Hello i have a problem and i where just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same think..
When i want to do the ota update it downloads it fine no problem, then it restarts and says installing update, afterwards it says update failed with no futher explanation.
I have been trying to do it five times or so..
The update is called: x9006_12.A.05_INT_005_140605
I have root if that makes any difference.
Do you have a find 7a (X9006) or find 7? Have you installed a custom recovery? Why don't you install the ColorOS 1.2.1i stable? If you're not at stock recovery flash it and retry!
Cheers

This update is basically the same as ColorOS 1.2.1i. Just flash 1.2.1i. Another thing you can try is re-flashing your recovery. That seemed to fix it for me. And I too, have root.
:victory:
Sorry i have the find 7a With stock recovery and would actually like to get the OTA updates..

That is what zoltan indicated. Flash the stock recovery, run the update and then reflash your custom recovery.

I know I am a senior member of XDA but I am not a developer at all. Please don't blame me for the questions that will follow. I tried looking through the threads and Google but I can't find straightforward answers.
So here they are:
1.) I am still on Android 4.3 waiting for the update. I am rooted, have TWRP recovery and have stock odexed ROM. Let's say the 4.4 update arrives and I want to update. Can I update with the custom recovery?
2.) Some people say that after rebooted in TWRP, nothing happens. Then how can I know where the OTA .zip file is located and...question 1.) again.
3.) Let's say the update went fine and I know that root is lost. Could I have saved it before the update using something like root survive method?
4.) If not, then it means I need to reroot again. How can I reroot WITHOUT using the PC? (Please don't ask why I don't use the PC)
I am not a total noob, just these questions are unanswered for me. I have a HTC One X too and from that I know updating with custom recovery is not possible and needs stock one. My Nexus 7 is just not like the HTC.
Thank you for reading, hopefully someone can answer. The answers can be short but I should understand.

No, yes no answers?

Ok, I think I know the answers
1.) Yes
3.) I just need to reflash the Super SU through custom recovery
4.) Answer 3.)
Question 2.) Hopefully someone can answer, where is the location of the OTA download, I heard in some kind of cache folder....?

I'm not nearly an expert so you should search the general forum section. Try searching "twrp ota 4.4"
1. If you have a custom recovery, you'll get the OTA download, but it won't install. You have two choices, either install the OTA from a downloaded file or restore the N7 to stock recovery.
2. There are several threads with a lot of good information in the general section. I had TWRP installed and followed the instructions on the last update, it worked without a problem. I've since rooted but use the stock recovery. I'm waiting for v4.4 and once that's loaded I'll decide if I want to go back to a custom recovery.
3 and 4. No idea. I've seen various discussions here and other web sites so check Google. I don't recall seeing a way to root without a PC for the N7 but I have seen it with other devices.
Greetings,
I have the Lg g pad running 4.2.2 and today i received an update (OTA) . Anyone knows what oa this update and second i am root and i cant install it because after reboot for installation i am going to custom recovery. Any way to sideload this update with out going back to full stock unroot?

If you have custom recovery and root the ota update obviously wont work. I had asked the developer of root for our devices for the otas and this is what he had said:

My suggestion, if you want to keep root don't take an OTA.
If you really want to stay with stock LG then you'll want to flash updates via custom recovery. The community will take the updates from LG and make them flashable with TWRP or CWM.

so you ll have to wait for someone to make this update a flashable zip.

Yeah there is a script that runs when you do a OTA. My buddy had to completely restore to stock using download mode to fix his. You may get lucky with doing a factory wipe but sounds like flashing a new rom didn't even help... Look through the forums and find the thread that guides you through doing a regular restore (this will restore you to the original software. You will be unrooted and your recovery will go back to stock. This means you can do the OTA if you so desire. Just keep in mind it may block Loki and root)

Thanks for the reply mate,
Yeah i will do like that , but surely there is a way somewhere to remove the boot loop , from TWRP you can remove edit files.
So if someone with more knowledge tell us where the OTA files give the command to boot to recovery we can remove it.
Cheers

Post your problem in twrp's thread. Drgravy replies often and he knows more than anyone what to do in a situation like yours.
Thanks all for your help ....
I unbricked the device with FlashTool.1.0.54 , i flashed the original firmware , the strange thing this did not wipe my data, only removed Custom recovery and root.

