Why is my HTC 10's multi-task button activating twice? - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

It's been a long-lasting problem for me, but for some reason, after restarting my phone, my HTC 10 tends to always make my multi-tasking button activate twice.
Instead of the regular, press once (vibrate once) to see all screens, my HTC 10 turns the multi-task button into: press once (vibrate twice) and activate split screen.
I am really confused at what is happening with my phone. Is it a physical problem with my phone? Or can it be fixed with just a change in settings?

semi-bricked HTC touch dual

Ok, I'm double posting this coz I'm near panic... So if anyone of you guys can help me out, that'd be very great...
My phone is a HTC Touch Dual, non-branded.
First, what I did:
I had this irritating problem with keypad backlight. Posted it in the Niki forum, and downloaded KeiserTweak as suggested.
I changed the following settings:
Call
- ringtone: set to vibrate 3 times and increasing ring
Keyboard
- Backlight Timeout set to 30 seconds
Power Managment
- Memory Card enabled
- PPTP1 enabled
- L2TP1 enabled
ClearType
- Landscape enabled
- PocketIE enabled
HTC Application
- Music Tab - not sure anymore
- Music Player for HTC Home Plugin - not sure anymore
- Unlock HTC Home enabled
- Scroll, Zoom and Rotate in HTC Album - not sure anymore
- X Button in HTC Album - not sure anymore
- HTC Home e-mail button - not sure anymore
Cache
- File System Cache
- File System Filter Cache
- GDI/Font Cache
-cant remember, but checked something to optimize display of images.
I think the rest of the settings remained default.
Now the following:
If I start up my phone it will 'hang' like it's low on resources. If I'm very quick about entering my unlock password and my PIN the device just hangs after a while. The screen just goes black. If I slide open the keypad, I have the HTC action menu. If I choose an action, like 'new sms' the color-circle-hourglass-thingy appears, and stops. Then the phone becomes unresponsive. Except if I press and hold the power button - I get the prompt '...do you want to continue?' switching off the phone. If I tap 'no' the dialogbox doesn't disappear.
Tried so far:
-soft reset
-hard reset
-removing SD card
-removing SIM card
-on AC power
-on battery
I'm new to this, I never flashed a device like this and it is my first PDA. Had it for like 4 days now.
Please help.
Grtz

These are the numbers I get when booting:
M 04
B 04
R 1.58.16.27
G 25.61.30.03H
D 1.31
Ok,
This is going to be stupid, but I'll admit to it anyway...
I've read in the manual on how to perform a hard rest. It states to push the send and end buttons, keep the pushed in, and then press the soft reset button until a text appears on the screen. That text states to press "Enter" to continue, and any other key to cancel. Well, the 'Enter' key to me is the 'enter' key on that qwerty keypad, not the shiny silver button between the Send and End buttons.
To the writer of the manual the enter key on the keypad does not exist.
So that's why a hard reset did not help. Because I did not perform one.
My bad. Anyways, my phone is ok again, sorry for the doublepost.
Grtz

Hi Lucasss, what you did it's not stupid, because when you have a pda with a hardware keyboard, the "Enter" key, as written in the manual, is the one everyone calls the "Enter" key on th keyboard and not the center button!!!
I'm telling you this because I encountered the same problem...
I spent the entire morning trying to hard reset my touch dual as I had a problem like yours. After a thousand attempts to do that hell of a hard reset, I decided to pull off the battery and wait for the backup battery to go dead (that could take as much as a week more or less...)!!
Searching and searching I found your post and got the solution to my problem!
So I thank you so much, you made me a re-happy man...

Standby loop

When trying to set my Desire into standby mode by pressing the power button it switches on the display again at once. Even trying some other ROMs doesn't fix the problem.
Does anyone know why and has a solution for this problem?
Your power button might be damaged. Look for a screen lock app on the playstore and use it to put your device to sleep instead of using the power button.
via xda app
Same with such an app. Display comes back again.
Volume button sems to be active too cause after display comes back sometimes the volume setting "sound " appears .
No idea or wrong category here?
Did you activate a "volume key wake" that enables volume keys to wake up the device ?
On my Desire these buttons can be a bit hard to push sometimes, maybe you have the opposite effect ?
Edit : such settings may be found in the "display" section of the settings tab
No, even several other Roms didnĀ“t fix the problem.
Also watched: the volume funktion seems to be active in background too cause after almost every "wake up" the ring volume setting is displayed for 1 second.
Seems to be a hardware problem but the Desire did not fall down or sth like that...
When choosing trackball or volume key for wakeup in the settings, the display always switches on and off. Power button still causes a hard reset.

