Hello,
Sprint is my carrier.
Samsung Galaxy S3 SPH-L710
Older phone on build JZO54k.L710VPBMD4
V 4.1.2
I see a lot of outdated root guides on the internet. Can someone please tell me which method still works. Not sure of CF Auto Root. Previous phone was HTC Evo 4g that I rooted.

i dont manually root anymore these days...
i odin.
i use this rom option and i use odin to flash.
[LINK][ROM][ODIN][TAR]SPH-L710 MD4 (MD4 Modem/Kernel/ROM - Stock)
i really like the self packed odin exe packages.
This is one of the best two ways to root. Easiest simplest and fail safe. Stay away from kits everything goes wrong, wifi and data can break..

Good morning,
I rooted with the method that edfunkycold suggested above. Like I said things have changed dramatically since my Evo 4g on the rooting/rooted front. So I am still considering myself a noob. I flashed TWRP instead of CWM as I used CWM before and TWRP sounded interesting.
Here's my issue and I have searched the internet to no avail. I want/need to do a complete nand backup before flashing anything but wimax is not listed in TWRP backup. Am I missing something? Please help.
Also, I know I can flash within TWRP from the list of compatible roms but are those the only roms available for me since I TWRP'd?
Thanks!

Wimax? You don't have a wimax phone anymore you have an LTE phone. just reboot into recovery click on backup and create a nandroid keep in mind a TWRP nandroid can not be restored with CWM or visa versa.
Do not download or flash any rom through an app first warning I will share with you. Do not flash from listed roms in TWRP. If you don't find the rom in the XDA Sprint S3 Development Section do not flash it. Or you risk owning a 600 dollar brick. Find the rom and download it from its source. At first I suggest you stick to TW stock based roms. Until your comfortable flashing and using your phone.

Much appreciated. So do you use goo manager? Sorry that's the app I was referring to..

No don't use any of those apps to download roms. Your risking it. Search XDA threads Sprint S3 Development Section only.
Do it on your computer or the xda app or Tapatalk app to find the correct threads.

First post here been browsing xda for a couple years but I just got my phone and noticed flashing and rooting are completely different from my EVO I'm on EL29 could someone direct me to how to root and or even flash a custom rom on my phone I tried this zergling thing and it didn't work out very well could do without flaming or immaturity thanks in advance!

Good starting point would be installing stock rooted rom in to your new phone.
Also, the easiest and convenient way would be following sfhub's one click odin method. Sfhub is very responsive to any user's problem or issue.
Search the threads under his name and follow the guide from there. Most recent rom is fc22 and there' s one thread available under his name.

It's no more unsafe than rooting/flashing on other devices. Just use this for root, GooManager or ROM Manager from the Play Store to flash either TWRP or CWM recovery respectively, and then whichever recovery you choose to flash the ROM of your choice. Not complicated at all, just make sure you read and understand the directions before doing it. If you're unsure of something, read more and search. I won't say every single scenario about rooting and flashing has been covered, but chances are any questions one may have, have already been covered.
The point is that if you feel unsecured about rooting thinking somethin is gona go wrong then give it to someone who has experience at rooting and you'll have nothing to worry about.. Read the stickies on the android development and it will give you info of what you want and need to know

Ok so I'm hoping you guys can help me out with this, but I decided to root my T999 S3 tonight and after installing the custom rom, I'm left with no signal, no IMEI, no nothing, I've tried searching and every thread for some reason has links to other threads but I click on those links and they dont work Anyway I rooted using Odin and installed the latest version of Paranoid Android, any help is greatly appreciated guys!
Alright, by the grace of God, I somehow managed to fix my problem and get data back! Back when I was installing the rom I first installed it and then thought, I should make a backup, although I should have made the backup before installing anything, but I was too excited and it was already too late, but after the backup I decided to reinstall the rom and after booting up ive had problems. I reinstalled to he rom but still no network. Anyway I decided to go back and restore to that backup and BAM! I got data and everything! well I just thought I'd update the thread with what happened and my fix.
Flash the room again, if you get the same problem again, reboot your phone. It's apparently an issue with 4.3 roms.

Yup, that's just assuming though. You never actually told us what exactly you were flashing. For the future, info like that is extremely helpful.
In my T999L thread, linked in sig, after root instructions you will find how to backup nv data. I suggest you do this before anything else.

Read the stickies. Lots you should know is there. Agree with root66 as best option, but others will work too. Up to you.
I did not feel like reading 10,000 Q and A's so here goes. I want to flash a 4.4.2 rom and I think everyone knows twrp 2.6.3.1 will not do it so I have been trying to overwrite it with clockwork but have not been able to on my ATT s3. I have a Verizon I did it to without any problem but everything I try fails. I need help please. What am I doing wrong?

The answer is a topic for another thread. The ROM Manager app could solve your problem, but no one who read your OP knows enough about your failed procedure or your phone's current state to offer specifics.
The 10,000 Q&A are your friends. GUIDES, Indexes, TUTORIALS & Stickys are even friendlier.

Maybe I am on the wrong thread but I thought this was for questions? I am using Dirty Unicorns 4.3.1 and I tried the clockwork application several times but with no success. At one time clockwork was the recovery I was using but I overwrote it with Odin to get team win back but that was when I was content with 4.3.1 Now I flashed liquid smooth 3.0 on my Verizon with clockwork and I would like to try Beanstalk 4.4.2.1......on the Phone I use every day but TWRP fails every time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and I am sorry if this is the wrong thread I am kind of new at all this.

I suggest flashing Philz Touch. You can flash it via Odin (use the tar version) or from your custom recovery (use the zip version).
Philz is based off the latest CWM and it works perfectly on my i747m.

You can adjust the height of the font to make it larger than it would be in cwm.

If you don't like it, you can always flash back CWM Touch. The font colours and background are also changeable.
