Hi All,
My Samsung SX II SGH-T989D is not booting up. I put it in charging and few hours when i checked, it was switched. When i tried switching it on, its not at all booting up.
I am in India and the phone was bought in Canada. So samsung service centres will not do anything to repair it.
Can anybody help me whether its is dead forever or something can be done to bring it back to life?
Thanks

No it doesn't. I checked the battery with 2 to 3 service centers and it is in good condition according to them.

Did you ever spill water inside? Maybe defective hardware.
Charger could be messed up, try a different cable.

Will Sprint give me a replacement phone if I don't have any insurance? I've heard that the Epic 4G Touch comes with a manufacturer's warranty so is it possible my phone can be replaced by this? I'll use a Jig to reset the ODIN count if needed.
I would like to know so that I don't order a Jig for no reason

Wondering the same. I did the same thing u did to yours. Data partition is messed up. I have insurance on my line but I don't have my epic touch activated now so I wonder if I can Activate and then take it in.

Sure you can from what I have heard

all phones come with a warranty. You just have to convince them it's a hardware defect. I've had many a phone replaced without using the insurance because of a bad power button or a bad plug. The insurance only comes into play for loss, water, or cracked glass.

Thanks. So what do you think are my chances if I use a Jig to reset the Odin count? My phone is still stuck in a boot loop and when I turn it on, it says the International Version stuff.
Edit: I think my phone's battery just died. Will it charge regularly if it's just connected to the USB?
Just got my epic replaced on Saturday, my charging port had oxidized somehow and my phone would think its charging all the time causing crazy battery loss.
Since it was a hardware defect that wasn't my fault (phone had no water damage and tech saw that this was a known issue) they replaced it free of charge.

i dont mean to hijack this thread, but if i bought my phone from letstalk would i still be able to get a replacement if i convinced sprint there was a hardware defect?
Also, does anyone know what they do to the phones?
I.e. do they give you a replacement phone on the spot and collect your old phone? Or do they send your old phone to some factory to make sure you need a replacement phone, and if not, repair it?

Depends if they have any to give u. Most if the time they do so they just take your old phone and give u a new one on the spot. If they don't they will order u one.

No they wont. When my Nexus s 4g didnt get good enough reception i went a sprint store to show them how wifi wouldnt connect they looked at it and checked on their computer and simply said "contact Let's talk for a replacement" so i did. I got my ET4G for $70 when sprint was asking for $200 plus it was way over the returned period. So just do the same with Lets talk act like the phone is messed up on its on or something im sure they change it.
So apparently Sprint replaces with Hardware defects. Could I technically mask a data partition error from rooting as a hardware error? I'd have to reset the Odin count though

Hey did you have your phone rooted when you brought it in? Just wondering because I am having the same problem. My phone isn't recognizing when it is plugged into the computer either and I can't create a connection to unroot. =/ Any suggestions?

Try Mobile Odin. I've never used it but if you can get the stock firmware tar on your SD card by downloading it directly, then you can use mobile Odin to flash it over.

Hey guys, I just received an old Motorola Defy. It works perfectly fine but has got a problem with charging. I have plugged it in for more than 3 hours and it still show Charging 10%. The battery fails to charge to more than 10%. The mobile has no T-Mobile branding, neither on the phone itself and neither on the box that came along with it. But when I switch it on it shows the T-Mobile logo after the motoblur animations. Right now, sim cards other than T-Mobile are working perfectly fine, but I was thinking of doing a Factory Reset to get rid of all the junk that the previous owner installed on this phone. A friend also recommended this to see if the battery problem goes away but I am afraid that the phone will get locked and I do not have any unlock codes for this phone so it would be disastrous for me.
The details are as follows:
System Version: 34.906.1.MB525.T-Mobile.en.GB (so I think it is the UK version)
Firmware Version: 2.2.2
Baseband Version: EPU93_U_00.59.02
What should I do guys? Any help would be appreciated!
P.S. How to turn off Cellular Data on this phone because as soon as I turn off the wifi it starts eating up my Data.
To turn data off - go to settings...battery and data manager...Data delevery...from here turn off data enabled.
For your first problem...
If you are Rooted, try deleting battery stats first...
If not, root it and delete battery stats...(You can do it by installing battery caliberator from market)...
If this doesn't wort, keep faith on XDA members
I bought it from a local store here in Pakistan. They said if I root the device I would lose my 6 months warranty. These guys provide their own warranty for devices that are imported from other countries. I do not understand whether this is really a T-Mobile UK version as it says so in settings (and the startup screen) or a retail version as it says on the box SM,MB525,GB,RETAIL,LIC (it does not have any T-Mobile branding on the box or the phone itself). I think the retail version should be factory unlocked, shouldn't it be? But then why does it show T-Mobile?
If its in warranty, then why don't you give your defy to service center...
They may know better...
BTW i think you can unroot your phone by using superoneclick...but search first for this on xda ...i will not be responsible for anything happens to your phone...
Yeah, I will take it to them tomorrow. It went down quickly from 10% to 0, when I recharged it again, it got stuck on 5%. I checked the phone's battery with another app from Google Play that didn't require Root Access and it said that the battery was in good condition but couldn't calibrate it until the battery was charged to 100%. Tough luck! Thank You for your reply, do you know why this phone is showing T-Mobile while on the box it says RETAIL?

