So i have a epic 4gt. Ive tried a few different roms 4.2.2 and everyone i try i don't get any 3g, no swipe, and cant send or receive pic mail through mms, and also volume seems to be way lower then stock. Idk if i did something wrong? idk pls help thanks so much. I personally don't think its a rom...im leaning more towards my phone...its kinda rare that all roms i try are the same.
@firechickenmatt
Make sure that you have a ICS modem, unfortunately on AOSP, the volume is low, and the AOSP keyboard does have gesture typing, but it doesn't come with the swipe keyboard

And if you bounce back between AOSP, CM, and Tw, make sure you change modems according to the dev's instructions. Data won't work on jb roms with ics modems, same as it won't work on aosp and cm with a jb modem.

Settings/about phone/baseband version. Should be able to take it from there
Sent from my SPH-D710BST using xda premium
Yea, the JB update has a jb modem (GB27), ICS modems (FI27, FL24....etc,etc,) don't worry, if you go to rwilco12's android repository, they have all the modems, and there categorised by type, ( GB,ICS and JB)
OK well went back to stock for a while...but same thing happening lol I can't win...every time I turn off WiFi no signal (3g)...and I'm guessing I have jb modem hence the gb27

What Rom? What baseband version?

I'm having same problem. Im using Mobile Odin. I've used every gb27 version on rwilco's site same results... No data. Went back to ics got data back. My usb port is bad so I can only use mobile Odin right now.
PS everything stock only root added. Just bounced from fl24 to gb28 and back

That's because you can't flash modems using Mobile Odin on our device. You'll have to flash a custom kernel using mobile Odin and then flash the jb modem in cwm.

Cwm is clockwork mod...don't flash anything before you read a whole lot. There is a guide by VeNuM about CWM....

You cannot use mobile odin to flash modems. You'll have to download a zip and flash via cwm (recovery).

I hate to say this, but if you don't know what CWM is, you are a noob. You need to spend some time reading before you touch anything else on your device.

brain fart it hit me right after i hit send. but i still need a suggestion on a kernel that will work. again i'm doing everything modin odin since i have no USB functionality.
i've never used CWM but i have read about it i have rooted every phone i have own, sticking mostly to stock roms for compatibility issues since i kept reading about this and that not working in this rom or that rom. but things have gotten so much better. i'm ready to explore. i'm running stock ICS and want to get some JB action on my SG2 epic touch. then again i may just upgrade to the SG4 and have the port fixed put it to stock and ebay it

I think I mentioned this to you before. You can't use Mobile Odin to flash modems. It won't work. Are you on a stock jelly bean rom? Stock ics rom? If you are on fl24 rom, use fl24 modem. If you are on gb28 rom, you have to use jb modem. If your usb doesn't work, flash a custom recovery with mobile Odin, boot into recovery, and flash modems that way. Just ensure you have a stock kernel(or custom) of the same build you currently have on your phone in zip format saved to your phone before flashing custom recovery.

Is there anyway to "odin" my phone without using odin?
I want to it to b straight out of the box but. My phone won't connect to my computer so I can't use odin or any program that requires usb connection
Other than th regular " factory reset" button in my phone is there any app or anything I can use to getmy phone back to stock?

No. But there are ROMs you can flash that are very close to stock. Search for ReRFS ROM in development.

Nope. ONLY way (unless someone can prove me, and the "higher ups" wrong) to change your modem is odin or wait for an official release.

and its cuz im having a problem and its really driving me crazy i cant get my phone to connect to my computer ive tried everything possible even bought a new usb but still no

I recently rooted my phone with EL29 full restore one click Odin. I want to try the tFD10_v0.1.0 ROM do I have to modem to FD10 in order to flash this ROM or can I stay on EL29. How does it work I see a lot if roms with FD05 or 10 does that mean I can't flash them since my modem is EL29.

Ok first off this info is all over the place and I advise prior to taking the plunge into ICS you read up on EVERYTHING and when I say EVERYTHING I MEAN EVERYTING. Now with that said you can either Odin or flash the modem onto your phone but it is not required to run the ICS rom. Also you can run an IcS modem with a GB rom.
Once again all this info is in xda as asking you may feel is easier but please please please for all thats holy...LOL just do some research before going forward. Dont want to see your phone become a paperweight. Go into his ICS thread and read like 10-20 pages and see whats going on prior to flashing... JUst MY thouGHTs...
Edit: to clarify
Modems = Any modem for any rom ICS or GB you can try them all if you like
Kernels= ICS kernels only for ICS roms / GB kernels only for GB roms
Ok I'm going to stay away from ics for now. I do want to try the FD05 leak by using one click Odin though so can I just Odin over my setup now which is Calkulin E4GT v 3.0 cause I'm already rooted? Sorry if I'm not making sense I'm trying to word it properly