[Q] Screen not starting up for power button

Hi,
I started to get a weird problem since last week. I've had this phone for about 3 months now and never had any problem like this.
It all started one morning when I wanted to stop phone alarm. The alarm was going off but the screen was black. I pressed the power button to wake up, but it was still black. After couple of times pressing the power button the screen came up. First it was not that often but the situation started to get worse. It came to that I can sometimes cannot turn it on for a long period of time. I need to keep pressing power button, volume buttons and eventually it will come up.
This is what I've found so far:
1) When the power button is pressed, although the screen doesn't start up, I can see the three buttons at the bottom lighting up. So it is not a problem of the power button.
2) When the power button is pressed, although the screen doesn't power up, the screen seems responsive. I can feel the vibrations when I tap (I have a startup password)
3) When the phone is connected to a power supply, screen always starts up without a problem.
4) Screen will start up more frequently when the batter power is high.
It seems as though there is a connection between batters power and the screen not starting up. But then again, once the screen comes up (after not starting up), then it works fine, until I turn the screen off.
Has anybody experienced anything like this before?
I did a factory reset thinking it might be some application I installed but it didnt help.
I had to send this phone once to repair the speaker and cost more than $80 just for courier. I don't want to spend another to get this fixed.
Thanks.
I have this problem or a problem very close to this. I have a HTC One X (international version). I'm running the latest version and updates and the problem has existed for at least the last two updates.
Android Version 4.1.1
HTC Sense version 4+
Software number 3.18.401.1
I have the screen lock pattern turned on.
Sometimes when I hit the power button, the phone does not turn on and so I press it again and only after a third press does the phone turn on. I then unlock the phone and use as normal. So, several times per day I have to press the power button three times before the phone turns on. But other times I press the power button once and it turns on straight away. I've just turned the pattern unlock off to see if this makes any difference. I'll start to record the exact details of when I experience this and see if we can work out a common cause.
Hopefully if enough people report this problem then they can send out an update to fix this problem.

I'm pretty sure this is a hardware issue. I bought mine from Expansys and sent it back to them for repair. It's been more than a month and they say they're still reparing it.
In my case it was impossible for me to start the screen up with power button no matter how much I pressed it. The only thing that worked for me was to press the back of the phone just below the camera. So it seems like a hardware issue. But on the other hand, at times when I can't get the screen turned on no matter what I do, I'd turn the phone off and start again and the thing would start up like nothing happened. So while I'm pretty sure it is a HW issue, I'm not sure how a power restart makes it work.
For me I don't think that this is a hardware problem as it only started happening once I did the big upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1 and then it follows a specific pattern. That is three power button presses will always turn it on. Less frequently I also get a problem where the power button turns on the three lights on the soft buttons but the screen remains black. I then hit the power button to turn it off, and again to turn it on and the phone is back to normal again.
Is yours an international version? I bought mine an international version and had it shipped to Australia.
solved?
Hi - did anyone ever solve this? This is happening to me with my HTC desire X after having had the screen repaired, so I think it is hardware related, but the shop doesn't know how to fix it! My screen also does not turn back on when I want to end a phone call and pull the phone away from my face anymore. These problems seem related as they started at the same time. I would be grateful for help!

My p6 power button is unstable/faulty. Frequent restart. Help

So I was wondering if I can disable the restart after pressing power button for 10 seconds. I'm running B125. One other option that I could think of is to somehow enable wake up on double tap something, I'm not really familiar with it. I'm willing to root the phone. Maybe try expose (?).
The power button, sometime its okay, sometimes its not. Nevertheless lets say 5 to 10 restart everyday. Sometimes it needs to be pressed like normal. Sometimes just light tapping it would register a button press.

Random Boxes and "Press power button and volume to restart phone"

A few days ago, my HTC One M8 came up with a little box on the screen saying "to restart the phone, Press the power button and the volume down button for 10 secs". I had not done anything to the phone so i went to swipe it away and it would not. I could use any apps or panels under the message but the box with the message stayed there.
Then another panel came up with the "shut down, restart and airplane mode" when i did not even press the power button to get to that panel. It would then keep switching between the power saver screen (blank screen) then back to the "airplane mode" box randomly. And the power button becomes hyper sensitive like its a touch button rather than a press button.
Ive tried to factory reset the phone and clear out the cache but to no avail. I thought it might have been a virus...managed to put a virus checker on but found nothing.
Phone is stock and nothing changed on it. Had it for over a year now with no probs
Android version = 6.0
HTC Sense = 7.0
Software = 6.12.401.4
Please help...or is the phone knackered?
Thx in advance
Sounds like your power button is malfunctioning. Not a whole lot you can do, except maybe cleaning around the button, to see if some debris or residue is making it "stick". A more extreme measure, might be to take apart the phone and clean around the button. But such an invasive measure might not be worthwhile (and may do more harm than good), as the problem may be with the electronic components themselves.
