I have used it but only to flash recoveries. It works very well. Try the Lite version.

What exactly are you flashing in Odin (Mobile or otherwise)? Most Roms only provide zip files that are flashable in custom recoveries. Odin is mainly used for switching recoveries. If you want to switch recoveries that often, Naddict always takes the latest and makes a flashable zip directly from the recovery itself. If you want older, he might make one for you.

I've flashed everything with it. Modems can be fickle but I find putting it on root of SD card works well.
Mobile Odin is great if you wish to keep stock recovery and flash stock tars while remaining rooted. Not everyone wishes to have a custom recovery or ROM but would like to use root apps. Believe Mobile Odin author is one such person.
I've used it since it came out. Never any issues.

That's kinda what I want to do is try some different modems and update my prls. I'm running the latest synergy r484 and the 3g/4g can't make up its mind and my service bars aren't consistent since the update. I've used the previous rooms by synergy and never had this issue. I don't know what they changed being somewhat of a noob to rooted customs. Thanks for the insight I'll keep researching.

[Q] JB Update Fails.

So I was happy to read the Tmo GS3 finally getting JB and even happier when my phone pulled it.
However I cannot get it to install.
I'm full stock ROM. I did root via "debugfs-based Root for Galaxy S III"
The first time it failed I remembered I had programs frozen.
Unfroze them, still failed.
So I uninstalled my SuperUser app and told it to remove root.
Both Root Checker and Titanium Backup show no root access.
Update still fails.
Am I missing a step here? Or am I looking at resetting the phone to update it?
Are you updating via OTA or kies. Kies works after root. OTA not so much

OTA.
Going through the settings and telling to check (pull) the update.
Was unaware root broke that :\
I take it even though I'm not not rooted it does not matter.

I'm not seeing binary listed under about device or about device -> status.
I would get the same errors trying to update directly to my phone and instead just updated using kies and it went smooth like silk.

Camera mode right now.
Also tried with debug on and off, but Kies complains when it's off.
So I know it sees it, but does nothing when debug is on.

Ugh, I cant stand kies, personally. Never use it. Imo there is a much better, safer, nore efficient method.
You are rooted so im assuming you want to stay that way correct?
Go to the firmware thread in my sig and towards the top of the op you will see a section called root66.
Download the latest root66 firmware. Extract the file using 7zip, it should be a .tar.md5 file.
You will use Odin to flash this. If you arennt familiar with Odin, go to the 2nd post to download the latest vrrsion, 3.07. Below that you will find instructions for many different methods, find the flash in Odin one and follow the steps.
The root66 firmware is identical to the stock released by T-Mobile, except it comes pre-rooted, so you wont have to worry bout it after!
Good luck whichever way you go!

Op of that thread will tell you to do exactly what I just did a post or so ago. Just sayin that you should update your firmware before flashing custom roms.
Not required, but recommended for running the jb roms. Otherwise you dont get the full update.
Firmware via odin will update 10 partitions, custom roms only 2-3 on average.

Stock with root. Really have no interest in 3rd party ROM's unless it's Nexus style vanilla.

Tried with my laptop, still failed.
For whatever reason, stock rooted then unrooted ROM did not want to be updated either way.
Ended up going with the root66 JB option and ODIN.
Honestly was trying to avoid it, but it was really no hassle and the deed has been done.
Now to get back to restoring everything.

Idk if i did something wrong? idk pls help thanks so much. I personally don't think its a rom...im leaning more towards my phone...its kinda rare that all roms i try are the same.
@firechickenmatt
Make sure that you have a ICS modem, unfortunately on AOSP, the volume is low, and the AOSP keyboard does have gesture typing, but it doesn't come with the swipe keyboard

And if you bounce back between AOSP, CM, and Tw, make sure you change modems according to the dev's instructions. Data won't work on jb roms with ics modems, same as it won't work on aosp and cm with a jb modem.