To be honest I didn't mention any chances , sure they (lg) updated their apps but I haven't notice any system chances , but then again I can't take it from my kids and wife hands!!!!
Just tried the update to a stock (but rooted) Gpad
At 3% installing, error 0x13E
After booting, a samsung-like:laugh: message:
"This device is suspected in rooting. Software update is not available for rooted device"
Fortunately this tablet is not mine... This tablet needs a "google edition" update ASAP
Maybe somebody could cook this update into a package that can be flashed by people who are on stock, but rooted?
I am on stock, rooted, but the update went fine.

Why not just flash TWRP (I'm assuming you're on th stock recovery?) and sideload a custom rom like Ecliptic or Nusense? Then you won't have to worry about OTAs. You might have to update the firmware, but you should be good to go after that.

i just came off of CyanagenMod. I was just looking to have some stock time. the day i got it i put Cyan on there.
I still cant boot to system but i did put TWRP on there for the OTG usage to maybe figure out if i couldnt find an issue in the OTA.zip. i did find out that it keeps checking for AmazonApps-releasev500001470C.odex which i cannot seem to find anywhere with TWRP File Manager.
I might just go with a rom based on stock 4.4.2.

To Root your P8000 stock you just need to install SuperSU from Playstore, it works out the box
Playstore -> SuperSU (cant link)
Download -> INSTALL -> ROOT no more steps needed
My, that easy.?
Does this mean that the bootloader is unlocked?
I've got an Huawei Honor 3x Pro G750-T20 which todate is still unrootable because the damn bootloader is locked
i.e that is why I'm getting this device.
Just waiting for delivery which I hope would be soon.
And thanks for the headsup.

I think you would have to uninstall and reinstall the SuperSU. And see if the prompt to update binaries come up.

you have to install the su binarys and libs from recovery.
otherwise it can not work with only installing supersu.
with the stock recovery you can not install it. you need cwm or TWRP for it. that means you must root the phone with the flashtool
after that all is done you can install the supersu.zip in recovery and root it

There are several people here who claim they've rooted the phone simply via installing SuperSU directly from Google Play (the ”normal” way - no pun intended). With both the stock and the newer (OTA or otherwise installed) firmware.
I'm not yet sure how that is even possible, but it might have something to do with what another user said, that the official ROM appears to be pre-rooted - as evidenced by his banking app (Barclay's) and despite any other bench-marking apps.
I have yet to receive my device (one more week or so until arrival), but that's definitely what I'm going to try first.
Here is a Instruction to root and CWM Recovery, its very easy and works 100%

As it's impossible to start SuperSU without ROOT on the phone we can take for granted that some P8000 has been delivered pre-ROOTED...
Mine wasn't, but i tried the suggested out of curiousity and of course it did NOT work
I just installed SuperSU on my P8000, it asked for something or other that was recommended for HTC phones? I just clicked 'Normal' and it installed OK, then asked for a reboot.
Looked in settings after reboot and it says 'Superuser is enabled'. Does this mean that my phone is now rooted?
How can I tell?
Thanks
I also only installed the SuperSU App via Play Store and it works like a charm. I can run Titanium Backup and all other stuff that requires root with no problems. I am running the stock rom 20150725.
I also just downloaded SuperSU as the OP suggested and surprisingly it worked! I dowloaded root checker as well and a prompt showed up asking for root permission.
Awesome!

Hello
I've rooted my Nexus 5X and i left the recovery to stock recovery because i wanted to have the OTA updates normally without using a PC.
With ytsemless root I was hoping that this is no problem. But the febuary security OTA fails when I try to install.
Can someone explain to me why this could fail?
I have not much root apps installed. Just adaway, busybox, sd maid and supersu. No costum kernel.
So from my point of view I touched nothing that should have an impact to OTA.
So my question is: Why is there always an error when I try to update with OTA?

Because you have applied systemless root. Anything, ANYTHING different from completely stock will cause the normal OTA process to fail. These posts keep asking the same question and the answer never changes. It is what it is. There are a ton of posts here which will explain alternate flashing processes to update, then re-root your device.
Try using flashfire from Chainfire. It detects downloaded ota and ask you if you want to try and flash it. Also there is an option to re-root after updating. If the ota doesn't install then download the factory image for February and flash the whole thing. Make sure data is uncheked so that it doesn't wipe your data. It's a bigger download than ota but it will definitely work.
I had stock + root + xposed + layers. Managed to update to latest build with automatic re-root. Then I just flashed twrp-recovery using flashify and installed xposed through twrp. Took me 5 mins to flash everything (excluding time to download the factory image). All without using a PC!