Check out this thread prior to messing with ICS stuff http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525495. My phone is currently bricked so be careful.
Trying to figure out how to go from jb 4.1.1 jro03 to ics fi27. it's not the newest jb leak that just came out. the one from around a month or 2 ago. says my baseband version is ff18. if that means anything.
i'm having data connections in my home town and have to call sprint. when they tell me to dial ##*****# it wont do nothing. when i try to do system updates it calls sprint customer service and nothing happens. so i need to put it back to ics so i can get my data issue fixed. just wanna have the latest version of ics rooted. dont care of factory reset. i have everything backed up
they will wanna disconnect me from the network to fix the issue. they just did it to my wifes e4gt and it worked. i am in north dallas and they are upgrading the towers (data upgrades). i haven't had decent connection since friday when they started.
thanks for any help in advance.

let me get this right before i start.
choose the fi27 rooted option, rom no data, rooted? can i preserve my data going from jb to ics? sorry still a newbie at this.
No if you're downgrading from jb to ics you need to wipe user data. Oh and baseband is your modem btw so you're running ff18 modem it has no connection to what rom you run
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
It is best to wipe data when downgrading. You can however use titanium backup to make a backup of your user apps, then after wiping and installing FI27 you can then restore your apps and data. I've had no issues doing that. It just doesn't work if you try to restore a JB specific app.

So I flashed pa2.53 and the 4.2 gapps and got signal, then I tried the nexus4g modem still no signal. Then tried to odin back to stock now my phone is stuck in airplane mode. I've flashed other roms before and lost the modem but was always able to flash back or odin another modem. Is there anyway I can fix this besides flashing back to stock and going to sprint?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
Reflash PA, NS4G AIO, and gapps again. Only way I could fix it 2 weeks ago.
You may have to flash the AIO twice to get it to stick.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2
I've tried that and has worked in the past. This is different though now its stuck in flight/airplane mode. I'm hoping its not a hardware issue
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
Are you wiping before the reflash or dirty flashing?
If wiping, looks like an Odin back to stock might be the only solution.

check /system/lib and delete libsec-40.so
check build prop and make sure epic rill is "#"ed out and crespo ril is in.
i am assuming you want crespo 4g modem. its not likely you will have to odin.
I've done clean installs more than once and odin with victory pit and d700-fco9 tar which always did the trick before. None of that is working. Although I still get wifi.

Clean installs won't help. The only way you can get out of it is by clearing the NvRam. Download the respective modem.bin file of the current stock Rom you are on, b. Flash it using old Odin1.8* with Phone EFS clear and auto reboot ticked. Update your PRL and Nam if you have a backup. That should get your phone working.
Samsung Galaxy™ SIII Tapatalk
After dealing with this same issue and the nexus patch (which I stopped using for better compatibility), just ODIN the FC09 modem.bin. It can be found among the sticky threads.

I currently have this problem as well. I'm stuck using the nexus modem. I did odin back to stock and was able to get back on the stock modem BUT when I try to flash CM7 or CM9 it flashes it but brings up "no service". Sooooo what's the secret...???? Please help me...

Either Odin with the EFS clear then flash the Epic modem or there is some kernel jumping game someone mentioned.

Yep I did that. I odin and cleared EFS. (As long as I'm on stock, Im back on the FC09 modem). So once I verified that, I flashed CM7 and it says no service. I must be missing a step or something. Is there a step by step on how to get back to epic modem from a nexus modem? If not, maybe we should think about creating one.

As Ranger stated....your rom will not be touched unless you choose to change it..
Cleanrom does not contain a modem.bin.....g
Ive been having problems with my modem which is why ive changed it. Its mainly when im connected to wifi but not always, it says I also have 4g but I cannot make/receive calls or texts.
So simplest way to change it would be to select a rom that has a built in modem?
Thanks again
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
4G is the data side of the connection. The sms and voice goes through the GPRS connection. They are not related. It sounds like a location problem or antenna problem.
Just changing the modem is easy - download and flash.
Does your sim work correctly in another phone?
Ive tried variois modems to no avail. I cannot test my sim bc I don't have another phone to test it with.
Ive decided to unroot and reset counter and return to stock so I can bring it to an at&t store. I did part of the process last night but I think I did it backwards.

I can't offer a link. . . when you do these things to your phone you void your warranty.
I'm sure I will get flamed for being old fashioned or called a douchebag, but everyone is warned about this.
