consider that also.

It will be interesting to see this larger version. I had an HTC HD2 (previously thought of as a "big" phone) prior to my Note II, and I've had no problems getting acclimated to the new phone. I've been wondering when some 7-inch tablet manufacturer would take the plunge and implement phone services on a mini tablet and bridge the gap. Actually thought that Apple might do it first, but it looks like Samsung will beat them to it. With more people using Bluetooth and Voice Search, and more advanced speech-to-text software being developed, there's less and less need to actually hold the device in (one) hand for purposes of making phone calls. My lady friend also has a Note II -- she's all of 5 feet 4 inches tall, doesn't have large hands, but loves her Note II.

There is no way they are going to make almost an inch increase in screen size. I would like to see the samephysical size or touch larger with slight increase in screen size. I see them going to 5.8".

Again I saw an article I cant find now with the official note 3 specs . It was
6" cloroled screen <although I see now they are prepping for a 5.8" cloroled screen so that size may have changed.>

Sounds about perfect for me

my note 3 dream would be:
same physical size as the note 2; however, the entire face would be a screen. no physical buttons and the speaker for calls would be behind the glass while the mic would be on the bottom of the phone.
s pen that is thicker and longer with an easier to press button
flexible screen to keep it from cracking upon drops
larger battery
32gb internal memory minimum
3GB RAM
2ghz quad core processor
12mp camera but better quality
8mp front facing camera
more s-apps
default home screen modified to have a 8x6 grid
apps 2 sd built in

I believe this is close to the truth. 6.3" size, 1080 resolution screen is not that far off from what others are rumored to be doing in 2013. Seem to be lots of competition in 2013 with the high end, large sized Androids.
I hope they are also working on improving the multi-window too. I also hope they keep the removable battery and SD card option. And please more battery capacity and more data storage.
I personally feel that would be the perfect size for my future Android MPPC.

I'd be happy with a slightly bigger phone if the screen was 6-6.3. I would dumpy my Nexus 7 for sure, which surprisingly lately has been collecting dust. I never thought that woukd happen in a million years.
Anyway, 3gbs of ram, and 2.0ghz before the wizards here did their magic...wow. That would be some phone. Add some other stuff like a poster above me said and bam. Perfection. I was reading somewhere, not sure where, Iphone 6 was going to be 5"...too little and way too late for me.

it's a bit bigger which can be a downside for some people, but other than that everything is exactly the same or better.
the cpu is an overclocked version of the one in the international s3
the camera is the same.
the battery holds 50% more, plenty to compensate for the bigger screen and adding a bit more usage time.
RAM is the same as the US s3, and twice as much as the international model.
the screen is the same resolution, but because of the better subpixel layout the note 2 has a sharper looking screen.
the size is an issue for some, but if you often use your phone as a computer/tablet the convenience of a large screen outweighs the inconvenience of a large device.

Went to Verizon and played with both. Definitely leaning towards the N2.
What do you usually use the spen for? Feel like I would never pop it out?
I might be getting an n2 for 300-350 (used) ... But that's a steal right.

I use the stylus mostly for browsing and typing, and sometimes for notes(S note app) and drawing(colors!, and Photoshop touch)
browsing works better because small links are easier to click, scrolling works with smaller motions, and mouse-over events are handled correctly.
rather than typing, I use Swype which works very comfortably with the S-pen.
the included keyboard app also has swype-input(swiftkey flow actually) as well as a very accurate handwriting option, but I prefer swype.
several drawing apps have support for the S-pen, so they can respond to the button and can adjust the brush sizes or opacity based on pressure.
some puzzle/casual games can be very comfortable to play with a stylus, I play mahjong solitaire, Klondike solitaire, hextacy, sudoku, and collapse with the stylus.
some different game genres also work well with the stylus.
final fantasy III for example, or the music game osu!droid.
when I got the note 2 I already knew I was going to use the stylus for drawing, games, and browsing, but I never considered using any note-taking apps until I got a chance to use the S-pen with S note.