Yeah tried charging it with an iPhone 4 charger but it still does not charge beyond 5%. I think either the micro-usb cable is not functioning properly or the usb port on the phone because when I plug this into my macbook the charging status was changing quickly from Charging to Connect your charger again and again. I will take this to the store and report back!
Yeah, it was the micro-usb cable. The store gave me an HTC cable for free and now everything is working superbly. Did a factory reset and the phone is still unlocked. Thank You guys!

Because The sellers where you have bought the phone they have been imported mobile from UK and then unlocked and sold it to you..that's it if possible visit moto service center or if your friends have defy then try to charge your defy battery in their mobiles and check it or charge with boosters..

I literally just got back my phone from Samsung support after this happen to me. Wifi just sits there saying "turning on wireless" but never does and never even makes it to showing you any available wireless networks so you can choose to connect right???
I tried flashing radios and all kinds of 4.03/4 and JB roms... it was no help (although I see the phone came back to me with 4.01/ITL41F and radio KK1 on it). To make things worse I have a international Galaxy Nexus and Samsung USA will not do warranty repairs for international devices. Lucky the vendor I buy from has a good buyer relationship with his international supplier and they handled it for me.
Just noticed you said stock so the following may not apply:
My advice is to backup your phone, wipe it, flash back to a stock roms, re-lock the bootloader and call in to Samsung USA then send it in for warranty repair. You can do all of that with the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit. It took 14 days in my case to get my phone back. It should take less if your Galaxy Nexus is a US version.
Hello XDA!
As the title says, I am really stupid and accidentally ran the bootloader unlocking program intended for verizon on my sprint s3.
Now my phone won't even start.
What dooooooo?

I tried the USB dongle thing, tried vol down + power + home, I can't get it to do anything. However, when i hold the power button with it connected to the PC, the PC will make usb connection sounds like it's turning on and off.

take the battery out. plug your phone in and try to go into download mode.
I did the same thing only with the AT&T version on my Sprint s3. It's officially bricked. If you take it back to the Sprint store they'll swap it out for a new one. There is literally nothing else you can do. It sucks. I know.

As was stated here.. If you can't get it to download mode (Odin) then your gonna be taking back to store.. It sucks.. just ensure you triple check before flashing anything.. our phone is the SPH-L710. I have seen some who have flashed roms (tried to) for the I9300.. Which is the international version.. So just becareful on next adventure.. and most of all, don't be afraid to ask!!! This place is a wealth of knowledge and most are always willing to help.
Thank you everyone!
Looks like I will try to get it swapped out at the Sprint store.. I hope they won't give me any trouble for not being their customer though.
I appreciate everyone's time!

Just to update (for anyone in my situation without a Sprint account), two sprint stores wouldn't replace my phone because I don't have a Sprint account. I even told them that the reason why I want to fix it is to activate it for Sprint, but they wouldn't budge... It looks like I will have to find a friend who has Sprint, associate the broken S3's ESN with their account, and bring it back for replacement.

Yea, that's probably not gona happen, because then they'll want to activate it [Sprint], on the 'donor' account. You my friend, may officially roughly 535$ in the hole...

It makes sense. Why would Sprint replace a phone on there network if you don't even have their service..? Not trying to be mean, but it's common sense.
Some people buy bricked phones though.

I do not think that is going to work. I think you are going to have to send your phone here.
Dude just call samsung and tell them phone died during a phone call say it wouldn't boot back up. You have a free year manufacture warranty use it. As long as your screen is not cracked samsung will replace your phone. I had two replaced gs3 . They will troubleshoot with you first then send you a box to send your old phone and a new or refurbished phone back. There really fast a week or days depends on where you live. The only problem or thing I didn't like was ups just left the phone at the door without me signing. I wasn't at home but just right on the ground on the front door it could have got stolen or rained on. Don't waste your time with sprint just call Sammy man . Oh my phone was rooted to and they never said a thing. All they do Is put new software on it and send it back out to someone else. Goodluck

Yes, I believe you officially bricked it, it happened to be before, loaded a bad ROM, but for sprint?, I don't think it would be a problem, I went and said I got it a week ago, and I left it to charge one night, and woke up and bit won't turn on, and they gives it to their tech guy to check it out, but he failed because as we all know, its bricked and can't be turned on, it took like 2 hours for the check up, so idk, find something to kill time then go back lol, grab a hotdog , but anyway, so i had to pay insurance which was only like 48 I believe, which is better than buying a new galaxy s3 lol, but if you already for insurance, then you should be set , and should have to come back to the store In about 3 days to collect your new phone, and I'm sorry for your lost , and good luck

well since its a Samsung motherboard fault so u dont need to pay for it rather make a online complain to Samsung stating the same as it changed free of cost as Samsung provides 1 year manufacturer warranty or a new one will cost a lot around 180 to 220 dollars .my suggestion to you shoot a mail to Samsung official with your invoice attached and ask them for the replacement orelse people will stop buying **** from Samsung if they don't rectify their manufacturing defects
