I want to modify the android HTC One X in such a way that the user turning off the phone by pressing the "power off" thought he was actually turned off the phone, but the phone really does go into a "hidden mode" (to turn off the screen, the phone has not taken SMS and incoming calls, is to operate the GPS and data transfer). Does anyone know how to do this or knows who can do such a modification?

Hi all,
received my O2 Oribt this morning and have spent most of the day playing around and trying to get it set up. I have tried a few things and failed at a few things and now have some questions.
1) as far as a stand-by mode goes...it just fades out the backlight right? theres no screen saver or blank screen option? I did see an option to turn the unit off after x number of minutes but surely this means it wont receive calls or anything, not much good as a phone when it's turned off.
2) I can't find anywhere where I can set the device name for bluetooth. Is there anywhere to do this?
3) is it possible to change the text message alert tone?
4) I recently read a thread about a T9 input cab. does this allow you to write text messages as in a 'normal' phone - using a number pad and not the keyboard and stylus?
I'm sure I'll have some more questions at some point!!
many thanks for any help
I would start by saying having taken the manual out of the box? and secondly have you actually started to read it.
1/ You are pressing the power button for too long a simple press and release is all that is needed to turn the unit off. Press and hold the power button and the back light goes out (as you have found). The phone part is not actually switched off even with the screen off, if a call comes in it will wake up, you can turn the phone off by putting the device in flight mode, or settings/ Phone.
2/ Why do you want to change the BT device name, it should be the same as the owner IIRC
3/ Start/ Settings/ personal/ Sounds and notifications
4/ Never used that so cannot comment - Mike
Any way to disable auto device lock after ending a call on the Verizon TP2? I tried a cab but it didn't work. After I hang up or end a call, the phone automatically locks itself requiring me to press Unlock then type in the password (none in my case, just tap Unlock again).
Also, is there any hack/tweak to add a "screen off" button for Windows Media Player? It lets you set one but anything other than a keyboard key isn't recognized. Closing the device after turning the screen off just turns the screen back on, and using the standby power button on top stops the music from playing.
Finally, is there a way to make it so the power button (standby power on top) has to be held for a couple of seconds before it turns the screen on, or off?
This is for the Verizon Touch Pro 2. Thanks for any help in advance!
Bump! Anyone?
I have the same problem with locking after a call. Anyone have any idea?
i believe the cab ur looking for to disable the auto lock is called "disable_devide_autolock" or something of that nature ***note, you must soft reset after install for the changes totake effect***
Has it always done this? I have a VZ TP2, and it doesn't lock after a call. It only locks when the phone reaches the pre-set time limit. Maybe setting got bumped somehow?
After I end a call on my Desire it remains in the "Phone screen" and requires that I push the Home button to return to the home screen before putting the phone down. Is there a way to get the phone to automatically return to your Home screen after you finish a call? Seems like a logical function to me but I can't find any way to set the phone to do it?

Are you running Stock HTC? I know that with the Android dialer you'll have to uncheck the function to stay in dialer after a call....so the no option "return to home screen" but there is "return to dialer" which, when unchecked does the same thing ofcourse
My phone is a stock HTC Desire purchased retail in Hong Kong. It is not tied to any carrier. If there is a selection to return to menu I swear I can't find it.
When I swapped from the iPhone to android, I really missed the button on the top of the phone to end calls. It was very convenient, I think.
I was therefore delighted to see that the desire had a button on top that I upgraded from my hero immediately (amongst other reasons of course!)
Problem is, when you press it while in a call, it just turns the screen off. Does anyone know if someone has developed a hack to end the call with the power button?

Download and flash the Defrost 0.9 ROM from richardtrip. In Accesibility in settings, you can then enable the end the call from power button
While froyo is cool, I'd prefer to do this in my current sense Rom.

Strange that it doesn't work when in-call. I know it (the power button) disconnects/hangs-up a call whilst ringing, because I often accidentally press it whilst pulling it out of my belt case and it hangs-up the incoming call. Grrrrrr
It's been a long-lasting problem for me, but for some reason, after restarting my phone, my HTC 10 tends to always make my multi-tasking button activate twice.
Instead of the regular, press once (vibrate once) to see all screens, my HTC 10 turns the multi-task button into: press once (vibrate twice) and activate split screen.
I am really confused at what is happening with my phone. Is it a physical problem with my phone? Or can it be fixed with just a change in settings?