Why I think the Note 2 is worth getting instead of the S3:
1. Bigger Screen and despite the lower pixel density its not much noticeable.
2. Much Better battery performance (a very big factor)
3. Double the RAM meaning better suitable for future ROM upgrades.
4. Faster CPU although not by much.
5. Spen- very handy for some creativity work.
6. Better and louder sound on the external speaker
7. Housing and Display are easier to replace compared to S3.
8. More premium feel
9. @ Point 1- Larger screen+ lower DPI= easily replaces a tablet and suitable for ported Tablet ROMs.
10. Its the latest in phablet models compared to the S3 that has already been outdated by the S4.

from a distance of 30-50cm I can already see a pattern like a chain-link fence on the S3(or any pentile screen) but on a Note 2 I can't see it's grid pattern beyond 5-10cm.
so I'd say the note 2 has a better screen, even without counting the bigger size.

Simply the Note 2 has more performance because of his RAM and CPU. It also have more battery capacity and the S Pen is a great feature to use. Because of that I use it in school and I great because the big screen make it easier to write. Another thing is the screen, it has a great resolution so videos and images look great. Web navigation is also easier with the big screen and with some mods you can use the multiwindow feature with all apps.

You will get used to, when I carry my Note 2 around many people say how I can use such a big phone but surprisingly you'll like it after you use it, and I can say that now anything smaller than the note seems small to me

Yea but I find that noticeable only if I focus hard enough and up close on the pixels otherwise the S3 has a fairly descent display. That is not to say the Note 2 isnt, in fact i find it just as good. My main problem with the low pixel density of the Note 2 is when lowering the DPI anywhere lower than 240, its when the icons start showing rough edges. Other than that, I'm quite happy with the both I think that although you don't see the grid patterns on the Note 2, it does come at the expense of slightly reduced clarity.

My father's day gift to myself...the Note2 or S4.

Hi everyone. Most likely I'm gonna be hanging out here in the next few months. I'm really, really sure I want the Note better cuz the bigger screen. The only thing the attracts me better to the S4 is the IR blaster and the 13 mp camera...oh yeah and better resolution...BUT!...which one would you think would look better from 3 feet away (from my eyes to were my phone mounts to my Expedition). Well besides those features and quad core is there any other reasons to get the S4 instead? Thanks ahead for your input.

Size could be a factor, the n2 isn't for everyone. The gs4 does have better screen, better camera and because it's newer much more likely to have a longer shelf. (Especially important if you like touchwiz)
The note2 is bigger which could be a plus or a minus depending on user preference. The spen is really awesome if you use it. For me I think I would rather have the original note than a gs4 even though the s4 is superior in every way. For me the spen is that big of a deal to me now that I have it. That being said the note3 is on it way so if you do want a bigger screen or spen I would wait if you can...my guess is that the n3 will be available in September.
No mattee what you decide you won't go wrong. Samsung flag ship phones lately have been off the hook..I mean even the outdated s2 is rocking and relevant but for ho long?

Thx md. It's funny how size is a factor with this phone. I mean I hear some people complain about the size after they got it but they obviously held the phone before they bought it (wtf). The Note is what it is and it should not be compared to a 4.5" (i)phone. It would be like me complaining on the size of my SUV when I chose to get a SUV. The size IS the main reason I want the note. It would be so much easier to see afar, navigate and type on that screen compared to my 4.5" screen.

from that distance I couldn't notice the difference in resolution from my Note2 and a co-worker's S4, and I have 20/20 vision. based on your criteria, I think the N2 would be the better choice.
I think the Note 2 is too big if you're going to be carrying it in your pant pockets alot. if you carry your stuff in a bag, then the size is not a big deal. Also your body size/height makes a difference. My 6'3" friend thinks his Note 2 is the perfect size for his large hands.

I see...Thanks Speed...I'm planning to get rid of all my skinny jeans anyways...my son thinks I shouldn't wear those...anyways if resolution isn't really a factor then how about speed...I know in stats the S4 is faster obviously but in real life is there really a NOTICEABLE speed difference between the two besides maybe playing HD games?

Hi,
Regarding Speed, they will both handle games just like they are meant to. I haven't had any issues playing games on my N2.
I really think they are both on par with each other. I believe either the screen size or features is what's going to sell you.
I love the big screen, I'm adjusted to it now.

I tested my friends s4 vs my Note 2. One in each hand, opening apps, etc... my Note was noticeably faster, but it's on Jedi X14, and his is completely stock.
