Hey guys,
For a couple of days, I got my Xperia S. It's very fast and smooth, it feels great.
Before I had the Xperia X8 ;P
At the moment my XS runs on Stock Kernel, Stock ROM, Bootloader is locked and its unrooted.
So, today I played Modern Combat 4 and its runs very well, but sometimes I've got some lags and I was wondering because the Xperia S must be fast enough to runs this game complete smoothly, isn't it?
And now my question is: Is it worth it to flash a custom kernel and custom rom?
Will my Xperia S be faster and for example Modern Combat 4 will be runs smooth?
I often read that Xperia SSpeed Kernel is faster than Stock Kernel and it will overclocking the CPU (safely).
What does this mean "safely overclocking"?
If you overclocking your phone, the processor will be break down faster ... but I want to use this phone a couple of years ...
Because I don't want that my phone bricks or something like that, because I love my XS ...
I hope you understand me, sorry for my bad english ...

According to me it is worth it. I mess wit the ROMs almost every week, just for fun, but because they are faster as well, however if modern combat 4 does not run smoothly, it must be sony original software, because I use sony stock rom, with modifications (XTX rom) with stock kernel and it works fine. I suggest that you start with the roms what do not require bootoader unlock. According to me it cant go worse. And if you feel the phone still is slow then unlock your bootloader and try custom kernels.

I had also X8 unlocked bootloader & then Xperia s.I would suggest you to unlock your bootloader but not for stock ics or other kernel but for jb & their kernels. As far i know sony has given Xperia sl overclocked. So if u dont want to take chance just increase frequency little bit & use governor lagfree. No probs then

Thank your for your advice.
Can you please tell me, which (jb) Kernel and (jb) ROM is fast enough and battery friendly? Because at the moment I had just seen custom Kernels/ROMs for ICS ...

hi guys, i was wondering, can you install same rom on arc and arc s? i mean, is there any difference between roms for arc and arc s. i have arc s with 1.4 GHz processor, and currenty i am using that pureness 13 but i want to flash 4.2.2 if possible, so i went to the cyanogenmod offical site, to download cm10, and there it says that it is just for ARC, its called anzu. is that for arc s, too?

Should work. This ROM, for example, works on both: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2267230
The only thing different is the partition layout. You can prevent problems by flashing a stock ROM for ARC using the Flashtool application.
I own an arc s and I'm pretty active with flashing and modding etc... everything that works on arc works on arc s as well no difference.
So if you see codename "ayame" or "anzu" it's the same. Arc S has only I higher OC capability bcz it has a higher cpu clock, other than that it's the same as arc, same software

Yes my friend, anzu is for arc and arc s. I've used all CM releases 7/9/10/10.1
I would recommended CM10 for you now because it's more stable and bug free compared to cm10.1, and cm9 lags and stutters like stock ICS it sucks. When cm10.1 is 100% fixed it will beat them all.
I am on cm10.1 now and it's really stable for daily use, camera is better than cm10, only a few problems like poor battery life and reboot when charged to 100%. Those are all problems caused by the new linux 3.4 kernel for cm10.1
CM9/10 work with old 2.6 kernel which is more stable for now
However you should know that you can't get HDMI with any custom ROM on xperia devices, and the camera quality is lower compared to stock ics camera with all features... Other than that CM7/9/10/10.1 work fine (GSM, BT, Wifi ...)

is it neccesary to do step 3. ??
3.Flash CM kernel
a. extract boot.img from zip file
b. power off device
c. press volume up (2012 devices) / menu (2011 devices)
d. plug usb and blue led will be lit
e. on computer type in same folder where you have boot.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
will it work without this step? can i just flash ROM? because i am not sure i will be able to do it, i never flashed kernels before, i didn't had to.. i guess i need more clear instructions...

Could you explain this process to me,
3.Flash CM kernel
a. extract boot.img from zip file
b. power off device
c. press volume up (2012 devices) / menu (2011 devices)
d. plug usb and blue led will be lit
e. on computer type in same folder where you have boot.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
especially step E. and in my rom folder there is META-INF, system and boot.img, where can i get gapps, and are the even neccesary. thx again
Yes they are very very necessary if not you will get stuck on the Sony logo like 90% of other people who freak out
All CM roms need a custom kernel.
And all the steps are necessary. They are there for a reason.
Extract boot.img from the zip to location of your choice. Open Flashtool click lightning icon select fastboot. In the menu that appears select select kernel to flash. Find kernel, put phone in fastboot (menu + phone to USB and NO POWER BUTTON), and flash.
Do a Google search for JB4.1.2 gapps.

Link to gapps (Google Apps): http://goo.im/gapps
Depending on the Android and CyanogenMod version, pick the right one and flash it in Recovery the same was as the ROM, just do not wipe anything.
Yes both Arc and Arc s are the same when it comes to the roms and kernels they both use, the only difference is the slight higher clock speed the Arc s has!

Yes you have to follow all these steps.
YOU MUST HAVE UNLOCKED YOUR BOOTLOADER!
copy the zip to your sd card
backup whatever you want to backup (msgs/contacts/whatsapp...) cz all your personal data will be gone
power off the phone
hold menu button and plug in the usb cable, you'll see a blue led light which means you've entered fastboot mode (for flashing kernels)
now use fastboot command line to flash the kernel (You must have downloaded fastboot from android sdk, search xda for it)
open a command window in the same folder as fastboot.exe and type:
fastboot flash boot "your kernel path here"
hit enter
then type fastboot reboot
now when the phone starts up keep pressing volume down until you enter recovery mode
wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik-cache and wipe system from advanced menu
now go to install zip from sd card and browse for cm zip and install it
then install gapps if you have them and reboot
now you should run cm10

first thing sorry for my bad english , and my noob questions, this is my first android phone and here is the story...
hello guys, i just bought xperia ion, and it is already lagging in 4.1.2 version
i am noob, and heard that people here make fast android versions for old phones
my question is what is the best and most stable , and most important, fast and smooth rom ; that i can install on xperia ion
i want something stable bcuz i won't make anychanges later in the android version, and i won't update it
just something that will hold good for a year , and has nice performance
Best Rom in my experience
I am using Xperia ion for the past couple of years...I tried out almost every rom which is available for the device and in my opinion I would suggest you to install this Rom [ROM][PARANOID ANDROID 2.53][Xperia ION - JB 4.1.2] (update 13/07/2013) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953780
It is smooth, fast and also bug free. Even the battery life is good
Android 5.0 AOSP already working well in xperia Z. Is it possible to port it into our Xperia ZL ? Any ZL developer willing to port it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/orig-development/exp-lollipop-xperia-z-t2929369
Porting Lollipop to ZL
It would be amazing:fingers-crossed:
Devs (for instance SuperHanss for what I've heard) are already working on this. Remember that this is not easy, be patient. I am holding my breath waiting for it too and would love to see it, but I think it might take a while. Odin is not so popular as Yuga and less developers are working on it.
