First post here been browsing xda for a couple years but I just got my phone and noticed flashing and rooting are completely different from my EVO I'm on EL29 could someone direct me to how to root and or even flash a custom rom on my phone I tried this zergling thing and it didn't work out very well could do without flaming or immaturity thanks in advance!

Good starting point would be installing stock rooted rom in to your new phone.
Also, the easiest and convenient way would be following sfhub's one click odin method. Sfhub is very responsive to any user's problem or issue.
Search the threads under his name and follow the guide from there. Most recent rom is fc22 and there' s one thread available under his name.

You have to use odin to root... search for qbking videos on how to root the epic on gingerbread... or find the ec05.tar and use the one click root.... then upgrade cwm to 5.0.2.7 and flash away...

If you wanna preroot, download a stock tar and download a recovery bin for cwm then put that in the tar and boot to recovery and flash a superuser zip
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA
Or you can Odin in an EC05 prerooted tar, flash CWM5 and flash your ROM of choice. Here is one:

There just way too many threads regarding official ics update. So can somebody please guide me. I'm currently rooted running cm9 I want to go back and install the recent update. With the 3d it was easy because I could just place the rom in my SD card and install it. But from what I'm reading there is extra steps I need to take on the epic. Thank you for your help! God is going to bless you with at least 6 kids.

God already gave me 7 so I'll pass on the kids but...
If you want flash the OTA update, flash back to EL29 stock (search EL29 One Click). The OTA ROM has been posted here ("How to manually update..." in General Forum) so just follow the instructions (I believe rename to update.zip, then go to stock recovery and select "install update.zip") but that is from memory.

I have flashed hundreds of times on my Telus T989D. I have never reset my flash counter. Yet when I go in to download mode it reads as if I have never flashed anything..
Just wanted to share that. I'm not sure if that's weird or unusual

That's probably because your flashing with CWM or TWRP and not Odin. I know the counter will start counting if you flash either a whole ROM or Kernel. Not 100% sure if it's for both cases but I remember it was something in the lines of that. I think just flashing a modem through Odin doesn't tic the counter.

Yeah the only time u used Odin was when I first rooted and added cwn. Since then I've been using other recoveries to flash Roms with kernels, themes, mods, etc, etc

Oops my bad. I didn't check the links since I already had the tmo version on my phone, but from what I've read you have to make sure to flash the correct version for your phone. Not sure what would happen if you flashed the tmo version on the telus version, but I dont think I'd be willing to find out
telus link please
I made the mistake of trying to flash t-mobile stock rom through ODIN. It failed and now my counter went to one. My phone is a T989D.
Does anyone have the flash counter reset for TELUS T989D or any instructions as to how to reset it?
thanks

A friend of mine flashed the wrong modem on his phone and now can't get it to boot, it just boot loops, I tried putting the correct modem on it and same thing, I also tried flashing the zip file to return the phone completely back to stock and it still continues to do the same thing, can anyone help me out?
Not personally knowing if flashing the "wrong modem" can perma-brick Samsung stuff, I might recommend you try Odin'ing back to stock before giving up. (Sorry, can't link you, on my phone and watching a movie.) I'm sure one of our esteemed members will point you in the right direction to a "one click". Or tell you that you're cooked.

You arent cooked. You need to use a one click that will destroy data. You dont want the no data version.

Dude, from the time of your OP, until now? You could have read every dev thread here, and figured this out.
Look for a thread by the user Garwynn, he has the stock "one clicks". Download it and run it with your phone plugged into a computer.
Read the instructions. Easy peasy, man.

i dont manually root anymore these days...
i odin.
i use this rom option and i use odin to flash.
[LINK][ROM][ODIN][TAR]SPH-L710 MD4 (MD4 Modem/Kernel/ROM - Stock)
i really like the self packed odin exe packages.
This is one of the best two ways to root. Easiest simplest and fail safe. Stay away from kits everything goes wrong, wifi and data can break..

Good morning,
I rooted with the method that edfunkycold suggested above. Like I said things have changed dramatically since my Evo 4g on the rooting/rooted front. So I am still considering myself a noob. I flashed TWRP instead of CWM as I used CWM before and TWRP sounded interesting.
Here's my issue and I have searched the internet to no avail. I want/need to do a complete nand backup before flashing anything but wimax is not listed in TWRP backup. Am I missing something? Please help.
Also, I know I can flash within TWRP from the list of compatible roms but are those the only roms available for me since I TWRP'd?
Thanks!
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Wimax? You don't have a wimax phone anymore you have an LTE phone. just reboot into recovery click on backup and create a nandroid keep in mind a TWRP nandroid can not be restored with CWM or visa versa.
Do not download or flash any rom through an app first warning I will share with you. Do not flash from listed roms in TWRP. If you don't find the rom in the XDA Sprint S3 Development Section do not flash it. Or you risk owning a 600 dollar brick. Find the rom and download it from its source. At first I suggest you stick to TW stock based roms. Until your comfortable flashing and using your phone.

No don't use any of those apps to download roms. Your risking it. Search XDA threads Sprint S3 Development Section only.
Do it on your computer or the xda app or Tapatalk app to find the correct threads.
