OK no matter how I go to watch a 2 or 4k video trailer it lags very bad. I am on charters 60mbs service. Getting 59.9mbs with a speed test on my tablet. I tried loading it through my player, the stock video player, chrome, and the stock browser. It all lags and shutters badly making it impossible to watch.
Why would this play? YouTube app will not play higher than 720 and if I load it in the browser it also won't give me the option to watch it in full hd or higher

First of all, the Tab Pro/S screens aren't even 4k resolution so you wouldn't gain anything from watching it at that high of a resolution. Secondly, I'll leave it to the next person!
I know that this is only a 2k screen but it should be able to play a 2k or a 4k video right? 1080 plays fine with no lag or anything.

Can you provide a link to a video that is laggy?

only the 4k video lagged for me. The 1080p ones played fine. Must be the exynos chip in your 325
Mine has the snapdragon 800. The 1080s play fine but the 4ks don't. There are some 2k videos on that site and they lag too.

Wanted to chime in here... I have the U.S. Galaxy tab pro 8.4, I did not update to the newest version of software it keeps telling me that is ready to install. Its the black model...
I have on my networked server the timescapes 4k 2560p video clip. I copied it over to the 16gb built in sdcard storage on the tab and played the file using the stock video player.
It plays fine and is 99% smooth, here and there it may hitch once or twice. What I did notice is there may be a ghosting problem on this tab because the stars from the video clip smear when they move and are sharp when they don't in the background.
So 4k videos do play smooth its just there is ghosting.. This file was a .mp4
Maybe streaming them is the problem compared to playing them from storage with the video player built in

1440p and above lag for me using the chrome browser on YouTube (desktop version). Will try a downloaded clip to see if I get the same results.

I noticed today that when I watched an HD clip on youtube using wifi that is is 720p but not when on a mobile network. Yes it's full screen and says HQ but it's not 720p.
How do I fix this or is this a limitation put on by Samsung?
I'm having difficult time believing that the stream is 720p even on wifi, how did you verify it?

Just watch a clip (1080p HD trailer or something) on wifi that is insanely sharp and you'll know it's 720p. There should be no pixelation at all.
Watch the same video on the mobile network and you'll notice the difference.
You have to activate it in Settings, its off by default to save people!

Even if you activate High Quality for mobile in the settings, it's still not as sharp as wifi.
It's true, it looks upscaled. High quality on mobile data is lower quality then on wifi.

It's normal, the speed is not the same..

ZOMG I didn't even know it was possibible to do 720p from the YT app! This phone is just getting cooler and COOLER!!
... back to thread.
There is a HD icon on the bottom left of the screen when the video is playing. Just hit that....but watch out if you're on AT&T!
Ok I don't think people are understanding so let me clarify:
- When on wifi, HQ youtube videos are sharp like they should be
- When on mobile internet, the SAME video with HQ on Mobile turned on is not as sharp
- Even while on mobile and having HQ turned on in the settings menu and the HQ button is lit up on the bottom left; pressing it makes the video go to a non-full screen blob
Why doesn't it load the real video if on mobile internet? I can wait a little bit longer for it load if it means sharp videos how they're meant to be viewed on my screen.
Wasn't there someone talking about how the Netflix on the new razr has actual non-wifi HD youtube? I noticed this problem the day I got the phone as well.
.
Yeah, I hope they fix this.
Do you have the latest version of YouTube? As was said before it should say HD not HQ. I just watched a video on mobile and it was definitely HD! Go to the market and see if there is an update for your YouTube app.

Not only that, but because this is a buttonless device, watching videos just looks stunning. Specifically with the youtube app over wifi, 720p only. It just blows me away how good it looks.
I know its not quite as convenient but 720p flash video plays flawlessly in the browser. I even sent it to my 19" with a mhl/dvi cable and it blew me away. For a mobile to be able to play that kind of quality video that smoothly is really impressive imo.

Appears so. The phone only does 720p anyway. Are you asking this because you have it hooked to a 1080p display?
Is there a way to get YT to automatically play content in HQ/HD, though?
If you download the modded yt apk you can auto play HD. Dont know if it will play 1080 on different screen.

yeah i thought it could play at 1080p but its not the case and even when plays a video at 720p i feel like im watching it at 480p because it kinda blurry
I think it goes automatically to hd (720p), if aviable when on wifi.

I know about the hacked apk for Netflix that was released a while back but it either does or doesn't. Is there a way to tell if something is playing at 720 or 1080.. Been trying to hack YouTube to 1080 but seems the developers for both are missing in action as the apks are months out dated.. Wanna use the screen for its full 1080p potential

i dont know if you see the difference, but for sure when you hit the airplay on chromecast they will play 1080p is the movie is available on HD.
also, make sure you have the highest setting on your netflix account
I mean it's clear and good looking but I'm looking hard at it and it's not crispy like the tv.. And yes the shows I'm looking at I know for sure are super hd aka 1080 format, signal isn't a issue as I'm pulling 30mbit down on the phone, just wondered if it's 720 or actually 1080

Just wondering if anyone else experiences pauses/jitters while watching videos from the Samsung hub on their Video player? I watched two movies now (42 and Despicable Me 2) and both would slightly pause or jitter while watching the movie. Happened maybe a dozen or so times throughout the movie. Is this just the video player sucking or is this pretty common with tablets? Thanks
Use moboplayer

This happens to me everytime I watch a movie. I would think , with the good specs of this tablet, that I could watch an entire movie without those hiccups..... I'm looking forward to root, debloat, and try some custom roms, but i am in no hurry to do it quite yet.

Is it me or does the mobile YouTube app Max out at 1080p? Ever since I got this phone I updated my Channel with 2k videos. But I try to change the resolution gear and only goes up to 1080p. Any help appreciated.

Download YouTube Downloader from XDA then you can download 2k videos straight to your phone from YouTube! That's what I do and it looks fantastic.
