Hello all, I'm posting on behalf of my brother (I have an M8) who is having a very strange issue. He can text and use data but he can't call anything. Whenever he attempts to, he simply gets the pop up that the mobile network is not available (See picture). This is just super strange to me because clearly his phone says he has LTE. He is running the latest unofficial build of PA along with Gravitybox.
Any suggestions? Being able to make calls is kind of a crucial purpose of smart "phone" haha.
LTE cannot support voice calls. When you call on LTE coverage the 1xRTT radio makes the call. Have him flash a radio and reflash the Rom. Also this is the Verizon HTC One M7 forum, not the M8

He was completely stock before flashing PA, would flashing the newest radios still help? He doesn't have access to a computer right now so I don't think we would be able to update the firmware.

I don't think he was ever able to make calls, on CM or PA. I'll have him flash the radios before he tries completely wiping.

Check santod's thread. There is recovery flashable radios. He can try each one. If they don't work, might need to flash the firmware via fastboot.

The radios should be fine to flash on a 4.4.2 rom correct?

You'll want the most recent radios. The older ones cause the issues. The 2 most recent are the only ones that don't I believe. It's also recommended to flash the whole firmware (the one without the boot.img) but if he doesn't have access to a computer that can be done later.

Might be he just needs to update his network preference in the hidden phone testing menu? #*#*4636*#*# , going from sense to AOSP i recall causes issues like this

I had this issus when flashing an AOSP 4.4.3 ROM. Updating to the latest firmware fixed it right up.

I'm not near a computer very often enough to constantly be able to flash the latest. Has anyone tried the Mobile ODIN app? Whats your guys thought s on it and is it worth trying.

I have used it but only to flash recoveries. It works very well. Try the Lite version.

What exactly are you flashing in Odin (Mobile or otherwise)? Most Roms only provide zip files that are flashable in custom recoveries. Odin is mainly used for switching recoveries. If you want to switch recoveries that often, Naddict always takes the latest and makes a flashable zip directly from the recovery itself. If you want older, he might make one for you.
I've flashed everything with it. Modems can be fickle but I find putting it on root of SD card works well.
Mobile Odin is great if you wish to keep stock recovery and flash stock tars while remaining rooted. Not everyone wishes to have a custom recovery or ROM but would like to use root apps. Believe Mobile Odin author is one such person.
I've used it since it came out. Never any issues.
That's kinda what I want to do is try some different modems and update my prls. I'm running the latest synergy r484 and the 3g/4g can't make up its mind and my service bars aren't consistent since the update. I've used the previous rooms by synergy and never had this issue. I don't know what they changed being somewhat of a noob to rooted customs. Thanks for the insight I'll keep researching.

sounds like a good idea.. i'll be rooting my phone tomorrow.. i'm thinking about using the radio modem from ICS version 4.0.4 released in October. how can i do that?
Once rooted, just flash any of the modems available for your model in cwm or twrp recovery.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I know this isn't directly related to solving the problem, but before installing a different modem make sure it is a compatible modem with your carrier and phone model. Also, be sure to back up your efs because I did this before and my efs files got corrupted and I lost signal from my phone.
I am still on android version 4.1.2, with a non stock modem running cwm recovery and clean rom 4.8.
My question is do I need to mess with my modem before flashing clean rom 5.0?
Do I have to worry about my Android version if I wish to flash pac man rom thats 4.3?
Sorry for being a newb!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
You don't have to mess with your modem when you flash any rom.
Thanks! So if I flash clean rom 5.0 ill keep the modem I flashed? Some roms contain modems?

As Ranger stated....your rom will not be touched unless you choose to change it..
Cleanrom does not contain a modem.bin.....g
Ive been having problems with my modem which is why ive changed it. Its mainly when im connected to wifi but not always, it says I also have 4g but I cannot make/receive calls or texts.
So simplest way to change it would be to select a rom that has a built in modem?
Thanks again
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
4G is the data side of the connection. The sms and voice goes through the GPRS connection. They are not related. It sounds like a location problem or antenna problem.
Just changing the modem is easy - download and flash.
Does your sim work correctly in another phone?
Ive tried variois modems to no avail. I cannot test my sim bc I don't have another phone to test it with.
Ive decided to unroot and reset counter and return to stock so I can bring it to an at&t store. I did part of the process last night but I think I did it backwards.

If you can offer insight please follow the link. As you will read I think thats what I have to do just looking for a "yes" if I am correct.
Thanks

I can't offer a link. . . when you do these things to your phone you void your warranty.
I'm sure I will get flamed for being old fashioned or called a douchebag, but everyone is warned about this.
Hello,
I rooted vz9 with one click root. Then used freegee to unlock and install twrp. I could use WiFi fine up until that point. Now no matter what ROM I flash (carbon, CM, PAC) I cannot connect to any WiFi. When I put in the password and hit connect it says saved but never even seems like its trying to actually connect. Anyone else experience this?
Thanks
Did you try another kernel?

You're using ZV9? That radio shouldn't even be working with anything JB. Use the ZVB/ZVC radio.

OK I guess that was an underlying question. So I can flash a vzb/vzc radio even if I'm using a custom ROM like Carbon?
Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure. You shouldn't even be able to run any of the current Roms with ZV9 radio.
But if you have been, then there shouldn't be any problem. Flash the ZVC radio from the teeny bin or the OpTimuS threads. If there an issue, you might have to do a factory rest. And it probably wouldn't hurt to flash a stock ZVC ROM. Use the one titled ZVC stock rooted. I think that's what I called it.

Did you ever figure out an actual fix to this? Unless im straight up stock, wifi sits the same yours did. No matter what rom i flash or how many times i back up/restore the stock EFS, its just stuck.

What firmware you on? I would try both the 4.10.x.x and 3.10.x.x to see if it would help your issue.

Anytime. In some "special cases" as santod put it, some people have better luck with the 3.x.x.x firmware on custom roms.

just flashed the 3.0 firmware for special cases and flashed carbon rom nightly. got no data for a while now just 1x i even changed the preferred network to LTE
What recovery are you using? Suggested is either philz latest (works 100%) or TWRP 2.6.3.3 or newer (I use 2.7.0.8 and have had no issues)
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using XDA Free mobile app
TWRP 2.7.1.1
That is odd. Those two are the usual culprits with data issues. If you are okay with it, try philz cwm touch recovery. It always works TWRP is hit and miss with these phones. Some work flawlessly and others hate it.

Verizon has been having service issues on and off the a bit now. I was have the same problem not too long ago. Didn't matter what I did.