Yea, the JB update has a jb modem (GB27), ICS modems (FI27, FL24....etc,etc,) don't worry, if you go to rwilco12's android repository, they have all the modems, and there categorised by type, ( GB,ICS and JB)
OK well went back to stock for a while...but same thing happening lol I can't win...every time I turn off WiFi no signal (3g)...and I'm guessing I have jb modem hence the gb27

That's because you can't flash modems using Mobile Odin on our device. You'll have to flash a custom kernel using mobile Odin and then flash the jb modem in cwm.

brain fart it hit me right after i hit send. but i still need a suggestion on a kernel that will work. again i'm doing everything modin odin since i have no USB functionality.
i've never used CWM but i have read about it i have rooted every phone i have own, sticking mostly to stock roms for compatibility issues since i kept reading about this and that not working in this rom or that rom. but things have gotten so much better. i'm ready to explore. i'm running stock ICS and want to get some JB action on my SG2 epic touch. then again i may just upgrade to the SG4 and have the port fixed put it to stock and ebay it

I think I mentioned this to you before. You can't use Mobile Odin to flash modems. It won't work. Are you on a stock jelly bean rom? Stock ics rom? If you are on fl24 rom, use fl24 modem. If you are on gb28 rom, you have to use jb modem. If your usb doesn't work, flash a custom recovery with mobile Odin, boot into recovery, and flash modems that way. Just ensure you have a stock kernel(or custom) of the same build you currently have on your phone in zip format saved to your phone before flashing custom recovery.

-noob question- Is it possible to root/flash roms with out a computer?

Sorry if this is covered somewhere else, I searched but did not find anything. I might be just searching the wrong topic or lack an understanding of these processes in general (lol, which I am sure I do anyway). So I have rooted and flashed custom rom's on other phones but always with the help of these amazingly easy to use how to threads and programs via a computer. Well I find myself in a situation with a kindle nook, Ipad, gs2 and my gs3 but no avaialable computer handy. I was wondering if any downloads have this ability to root/flash with out the aid of the comouter. Any help here is appreciated even if it is to just tell me this is a silly question, but hey if I didn't ask I wouldn't know and you all have been so much help in the past! Thank you

Ya I'll rephrase it since it is untrue, wasn't sure what I read in the past.

i dont manually root anymore these days...
i odin.
i use this rom option and i use odin to flash.
[LINK][ROM][ODIN][TAR]SPH-L710 MD4 (MD4 Modem/Kernel/ROM - Stock)
i really like the self packed odin exe packages.
This is one of the best two ways to root. Easiest simplest and fail safe. Stay away from kits everything goes wrong, wifi and data can break..

Good morning,
I rooted with the method that edfunkycold suggested above. Like I said things have changed dramatically since my Evo 4g on the rooting/rooted front. So I am still considering myself a noob. I flashed TWRP instead of CWM as I used CWM before and TWRP sounded interesting.
Here's my issue and I have searched the internet to no avail. I want/need to do a complete nand backup before flashing anything but wimax is not listed in TWRP backup. Am I missing something? Please help.
Also, I know I can flash within TWRP from the list of compatible roms but are those the only roms available for me since I TWRP'd?
Thanks!
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Wimax? You don't have a wimax phone anymore you have an LTE phone. just reboot into recovery click on backup and create a nandroid keep in mind a TWRP nandroid can not be restored with CWM or visa versa.
Do not download or flash any rom through an app first warning I will share with you. Do not flash from listed roms in TWRP. If you don't find the rom in the XDA Sprint S3 Development Section do not flash it. Or you risk owning a 600 dollar brick. Find the rom and download it from its source. At first I suggest you stick to TW stock based roms. Until your comfortable flashing and using your phone.

As far as I know, flashing modems hasn't worked via mobile odin for quite awhile and I can confirm that it still doesn't work with the new update. For some reason, on the mobile version, flashing a modem doesn't stick. I don't know the exact technicalities behind it(because I'm not a big techie) but yeah, it doesn't stick. Your only option is to use odin via PC. I know and confirm this because I attempted to flash modems via paid mobile odin several times and with this new update, it still doesn't work. Hope this answered your question bud. :good:
