It's no more unsafe than rooting/flashing on other devices. Just use this for root, GooManager or ROM Manager from the Play Store to flash either TWRP or CWM recovery respectively, and then whichever recovery you choose to flash the ROM of your choice. Not complicated at all, just make sure you read and understand the directions before doing it. If you're unsure of something, read more and search. I won't say every single scenario about rooting and flashing has been covered, but chances are any questions one may have, have already been covered.

The point is that if you feel unsecured about rooting thinking somethin is gona go wrong then give it to someone who has experience at rooting and you'll have nothing to worry about.. Read the stickies on the android development and it will give you info of what you want and need to know

[Q] Help please possible brick :(

Hey guys so i rooted my phone using odin and was attempting to put on cyanogen mod 10.1 when it failed and i restored to factory settings. then i thought ill restore to my previously saved backup and it stayed at the samsung screen that lights up behind the white lettters. now i tried going into recovery mode and restoring to factory and also tried clear cache and delvik cache. only problem is it still got stuck at the samsung screen so i then tried to reroot it on obin but since there was a binary count of 1 it didnt work what can i dooo
binary count wouldn't stop anything from flashing. after flashing a stock rom with odin again, make sure to go directory into recovery to wipe data/factory reset and then boot up the phone.
I got it working then I tried to put cyanogen 10.1 on and it crashed again idno what the deal is I put it on sd card and loaded it with root manager

root manager? or rom manager?
sent from my I747
Don't use rom manager to flash a rom. Odin back to stock (Samsung devices are special that way) or use one of the root injected firmwares in one of the stickies in the development section. Once you get set up, download goo manager from the play store (you must be rooted to use it). From the menu of goo manager install recovery script, you will then have twrp recovery installed. Then follow the instructions in the op for the rom you want to flash. If this seems foreign to you then Odin back to stock and stay there. If you want to continue to modify your device read and read some more. Tony stark has a thread with all the information you need. Just Google search.

It is easy once you do it once. First time can be overwhelming. I'm a visual learner so I found a YouTube video for the phone and followed it step by step. Now I'm almost flashing them in my sleep.

So I know I'm rooted right now on my s3 so do I have to go back to stock and reboot it before I flash a rom? Or can I just do it like in the video now and flash it from recovery mode
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
Just odin to stock and reroot, reflash recovery, and restore backup

It's only a soft brick. As long as you can get into download mode you can use Odin to return to stock.

If it was bricked you don't get a chance to keep bricking it. Stay with stock until you feel more comfortable with the process.

Odin

Any roms here that arent cwm/twrp flahable zips that I can flash using odin and have a kernel with cwm or twrp? I'm coming from the sgs4g and haven't done anything to this phone yet. I looked around in the dev threads but unless I overlooked I only see cwm and twrp roms.

Why would u wanna odin when u can flash via one of those recoverys?
To me it's easier to just odin a rom with a custom recovery and have root then to go through any other process. Then again I haven't had a lot of spare time so I only glanced over the guide to do it for this phone.

Please lead me to the appropriate root method

Hello,
Sprint is my carrier.
Samsung Galaxy S3 SPH-L710
Older phone on build JZO54k.L710VPBMD4
V 4.1.2
I see a lot of outdated root guides on the internet. Can someone please tell me which method still works. Not sure of CF Auto Root. Previous phone was HTC Evo 4g that I rooted.

i dont manually root anymore these days...
i odin.
i use this rom option and i use odin to flash.
[LINK][ROM][ODIN][TAR]SPH-L710 MD4 (MD4 Modem/Kernel/ROM - Stock)
i really like the self packed odin exe packages.
This is one of the best two ways to root. Easiest simplest and fail safe. Stay away from kits everything goes wrong, wifi and data can break..

Good morning,
I rooted with the method that edfunkycold suggested above. Like I said things have changed dramatically since my Evo 4g on the rooting/rooted front. So I am still considering myself a noob. I flashed TWRP instead of CWM as I used CWM before and TWRP sounded interesting.
Here's my issue and I have searched the internet to no avail. I want/need to do a complete nand backup before flashing anything but wimax is not listed in TWRP backup. Am I missing something? Please help.
Also, I know I can flash within TWRP from the list of compatible roms but are those the only roms available for me since I TWRP'd?
Thanks!
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Wimax? You don't have a wimax phone anymore you have an LTE phone. just reboot into recovery click on backup and create a nandroid keep in mind a TWRP nandroid can not be restored with CWM or visa versa.
Do not download or flash any rom through an app first warning I will share with you. Do not flash from listed roms in TWRP. If you don't find the rom in the XDA Sprint S3 Development Section do not flash it. Or you risk owning a 600 dollar brick. Find the rom and download it from its source. At first I suggest you stick to TW stock based roms. Until your comfortable flashing and using your phone.

Much appreciated. So do you use goo manager? Sorry that's the app I was referring to..

No don't use any of those apps to download roms. Your risking it. Search XDA threads Sprint S3 Development Section only.
Do it on your computer or the xda app or Tapatalk app to find the correct threads.

How to revert from 4.3 BACK To 4.1.....no brick!

If someone could show me how to post a link that allows you to flash TWRP onto 4.3 then you can kick Samsung's generic version of Ft. Knox to the curb. I have the one click Odin file on my phone..... Just don't know how to get it out to everyone else.

Wow I can't believe no answers yet.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Really? You need a link to TWRP recovery? Or "a link that allows you to flash twrp"? I'm confused. :what: You can flash twrp on 4.3 through odin. But if you flash TWRP that trips Knox, and even if you somehow flash back to 4.1.2, you still have a voided warranty. So why not just flash a touchwiz 4.1.2 rom (not through odin). Unless you found a way to go back and get rid of the bootloader? I'm sorry I'm just confused. But if you need to post a link upload it to a host. Then share the link.
If you need a recovery might I suggest this one:

Good catch. He just created this thread by itself after asking the same question in another thread. The other thread that he posted in was a response to someone hard bricking there phone trying to down grade the bootloader. I assumed he got an old bootloader you work. The way he worded it in this thread does leave it open either way.

Keep stock recovery.

Hello i would like to root my s4 mini, but i want to keep everything stock. Including the recovery. Is this possible? Thanks

There are no root methods I know of that automagically install CWM or any other custom recovery. If all you do is root, all you'll have is root.
Also, in the future, if you post a topic in the Q&A forum and either don't get a response or don't get the response you want, you should refrain from reposting it in another forum.

This one does not involve flashing any custom recovery prior to rooting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2611971
Some developers have also released some pre-rooted roms which do not need to modify the stock recovery..
You may spend some time searching for different methods.

Use the CWM method and after the phone is rooted, you can install back the stock recovery.
Attached. Unzip and flash in Odin as PDA/AP.
